They should buff dragon HP up by 10x, and make it do 3x more damage to player (10x more damage to non-player units/NPCs). That would be more realistic.
-
Okay, I'm only a few hours into this. I'm using a bow and arrow and my companion Fandrael (archer elf guy) is WAY better than me. Any way I can get the points I spent on bows back? Should I start over?
-
Indeed, I demand the utmost realism when slaying dragons.
-
You'll outgrow your follower sooner or later.
HOWEVER, I would advise against playing an RPG where the player does the same style of play that his/her follower does. RPGs require complementation; e.g. warrior-mage, warrior-archer, battlemage-warrior, assassin-archer, etc, to be fun and at the same time effective. -
Bows are awesome, especially with sneaking. Did you know you can use Faendal to train your archery skill and use the "trade items" companion option to just take your gold back?
Though I skip a companion altogether because they're terrible for a stealthy character. -
^^ I am playing stealth archer myself cuz melee combat is just super frustrating, swing time is too high to my liking. Also i was so scared by the ghouls that i just spent all the time stealthed xD
Now its like "you did 3x damage, you landed critical strike, enemy is staggered" wohoo. Sometimes i am sneaking to an enemy and dont realize its an enemy because its in my face and it still doesnt see me. Dragon goes down with 15-20 arrows flat... I do think i might miss some fun in magic department, thats like 5 perk trees i didnt even look at.
Not sure how do you use daggers though, i mean i started to get into melee range with stealth at around level 30 with 80 sneaking. Before that it just didnt work out all that well.
i invested all my gold into smithing and chanting constantly. It still isnt hard enough. But hey, you can avoid death completely with stealth. Was kinda hard to take down dragons though till i leveled archery. -

Another stealth archer here. Pretty much cannot die except against dragons or foes which take more than one hit.
It's great though. -
is it only me or is the voume of the soundtrack very low?
-
excellent game, i have unfortunately fallen foul of the jack of all trades routine and spent perks and skill points all over the place
oh well, perfect time to test the Bethedesa promised 're-train' to new discipline routine now they removed classes
liking the stealth archer idea, but maybe sling some magic in too..........dammit there i go again
-
I have perks in Destruction, Conjuration, One Handed, Heavy Armor, and Smithing. Mainly in the first 3, though. There's just so many good things to choose from.
-
I heard there is a cap to number of perks you can have and you cant re-train it. is it true?
I am kinda disappointed that you cant cast defensive spells with bow.
Not that i need to cast much but if i didnt have to switch the weapon to cast something i would cast more and it would make game more dynamic and more fun imo. Like casting steal soul is a total pain in the butt (i know u can enchant ur weapon to steal but still..) -

The sound in general seems kind of low...at least for me -

If you guys want a harder dragon kill increase the difficulty. On hard they are pretty brutal
-
Try this.
Many people have sound that is far too low but the above fixed it. -

Thanks a ton, I'll try that when i get home. -
I think the attention to detail is pretty cool. The fact that they made it possible to play tag with the little kids in Solitude is funny.
-
^ yup, i am pretty amazed with dungeons as well, especially after playing DA2 xD
-
I also notice you can catch fish in the sea, sell potatoes for cash, catch butterflies. I was surprised to discover that mercenaries who assist you in battle after recruiting or winning over, will turn on you if you do something they disagree with. For example, I attacked a stable owner and stole his horse but my follower turned on me after this.

So @ people who've beaten
Thieves guild quest, are you disappointed in the quest reward compared to Oblivion. I sure am, being a Gray Fox is probably the highlight of Oblivion for me -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I don't think that is true. Only the dragons related to the quests are scripted and scaled. The other dragons are not in any way shape or form.
I do agree that stealth bow seems to be the way to go for Skyrim but I personally never liked playing as a stealth archer though in any RPG. In regards to companions, they do have their quirks but I bring my just for her to carry my gear and bring extra fire support. Otherwise I am starting to able to tank my way though myself a bit better. I am sure there will be mods out that that can bring back the "Essential NPC" status like in Oblivion. That way your selected companion might not lose his or her health that dramatically.
I liked the layout and enemy selection in dungeons but I missed the solemn, clean decor of the Ayleid ruins though... -
I've never 'stealthed' my way to any Bethesda game, but I just realized how fun it is.

Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Considering your a Dovankiin, I can't see myself a cowardly sneaking sniper the whole time. -
Bahhumbug! The trailers for the game make the dovahkiin a very loud character that should wear heavy armor with a sword and shield at hands. That does seem fitting for the dovahkiin. When it comes towards the dovahkiin-related quests, I'll probably be skilled in heavy armor and such.
-
Have you not discovered any shouts yet? The shouts are AWESOME.
FUS ROH DAAAH!
I have one that allows me to yell fire. -
Discovered a couple.

And
IT'S WAY BETTER THAN FIRST PERSON VIEW.
I just don't think any melee game should be played in first person view. Just wrong. -
Can we have a source article or link or something with information about the DLL? I wouldn't recommending downloading some random executable code without more information.

It's a fix found for CFX users. But personally found it gave improvements for single card as well.

What are the negatives of Heavy Armor other then movement?
-
I started out planning on being a "good guy", but after the Riften guards tried to force me to pay a toll to get into the city I decided to be a vigilante and take them out. I think the thieves guild is next. Maybe I'll join the dark brotherhood when I'm done so I can get paid for future killing.
-
hEAVY armor perks are horrible compared to light armor perks.
The only good thing about heavy armor is a bit more damage reduction. -
Aside from the perks do you lose magicka abilities?

Anyone else have a bounty in Falkreath even though they've never visited it? I've got a 1000 bounty there for no reason...

OK.............one question here. Why in the hell does the left mouse button control my characters right hand and the right mouse button control my characters left hand and can you change it ?
I realize this game is nothing more than a straight forward console port, but in most other "PC" games, I would have the option, on the options screen to change this, but then again most other "PC" games would have realized that it would make sense, and done it right the first time, "Left mouse button controls left hand, right mouse button controls right hand!"
And just so you don't think I'm the only one who thinks that Bethesda is lazy:
Gamasutra: Eric Schwarz's Blog - Skyrim, or How Not to Make a PC Game
"User Interface? What's That?
After Fallout 3's interface left me with a bad taste in my mouth, I wasn't expecting Skyrim's interface to astound - indeed, preview footage lead me to believe that it was a classic case of Bethesda once again trading in functionality for looks. Fair enough, that's nothing new. I can struggle through the UI, even if it's a bit wonky, until someone comes out with a replacement. Unfortunately, Skyrim's PC user interface is quite possibly the clunkiest and most difficult I have ever seen in a game made after the DOS era. I have played games from 1985 that were infinitely more usable than Skyrim; that a modern game makes so many elementary mistakes suggests a certain kind of malevolence, not simple laziness." -
I guess it's because most people are right-handed, and the left-click is more used and accessible (your index finger is more flexible) than the right-clock. So left click is matched up with in-game right swing/cast.
-
Real men use two handed weapons. Right or left click either one and your enemy dies.
Seriously though, the ability to reverse the mouse clicks would be nice. Especially if dual wielding. Whether weapons or spells. Easier to keep it straight IMO if left click is left hand and right click is right hand. -
Though I'm somewhat ambidextrous, eat and write with my left hand and throw with my right, I expressly use my right for the mouse and would feel awkward using my left hand and find your defending of Bethesda's implementation of mouse input, bias !
Left is left and right is right !
Why do people keep making excuses for Bethesda's poor pc optimization of this $59.99 game ? -
Preaching to the choir. But I digress.
-
Well, as sad as it sounds, ive only ever played elder scrolls games on xbox. So the first thing I did after playing through the intro was go out and buy a wired xbox controller. Something about mouse and keyboard didnt jam with the game for me, and I have to say it feels about 1000xs better with the controller in my hand.
I guess im just a sad console gamer, but id highly recommend a controller to anyone who is finding the UI rather... xboxy... -
I'm on the fence with skyrim. The reviews are great, but is it worth it to get? Is it really that bad with keyboard and mouse (I played oblivion with keyboard and mouse just fine)? Any deals I should now about?
-
Where do you find a smelter in the beginning, they don't seem to be in blacksmith areas? Its kind of confusing.
-
Whiterun, right after you enter the main gate, look to the right.
-
I have around 15 hours of gameplay in it and can safely say it feels a lot better with a keyboard and mouse than oblivion. There are huge improvements to the UI and controls.
And now the lockpicking system isn't so annoying as oblivion
-
lockpicking is awesome. I could pick master locks with 20 skill, just be gentle ))
For those who play with controllers — try sniping something with a bow. I can bet mouse give 10x precision.
Those were bad guards. You could just tell them to gtf0 and they would let you in anyway.
After getting enough sneaking you can just kill anything anywhere but killing everything makes you feel sad and lonely.
Btw anyone got soul trap enchant bugged? It seems to give me filled soul gems even when i dont have empty ones... My whole inventory is filled with like 30 filled petty and lesser soul gems...
Another thing that kinda disappointed me — if you go for dragon smithing you cant go further to take daedra... you need to go all the way AROUND... meh. So if you dont need light armor by any means DONT go dragon armor. But i guess everyone need light armor because its just so much better then heavy. On the other hand i wish i took Daedra root first anyway because there is a good armor from thieves brotherhood from what i heard.
On the other hand — going dragon armor lets you drain money from smiths selling them armor, else you would only be able to drain it from traders selling scales which isnt convenient since general trade stors are usually out of gold due to buying something else from me. -
I really haven't thought about the left right thing since the first 10 minutes of playing.
-
No, it's not like Oblivion where your casting is less effective in armor. But the perks are pretty bad, aside from the first one.
My complaint is that some of the destruction spells are terrible.
Novice - Sparks - 10 damage per second, almost no magicka to cast
Apprentice - Lightning Bolt - 31 damage each cast, fairly low magicka
Adept - Chain Lightning - 50 damage that jumps, A TON OF MAGICKA to cast.
Not to mention, 50 damage is still not all that much. Some dudes I can one shot with a lightning bolt, then other dudes in the same dungeon have so much health that chain lightning barely does anything to them. And the jumping is pretty useless most of the time. -
Do you have any mid game numbers for magic?
For example on level 30 with daedric bow and some % bow damage chants i had somewhat 140 damage x3 xCritical + damage chant + poison = like 700 per shot and thats modest considering i dont have 80 archery yet. I imagine it would cit for twice as much with all the enchants and perks. -
I don't think magic can crit. I don't remember ever seeing a crit.
I guess I need to load up my gear with enchants. Maybe start using a real sword that I can enchant instead of Bound Sword.
