I am at level 40 without following the main story, just side quests. I think I will get 100 in smithing and enchanting in the next 6/7 levels, that will be at the 46/47 level.
Do u think is still early? I am at 100 destruction with expert level, I like to blow up people with fireballs..![]()
-
Yep, if you enchant them, you level up both skills at once, and make some gold on the way. You will fall short of soul gems really soon, but just learn Soul Trap and go out on a bunny-slaugthering rampage hahaha!
I agree. I decided to max out my smithing and enchanting when I was already at level 43 or 44... I made my way to that on mage / arch-mage robes... I just felt it was time to get some serious suit... -
Its up to you, we can't tell you how to play a game
But if you like blowing people up, having 100% (25% x 4) Fortify Destruction on your apparel, means free destruction spells
-
What what what??? I didn't know about the "bunny" trick to get soul gems, how is it works?
I already have the soul trap, but I've never used it...
Please, explain it to an RPG noob...
-
I believe its more fun to learn things on your own, but if I just say that, you will call me something awful and just google it, so here goes:
Soul Gems are soul holders. They can be either filled with a soul or empty. If you cast Soul Trap on any living thing, it means that when they die, you trap their soul in a Soul Gem, as long as it is:
1. Empty
2. In your inventory
3. Able to fit the soul of the being you just slaugthered (ie grand soul can't fit in petty soul gem).
So, get a lot of empty soul gems, go into the forest and start casting Soul Trap on animals and killing them. Or just kill them with a weapon enchanted with Soul Trap. -
and another protip I shouldn't be sharing with you:
Follower --> share things --> Give Soul Trap-enchanted weapon + lots of empty soul gems. They will do the work for you
-
After I discovered the hidden chest that full of Soul Gems and assorted goodies and it resets itself every week, I never bothered to collect soul gems again
But if you want to know where that chest is google it as I wouldnt want to post a spoiler for those looking to stay honest.
-
Thanks guys. I'll try the soul trap trick, and just out of curiosity I will look for the hidden chest as well...
-
I have found plenty of chests full of goodies... but I never thought they got restocked weekly...

any mods to prevent my not-so-bright horse from attacking enemies (and getting in the way of my spells)?
-

Did you try Better Horses -
Does Steam automatically update the mods?
-
Only if you got them off Steam Workshop, but you are still at the mercy of the mod creators.
If they dont update you wont update. -
Thanks. I'm not aware that some mods were updated and consumed a lot of bandwidth.
When manually installing mods do I just unzip the files in the Skyrim Data folder? Wouldn't that overwrite some of the folders? -
So is Nexus mods or steam workshop the same? I'm just thinking that Nexus Modders would just put there mods in the workshop as well.
-

They should be. However I have come across some mods on the workshop that say something along the lines of, "For the most updated versions of this mod, check the Nexus".
IMO, I'm a little reluctant to use Nexus anymore because all the mods I've seen lately that are "promoted" go completely against the art style of Skyrim, they look like they belong in FF online or some other crappy JRPG. -
I agree completely about the JRPG styled females mods and armors that are so popular on the Nexus.
They completely ruin the atmosphere imo and they simply do not look like real women in that kind of setting.
Yes, women do not have plastic looking skin and yes they have dirt on their faces just like the men after traveling the wilderness of Skyrim.
I use a mod that enhances the textures on males and females but does not change the rugged middle-agish look that is fantastically well done by Bethesda.
Besides these annoying mods on the top of the list, everything else is fantastic about the Nexus.
The Nexus Mod Manager is the best tool for modding that I have ever ran across, not only managing which mods are active with easy install/uninstall and load order management... but also letting you know when updates are available and giving you the CHOICE to update or not.
Sometimes updates create problems that weren't there before and should be reviewed to determine if it's worth updating. (also you can keep a backup of the old versions). -

There are some mods that can't be distributed through Steam workshop (over 100MB in size, or mods that use a separate .esm master file, or SKSE, etc.).
For the most part, though the workshop seems to be a lot more convenient. If you have dozens (or hundreds) of mods, it is a PITA to have to keep checking the nexus pages for the latest updates when Steam workshop handles updates automatically for you. -

I hope the DLC adds multiple quests rather than one main storyline.
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
If it's retailing for $20, I think it's going to have a lot of content. -
This was a real pain especially with the bow and arrow.
-
Just finished the Moonpath to Elsweyr. I think that was the best quest I've played in Skyrim.
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Yes, a couple of the voice actors in that mod were really amazing! -
It was really outstanding. I'll try more quest mods for now while waiting for the DLC.

guys how well does this run on 7970m?
and skyrim is on sale on best buy $35,
and i have owned oblivion and skyrim on ps3...
worth getting? im not sure if i should hun down a 5th aniv copy or goty of oblivion,,,, -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Skyrim runs at about 40-60fps at 1920x1080 on my laptop with 5830m. (All settings completely maxed except using FXAA instead of MSAA.)
The 7970m is probably about 2x or 3x as powerful as my graphics card, so that should give you an idea.
Keep in mind Skyrim is well optimized to make use of the CPU, so a quad core CPU is going to help. -
Is anyone here playing skyrim on a laptop with graphic mods and enb ? sharpshooters for example ? =)
Iam trying to find out if its able to play it smooth with many mods on ultra -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
There are a few of those graphics and lighting mods that are simply FXAA / post processing profiles that don't reduce your framerate at all. -
yeah i know but i like to play skyrim with the highres pack and sharpshooter enb
I just saw this one here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldLQt3QkgDg
I mean over 40 fps with highres texture pack on just one 675m what could a system with dual 7970m or 680m performe ? -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
I imagine you might get better info about this checking with other people who are running the sharpshooter mod, perhaps on the nexus forums. As my laptop GPU is not very powerful, I have been avoiding any mods that make the game more demanding graphically.
As for the texture pack, if you are talking about the official high res texture pack from Bethesda, that one did not really impact frame rate at all for my laptop, perhaps 1-2 fps cost. I have also installed a few other high res replacers for ice textures, etc., that did not have any significant frame rate impact either. -
I forgot I had sunk over 120 hours into this game. Fired it up for the first time since... February? last night. I can't wait for Dawnguard.
-
Would you tell me those mods so I can install those?
Also, is there a difference in visuals if I use an ENB mod and changed my graphic settings from ultra to high? -
Realistic Lightning for example does not decrease the fps
but isnt your alienware performing good enough to play skyrim und ultra with graphics mods ?
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Here are a couple:
Realistic Lighting With Customization at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community ( video )
Realistic Lighting Without Post-Processing at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community
DYNAVISION - Dynamic Depth of Field at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community
There are dozens of these kinds of lighting and visual enhancement mods, but I haven't installed any, so I can't provide any helpful feedback. So far I've been sticking with vanilla lighting and a couple of higher res texture mods.
No idea, as I haven't used ENB for Skyrim. -
Yea but I want 60 fps. What other high texture mods would you guys recommend that won't affect fps too much?
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
I think if you have an SSD, it helps with the texture mods.
I've installed the Official High Res texture pack, Vurt's Skyrim Flora Overhaul and some Ice and snow textures and I have zero noticeable impact on framerate.
At any rate if you have dual 7970ms in crossfire, you should be able to run anything you want at close to 60fps, no? check out Skyrim HD (i think this is the most extensive high res textures) and let us know your performance. -
What is your average fps ?
On my desktop i get only ~30 -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
It does drop a bit lower than that on occasion, in Markarth, for example, but in most areas it is 40-60.
If you are having trouble with frame rate, there are only two settings that significantly affect the framerate for Skyrim. MSAA (anti aliasing) and Shadow Quality. You might try adjusting those or disabling MSAA entirely and using FXAA instead, which in my view looks about as good as 4xMSAA, but with almost no reduction in fps. -
Iam doing now a clean install let me see what i cant get
-
Would you send me link to your mods? 1 + rep to you btw.
-
Iam not him but here you got some links
Skyrim HD
Skyrim Flora Overhaul
Lush Grass
Serious HD Retexture Skyrim
=) -
+ rep to you as well.
So this won't hit fps? Is there a mod to check your fps? -
These mods will hit fps, especially grass mods and hardcore texture mods. The amount of detriment to your fps can be lessened by:
1.using an SSD and installing Skyrim on that drive.
2.Having a GPU with sufficient VRAM for texture mods (1gb CAN be enough if you change the texture formats to DXT5 and DXT1, also creating mipmaps has done wonders for eliminating stutters)
I can write a simple guide on how to save up Vram and increase outdoor smoothness with a texture optimizer program I found on the Nexus if you would like.
Also there are a couple of skyrim.ini tweaks that have improved smoothness for me as well.
Right now I'm back to studying

I'm so pumped for Dawnguard. Something about riding down punkass vampires from the back of Shadowmere really tickles my fancy.
