yeah but i dont use imageshack or photobucket, to me they all suck & thats just my opinion. i just posted the direct link to the image, and u guys are talking about saving bandwidth, well its using less bandwidth to post a direct link than a tiny sample image.

I thought the "display power savings" option only affected performance when running on the battery...

Try using the newer drivers. Try the 14.31.1 driver.

BTW, it takes me around a minute to load the page with the most images you posted. I am on wireless, but the router is connected to a 3MB/sec internet and I get average download speeds of 200-300KB/s. It's slower than the rated speed because really, it never reaches theoretical speeds except for the most optimal situation.

And if it takes you 5-10 minutes to convert, well, maybe you should get a faster internet connection.

    EDIT:
Halo Demo, same detail settings as Unreal, at 1024x768

    Im on 14.31.1

And Whoa Whoa Whoa............Im on a 6 meg Line Avg Speed 700KB/s - 830KB/s & im on Wireless as well dude & it only takes me maybe 10 seconds to load a image.

Yeh it does cuz i took like 10 screens Than i had to convert them then i had to upload them so yeah 5-10 minutes would be right.

Portal on the X3100 (Runs Good)

Game runs pretty good, i think the game would of ran better in dxlevel 70 though. Avg 15-35, Drops below 20 only when going threw The Portals. Theres a setting to where you can change the Portal to just be a color not the hole see threw thing, & that should make it run better.

    Settings:

    1280x800
    All High
    dxlevel 80

Why do you have to post so many large screen shots? Its annoying because the page no longer fits horizontally on my screen and I have to pull the scroll left and right to read messages.

I get the same framerate in portal but I had to lower the settings and the game often as pauses when looking into a portal or just starting a new area... its no way smooth...

My lappy has identical specs to yours minus 500MB of RAM, which doesnt make too much of a difference. Could it be vista?

If you can figure out how to get civilization 4 to run smoothly I will forgive and praise you for the rest of my life. Currently, i get a smooth 25fps zoomed all the way in, but when I zoom out the frame rate drops dramatically. Late game it is unplayable IMO.

Send me a savegames with a screenshot (with fraps) to know how much FPS you got, i'll try the same thing. (also include your settings).

I'll do the same thing than you.

Can anybody tell me what's the deal with my laptop?

I recently bought oblivion, and I meet the minimum requirements (with GMA x3100), but the game always crashes when I adjust the graphics settings in game or when I try to leave the tutorial dungeon where you enter into the sewers. I already tried reinstalling it and using the Oldblivion mod, but they didn't help.

There is nothing wrong with the disk, and even when i adjust the graphics before clicking on the play game option and set everything to lowest settings and resolution it still crashes.

What's the deal? I have 1Ghz ram so how could I check to see if my computer is using too much ram?

I would greatly appreciate a quick reply. Thanks

The x3100 will not run Oblivion. Oblivion is one of the most demanding games on the market, and this card doesn't have the horsepower to run such a performance beast.

Try downloading this mod - Oldblivion

This is made for older, less powerful systems. I have heard good things about this mod with lower-end cards.

*EDIT* Sorry, didn't see you said "Oldblivion". I really wouldn't know what the problem is. What error do you get when it crashes.

I have Vista, just to note, and after it exits the game a window comes up saying "oblivion has encountered an error", or something like that, and then proceeds to check for what caused the error, but after that my computer freezes and I have to restart it.

Imageshack will automatically convert images for you, do it takes only as long as uploading them. I'd suggest using their thumbnail method, as it makes things easier on everybody. Remember not all people on notebook review are wealthy americans. The fastest internet connection available in my area is 1.5mb, at $70/month. Thumbnails make things easier for me to only load the screenshots that are relevant to me.

Also, the forum itself has a feature to upload picture attachments and create thumbnails.

Back when I had vista installed, I got Oblivion working with the 15.7 driver. Try turning down ALL the video options in the launcher first. Also, the game has many texture glitches in outside areas, and the fps isnt that great. When attacking enemies, the frame rate gets really choppy.

I am going to reinstall Oblivion first and not mess with the graphics in game, because that what seemed to make the game mess up and not work.

If I still get the same results as I did without messing with the graphics in game, then the only thing I can think of is that my ram is somehow being used up by other programs.

If anybody could tell me how to check my computer to see how much ram is being used by my other programs I would greatly appreciate it.

you DONT need to reinstall oblivion. I had the EXACT same problem as you (adjusting the settings in game, and exiting the sewers). Install the 15.7 driver. However, like i already said, the frame rate is going to be all over the place even with the graphics set to the lowest.

*edit* Are you using Vista or XP? I've tested oblivion and can confirm it works with 14.32 for xp as well.

15.7 is for Vista, 14.32 for XP. Read this: http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=129343

You are probably going to come right back to this thread telling us that you are unable to install the driver. Please use the search feature and try to figure it out yourself.

    Hello guys!
I'm seriously thinking on buying this laptop:
HP Compaq Business Notebook 6510b http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2050938
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 / 2.2 GHz
    4 MB - L2
    1G DDR II SDRAM - 667 MHz
    Intel GMA X3100
Microsoft Windows Vista Business (32/64 bits)

I'd like to know if game like HL2, PES, HALO, DOOM3... will run well.
Also, what are the games that cannot be played on it?

    Thank you very much!

    Hi,

I got the 6510b but with the T7300 (2GHz) and I upgraded to 2 GB RAM.
(And I'm using WinXP because Vista sucks as hell. After booting it twice, I formated my drive ;-D)

BUT I have to warn you: The laptop was so noisy that it was no fun using it at all. I had to send it back to HP, they exchanged the MB and/or the CPU-cooler, now it's quiet. And I'm not the only one with this problems. But maybe they fixed the problem now, and you'll only get in trouble when you buy one 2nd hand..

Anyway, 5 hours battery lifetime with the 6cell battery just rock!

    Games:

It depends on how you want to play. HL2 runs smooth in DX8 Mode, HL2 is even "playable" with DX9, but the OrangeBox Games (HL2:EP2, TF2, Portal) are damn unplayable under XP (I heard the Vista driver for the X3100 is better there, at least in Portal, dunno about EP2). You have to run them in DX8 mode to play them seriously.

Halo runs fine, hardware mode, no probs, around 30 fps.

I didn't test D3/PES, but I think they will run.

But you can't expect to game with the X3100 in multiplayer (under 30 fps.. you'll be the uber-loser, hitting nothing). At least not in FPS games.

What do you mean when a map is entirely discovered? When the fog of war is completely gone? What is your frame rate when you zoom all the way out (before the clouds)?

I get about 12fps, if there are a lot of trees. Mid-late game this would be unplayable because tons of units/buildings would also occupy the land.

    Hello,

    Thank you very much!!

Do you have any idea if that noise problem is only in the 6510b with a T7300? or it's the same problem with the T7500?
    Maybe they fixed it?
Because I think that this Laptop is a great deal, especially that its price is not expensive compared to similar laptops.

Hey guys, well, a couple hours and a naps later, I finally managed to read this whole thread, and I have a few questions.

Ok, so I just ordered a refurbished XPS m1330 with these stats:

    CPU: Core 2 Duo(1.5GHZ)
    RAM: 2 GB
    HD: 160 GB
GPU: well, owing to the thread I'm posting this in, I think you all know.....

So, I really got this laptop because of all the amazing reviews, but I didn't have enough cash to cough up for the 128mb dedicated GPU. I'm not a heavy gamer, but I would like to know if this will play lower level games. Like rts's such as: AOE 3 and BFME 2. Plus the occasional fps that isn't that high end. Such as: CS and BF2. That's all I really care about in gaming. Is this notebook up to that.

Plus, I reall don't wanna sound like a noob(though I know I will), but is it possible to upgrade from integrated video memory if you have a friend wokring at dell. I mean, can't anything that's put together be pulled apart? The whole upgrading thing is really secondary in this post the main quetsion is the paragraph above. Anybody got any answers?

Well, my laptop is fixed now because they installed new parts, so I assume they are building the laptop nowadays with the new, "silent" parts. If they don't, well, you've got warranty, just send it back to HP and let them fix it.

The problem is not CPU-related (core-temp was always ~30-35°C, but in AC mode the cooler was going mad even if you just touched the touchpad), so I assume the prob is the same with the T7500. I furthermore assume it's a problem with the ACPI chip / cooler controller, so it's on the MB, and that is the same with the T7500.

Apart from that noise-issue, the laptop really is great. When I bought it, the next laptop with 4-5 hours uptime AND a powerful CPU was +300€ (I searched & compared other HP/ASUS/MSI/Acer/IBM(Lenovo)/DELL)
The HP support is, relatively speaking, good. (It's at least not sucking so hard as other support, e.g. ASUS). I sent the laptop to HP one day before christmas and had it back on new year's eve, which makes it really quick (4 work days)
