I would wager midnight tonight. Not sure if it would be Eastern or Pacific time, though. -
Ladies and gentlemen, the reviews are in, PC version currently standing at a whopping 95 on Metacritic

BioShock Infinite: The Kotaku Review
Kotaku gives it an Yes! I have absolutely no doubt now.

saturnotaku Notebook Nobel Laureate
Just finished the pre-load. For once I'll have a fair amount of free time to play it immediately.
-
Out now everyone! The opening reminds me a lot of Bioshock 1, and the UI as well.
Check out some screenshots I took! The game is just too beautiful for words.

Still 9 hours left here in Norway
-
Excellent sounds good
Same for me in UK! -
Been playing for a few hours now (unlocked at 11pm GMT here in UK) and I have to say it is an incredible game, I am enjoying it more than the original Bioshock so far - that is saying something considering I am only at the start of the game and not even met Elizabeth yet. Of course that may change later but so far really really good.
However, bad news. Stuttering. Lots of it, every few seconds. I have high framerates, 40-60fps. But stuttering is noticeable all the time and freezing occurs for a few seconds when the game loads a new area. GPU usage is erratic. Seems it suffers the usual UE3 issues but to a larger degree. Will try to find a fix.
It is a truly great game but has a few technical issues at the moment, at least on NVIDIA GPUs. -
Trying to make it the last hour. Hopefully I can get through an hour or two of the game before I'm falling asleep.
-
Well that's it for me tonight. Spent 3 hours now in-game, but not yet found Elizabeth, taking my sweet time to explore everything. Trust me, you'll want to! This game has an amazing atmosphere. So, so good. Combat is so much better than original Bioshock. Hopefully stuttering will be fixed soon in a patch and/or driver update. Still playable if you turn settings down, but not ideal and shouldn't have to when game runs at above 40fps on Ultra. Ah well. Seriously GOTY stuff, technical issues aside. Loving it.
Goodnight and hope the launch goes well over in the Americas! Enjoy the game, it's 100% awesome

Glad you're enjoying it man! I'm about to start playing once steam finishes updating it... I had it preloaded, but I guess it's already been patched.
-
I've only played it for 5 mins or so far but the game does indeed look beautiful. For those with the 7970m prepare to be surprised...seems to run smooth as butter, a solid 60 fps with v sync and 90 without. No stuttering
.
Ok I've only played for 5 mins and things could change but I've kinda got used to being disappointed from the go with most games and the 7970m...happy days.
Edit: That's at ultra settings

I've been playing for around 3 hours. It's a great game (unsurprisingly) with excellent art direction and writing. I wish that Irrational could have pushed the technological envelope a little further though. UE3 is really showing its age, and despite this being the best looking Unreal title I've played, there are some bad textures and limited graphical features. I just would have liked to see more eye candy, especially for higher end rigs. It could use better aa, textures, and lighting... and I'm sick of first person shooters where you're just a pair of floating hands holding a gun lol. You should have a shadow and be able to look down and see your feet lol. I guess I'm nitpicking though
-
I was really surprised at how well it runs. I was expecting a lot worse given how many objects are on the screen at any given time. I've had to turn down dynamic shadows and ambient occlusion to high/normal though. The dx11 shadowing causes frame drops from 60-30 in certain directions for me (the water pan in the lighthouse, when you first wake up in columbia, watching the guy getting his shoes shined in the first major area, etc).
I'm hoping there'll be a driver update for that (at some point...cough..amd), because it seems like something that could be improved. Also agree with the poster above that some textures could definitely be improved. A little skyrim flora overhaul would do this game good lol.
Took some non-spoilery screens as I played if anyone is interested. Bioshock Infinite Screenshots - Imgur -

lol yeah, that's exactly what we need. Those rosebushes they use throughout the game look ps2 era. -
What's up with the benchmark? Export to excel file, really? lol. No in-game results. I know it's petty but come on.
-
Man, I'm only about 2 hours in, and I have to say that some of the racial imagery and themes are really in your face. It's at turns disturbing,
and funnylike when you win the lottery and the prize is to throw baseballs at an interracial couple.the wanted posters describing your character as a mulatto dwarf -
So no-one else have microstutter then? I'm not talking about level load hitches, which only occur in the same place each time. I mean random and frequent stutters even though fraps shows fps remains constant
-
failwheeldrive Notebook Deity
I get heavy stuttering when the game is loading, but that's it. Framerates drop from 120fps down to 40-50 and back up, which is really jarring. -
No, I'm experiencing it too. I wouldn't necessarily call it a "stutter", per se, the effect to me is more like a drop in framerate, even though I know my GPU is more than capable.
-
I streamed my whole playthrough yesterday night on twitch, on an msi gt 70 with a 680m playing at 1080p ultra and streaming at 720p 60fps. It was smooth as butter from the begining to the end!
A really nice game took me 10hours to beat on hard. -
Reviews seem to say the game is great and I don't doubt that. But is anyone else irritated by these reviews full of hyperboles and throwing around perfect scores?
10/10 means it's perfect. That means the game has no room for improvement, it means it's perfect. I just don't get these reviewers. They seem to turn a blind eye to some games and others no matter how good it is, they find things to be complain about. -
Review scales are always inflated. That said, 10/10 does not have to mean perfect.
-
failwheeldrive Notebook Deity
Exactly. Review scores aren't science. A 100% score doesn't mean a game is flawless, just that the reviewer thought it was exceptional.
Agree though, this game is getting hyped up like crazy. It's good and all, but I wouldn't say it's "revolutionary" or some BS like that lol. -
MaximumPC has given scores of 11/10 before, so no, 10/10 doesn't mean perfect.
-
yeah to me a 10/10 means the game was exceptional and any flaws did nothing to alter my enjoyment of the game, when the flaws start impacting on the playthrough i start to reduce my score....anyways my copy has been sitting at game waiting for me to pick up, ill be heading into town after lunch today to get, looking forward to it i must say.
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Nice! anyone had a chance to start playing yet?
Busy with work this week, no time to try it ;-( -
Yep, I'm a couple of hours in...pretty fun so far although not as amazing / revolutionary as many reviews are making it out to be. But we'll see how it unfolds.
Runs awesome on 7970m with 13.3 beta 3 drivers

So I spent a total of 5 1/2 hours playing this game and its awesome, only thing that gets me is that was literally how long the game was.... 5 1/2 hours long, hopefully the expansions to it are like extending the story out because this was sweet.
-
You shouldn't have blasted through it. I'm at least 5 hours in and I'm pretty sure I'm not close to the end.
-
What is your honest rating /10?
-
I don't think you and I played through the same game. I just reached the 12 hours mark and Elizabeth still has not changed her outfit yet (that sounds wrong). People say this game is 15 hours long but I feel like I havent reached half of it.
-
Is it true it uses a modified Unreal Engine 3 for the graphics and if so how does it run? If DMC and others are to go by with UE3, this should be an easy game to run at full graphics.
EDIT: Just seen the scores on notebookcheck. A great engine which runs great too.

I agree, I can run it at Ultra with just the Shadows turned down to High and it runs well. If I also turn Ambient Occlusion to Normal it runs at solid 60. Just this hellish microstutter - driving me crazy!!!
This is what I mean about microstutter - it is not linked to the level sections loads that everyone has, this is constant wherever I am in a level:
Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
so is the microstutter officially a problem? getting it too every now and then, utilization drops to 30% for a couple of seconds...
-
so i just finished the game. It took me around 21 hours (maybe an hour worth of idle time). It is incredible, the ending is quite similar to a movie released not long ago. Funny thing if I want to, I can spoil it with just one word =). But yeah Bioshock Infinite deserves every single 10 and perfect it got.
@zymphad:I'm confused, are you talking about Bioshock 1 and 2 or Spyro??? -
My post was too inflamatory, deleted. But I suppose you didn't see the South Park episode of Stan playing Guitar Heroes? He gets tired of the game, goes to a shop and was introduced to a purple dragon game. You keep stabbing yourself in the arm with drugs and chase a purple dragon you can never catch. So was talking about Bioshock 1, I haven't played Bioshock 2, wasn't interested to try. But yeah, if someone asked me to describe Bioshock, I'd say it was a game that glorifies child abuse and drug use, trying to catch that purple dragon.
Luckily I predict Bioshock Infinite will go on sale very soon, I don't think it will keep it's premium price long and check out Infinite. Follow around the giant eyes and boobs, she's the new purple dragon maybe? She does have purplish outfits doesn't she? And her eyes are sort of bluish almost purple, haha, that's hilarious. -
That's an absurdly ignorant point of view. Holy crap. You have these insanely strong opinions that are completely unfounded in anything resembling fact, yet you feel the need to use those opinions as a basis to insult literally everyone on this forum.
-
I don't even know what to say to that. Just...either try the game and see for yourself or not commenting in this thread at all. You would do a favor to everyone here that way.
-
I found the solution to your problem: 310.90 drivers! work for me, no stuttering exept when loading areas, which i can accept. you loose about 3 fps with the older drivers but its worth it

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Heard this game has a "1999" difficulty mode. I lolled
.
-
Ah OK thanks, will give it a try! Fingers crossed!
-
no I had the exact problem with far cry 3, had to use stock 302.77 drivers: far cry worked perfectly, all the other games wouldnt even start >.<
-
Yup my first playthrough will be with this mode xD. It unlocks after beating the campaign once or you can hit these keys on the main menu: Up Up, Down Down, Left Right, Left Right, Escape Enter. That's for PC version.
So far i'm enjoying the challenge with some dang aggressive enemies that have high health and hurt a lot. Makes the no health regeneration thing a lot more serious...I do spend a lot of time scavenging for food/salt and med kits. -
I just finished it. Probably sank about 10 or so hours in and could have spent a lot more. The story, though...
