I almost stopped reading at "I wasn't really into Skyrim", heh.
This is going to be the most momentous event this year.
-
Can't actually put into words how much I'm looking forward to this game
-
I have to say, playing the Witcher series got me back into RPGs.

While I completely agree with this we are in the minority because the majority of the world is proving us wrong ;x -
I don't think so. Talking face to face with other gamers, I've found a lot of people play COD/BF type games just for the sake of playing, other people playing, but they are also bored.
Anyway, T-9 DAYS!!! Skyrim

We can think all we want but the sheer volume of sales speaks leaps and bounds vs. our opinions. -

I watched a few of the Skyrim Xbox live streams. I tried not to, but watching them was like crack.
I don't want to reveal any spoilers but let me say that after watching about 4 hours of gameplay, I'm even more excited about this game than I ever was before.
It is a massive improvement over both Oblivion and Morrowind. In many, many ways. -
How can you do that? Watch 4 hours of gameplay? Doesn't that ruin it for you? It's one thing t see a sneak peak or maybe a trailer (which I won't do), but 4 hours of gameplay?
Well I'm psyched. -
Before SC2 came out, I used to watch BETA streams for days.
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Yes, I spoiled some major things for myself that I kind of wish I hadn't seen, but I'm telling you, watching it was like crack! It was like the poor man's version of being able to play the game myself.
God I don't know how the devs were able to keep some of these things secret for this long. It is really a phenomenal game.
I imagine my first playthrough will last a few hundred hours at least, so there is still quite a lot that is unspoiled. But what I already saw was a doozy.
Much better story, more lifelike, engaging NPCs and factions, I suppose you could say it has more of a "soul" than the previous games in the Elder Scrolls franchise. All the crafting is also massively improved and it looked like an epic game even on a crappy flash video stream.
I know some people really wanted a different kind of combat animations with more realistic hit detection. That is not the case, as we have known since the first gameplay footage from January. However, all the animations are still greatly improved from Oblivion and the combat looks like a lot of fun to me. Plus you have to keep in mind what a massive, massive game this is, so there have to be some tradeoffs somewhere. -
I'm happy that it's coming out on a Friday, because I'll be locked in my room for the next two days.
-
Holy mother Theresa. Skyrim, the game, the whole thing, have been leaked to the public. Xbox 360 users have been playing this game for a while now. I believe the PC version was leaked earlier too. Seriously, how is this possible? Stores that got the games early and a worker there who uploaded it?
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim For Xbox 360 Already Leaked For Download On Torrent Websites -
The PC version floating around isn't real. I really hope it doesn't get pirated too hard, that's just going drive them further to consoles. Piracy on PC isn't the same as consoles, because MOST console owners have no idea how to run backups; whereas MOST PC gamers know how to run a pirated game.
Regardless, I'm waiting for my box to come in the mail. -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
In fact Bethesda haven't even released anything regarding the PC Version in their public demonstrations besides saying "It will be out with the consoles on 11/11/11" and some game specifications. Therefore, the PC Version so far has not been leaked out at all, which is a good thing.
However, the rise of console piracy and leaking is actually telling developers and console makers to might enact DRM on future consoles and networks. I think PC Piracy is starting to transition to Consoles... -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Only the Xbox version has been pirated. Probably from either a journalist or retailer who got their hands on the game early.
The retail PC version does not even come with an executable file, so it seems unlikely it would be leaked before release date. -
Hmm will be another week. I think I'll install Oblivion with the unofficial patches and the FCOM mod and see if I like this game.
I'm reading that Skyrim should have been called Oblivion 2.0. That it's just Oblivion with a new engine.
If I don't like Oblivion, chances are, I won't like Skyrim. -

It really comes down to this - don't force yourself to like it. You either will or you wont, different folks/different strokes. -

Great new dev diary video about the voice acting and score:

moviemarketing Milk Drinker
that's pretty much what I was expecting since the game was announced in 2010. they have always maintained that after finishing Oblivion they made a list of all the things they'd like to improve and that turned into the dev plan for Skyrim (after the engine was coded).
Oblivion was the starting point for the dev team, rather than Morrowind or Daggerfall. As Oblivion is one of my favorite games, I have been looking forward to Skyrim a lot since it was announced.
However, after viewing a lot of the unofficial video streams over the past few days, I'm really blown away by how much of an improvement it is over both Oblivion and Morrowind.
There actually seems to be a lot in common with Fallout New Vegas, in terms of the large number of factions, branching path quests, etc., but overall it seems like this game is massive, much bigger (more content) than all the previous Bethesda games, and a rather compelling main quest, which was one of Oblivion's shortcomings IMO. And obviously 70 voice actors is a lot more than the 12 voice actors used for Oblivion, which helps the immersion and makes the NPCs a lot more engaging. -
Leaking the PC version would be useless, since it needs online activation...at least it sas that on the box.

So Did mass effect and many other games. Hackers find a way past it.
Either way ive got my copy pre-ordered. -
Some people just won't like it... some people NEED to be pulled though something on rails... others don't need it but prefer it.
I absolutely abhor having to do things when you are told to in a role-playing game.
I prefer ignoring the main plotline and playing as I want to play then coming back to the main plotline a seasoned veteran... if I choose to do it at all.
My only worry for Skyrim is that it will be nerfed severely by the console it was developed on. (thus playing the game using the PC as a slightly-faster-xbox instead of the monster machine they are in comparison to the xbox's very limited hardware)
Bethesda has detailed RPGs down... they have a developed world and mythos already and just need a new story to bring to life. They are very good story-tellers and have been since daggerfall.
The only question really is... will the xbox destroy their ability to get the story through? -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
For once, it seems the DRM is doing a good job of preventing pre-release piracy of the PC version. There are essential files that are not included on the PC retail discs, such as the executable.
I wonder if publishers will begin requiring online activation for Xbox games in the future? -
Too late, already leaked on the PC.
Sounds like it was an internal leak as it's a developer's copy (Retail copy given to developers early). And this has been confirmed that there are developer copies as it seems a few developers have already set the records for finishing the game in just a few hours. -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
it's possible some one pirated the PC retail disc, but it is useless without the executable file. that only gets distributed via Steam on Nov 11. -
As I said, too late. Working copy, a developer's copy, already leaked. It works... As in playing the game.
-
There is no leak for PC currently, I guarantee it.
-
I scoured the internet and nope, a working PC leak never happened.
Any sort of streaming is either leaked Xbox gameplay, or press release PC/console gameplay. -
Can't wait for this game. Bethesda has done some weird crap after releasing games but their original product has always been quality. I have great confidence in another game to add to my " someday I'll finish but never fully beat the game" list that coincides with all their games. I gotta sit down one day and beat fallout, new Vegas, morrowind, oblivion, and now Skyrim... So many games so.little time for them all!
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Wait, Bethesda confirmed Skyrim is a Steamworks-Only game??? -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Yes, this was confirmed several months ago. -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I might just go buy the boxed version then for the map... -
A few things about the map: 1) it's not only in the CE but also in regular boxed editions, 2) it's not actual cloth, but more a "clothy" paper.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
It is actually a pre-order bonus for GameStop and as long as I can pin it up on my wall as a poster, I will be satisfied.

To be fair Oblivion had no DRM but still sold loads. -

watched some of the live streams - pretty hyped about all the spoilerry stuff I saw.
It seems like this is definitely a game with hundreds of hours of fun content. -

Hey guys, can someone tell me where this game is cheapest online?
-
Direct 2 Drive is doing preorders for $53.95, that's the cheapest I've seen it from a legit site. Haven't actually looked around at the grey market key stores.
-
Really hope it runs well - system requirements seem pretty modest actually and I could max out Oblivion so hoping for the same here with my laptop (specs in sig).
Other than BF3, it's been a while since I couldn't run a game near-maxed out at at least 1600x900 (usually my native res of 1920x1080) so hoping this trend continues. -
I'm seeing a lot of hype about this game.
I never played Oblivion or any previous Elder Scrolls game before. What makes this a game that I should buy? -
Well, the games are huge. There's a lot of questing and cool stuff to do. In Morrowind, there was a ton of diverse architecture and stuff to explore. Oblivion was a bit less diverse, but the game world was still massive.
Personally, I like them because you can play for hours and hours and hours and still barely have even touched the main quest. The first time I played Oblivion, I had become the Archmage of Cyrodiil, the leader of the Fighters Guild, and the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood (a clan of assassins) before I had even completed one quest beyond the mandatory opening sequence. Basically, the game takes you through a short tutorial and class creation bit, and then releases you into the world. You can become a vampire. You can create your own spells. You can create your own class. There's a ton of different ways to approach the game.
The defining aspect of the Elder Scrolls series is that they are very open.
Things that interest me about Skyrim are: the new setting, the revamped combat and leveling systems, and more stuff to do.
The Elder Scrolls games also tend to have extremely active modding communities (probably moreso than any other games). -
So compared to Fallout, Skyrim is more open and free?
-
If previous Elder Scrolls titles are any indication of how open and free Skyrim will be, then that is a resounding yes.
Time will tell of course if the fifth title in the series retains its roots, however I have no doubt that it will. I'm especially excited that the entire game world was hand-crafted like games prior to Oblivion; as great as Oblivion was, the repetative nature of its dungeons and some generated outdoor environments took away from its immersive nature.
Two more days! -

So what race are you guys gonna choose?
-
hmmmm, Nord, Redguard or Imperial I think. I always play as a warrior on my first playthrough. I am not much of a thief/assassin type to be honest.
-
Uh oh, when you give me a choice like that I freak out. I can never decide what class to pick at the beginning. Any pointers for someone that has never played an Elder Scrolls before, in terms of classes and skills? Can you respec btw?
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
there is no respeccing, but these are just starting bonuses, you can totally play any race as a warrior, mage, battlemage, thief or assassin type character.
and if you decide you want to try something else later, you can switch to using a different style at any time. -
There's no reason to respec. You just play the way you want to play and your character will eventually develop the skills suited to that playstyle.
I'll probably go for an Imperial Battlemage-type character. -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
I guess the main reason to pick a race is the way they look and for roleplaying the character. (plus the racial powers)
