^ weird lol how many hours did you put in do ya know? I've heard of some play lengths and this is the first short complaint I've heard. Seen people with 17 hours going into 2nd act etc..

How long did it take you to finish? If its less than 30 hours i'd be dissapointed (40+ would be acceptable).

Can anyone post their settings they're using on their Gateway FX laptop to get 30+ fps?

    Gateway FX (7811 and up):
    Core 2 Duo (2.26Ghz) to overclocked X9100 (3.4Ghz)
    9800m GTS
    4GB DDR3 Ram

Anyone know how to use nicer scabbards for your swords? i have 2 nice scabbards in my inventory, and I seemingly can't do anything with them. When I highlight them, and try to select them, I keep getting the message that I can't use that here. Anyone know what's up?

I haven't played it yet, but from what I usually see from people who say a game like this is way too short; is that they usually play a certain style. They usually just continue the story as fast as possible and try to just get to the fighting scenes. Now, I haven't played it so I couldn't say, but it is usually someone that doesn't use all of the RPG elements of the game to their fullest.

eeeeh dude it might be short but there will be DLC. that might be a reason for that DLC because the game is short. but just going through the game as fast as possible is another reason. i just dont have the time now during the last 2 weeks of lectures and then exams from 6th. i wish i could sit m butt and play it like you should play a witcher game.

hoe until the end of the June there will be some patches and new drivers for the game also bug fixes. just wait the game is hugee so be patient. take stalker as an example :D

im 15+hrs into it and just started questing in the second chapter, im not rushing it and completed all but two of the additional quests i found in the first chapter, the way it feels, its looking like a 40+ hour game if you chat with the NPC's and pick up and complete the additional quests....gamble a little and farm for weapon upgrades,

and that isn't short IMO, a very solid length, for me its game of the year so far, and one of the best rpg's ive ever played.

@ LumX, I actually used the GoG's witcher2.exe a couple days ago and it loaded the game 20x faster. Like 5 seconds rather than 45seconds. So I could mess with settings a lot easier without having to wait for the load. The FPS I didn't notice but I know it didn't hurt. So another vouch for the GoG non drm executable.

Also in terms of game length, RPG's can usually vary. I've put probably 7 hours into the game and I'm on Easy mode so I'm plowing through the fights, but I'm taking my time to talk to people, going into houses, crafting, buying/selling and spamming search. I'm at the Folstam area of Chapter 1. This will be a long game and I'm on easy haha. If I get a good experience, I don't care how long it is. 15-20 hours is fine with me!

I spent two full months finishing off all of the available endings on the 1st iteration, looking at user anecdotes here I expect to do the same for this. Those who speed-rush the game for the combat and the visuals are playing the game for the wrong reasons in my opinion.

I expect they reuse specific character models to populate town centres, it's a bit much to give each townsperson a unique face and model without crippling user HDDs.

Finished everything in around 10 hours. Yes, it's on easy mode, yes, I didn't do perfectly all the side quests but did almost all of them. Didn't play dice/arm wrestling/punch fights except for the first time because i hate mini-games.

I think the main point is with the story, it builds up with yennifer etc, but you won't even get to see a single polygon of her before the game ends. It builds up expectations but leaves you at a cliffhanger.

This is probably going to be a long game for me. I like to stop and smell the proverbial flowers, so to speak. I'm at Flotsam, and have been here for a while now. Doing all the side quests, trying to get better weapons, armor, ect. Hell, I enjoy just walking through the awesome forest, killing nekkers, drowners, and the big bugs, then selling most of the loot drops back to townsfolk.

Finally got my upgraded silver sword. Love the cool pommel on the end of it!

I'd really like to find the cave, where the guys making the drugs, is at.

One thing worth praising for witcher 2 is that even though it's short, at least it's solid gameplay. It's much better than many other RPGs nowadays that like to pad the gameplay with tons of fetch/kill-this-many-monsters quests to reuse their map/dungeon and artificially making the game long. At least witcher 2 is honest by providing some solid hours of gameplay.

    It's short?
I'm in first chapter, doing so far only side quests (didn't touch main story) i got more than 15h gameplay.

Further along than me. I'm still only 1/4 of the way through the original Witcher prologue :p

....then I realized you can't save during the original prologue, so now I have to start all over again....

    *sigh*

Even worse, combat is only smooth if I turn everything down to lowest even on the original Witcher. I shudder to think what performance on the Witcher 2 will be like. I might have to lower my res :(

Watching more gameplay this game seems quite more interactive in combat. It seems like a fun play so i may pick it up, but first is there a demo or a benchmark I can try out?

    No benchmark or demo available.

I do know someone who is playing the game with the GTS 360M, and he reports the game running well at 720p and Medium settings.

Its really that bad in terms of performance? I thought maybe it was because of the DRM thing someone noted.

Minimum card required to get the game running on medium and above is an 8800 GT (desktop), don't be surprised the 360M is struggling with the game at 1080p resolution.

I got my retail copy yesterday and I gotta say I am extremely disappointed.

    I have an Alienware M17x R2 with 740qm and 2 x 5870's in crossfire.

I have given up even trying to play the game due to unplayable low frame rates.

I have tried the GOG exe, reinstalling Microsoft C++, am using ATI hotfix 11.5, disabled crossfire, adjusted all video options including resolution and every graphics setting.

    Using fraps I get a maximum of 24 fps average all settings minimum @ 1280 x 720.

This is totally crap my computer far exceeds the recommended specifications and it cant even run at 30fps on the lowest possible settings.

F#*k CD Project I want my money back, if anyone here has managed to get an even remotely playable frame rate from this game please enlighten me exactly how you did it. I have spent about 3 hours trying to figure this out :mad2:

Anyone who is considering purchasing this game for the love of god DONT if you have a system that is below mines specifications. Perhaps nvidia cards work in this game and that is why this game is getting positive reviews, if you use ATI steer clear.

Whoa thats brutal. I'm pretty sure something is wrong because 24 fps seems deadly low. A gts 360m can play it at medium 720p at 30+ fps constantly is what people say, so yours should not be that bad.

Something is definitely wrong. Try using one card and not a crossfire setup?

Looking at the information quoted, we'll just have to start from scratch and isolate each option individually. I agree something seems wrong since others with less powerful hardware can get the game to run smoother at that resolution.

I assume CF is not supported (yet) by the game? Ultrasampling and all of the super ridiculous GPU settings are disabled? Game isn't throttling because of special modifications to core parking?

I assume this page has been read as well?

Okay, I'm a little ways into The Witcher 2 now. Still on the first act, because Terraria distracted me for quite a while.

Was having terrible problems with crashing, but I managed to work around them by disabling all of my DOF effects. It seems that the DOF effects are causing crashing problems for a lot of people, most notably in the cutscene right at the section when you arrive at the first town in the middle of the swamp.

The UI is a little bit clunky, too; picking items can be quite a hassle, since Geralt really seems to love running past items I want to pick up. I have to walk if I want to get anything with any amount of accuracy. And to pick a trap up off of the floor you first have to sit through a disarming animation, and only then can you pick it up.

Game seems a lot harder than its predecessor, too. Started out on Hard but switched down to Normal after I died. About ten times. On the 3rd fight in the game.

All in all, it seems a pretty solid game so far, though it is very much marred by the presence of game-breaking bugs, crashes and technical problems. Cutscene? Crash. Conversation? Crash. Throw a bomb? Get stuck and can't move anymore, needing to load a previous save. Trying to download some DLC? Server's being moved.

Ok you clearly have problems, cause I have a 5870 and its not even crossfire yet I get 30-40 FPS with DOF-Gameplay, AA, and SSAO off, motion blur off and Uber off, everything else enabled @1920x1080 11.5a drivers. It dips down to 25-30 when on large amounts of enemies, try tweaking your settings a bit, or maybe you should do some maintenance on your PC(defrag drives, check for malware or such).

The Devs say the Witcher 2 patch 1.1 is almost ready to be released and that they are already working on a second patch. Their target is to release it this evening but nothing is guaranteed. I also saw news of this posted on their official site but it did not list the individual changes so I posted the more detailed Steam thread link.

What version did everyone get anyway? I ordered mine from some European store for the finisher dlc, which seemed to be the only "extra" game content that you wouldn't get through a normal play through....

Any opinions on the other dlc packs?

Great looks like further performance improvement i quote "Performance improvements: approximately 5% to 30% better framerate and faster game loading for many users, depending on their individual systems and game versions. Owners of retail versions can expect the biggest improvements.". Cant wait for this patch, and kudos to CD project RED for already putting out a patch and working on a second one! The game is great so far :D

Do the 275 beta drivers give anybody a noticeable improvement in frames? The main reason I'm sticking with 270 is because my Dell 460m is having problems staying stable when OC'ed (only to 770/1375 as it is). I did try the 275 drivers and for the short time I did I personally did not notice any significant performance improvement.

Yeah same thing for me here, i have had NO improvement what so ever using the 275 driver. The only thing i get when using it is some random crashes and artifacting... But i cant speak for everyone ive heard that alot of people have gotten better performance.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, just another observation. I saw this thing about "ubersampling" too, but could never find the setting. The problem is the config tool hides/flickers this "ubersampling" underneath the "Input Settings" button when you go to Advanced Mode. The reason for this config/button weirdness is the windows dialogs aren't DPI friendly. Setting to 100% fontsize for DPI will fix this config tool. Or you can do like I did and kind of move the mouse around a bit to see if need be.

Ok I just downloaded the Catalyst 11b hotfix and am using the GOG exe and Paul dll.

    AMD Catalyst? 11.5b hotfix

This has improved my frame rate quite a bit and both of my 5870s are showing 76% usage. Interestingly my CPU is showing under 20% utilization.

I am now getting 15 - 40 fps on medium @ 1920 x 1200. With any luck the upcoming update may address these issues further.

I still feel that my minimum frame rate is too low though as my minimum is about 15 fps which i don't really find playable.

Anyone else have any luck improving performance?

Supposed to be a patch released very soon if not today. 5-30% performance increase and alot of issues fixed.

I just beat the Witcher 1 after owning the game since it was first released and just started part 2. I love this game so far. The combat is challenging so far, the graphics look great (it runs perfect on my desktop), and I really enjoy the dark setting and the way choices are set up. Like in the first game there are more than one way to beat a quest and choosing right or wrong is not easy, its more about compromise.

Quest tracking is much easier I spent hours in The Witcher 1 going to do part of a quest just to find out that I needed to find a campfire and meditate for 6 hours because they are only available at night or realizing that I needed to find the book that contained the bestiary so I could actually loot quest items. Quests now state more clearly to come at night or learn more first.

My only complaint so far as having to use the medallion to easily loot something. In the first game I ran around with alt on alot of the time and so imo hitting z is a pain. Almost everything else is much improved over the first game. The inventory system still sucks and the menus aren't the greatest but they are improvements. Applying talents is much improved also. I do miss the old 3d medallion in the hud though.

Oh yeah, I'm not even going to attempt to run this on my M11x :)

Edit: Just thought it was worth mentioning that on my desktop 6950 with 11.5 installed (no hotfix that I know of, been installed couple of weeks) my gpu ultilization hits 99%. Seems like its coded well imho especially when you consider how bad the Witcher was originally (I didn't play it for years because initially it crashed on me every time I opened the inventory).

Here is the patch notes from the witcher 2 website:

    Community - thewitcher.com

Internal tests of Patch 1.1 are well under way. Our current target is to release it this evening. Please note that although we are doing our best to have it ready by then, the time still may change in order to be completely sure that the patch will function properly. This is our primary concern since there are significant changes and upgrades that will affect many users.

    1. Simpler and more reliable game installation and activation. Details to be revealed soon.

    2. Fixed the free Troll Trouble DLC download. It is now included n the patch so there's no need to download and install it separately.

    3. Fixed an issue that prevented some users from downloading other free DLCs (the ones given out with some pre-orders, special promotions, etc). The launcher now properly refreshes the list of available DLCs and allows for installation.

    4. Performance improvements: approximately 5% to 30% better framerate and faster game loading for many users, depending on their individual systems and game versions. Owners of retail versions can expect the biggest improvements.

    5. Fixed random crashes occurring on some systems, especially after saving and loading saves.

    6. Key mapping – allows the arrow and number keys to be used for movement.

    7. Added the option to invert the mouse.

    8. nVidia surround vision now works properly.

    9. More accurate assessment provided by the "auto-detect settings" option will help improve game performance.

    10. Removed a bug that prevented completion of the “Blood Curse” quest.

    11. Fixed a bug that prevented the additional link in "Extras" from being unlocked after winning the dice game against the GOG.com monk.

    12. GOG.com credits now work properly.

The full list of all changes will be available upon the release of the patch. If you have experienced any issues that are not on the list above, please don't worry. We have already started working on the next patch, which will address other difficulties and bugs, including those related to specific hardware setups; e.g.. Logitech g35. You may expect this second patch to be ready next week.

Patch 1.1 will be available for all the versions of the game, both retail and digital, except for Russian. However, we would like to assure our Russian fans that we are aware of the problems with the your version of the game (thanks for your reports!) and we are talking with 1C about possible solutions.

I thought this forum will be about the game itself. I'm at chapter 2 now and there's so much going on. By the way I'm playing with my ASUS G73SW-XT1. I've levelled 3 times already at the start of chapter 2 without alloting my ability/ies points yet 'cause I want to use them wisely for the next battles ahead.

Anyways I'm having fun with witcher 2 playing in a laptop, for I always play with a desktop. Boss fights are tough at first (kayran & letho) ..'till you get the right tactic (skill, potions etc..then it will be fun doing it again). My G73SW-XT1 has the usual 1.5Gb GTX 460M and it performed exceptionally well for Witcher 2 on medium setting with disabled things at 1920x1080 native resolution. I'm using 270.61 whql driver.. It was playing Fallout New Vegas at Ultra high setting flawlessly. Very happy with this laptop which I just bought about a month ago at tiger direct in toronto.

    Hope you're all enjoying too..

I'm a little disappointed, I don't want to give anything away for those still playing through for the first time but this game doesn't have anything on the original. left a lot to be desired imho especially story wise

the game will work fine i believe in a month. just wait my friends. its a big game and sometimes the only way to really test something is to do it after release. you can never know what kind of systems are out there even that the developers test it a lot.

It runs fine it looks very nice so sexy for eyes and yes it has some good scenes :p

just wait a bit more until the game and drivers get more mature. play dirt 3 since it runs soo good.

have a nice time playing DA Witcher ioww.
