I still can't believe Bethesda tied your vertical mouse movement to the framerate. It's the dumbest thing I've ever read about for mouse controls in any game. That means your vertical mouse movement will differ whether you are in a dungeon with 60+ FPS or if you are in town with 25 FPS, or if you are outdoors with 45-50 FPS. Whoever made this decision at Bethesda should be fired.
It's really aggravating. My mouse movement on horozontal is 3x faster than it is for vertical. But Bethesda said OK, you can now press the Esc key...
-
Um, lol what? You serious? I'm going to have to go mess with that now.
-
Cheers for that... eventually went with light (I had elvish armor) that I enchanted. My smithing is really high (iron daggers all day lol) and I worked on my enchanting a lot as well... might eventually switch to glass, it looks sooo cool
The problem is I think the enemies are being scaled to my smithing/enchanting skill, which is far more than my pathetic 40-ish destruction/conj magic, making the game a lot harder.
Oh well. -
Skyrim patch tomorrow.
Skyrim version 1.2 coming Wednesday, Bethesda releases patch notes | PC Gamer
Cant wait but i still think they should have added more support for threading and up the memory limit. -
And fixing the shadows, fixing the vertical mouse sensitivity, fixing CFX/SLI support for both AMD/Nvidia users, fixing performance in the cities etc etc.
But this is typical Bethesda games. They make games with good enough gameplay and story that it somewhat balances out how buggy their games are. Reviewers say if it wasn't for that, Bethesda games would get ratings of F for how buggy they are.
For mouse fix only thing is running the game in window mode, as window mode again changes how the mouse works with Skyrim. There is a simple borderless window mod you can use which works with the 4GB LAA launcher. Then you disable vertical sync and the sync the vertical and horazontal mouse moevement in the INF. Again this is only a workaround.
And the solutions people provide for shadow are also just workarounds because after 2 seconds you can see the shadow stutter shift or the jaggies only disappear on some things but are still there. The INF changes don't fix, just workarounds. But I think Bethesda will view them as fixes since they are just too consumed with fixing their 360/ps3 ports.
So now I have screen tearing and my mouse still isn't fixed. I think this will be the FIRST game in my life, where I'll be forced to buy a controller for a PC game! This is just so depressing. -
OMG, I was wondering why my vertical sensitivity was so out of whack in Riften. For some reason, Riften drops my FPS more than any other town.
I totally agree that if this game wasn't so huge and addictive and fun, I would give it a 2 out of 10 for being incomplete. Sometimes I wish Bethesda would put a little more effort into bugstomping. -
Let's hope the vertical movement bug is squashed with the patch.
-
I'm going to miss this one.
-
According to ENB dev: "28 november 2011
LARGE ADDRESS AWARE (LAA) patches for TES Skyrim were tested by users and, unfortunately, game may only to work with less than 3 Gb of memory. This is bad news for modders and players who wish to install huge mods in future, they will not work stable. I'm beginning to develop walkaround to this problem." -
Agreed with you all on the mouse movement issue. I had heard about it before playing, and immediately was taken aback by how ridiculous it was. Why would they make the decision to tie mouse sensitivity into fps? And why unsync the vertical and horizontal movement without making an option to change it available? Just a teeeeerrrriibbblleee decision from a design perspective.
Also, has anyone been able to find some fixes/workarounds for the random crashes that occur? About 1/10 times when alt+tabbing it will just crash, and will occassionally crash at other random times. Doesn't seem to be a pattern that I can discern.
Has anyone else noticed that the more you play the game, the buggier it gets? My performance when I first started was absolutely perfect, even on maxed out settings. Now I routinely get slowdown, especially with fog/mist and some shadows. Kinda bugging me
-
That's a characteristic of all Bethesda games. I think Bethesda just doesn't care thinking mod community will clean up their mess. If they did, they wouldn't keep releasing games so buggy and then leaving them bugged for someone else to clean up after them. FO3 was terrible in terms of performance and bugginess, then they repeated that with FO:NV. And before Skyrim, Oblivion has a great reputation for being a very buggy game as well.
-
Just FYI, Fallout NV wasn't developed by Bethesda; it was developed by Obsidian, and then published by Bethesda.
At this point, I've come to expect Bethesda games to come riddled with bugs. I still love them, though. Plus, Skyrim really is possibly the least buggy Bethesda game to ever be released, which I guess is a step in the right direction... -
Seconded here. I know their reputation, and I have had to work through the bugs in their previous games. Honestly, despite my complaints, the bugs haven't affected me that much. The CTD is annoying as hell, but thankfully the save system works pretty well and it loads back up pretty quickly. I think most of us would be fine with Bethesda if they made more of an effort to acknowledge and work on the bugs. This 'patch' seems like a slap in the face to us PC users..
-
This. After having Morrowind completely destroy one of my savegames with an impassable quest, and having Oblivion just...be Oblivion, I'll still happily give Bethesda my 60 bucks every time they slap an Elder Scrolls label on something.

Looks like the 1.2 patch won't be addressing any of the broken quests. Too bad. Been holding out on the Companions at the Purity of Revenge quest due to the fact that the next mission is buggy as hell. I know that it can be fixed with the console which allows the plot to continue but even after doing that most of the Companion members stay bugged out, not to mention dead Silver Hand lying everywhere. I've ran into some glitches with various other miscellaneous quests as well.
-
Hm I did the full companions questline through and didn't notice anything unusual...curious.
The only quest-related bug (a pretty nasty one too) is the main questline where Esbern had no voice lol. -
Que? I finished the Companions quest line, no bugs...
-
Getawayfrommelucas Notebook Evangelist
Yeah I'm with the rest - what was supposed to bug out?
-
Other than a few minor things, I haven't seen any big bugs yet... There are plenty of minor bugs... but nothing show stopping for me yet.

Good you all haven't experienced the Companions glitch, but it's there. Just Google and you'll find some forum posts about it. It seems to have something to do with the Helm of Winterhold quest, which is a miscellaneous mission the Jarl of Winterhold sends you on. Maybe none of you have done the quest, or maybe you did it after completing the Companions stuff. Basically what happens is when you come back to the Companions base after they have just neutralized the Silverhand attack, everyone is stuck in limbo and won't initiate dialog, which means you can't proceed to the funeral part for their leader and the final quest. A console command can fix it but even after doing the final quest the characters do weird stuff, especially Aela.
There is another Jarl bounty quest to kill a Giant that remains stuck in my Journal, even after completion. I've ran into a couple other quest glitches as well. Nothing gamebreaking, but I feel kind of sorry (just a lil bit) for 360 and PS3 owners who don't have a console to bail them out. -
Two amusing things happened.
I returned something that was lost. The person is very happy and says will put it back where it was before, before it was stolen. Then I see the object on the counter, so I steal it. Guard runs in, I tell him I'm the thain, and he leaves me be. I get the reward for returning it and get to steal it back
Second amusing thing, I'm sent to free prisoners. I free them and then we go off to kill everyone in the garrison. Except I'm a chain lightning mage atm,, everytime I kill an enemy, one of the prisoners die. At the end, I report to the Captain who says, it's a shame none of the prisoners made it, they will be remembered. Yeah... I killed them all.

LOL that's terrible!
Sadly I have also killed quite a few innocents and even some followers when using the Storm Call shout. -
Can anyone tell me how well this game would run on a GT 550m and i7 2670qm? I just bought a laptop with those specs, waiting for it to arrive.
-
Should run it ok. Not at top settings with that GT 550m.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Possible at 720p but not Ultra all the way for sure though. -
High @ 720p with AA turn down to 2-4x
-
daedric shrine quests are fantastic, most of them are twisted. The namira one is awesome. Justs just say that youll get a mouthful of goodness from that quest.
-
I love dinner parties.
-
PS3 on monday, Patch 1.2 for 360 midnight last night and PC later.
Maybe because console sales dwarfed PC sales.
And based on the patch 1.2 notes, anyone else noticed the PC is riddled with far more bugs than PS3 or 360? -
Perhaps they might still add things to the PC patch.
-
Can't play Skyrim right now, or update it, but already some odd things about patch 1.2 in the news.
News: Skyrim 1.2 patch breaks Resistances, makes dragons fly backwards - ComputerAndVideoGames.com
Damage resistance no effect, dragons flying backwards and more frequent crashes. Awesome, even their patches are buggy
You might be better off leaving Steam to NOT UPDATE Skyrim! Bethesda does seem to relegate PC as 2nd class here, more bugs in PC to begin with and their patch just makes it even more buggy? -
Hasn't been released on PC yet. Maybe Beth will fix it for the PC patch?
-
Even a flame atronach can be be 1 hit by a flame shout, a flame atronach should be immune to fire damage. Same for frost atronach with frost spells. If are a dark elf, prepare to die by fire in huge damages.
-
RE: Atronachs, they really need to improve the AI and pathing on the summoned ones. Lots of times, I'll conjure one up and go into a room and kill everything and turn around to see that my atronach is still in the first room. It would also be nice to be able to dismiss your own conjured creatures, rather than having them follow you into towns and hear "that looks like a dangerous spell, keep your distance!" three thousand times.
-
Noooo.
I dont want to go back to BF3. ;( -

I haven't tested it, but, Steam said it updated Skyrim. I have my fingers crossed that it fixed the fps spike issues! I'll test it soon.
-
Nooo! This stupid "update" as Bethesda calls it busted Skyrim. I can't start the game now. If I run the exe it gets to the screen where the Skyrim logo is on the left and continue, new, options, etc. is on the right......except there isn't any writing on the right. Just the symbol with no way around it.
-
DON'T UPDATE!
It seems they didn't fix anything important and just introduce more bugs that are even more annoying now.
Wait for patch 1.3 is what I'm reading right now. -
I tried out the patch (savegame backup ofc) and it seems i now have performance issues in Whiterun with my HD 6970m.
Damn PC users used as test subjects before they release the patch for consoles. D;
Not that we are the only one, PS3 users also gets the same treatment. -
grrrrr.
This update isn't compatible with Val's crafting mod. As soon as I disable that mod the "continue" and other buttons appear on the loading screen.
Hopefully 1.3 isn't like this or Val rewrites the mod. I really liked that one. -
This game started feeling more like a chore to me after about the first 10 hours. I only did about 2 hours worth of the main quest and then did a bunch of side quests, but I eventually felt like an errand boy so I've gone back to plugging away at the main quest for an hour or 2 every couple of days.
-
Ah Bethesda, you guys never fail to release buggy pos games. Sucks for the people that paid full price.
-
A really constructive post their, yes it sucks for those of us that have already committed 50 hours of time and are quite content to continue, personally for 50 hours of gameplay its £30 well spent.
-
Did you do any of the big quest chains? Those are pretty fun.
-
I'm not sure how to do the spoiler thing, so I'll try not to be too specific, but I did the Companions Guild's storyline. After the main quest chain was over I was kind of underwhelmed...I figured given my position I would have a lot more options, but all you really get is the ability to have a bunch of different companions (who normally just get in the way anyways).
Then I started doing the thieves guild quests and did 4-5 of them, and that's when the game started feeling like a chore, and I went up the 7000 steps and continued the main quest line. -
Do the Dark Brotherhood line. It's pretty good.
-
This is getting a bit ridiculous with the bug count. I don't really see how a reasonably well coded project even of this magnitude can have so many bugs post-release. I sure would like to know how they can mess up magic resistances...is the game code for determining damage that broken? It is unacceptable at $60 a pop to have so many problems...
With close to 80 hours of gameplay (trying different characters, etc) I have been fortunate to not run into many bugs; that being said the ones I have run into are annoying and have put me in the habit of saving every 5 minutes as well as before I even try placing a weapon in a storage container. Today I started seeing purple tents and a purple dragon
.
This just might be the last game from Bethesda that finds its way onto my computer. -
I'm not sure they would allow me to seeing as they've sent assassins after me, and made it very apparent they want me dead.
-
The Dark Brotherhood is a group of paid assassins that just take on contracts. THEY don't want you dead, someone else does.
-
The same way as quotes, but put Spoiler at the beginning and end instead of Quote.
[ Spoiler ] blah blah blah [ / Spoiler ]
Like that, but without the spaces in-between everything.
