True, but even 970 SLI was pretty good when I first got it. Might be psychological, but it really wasn't until after the 3.5GB ram issue that SLI just started going downhill.
-
Runs pretty well on my 7970m crossfire. Amd should finally release some actual drivers though. Game suffers from some graphical glitches and hick ups.
Still gorgeous though ! -

Ahh, got it to run. I had to reinstall Origin. Graphics looks good, my wireless 360 controller works right out the box. This is my 1st Star Wars game, so I'll use this demo to get use to it. I always wondered why AAA titles really stopped doing demos. Oh, can anyone tell me why my OSD says I'm getting 200fps while playing

SWBF is filled with the same hit detection BS. Running behind someone who is not facing me and grilling them with laser blasts, they just keep on running, turn around and pew pew and I'm dead and they have 70-100% health.

Yeah, lack of ping shown does suck. Then again, this is beta, and this *IS* Star Wars. I mean all it takes is a warm body to be a Storm Trooper and aiming not required, lol.
-
Man I wanted to play last night but I was buggered. I'm still only level 4 and want that jet pack. I must have it.
Hit detection seemed good when I played it the other day. When's this Beta end anyway? -

Air Combat is hilariously broken and easy.
Managed to make the BF4 Spawn worse by doing that 5 sec intro.
Why easy?
It is because during that 5 secs intro lock, you already in the combat zone.
You can die during that intro.(I admit I totalllly took advantage of this)
It doesn't take a genius to figure out to camp the spawn.
Auto-Aim ... seriously? (At least you get a nice warning of someone using it)
Very short effective range (Which makes the TIE fighter the best craft until the A-Wing which they kindly reminds me why I hate them)
The controls will automatically pull up to level across the horizon which make aiming down difficult
There is no mid air collision with friendlies ... ie you can't trick them to crash each other.
Active Radar ... Easier to Aim with ... Deals Higher Damage (~70%) with a slight mobility hit
Their fixed powerup coin locations are in a heavily contested area which make spawn camping so much easier once you get air superiority. (Very likely your opponent will spawn one by one)
Earn cooldown powerup the longer your kill streak goes (Pointless as everyone dies in 3 shots.)
Using the evasive skill to grant temp god so you can ram others is funny. (Reason why I always charge head on now hehe)
.... Still more fun than the Stealth Jet Role in BF4Last edited: Oct 10, 2015 -
Interesting, looks like Battlefront is the first game to support Dolby Atmos. Probably more relevant for console gamers as I doubt many PC gamers who are not home theater buffs have an Atmos preamp/AVR and surround speakers, but gotta give props to DICE for the sound design in their games which is always top-notch.

My 960M plays this at 40-45 FPS on Auto settings. Much better than I thought it would be, lol.

My poor 560m gets 28-30 FPS w/ everything set to Low/Off. Time for an upgrade!
Would a 970m get me 60+ FPS on High or Ultra? -
I get between 60 and 100fps maxed out, vsync on, but it does not seem to properly work with SLI as I have one GPU at 100% utilization and the other at around 46%.
All in all it does not work up my system as much, but my minimum fps seem to be 60 so it's alright. -

Hmm, just learned it's an open beta and downloaded it to try, thought perhaps it might run if I reduce resolution.
Unfortunately, looks like the game won't even start if you have less than 2GB VRAM, is that right? For me it launches and then when I press "Enter" to start, the screen goes pink and it crashes. Maybe I can lower settings in config file to get it to start?
Battlefield Hardline seemed to run OK on the same laptop.
EDIT: this is the error I'm getting https://community.amd.com/thread/189852
EDIT: Tried updating to the 15.9.1 beta driver and it still crashes. It seems you have to try to skip past the first two screens and quickly change the settings to Windowed mode. Is there a way to adjust some user settings file to force it to launch in windowed mode?Last edited: Oct 12, 2015 -

Managed to get it working OK, just had to press Alt+Enter after launch to force Windowed mode.

On my Optimus laptop I can't get the game to run at lower than native resolution otherwise it runs in a window unless I change desktop resolution to lower resolution.

Maybe he's waiting for the Skylake-E version of P570WM.
Well I know I am. Even though Skylake by itself is somewhat of a disappointment, compared to Ivy Bridge it still offers about 20% IPC increase, and does show notable improvement in CPU bound games (mainly RTS and MMOs) as well as GTA V. Since node shrinks are just going to get harder and more expensive, Skylake will probably be like the 14nm of Sandy Bridge. Nowhere near as great as Sandy obviously, but should still have good longevity. -

Surprisingly, this game scales down really well for weaker PCs. Wish more games would include Resolution Scale setting that allows you to go all the way from 1% to 200%.
Waiting to check some reviews of the new laptops with GTX 980 and whether there will be MXM version that might fit in a smaller laptop.Last edited: Oct 12, 2015 -
I can't run it full-screen for some reason. No idea why. It flashes and whatnot like it's trying to go full-screen, but never does.
Borderless windowed mode is the next best thing. -

Just tried the Beta, started and ran great... they really nailed the atmosphere of the Star Wars world imo. Fun game!
-
Game was ok.. I wish they allowed you to try one of the space modes....I really wanted to play the fighter one...
-
Now there is no beta... closed down until release. Fun while it lasted. T
-
I finally got a Darth Vader power up. I was all excited, but lasted only about 20 seconds. Not sure what this dude was shooting me with but I died awfully quickly. Where if I shoot a hero it takes a hundred shots to even dent them.
And what!? Beta already over with? That was quick.TomJGX and moviemarketing like this. -

Looks like DICE is tweaking the balance to make the Rebel side easier.
I thought I just needed to git gud and L2Rebel after getting killed so many times. -
Unfortunately i don't have the links anymore... Also i sold that computer a couple months ago so i can't comment on newer drivers creating the problem again. -
-
Yeah the Walker Assault was bad. Unless everyone was concentrating fire with every available mounted turret there was no way to win. Only time I was on a map when rebel's won was when the team balance was like 16 v 10.
-
The map balance was pretty poor on either side.
The Imperials can basically play TDM while the Rebels does the Imperial Objectives for them.
Yet it takes 4 Rebels with half a brain work together as a group to instantly win the match under 8 minutes from match start.
On the Bright side, those AT-AT have weak spots that allows you deal more damage.
Don't know how much ... just notices the points comes in at a much faster pace.
The missile on the X-Wing deal 30 points on leg (5%?)
A-Wings deals more damage with their laser ... I get 120 points for each full burst.
Snowspeeders instant kill them though it takes 2-3 Y-Wings per AT-AT provided that those Y-Wings don't get shot down.
(It is possible end that phase earlier by killing the Y-Wings before they drop their payload)Last edited: Oct 20, 2015TomJGX likes this. -
Meh, the flight is as borked as every other DICE game. Arcade and twitchy. I found little fun in flying any of the aircraft. Only aircraft I like in BF3/4 were the choppers. Airplanes were just rapid transport to another location.

Apparently they moved ambient occlusion to the compute pipeline. Looks like AMD is ready to play dirty with nVidrosoft. -
Well considering that it runs 60 FPS on the PS4 with almost no deviation below from the review I saw that measured it, it will definitely be AMD optimized.
-
Yeah. I honestly don't care even that they're doing this. This will only mean things will end up better for us.
-
I think AMD is about to make their move. They've positioned themselves exactly where they need to be to take on nVidia since game devs tend to code for the consoles first these days... That means that code optimization will cross over to the PC releases as well. AMD is going to stomp nVidia if they start pushing console devs to put GCN's significant advantage in parallelism to work.
TomJGX likes this. -
well that can hardly be done with DX11. But there will be some advantages. I also agree, it's time for AMD to start playing their strengths more. Code optimization on PC is absolutely terrible, and most games are showing this. BO3, Fallout 4, Dying Light, GTA V... they all use way way way too much out of PCs than should ever be necessary. And when they're delayed before launch and still end up with terrible terrible bugs and optimization issues, it just means the delay was pointless.
-
I think you're giving AMD too much credit. They aren't in a position where they carefully crafted a long-game strategy, and are now ready to reap the benefits.
AMD has been an absolute mess the past few years. Their CPUs can't compete with Intel on the high-end. Their GPUs trade blows with nVidia, and neither company is a clear dominant winner with better products. They've gone through a lot of leadership changes in the past few years. They recently went through a re-org that split their CPU and GPU business. They have been bleeding money for the past several years, and operating at a loss. They aren't in a position where they can take short-term losses to play out the long-game. If anything, they are barely holding on. -
I think this game is quite hilarious... I cant take it seriously after last night when taking a few shots of tequila and coming upon this in mid-game.TomJGX likes this. -
So many hackers... wtf. I'm hiding behind a 20 ft wide tree and get killed half way across the map. So many times one hit kills with same gun I'm using but takes 20 hits to do anything.
