I watched the IGN PC video review and at the end the guy said he would choose the PC version because of the more beautiful graphics and the controls of the keyboard & the mouse feels better and easier to use than the 360 controller. At the end it all depends on whether you want to sit on a sofa or put it on a desk to play it.

Looks Good I Wonder How My C90s Will Hang
-
Good. Espescially in DX9
-
So, I was really looking forward to this game, went out and got it, got it home, installed it, and the #$!@%$#!^%^$&ing activation thing won't let me activate the game, it keeps telling me that I have an invalid key. Since I bought it from Best Buy I'm a bit skeptical of this, particularly since it alternates that message with the one telling me the server is down.
I'm on hold with tech support (oh, and they switched the american and canadian tech support numbers in the book) and emailed the people the thing said to email.
Anyone actually get this thing to work, PC version that is. Sorry to vent, but I'm pretty peeved, I dropped $50 on a long awaited game and they can't even be bothered to get their worthless anti-piracy garbage working properly.
Edit: never mind, I just got it to work, they printed the key on the back of the manual and with the font they used and the way its printed two v's looked like a w (they are touching and you can't see any white between them). -
Probably you are using an older version of WinRAR which conflicts with UAC... who knows...
Anyways, try unzip the content files first (manually drag and drop files into a folder) and then run the "setup.exe" from there, be sure to use "Run As Administrator"... or you could just disable UAC, restart your computer, and try. -
WTF?! What is a side-by-side error?
-
It's pretty ironic. One of the things "Games for Windows," games were suppose to do was take these kinds of issues away. Guess not.
I am kind of ticked off, but I don't know what to do. Hopefully I can at least run in in XP. -
I'm thinking that this is a vista error. It just feels like one.
-
-
Your not gonna lose much by playing it in XP. DX10 and DX9 looks nearly the same. DX10 has some extra detail, but nothing you notice at a first or second glance.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
That is a differently, run as administrator and disable uac problem. Make sure you are running as administrator and also select run as administrator, also disable uac.
-
I had that issue earlier, all I did was reinstall and then restart and it fixed itself. Not sure how it fixed it self though =/ I'm using the newest bioshock drivers though with my 8600M GT.
EDIT: With Windows Vista Ultimate x64 -
I installed the new drivers for vista x64bit with a 8600m gt card: everything worked fine. I installed the demo: everything worked fine. I ran the demo in every possible configuration (normal, admin privaleges, compatability) and everytime I run it it shows the Bioshock loading banner thing (before the game becomes fullscreen). Once it becomes fullscreen it just stays at blackness(the display is still on though). If I cntrlaltdel it goes to task manager and an error box shows up saying Bioshock had some kind of error and had to close. Thats about it, I've reinstalled, uninstalled, updated, whatever. Nothing seems to help.
If anyone has any advice, much apreciated!
Thanks,
Michael -

This is for the people who play and got bioshock and are having problems with it or want to post screen shots or whatever, just keep it related.
Mods may want to move other bioshock stuff into here so it doesn't clutter it the gaming forum -
Metamorphical Good computer user
Moved to the gaming section. Hopefully you get some more help now.

ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
I saw some 8800Ultra screenshots and those looked pretty amazing..
Mike. -
Yes, I updated both DX10 and to the latest "beta" drivers. Still couldn't get it working.
I did get it running in DX9 though, and it looks great. Getting 60FPS almost all the time. -
So how much hard disk space does Bioshock eat up????? It says 7Gb ...on the Read Me file of Bioshock????
-

Meh.....Bioshock runs fine on 1440x900 res, near/max settings on this Inspiron 1520/8600M GT....
-
If its near max on a 8600M GT, then I should have no problems running it on high.
Average 25-28ish. Dropped low to 15 sometimes...... -
Ive gotten to the second level and love it so far. Im running 1400x900 with all settings high and get smooth gameplay except for complex scenes. Lowering the res doesnt seem to increase the fps too much so Im sticking with the highest quality and it looks dam good. Gameplay is a lot of fun and there is a lot to explore and check out in the levels.
-
Just curous where do u upate to the latest dx10 beta drivers?
-
Well I am glad to hear that.....Got these requirements from the Bioshock Demo "Read Me" file......Hope that is an exaggeration....
!!!!!!!
-
@crimsonman...
even i was tinkin the same thing.. recommended from a sing 2.5 to a dual 3.0?!?!?!...lol !!!!!!!! -

Haha, halarious. After reading this, I thought "WTF is side-by-side"? Literally 5 minutes later, while installing Adobe Shockwave player, I receieved the exact same error. Running Vista x64 here, that's probably the problem.
OT: Have any of you guys seen that Mountain Dew Game Fuel commercial? Despite the fact that it looks exactly like livewire, is it just me or is there massive subliminal messages? Examine:
Scene begins with multiple scenes of people with PS controllers groaning in agony. After a few scenes, it flips to an image of a guy with a 360 controller cheering and apparently winning. Suggestive, no?
Also, I found it weird that it implied that these people were competing, although the game was noted as Halo 3. Weird.
Sorry for the OT. I just saw the commercial while typing my reply. -
Has anyone else had these huge loading times? 1-3 minutes here but I keep busy by looking at the quotes/pictures.
Haven't run into any low fps on my laptop with high settings at 1280x1024 res. Still using stock drivers from Sager.
My Opinion....creepy but o so beautiful, I love the 1960's theme and the music, the lightning really helps to make things more interesting. Even though I walk into a room, hear the splicers talking, when they jump/run out to me and some sign flicker's I get creeped out so badly even thought it's bright in my room.
about the recommended specs I think it's a type and should be, 3.0 GHz or any dual core processor. In the game manual it only says "Intel Core 2 Duo Processor"
@tangent: I'll pm you the strategy the guide states, I just got it and wow I've gone through the medical ward and I missed ever tonic in the level...o well guess I'll go on my own first then go back and get everything with the guide. -
Here are a couple of cool screens. donno why they are downsized from 1920x1200, but its probebly for the best.
-
i bought the retail version
i have a Pentium D (dual-core) 2.66GHz, 1GB ram, 512MB Nvidia 7300LE with forceware 162.18.
basically, it randomly crashes, goes back to windows and sets my colors to 8-bit and resolution to 800x600 instead of my typical 32-bit colors and 1024x768. what gives? -
Here are a couple of cool screens. donno why they are downsized from 1920x1200, but its probebly for the best. This is on my 8800GTX, Q6600 with 4GB RAM. Played 100% smooth got +30 fps even when recording (with fraps) at 1920x1200 (picked up 33.8GB of video). I'll be sure to link to my vid when done. Forgot to mention this is on XP, so no DX10
still pretty sweet

hmm do you have the drivers they recommend?

yeah, when I got the demo I got the recommended drivers, and I just (2 min ago) installed the game and again it didn't like the drivers...
Sorry man I don't know what to say. -
tangent said: ↑Its odd, on my desktop they are below 20-30 seconds, but on my laptop they are a few minds also, and i have a 7200 RPM lappy drive!Click to expand...
I was referring to those level loading phases but now that I think about it that should be natural since it's loading such a huge amount of data. -
with the recommended drivers, it crashes during LOAD.
-
You got the multilingual drivers along with the INF??
-
EDIT
everything works fine now.
using 163.44 drivers. i just deleted old drivers and bioshock and reinstalled all -
After I finally realized that my stupid customized power saving settings had my CPU capped at 50% even on external power, I got this thing running like a champ on my Inspiron 1520 (2.0ghz Pro Duo, 2gig DDR2, 8600M GT 256).
This is the first game that actually is scary. This isn't like Doom 3 *OMG I JUMP OUT AROUND A CORNER* crap, the setting and stuff is actually damn scary. Gonna be on edge for awhile... -
try running in dx9 mode (right click - > choose dx9 option) -OR- run regularly, but make it windowed.
right now, dx10+fullscreen screws the game up.
