Wow, I had no idea.
I did enjoy Bioshock 2 as well, however. It was interesting that they incorporated a moral dilemma where you had a choice to either save the little sisters and gain a little bit of ADAM or harvest the poor girls and gain a lot of ADAM. It was not always an easy choice considering the new powers available with more ADAM.

Yeah thats what I loved about the game. I got the happy ending too so I was happy with myself when I read about all the other angry people who finished the game who got the sad ending. I had no idea that the choices in the game would influence the ending btw. I just did the right thing. Couldn`t hurt those cute little girls
You? -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
I started out that way, but about halfway through I got greedy with the ADAM.
Felt horrible about it, too - the fact that it was was able to inspire an emotional reaction really impressed me, though.
I got the sad ending, which I liked and I thought it was very well done. I really enjoyed Bioshock 1, which struck me as extremely original and innovative. And I enjoyed Bioshock 2 because I felt more involved - I think very few games are able to tug at the player's heartstrings like that. The environments and the gameplay for both games was incredibly impressive. -
Yes agreed. I love the chaotic and crazy enemies, the story, the city. From the look of the trailer for Bioshock Infinite it seems like they will continue down this road. So great
If I remember correctly you got bonus gifts from the little girls too if you spared their lifes. Both ADAM and other nice little presents. So I think you didn`t need to be greedy to make a pretty tough character.
But facing the big daddies early in the game I could definitely see the need for quick ADAM
-
Not really, even with the gifts the character gets plenty more ADAM by killing the girls (though I never had the heart to do that).
There is more involvement at the cost of repetitiveness and a lesser phylosophical stance. Nevertheless one of the most original moments came close to the end when you play as a Little Sister, it was awesome. -

Bioshock, (The first one) was a huge socio-political statement. The creators were a bit on the fence about it though. Their world was "free from religion, capitalism, communism, etc.".. Yet.. when that happened, it lead to Rapture's downfall. -
Yeah downfall it was lol. Its all about Columbia now though..

Interestingly, it seems that Arkane was hired to do the "design, animation and art" for Bioshock 2 - these guys worked on Half Life 2, Arx Fatalis, Deus Ex, Thief, and now Dishonored -

BS2 was a good game. Not a great title, like the first, but still enjoyable. The "big sisters" were a great foe too. If Bioshock was a 9/10, BS2 was a solid 6. -

A powerful new type of enemy has been revealed, the Sirens. These ladies are sort of necromancers that bring other enemies back to life.

Well, that is disappointing; however, on the bright side it means the game won't be rushed and it is going to be a better game as a result:

***Bioshock Infinite Discussion Thread***
We're only 10 days until release day! So I think, like all other highly anticipated releases, this game deserves its own dedicated NBR thread to discuss all things Bioshock Infinite!
Who's excited about this game?
Would you kindly share your thoughts?

I have wanted and WAITED to see this for quite awhile now, and the long delays are just ridiculous.
It's been delayed AGAIN, and I wonder if it will be SUPPOSEDLY released at the end of March like they keep saying.
I guess we should be asking what YEAR this will be released, along with what month.
Since this is an AMD-released game this time (it was an Nvidia release last time), my guess for the reason for the long delay this time, is because AMD wants to do another one of their heavily-marketed release/promotions of this game to coincide with the release of their latest WHQL 14.0 GPU driver certification.
Bioshock was supposed to be released last year, then they said last year that it was going to be February of this year, then they delayed it again for March 23rd, and now they have delayed the release once again for later in the month.
They did that last fall with the "Gaming Evolved" release of the games, and I think that they are doing it once again this time with BioShock 3.
If I were a betting man, my money would be on that this is the reason for these latest 2013 release delays.
-
Game has confirmed to have gone 'gold'. Which means it's 100% finished code and the physical disks are being manufactured right at this very moment, ready to be shipped out on the 26th March! There's virtually zero chance of more delays now that we're this close to release *touches wood*
-
Eh? well, it means it's code that met the deadline that will ship. I wouldn't call it 100% finished code.
-
Day one patch FTW.
In all seriousness, irrational have a great track record I assume it will be relatively problem free. -
I'm hoping it's good. Looking forward to this one. This and Tomb Raider are the two games I'm planning on buying this year...
makes me want to go back and finish Bioshock 2.
Still working on Crysis 3, then want Tomb Raider, but maybe finish Bioshock 2 while I wait for a discount on both.
-
Very true. But we can hope!
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Theoretically, pushing back the release date could mean that they're taking the time to ensure that it's a solid release from day one. Practically, it's just as likely that they're scrambling because they already missed the original deadline so it'll be buggy as all hades. Here's hoping for the former (not that I care all that much, since I probably won't buy it until it's $5 anyway). -
I haven't played Bioshock 2, but this will definitely be a day 1 purchase for me. I loved the original Bioshock and everything I've seen and read about Infinite makes me think that it will be even better than the first one.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
What's the point of a day one purchase when preorders are often cheaper and include preorder bonuses? Don't get me wrong, I don't advocate preordering a game with no certainty that it's going to be worth the cost, but if you're "definitely" going to buy it on day one anyway... If your "definite" day one purchase is conditional on the reactions of people who bought it before you, I can get that, but if it's a certainty, just preorder and get some free stuff. -
Case in point; I preordered from GMG for $34
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Exactly. The only time I ever preordered a game, I cancelled the order before the game was released and was glad that I had in the end, so I'm not a huge fan of the whole idea, but you got the game cheaper than it'll probably be offered in the first couple months, and you probably got some bonuses as well, so if you're going to buy on the first day (dealing with all of the potential crap of a bad release day), you might as well get more for your money by preordering. -
Nothing is 100% set in stone. Obviously if it comes out and everyone's like "oh it sucks, stay away" I'm not going to buy it. Not to mention that most of the preorder bonuses I've seen are free games that I already own.

From what I have seen, Bioshock 3 doesn't appear to be nearly as good as the the I & II from a storyline point of view.
The graphics and detail appear to be a little better in this one, but it is a different character and timeline, so there is no continuity here- particularly in what is "Adam" and "Eve" and how the character gains his abilities.
There are so many differences in between the first two games and this one, that this 3rd is an entirely different game altogether.
If I am not mistaken, Bioshock 3 has been made by a new company, and that 2Kgames is not involved at all.
I dont' know if this is a good or bad thing at this point.
Since the game has been designed for the AMD GPU, then that is a plus for those of us with the much-maligned 7970m GPUs.
Hopefully, the game can really take advantage of the AMDs we have, and give us high FPS rates, and steady game play.
I LOVED Bioshock I, and really enjoyed Bioshock II, so my fingers are crossed about the third installment of this series.
The slightly improved graphics will be nice, but what drives this game for us will be the STORY, and the interaction of people in it.
As much as Doom 3 got my attention, it was not nearly as much as Bioshock I was, because it was the first game that I ever played that had REAL
problem-solving, suspense and intrigue, along with A LOT of twists and turns that created shock and entertainment value for me.
The level of detail in that respect was tremendous and ground-breaking, but will the 3rd installment be as good though in those same areas?
I am keeping my fingers crossed, and hope that my initial reaction from what I have seen is wrong, and that we will all be delighted in this new game.

@transphasic - actually Irrational Games, the original developers of Bioshock are the ones behind Bioshock Infinite, they just reverted back to the original name of the studio before it was bought by 2K Games. 2K Games are still the publisher of this game. Can't really comment on story, I mean we've only seen trailers, so there's a lot left to discover. Whether you prefer Rapture or Columbia is subjective I think - personally I can't make my mind up until I play this game and experience the story for myself.
I'm sure it will be at least a good game, if not great
-
I am looking forward to this, but sadly I won't be buying it anytime soon. I've learned my lessons; I'll wait for all dlc to be combined in a GOTY edition sometime later this year or next, and I will buy it at a cheaper price of course.
-
transphasic Notebook Consultant
That is good to hear. Thanks for the update and info.
I was worried that there would be some new company getting their hands on this, and screwing it up, because this was supposed to be out over a year ago, and
with the release date delays, there was a lot of speculation as to why.
I have no idea why it was delayed for so long like it was, but it was, and now we can finally have it in 3 weeks or so, provided that there are NO MORE delays.
All I care about, is that the game is a GREAT one, and even better than the first two were.
Since this latest installment has been written for AMD GPU's, then that would mean better FPS rates, stability, game-playing, etc.
I would then expect really high FPS rates to be seen in game play, so the anticipation is growing.
Can't wait to see it, and actually play it.

Day 1 patch and DLC that should have been part of the game and then + the actual day 1 patch. But then server issues and steam issue cause further delays on the patch. And then followed by another patch, then no more support. 3 months later, the community patch to do the real fixes that 2K didn't want to pay for.
-
What's wrong with a Day 1 patch? I can't honestly believe you'd rather not have one and be stuck with glitches. There'll always be bugs to fix, that's the nature of PC gaming. Might as well fix as many as possible before people start playing the game!
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
The theory is that, if the developers/publishers did their job, those bug fixes would be part of the 1.00 game, not a patch, which indicates they rushed the release. -
Here's an interesting recent interview with Ken Levine on the game for anyone who's interested!
@fatdragon - true, but what high profile game has there been which hasn't had a few bugs at launch? Unfortunately it seems inevitable in PC gaming. Besides, Bioshock has been delayed twice for the purpose of sorting bugs and extra glitches. I don't think development was particularly rushed. -

I`m sooooooo gonna play this game
(I just hope I don`t have to go dragging that girl along with me throughout the entire game. I hate having to protect another character) -
They've said that you don't actually drag her along, it's not like an escort quest where you have to guard a brainless idiot for the entire game, she just helps you. I agree, escort missions drive me insane.
-
Thank God. I get stressed out so easily with that kind of missions. Like in Bioshock 1 in the later part of the game where you had to protect the little girls from point A to point B while getting attacked by gazillion bad guys. God knows how many times I died trying to save them all.

Good news for anyone who preordered on Steam, Tier 3 unlockable X-com looks like it's guaranteed to be unlocked now seeing as it's already 64% with a week still to go!
EDIT: up to 69% just overnight

I hadn't seen the beach scene previously. Looks great. I love the fact that 'girls just want to have fun' is playing in the background - anyone else notice that?
WHY MUST I WAIT ANOTHER WEEK ARGHHH!!! -
