Is this a dumb downed version of Skyrim? Meaning do you think this game would have be much better hand it not been made for console? Are you having any problems with the control for the PC and do you think the graphics could be better?
Do you think there were any other elements that could have made the game much better had it not been on console?
Or do you feel like your playing a PC game from scratch?
-
It's definitely not a PC game from the ground up, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Everything I'm hearing about it (I've only played about 10 minutes since I had to get up early for work) says it's AMAZING.

If Skyrim was a PC only game, I don't know, maybe they could have made this some sort of photorealistic Crysis-type game world or added Ubersampling from TW2, etc., but probably my PC wouldn't be able to run it. But certainly if it were PC exclusive they wouldn't have had the $100 million budget to develop the Creation Engine and this massive, massive game with all this content.
Witcher 2 runs like a slideshow for me, even with all the settings dialed down, and the controls felt very unresponsive. As a result, I got bored and stopped playing after about 10 or 15 hours, even though I had pre-ordered it far in advance. I enjoyed the first Witcher game a lot more. Hopefully I'll pick it up again at some point in the future and perhaps try switching to 1600x900 resolution.
Skyrim on the other hand, is probably the most fun game I've ever played. I'm playing at 1920x1080 and getting excellent frame rates with everything maxed.
It's certainly not dumbed down. It could be considered one of the most complex game development endeavors ever attempted. The world is so intricate and detailed with many thousands of stats the game is tracking at any given time and they managed to take all of this and breathe life into it with hundreds of NPCs and dozens of factions that feel much more lifelike and organic than previous TES games. And all of this is spread out over 550 different handcrafted locations, etc. Then they came up with some amazing gameplay concepts that are really fun to execute.
I have not had any problems with my mouse, I know a few people reported that but you have to keep in mind that this is a game that had 2 million pre-orders, probably sold at least 4 or 5 million copies this week. The people experiencing tech issues are in the extreme minority.
As far as the UI goes, it is excellent IMO, much more convenient and easier to use than the UI for any previous RPGs I have played such as Witcher 2, DA2, Oblivion, Morrowind, ME2, ME1. -
When you say you haven't experienced any mouse problems, do you mean that you aren't experiencing a difference between the sensitivity for x and sensitivity for y? If so, that's interesting. It's nothing I can't fix through Setpoint, but it was kind of annoying.
-
Troll? Did you check the screenshot? I can post DOZENS more. Also there's a wierd shadow glitch where they appear blocky and refresh every 10-15 seconds.
Textures are pure bs, I'm actually considering not playing it to wait for some mods to fix it. -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
I use a wireless logitech trackball mouse and I have adjusted the sensitivity in the past for other games. For example, RAGE, I had to tweak the settings with the mouse driver.
However, for Skyrim, I have not adjusted any mouse settings at all, neither in-game nor using the mouse driver application, and it works OK for me. -
That's weird. My X tracking is noticeably faster than my Y tracking.
-
It worked! regarding the sound options!! Many Thanks narsnail for this!
-
People are complaining about it, especially the shadows. Right now people are working on tweaks and such to improve it. Mods will also come pretty soon I suppose.
Here are something you can try out, including shadows:
Tweaks to make Skyrim that much better : skyrim
Skyrim PC ini and console tweaks - Bethesda Softworks Forums
-
Even at max mouse speed set in game, the controls still seem sluggish. But I'll play a bit more. Maybe just takes some getting used to.
And I noticed strange things with shadows too. I see some of them like blinking or something. Quite annoying. Depends on what you're doing and where you're at though. Not on everything. -
Game runs great Maxed Settings on my desktop with GTX 580 and Phenom II x6 1055T 2.8Ghz. Although the graphics aren't that impressive, the fight with the dragon made up for it.
-
Saw this in another forum.
"For the Y axis scaling issue, in your SkyrimPrefs.ini try adding this under the Controls section:
fMouseHeadingYScale=0.0200
fMouseHeadingXScale=0.0200
If the scaling truly varies with FPS that won't totally fix it, but it seems to help."
Edit: Putting "fdefaultfov=90" in skyrim.ini doesn't work at all. Go to the console in-game and type "fov 90" works though. -
Thanks for that. I was confused because I looked in the .ini and only saw one value for the mouse scaling.
-
Thanks! I was going to see if there was a way to increase FOV. I get sick if FOV is too narrow.
-
No worries, glad to hear you guys find the tips useful.

-
Where's Battlefield 3 in that list... oh wait, that's right.
-
Skyrim have that beat too I suppose. Especially after the spyware "accident"

Here's an update:
-
On day 1, BF3 had 5 million PC users as EA said they shipped 10 million and only 5 million are accounted for, for 360 and PS3. 1.5 million retail for PC. That leaves about 3.5 million on Origin. That smashes Skyrim.
And everyone knew MW3 sales on PC wouldn't be that impressive as almost all their sales have been on consoles for their previous games as well. The MW3 pre-sale numbers weren't as high as previous games. -
Just about 10 minutes or so into the game and I bailed. Graphics are lame and very consolish even when maxed out. Inventory is major suck, one of the worst I have ever encountered in any game and there have been many many games on this old mans pc. Controls are crap for a pc player. Now that I have that out of my system I guess I'll go back and try and enjoy it for what it is and hope the gameplay holds up despite the console BS.
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Perhaps, but it's still quite impressive for a single player role playing game.
I wonder why it seems not quite so many are using Steam for MW3. Is it overwhelmingly more popular for consoles?
As for the Skryim first week sales, my guess would be somewhere around 4 - 5 million copies, considering the pre-orders were over 2 million as of last week. -
This was something I completely expected from Skyrim. Not only am I not surprised, this is something I knew.
But I also expect Skyrim to be a great game. Just suck it up and play. I think you'll have fun, you paid for it, might as well get something back for it. -
"Current" is the same as "Peak" there too. Wonder where it will stop
And the graphic of Skyrim is much better than Oblivion so I am satisfied. It is a shame it is a console port but it is what it is. I hear people saying the PC version is much better than console version too. -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
I wonder how many of those 225k people were supposed to be at work today
Is Skyrim taking a toll on corporate productivity? -
That is truly a phenomenal number of concurrent players for a single player rpg. BF3 only has about 100k on any given day.
Plus I'm ok if graphics aren't top end. I really want awesome gameplay over graphics. I'm tired of pretty games, I want something with substance. -
guys u must try this mod!!!it makes graphics even better!!!
EGC - Enhanced Graphics Center at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community -
This is what makes TES community #1 in my book. They are always ready to polish the work Bethesda did and make the graphics much better. Even add gameplay
-
How do I change FOV permanently? the console "fov XX" setting is only for each play-session and resets itself. The ini file change "fdefaultfov=XX" doesn't work for me.
-
So far it seems you can only do it in-game atm. I'm sure there will be a way soon.
-
Strange, most of us think this game is fun as hell (that's an understatement) and quite beautiful. It may not have the most souped up graphics engine but the art style is glorious.
That's a shame, guess we'll wait. -
Is the graphic really that bad?
Is it better than DA:O, but worst than the Wither 2?
Will Modding make the graphic the way it meant to be play on PC?
I just bought the game and debating if I should open it or not.
Thanks -
Definitely worth opening. I easily have over 200hrs into Oblivion and so far Skyrim seems to be even better. I saved a TON of cash when I was at Ft Gordon and bought Oblivion. Went from spending about $40 a night at the bar with the guys to sitting in my room with a six pack and Oblivion for almost 6 months straight. Graphics might not be the best there is, but they are definitely good. You will not be disappointed, unless of course you want to have a life outside of travelling the countryside and slaying dragons.
Oh about the Modding...most definitely. There are not many games out there that can compare with TES in terms of the size of the Modding community. Besides graphics improvements, in time there will be so many gameplay and story mods that it will be like playing a completely different game if you use them all.
One more thought, can't seem to keep them together tonight. There are 24,245 mods for Oblivion on tesnexus. There is sure to be even more mods for Skyrim. Skyrimnexus already has a small collection of mods starting and Skyrim was just released today! -
Modding save Skyrim! Thanks to the heaven upon!
So I bough the game, and now it download on Steam? , is it a patch or did I not install it from the Disc? Cause it said install it from the disc, and I got to 96% so that mean the patch is that huge? We already have a patch the day the game is out? So sick of waiting, 2 more % to go sigh. -
Yea there was a huge day 1 patch
-
Actually you don't need to type "fov XX" each time, just save the game right after you typed "fov XX" and then restart game. Tested it myself and others say it works too.
NeoGAF - View Single Post - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC Performance discussion -
I loaded Skyrim on my netbook (AMD E-350 with Radeon HD 6310 IGP) and I wasn't expecting miracles, but it runs like crap. Lowest resolution allowed is 1280x720. If they allowed 1024x600 it might run a bit better. As it stands with all lowest settings I get 8-15 fps, average about 12. Also would be nice if you could force DirectX 9 might help it a bit too.
Hmmm, was able to get it to run at 800x450 (yeah I know, low res), but it runs pretty darn good now about 15-25fps. Not great but you don't need super high fps in this game anyhow. Just something to screw around with on the go. Too bad there's not Steam cloud saving with this game.
Plus see this page to eliminate mouse lag:
http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/11/11/t...e-graphics-disable-vsync-change-fov-and-more/
And dammit. No steam cloud. I hope they add it. -
ratchetnclank Notebook Deity
Just sharpens the image :\ -
I was expecting DX 11 graphics, this graphics is worst than Dragon Age: Origin and Fallout: NV on the PC.
-
...seriously? What settings are you playing at? I run both FO:NV and Skyrim at maximum settings and Skyrim completely blows NV out of the water, no contest.
Anyway, I'll be streaming Skyrim in a little bit on my channel, Mastershroom for anyone interested.
-
Yeah dude what are you talking about?! Skyrim's graphics look better than both of those combined. Turn up the settings.
-
Everything is max out, and the only thing good about the graphics is the character model. There are no high res texture, FOV is close, and everything is so blocky and grainy. Also the snow look like a game from window 95 with its graphic makes it look cell shaded as well.
-
Wow! The adrenaline rush from fighting a dragon that kept burning me up or literaly chewing me up and spitting me out was more than I have ever gotten from any FPS. These damn things won't hesitate to grab you in their jaws and shake you around like a ragdog before throwing your lifeless body to the ground. I love it!
These are low settings and 1280x800 and still looks just as good as most Xbox360 games. -
You must be a perfectionist. Check any of the hundreds of reviews for this game. You are the first one I've heard bash the graphics of this game so bad.
-
ratchetnclank Notebook Deity
I'd say on low it looks like a ps2 game tbh.
But on high the graphics are great. -
I decided to play more around with the graphic option and it turn out the graphic look bad because of FFXA? What exactly is FFXA that make the graphic so bad?
The graphic is better now, and I'm not sure it look as good as the screenshot shown on steam but even though some wall and rock are blocky and grainy it seem smoother.
Lastly this game has crash on me twice in 2 hours of play. No big deal, just kind of annoying. -
Actually the game's graphics are not really that great as some of the other modern titles.
From Tom's Hardware:
"You may be surprised to learn that the fifth Elder Scrolls installment doesnt really push graphics much further than Oblivion, despite the fact that it centers on a new engine. The Creation Engine, as it's called, does facilitate improved detail, better lighting, and more realistic character animation. But, at the end of the day, Skyrim is clearly cut from the same cloth as its predecessor. Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 are in different leagues when it comes to visual fidelity."
At any rate, if you like Oblivion, then Skyrim should be your cup of tea, otherwise you won't like it! I wanna play it but I don't want to spend 60 bucks on it yet. -
When you do get the game, make sure to not enable FXAA, I don't know what it is but it make the graphic look really bad. Now the graphic look good enough and very similar to the screenshot. Also don't enable object fade as well.
Lastly, there are going to be mod that enhance the graphic and U.I interface and menu so I think you should wait until those things are all sorted out and fix.
Lastly, after spending $50 on Battlefield 3, buying Skyrim was an easy $50 dollars purchase. -
Just finished the fastest 6 hours of my life... all I can say is... WOW!
Skyrim is the best game to come to the PC in a long time for me.
I am playing on my 3.5-yr-old laptop on medium (720p) and things look very nice. I realize there is better out there on the graphics side... but NOTHING better story-wise, freedom-wise, or immersion-wise. (even the score is amazing, I actually WANT to hear the actors and in-game music and effects for this game!)
This is computer RPG at its finest. If it doesn't win Game-of-the-Year, it will be a crying shame.
The only downside is that I want better hardware very badly now. -
Man dragonshouts are so fun.
A guard actually ran up to me to tell me to shut up after I used FUS RO in town a couple of times.
