I highly doubt that Oblivion would run OR even look pretty... I would recommend Morrowind.

Oblivion won't be playable on that card. Not to your satisfaction. I did hear about a mod though, that will drop the graphics where it is playable on a minimal system.
-
That mod is called Oldblivion. Apparently you can run oblivion on really old graphics cards like the ATI9200. It's worth taking a shot at because my friend's tried it on his old 9200SE and oblivion ran perfectly fine.

This info is really useful to me. =)
Thanks a bunch. -
Great find Teh Noob, I couldn't remember the name! Rep'd for helpful information.

Could someone run a check on Oldblivion and report a feedback on FPS and some sample screen shots?

The Sad thing about it is most of you are running Core 2 Duo's & im only running a Dual Core and im putting yall FPS Results to shame Especially those Halo results someone posted earlier, what yall got running on your computers? Cuz stuff like MSN Messenger, AOL crap, AIM Etc... sucks alot of memory. idk more test coming soon. -
Hi everybody.
I am new here and i have a laptop similiar to Unreal596: A t2310 dual core at 1.46ghz, windows vista home premium and intel x3100 256mb (1GB ram).
About the drivers, i installed the 15.7 and in my opinion they are bad. When i put my Vista on suspend mode and then open the laptop, i see the login screen in 16:9 (or 16:10) mode, and after doing the login, goes to the normal resolution (1280x800).
And when i open first time the Vista, the screen flicks 2 times.
After that, i decided to rollback to the 15.6.1 drivers because they look more stable.
I tested the laptop capacities and installed some games:
Need for speed Most Wanted (800x600 Low)- works with everything low and rain particles activated. 11 FPS minimum. 17-18 on Main Menu. (15.6.1 drivers)
Need for speed Carbon (800x600 Low)- Sometimes 12 FPS on Main Menu, 14 on Challenge series Menu, 17 on the Game... If you turn off the Particle System, only increase 1 FPS. (15.7 drivers)
Race The WTCC Game (800x600, damage on, everything low) - On the inside car view it goes laggy. And with heavy rain, goes more laggy. If you switch view to the hood, you get more FPS between 15-20 FPS (or something like that). (15.6.1 drivers)
Test Drive Unlimited - Too slow. 10 FPS Maximum out of city and an average of 7 FPS. Everything set to Low, including some tweaks to disable the flying papers and birds... (15.7 drivers). Not recomended...
Intel, we are waiting for some better drivers.

I'm hitting a constant 30+ FPS on halo with the C2D, running in software mode on Vista at 1024x768. 15 FPS barely qualifies as playable
Same settings as you, at 1024x768 (not using -use14)
Same settings as you. (not using -use14)
Edit: unreal, if you're using vista for those screens, make sure to run it in software mode. It will yield at least 50% better framerates at most times. -
No i don't use Vista it Sucks, Read my Sig, im on Xp & don't forget ur on a Core 2 Duo and thats alot faster than what im on. Also if you had read what i wrote, when i took those screens i forgot to add -Use14.
-
While Vista may not be as good as XP (subjective), I hardly think it "sucks". Just wondering, what does the -Use14 command do? I haven't used it myself.
-
-Use14 Forces the game to run as a Shader 1.4 card. If you have a relatively new graphics card such as those mentioned above, then forcing PS1.4 mode on them will improve performance at the cost of some visual elements, namely:
# No bumped mirrored surfaces
# Some video effects are two-pass
I also found a little Audio Tweak in XP & it sure made it Perform better now & didn't even notice Sound Quality lost. Heres some more Halo Screens with about a 5 - 10 FPS Gain from the last screens.
More Game Test Coming Soon. -
Rainbow Six Vegas On The X3100 (Somewhat Playable)
The Game is somewhat playable, There is still alot of settings i can tweak in the Config File. There is also away to run it in OpenGL & if i figure that out the game should run alot better. Avg 10-11 FPS, My Goal: At least 15-25 FPS.

P-p-p-please help me!

I'm using an x61 Lenovo tablet. I loaded Oblivion and it failed to even start. So I tried the Oldblivion mod. Perfect. I downloaded it from the site, installed and ran the game. I'm not sure how to report fps, but it is perfectly playable.
This is the site: http://www.oldblivion.com/
Whoops. Posted a bit too soon. Running around, and talking to NPCs is fine. Get into simple combat and the frame rate falls way down. I'm changing that vote to "not playable". Too bad. Nice game. -
Man Rainbow Six looks bad. I mean, I'm no graphic perfectionist, but I think it would frustrate me to play a game at THAT low settings, and still get unplayable frame rates.
-
^^ it doesn't look bad, the only thing bad is the FPS
-
To me it looks terrible. Look at the frame around the doors.
-
thats because its at 800x600 dude.
-
I realize that. I don't believe I ever said it wasn't. Just my opinion... frustrating when you try and play a game that looks like that. BUT! Much much credit goes to the guy for optimizing the X3100, and making the best of what he's got!

Intel removed the 14.32 / 15.7 drivers from the homepage because they seem to have some serious issues in it. But they didn't inform anyone or didn't even say what kind of bug..
Intel's driver PR just sucks -.-
UnReaL596, thanks for your work with all the screens, but your definition of "playable"... ^^
let's just say 10-12 fps is not playable. It's not even "somewhat playable". Playable = +25 fps average..
Halo runs fine on XP though.
EDIT:
some Intel guy said the roadmap shows the new 14.33 drivers around valentine's day, btw

15.7 was not pulled. -
StarScream4Ever Notebook Consultant
The problem was that the 15.7 driver has a serious bug that would cause all game launches to crash. User would encounter a blinking screen several time then return back to desktop without launching the game. The problem seems to affect even older games like Unreal 2004. So yea, its a serious thing. Nice going Intel.
-
Kinda true, but to me anything from 15 FPS & up is playable, but it all depends on the game really though.
-
I would argue that 99% of games are unplayable at 15fps. And typically, with very few exceptions, if a game is getting 15fps, the hardware is being pushed to the limits. When hardware is being pushed to the limits and you are getting 15fps, chances are that the frame rate is frequently dipping below 15fps.
a solid 20 fps is pushing the limits for me. However, anything over 30fps, so long as its stable, is great. There have been a lot of discussions about whether there is a noticeable difference between 30 fps and 60 fps (both stable). I've heard that the human eye can't tell the difference. Its easy to see 15 fps though. If you have been playing games for any period of time, you can usually tell when the frame rate hits that 'chop level.' This is around 20 fps. For most games, 15 fps is just too annoying for me and I can't stop thinking about it while I play. -
Well said Noxxle. I would rather knock my settings down to get better framerates, than have a good looking game, running at 15- FPS. Anything from 30+ is perfect for me. And I can deal with 25 or so, when in games like CoD4 or Battlefield 2142 when all hell breaks loose! (Arty, smoke/grenades, 15+ men firefights.)
-
Thats ur opinion dude, now when i say like 15-25 FPS doesn't mean im gettin 15 all the time, id get 15 like when i was in heavy action scenes. but most of my test with the X3100 are from 20-40 FPS which is Playable to me.
-
So, I misinterpreted this. Sorry, "dude."
-
no problem

Halo 2 on the X3100 (Somewhat Playable)
It Runs Decent (At least to me) but the game would run a lot better if i was able to turn down or off some settings, but u can't which is total BS.

Can you please post fewer screen shots, or link to them?
-
huh why? .
-
They take too much bandwidth to load for those of us with shoddy internet connections, and they're also pretty big, so depending on the monitor resolution the reader is forced to scroll sideways to see them. It's very easy to upload a picture onto Image Shack and choose one of the preview options after it's uploaded. Placing the link they give you straight into your post will display a small picture in your post that links the reader to the full resolution version. Easier on the bandwidth-impaired (like myself at my current location), as well as limiting vertical and horizontal scrolling.
-
Its not my fault you guys have crappy internet, I only use Tinypic & i don't do imageshack it sucks so oh well dude. Im sorry but deal with it.
-
Image Shack sucks when you have pictures getting a lot of views, and trust me, NBR isn't going to pull in that many views. And it's obviously your choice on how you display your pictures, I just wanted you to know that it's very easy to post them in a convenient way for all readers. It's not just about the bandwidth.
-
ok i will look into doing that.

***EDIT****
Futureshop lied, the Acer Aspire 5630 doesn't have an x3100, it has a 3100. Any thoughts on what I should do? I bought the pc knowing at some point I would upgrade the video card, however based on what I saw I figured the x3100 could tide me over until I could shell out for a card.
***********
Has anyone gotten Call of Duty 4 running on their x3100? Mine just keeps bombing with:
I have the latest drivers for Vista: 1.57
Not sure if I'm reading it right on this thread but it seems that maybe at some point Intel had some beta drivers that worked with CoD4? Cause as far as I can see from the specs, it supports Vertex shader 4.0.
Here's the specs on my computer.
The only weird thing I notice is that the driver that is installed claims it's for "Intel G33/G31 Express chipset family". Should that not display as 96x?
Thanks in advance -
Team Fortress 2 on the X3100 (Very Impressed)
Very playable & i barely tweaked the config file, really the only thing i did was force the game into DX8, & look at the results..... 1280x800, & not that silly 800x600 that someone posted earlier & he had a core 2 Duo as well.... HAHAHA...... My Dual Core puts that Core 2 Duo to shame Seriously........
Settings Screen:
Screens:
Half Life 2: Episode 2 Coming later
PS: Seriously what do you guys have running on your computers? cuz im getting better results on my Dual Core than your Core 2 Duo's & thats straight up its SAD... -
StarScream4Ever Notebook Consultant
Most impressive. Maybe cuz while you were playing around with config files some of us were still playing with the same configuration on our much 'powerful' Core 2 processor.
-
I don't think anyone is doing anything wrong. Team Fortress 2 isn't THAT demanding. Heck, the Nvidia 7150 and ATi x1270 both ran at better framerates. Unreal, it seems like you're getting a little arrogant. I mean, please don't flame me. I'm not trying to be insulting, but after telling someone who gave you GOOD advice they should just "deal with it", and now saying your system performs better than the Core 2 Duo's, which is "sad"... seems like your virtual head is getting a little big. We are all impressed with what you are doing with such a low end card... but come on.
-
Just for the record, this was sarcasm. Unreal, you are a nut. -
Has anyone tried "The Witcher" on a laptop with the X3100? I would like to see how it runs/looks...
-
I have on both XP and Vista. the start of the game was unplayable for me (5fps or less).
Oblivion, on the other hand, is almost playable. There are a ton of texture errors, and it is really jerky when you are attacking things. In-doors, frame rate is all over the place 15-50fps. Probably averages 20+ (with most video options set to low). Outdoors, with distant landscapes off, about 15-20fps. Cities are all over the place with the fps as well. -
I am sorry to say, but X3100 doesn't exist on desktops. It's meant for laptop. The only available equivalent of the X3100 on the desktop is the X3000, and the soon to be released X3500.
Call of Duty 4 isn't working because its not supported by the GMA 3100. It will only run on GMA X3100 and the X3000/X3500. This is lack of hardware, not lack of drivers, and until you get a graphics card with the hardware support, you will not be able to run it.
Laptop:
GMA X3100
Desktop:
GMA 3000
GMA 3100
GMA X3000
GMA X3500
The "X" makes all the difference
.

hmm u mad? dude the thing im tryin to say is that ur core 2 duo's should be getting much better results than my Dual Core & im not seeing that, so this brings me back to my question:
What do you guys got running on yor computers? -
hmm......... one word: WoW!!!
Lmao @ people gettin mad at my Dual Core out performing Core 2 Duo's HAHAHAHAHA -
I'm not getting mad about that. I just think you are a little bit crazy. You contradicted yourself earlier, and apparently you have no ability to detect sarcasm.
-
No. It doesn't. I have a Core 2 Duo and 8400GT. If you want to play such childish games as "My CPU out performs yours!!!", I can gladly say... my laptop is a tad bit better. You're getting to ****y. You have a non-gaming card. With all of these mods and tweaks, you are trying to convince everyone you can use it AS a gaming card. Problem- 20-FPS isn't playable to a lot- nay, most people.
Please, stop with the immature posts. -
Of Course urs is better dude look at ur specs, and just n case you haven't noticed this is a X3100 thread and judging by your specs you don't have one, so why are you in here?
