^Lum-X I agree, I do believe the game will run even better within a month. A patch is already out and another large one is being worked on, not to mention new drivers for both AMD and nVidia should help. If I'm happy with performance now, it'll be even sweeter in the next month or so I bet.

i just installed the patch. i have lectures now but i played like 10 mins. i cant judge now but i will do some testings tonight. it seems to play better i got 30+ frames in the caves. out it seems the same. i have to see tonight and install rivatuner. what i noticed is a bit less vRam used.
i cant wait until the exams are over and thats the 26th of June. so hope for better drivers.
Im happy with my laptop i dont need anything more. well to say hey i have 480 SLI to a friend it would be nice thought

Great thanks
EDIT: ok i get a critical error trying to install the patch it says "Installed game version is invalid or incomplete", any help?
EDIT EDIT: ok the problem was that i had replaced the exe and paull.dll with the GoG version so the patcher wouldent work, so if it doesent work for you, just switch back to the original exe and paull.dll : ) -
which version of the game do you have?
-
i had no other way to download it faster because the servers ware down. i found it and downloaded via torrent just the patch.
EDIT; post the any difference after patching -

For Steam installs, we still have to wait until it is distributed via Steam, right? -

I have the D2D version, and just a little note the only performance increase that i could actually note was 1-2 fps if even that... i havent noticed anything significant. -
yes the same here, the performance increase is very big inside for me jumped from 25ish to 30ish. outside 1-3fps i would say and it feels a bit smoother. nice to have some small fixes this fast. lets wait for drivers and the big patches that are on the way to us. until them i will play more dirt 3. i want to play witcher 2 at the best possible way
i can also notice there is a small improvement in memory. i was reading that the game has s lot of memory leaks and it looks that th fixed some of them.
-
the main improvement I noticed was the long load time with the splash screen is gone. GoG' exe made it load in 4-5 seconds rather than like 30seconds.
-
The Happy Swede Notebook Evangelist
I did actually get a bit better inside, but still i thought that the increase would be larger... and its really bugging me that im not able to play this game as smooth as i want to right off the release :O but yeah it does seem to run smoother, and even though its only about 20-24 fps i get it runs smoother than i would have expected from 20-24 FPS, not smooth enough but smoother... i guess ill just play some more LA Noire and wait for the next patch. -
Patch v1.1 is live: Home - thewitcher.com
enjoy! -
I have the US retail disc version, I downloaded North America - Atari and affiliates and it states "Installed game version is invalid or incomplete" when I try to patch... Do you guys know what to do?
-
Check that you are not using the Gog files copied over your retail ones.
-
how do u do that?
-
If you didn't try to tweak bad performance by searching for and using the Gog.exe files then you probably have some other issue that is causing that error.
-
Hooray the update fixed my issues!!
Combined with the 11.b catalyst hotfix I'm getting crossfire scaling and over 30fps constantly everything on ultra with motion blur and ubersampling off. Before it was under 20fps. I am satisfied with this level of performance for my hardware.
CD Project you are a credit to all game developers, there are a lot of companies that could learn form your dedication to your customers.
Reminds me of when black ops came out and my buddy spent 2k upgrading his desktop hoping to improve performance. Turned out it was just a buggy game that Treyarch took forever to patch. -
If you have the disk the easiest way is to re install the game. I'm pretty sure you can choose to keep your savegames so you don't have to start from the beginning.
Good luck, the patch really is a big improvement on the original. -
okay, i will try reinstalling the game. thanks
-
What o.0...What kinda hardware you runnin man. I can't even get close to that on my 460m
-
^ well I guess wait for nvidia's new drivers as well as the new patch for non drm etc.
-
i reinstalled it and the patch automatic install itself. Thanks
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
I'll be buying this once I finish playing through Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2...so far I'm loving the former, it's slow in the beginning but quickly gets addicting.
Hopefully by then they would have fixed the bugs/performance issues.
Mr. Mysterious -
I was wondering if I could hear from some people that are playing this on the 460m. What FPS are you getting on ultra? Is it playable? If it isn't, are one of those external GPUs a good option??
Thanks,

I just wanted to let people know, Amazon.com "Download Service" has the "Direct Download" version of Witch 2 for only $39.99.
Amazon.com: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings: Video Games
I'm waiting for it to get under $30. -
the patch 1.2 and new nvidia drivers are out. i will install and download them and play a bit. i have my first exam on Monday and i cant play a lot.
OK so i played a bit. the game looks a bit smother. the frame rate is improved a bit. i saw like 3-4 fps more in some places. im at chapter 2 and out ot the city it now i have 28 fps. also the menu lag for me is gone now. still have to test more and see inside how the game is working. the patches looks promising. i thing they are focusing more on fixing the quest and other games glitches rather than performance. im satisfied with patches so far. -
What's with that stupid boxing thing? Press W, press S, bull like that..........
-
I stopped playing Witcher 2.
Not because the game is crap but because it eats up my free time.
-
Lol same here. I only play on weekends now.
-
Everyone seems to love the Witcher 2, but I'm actually getting a little bit bored of it already. I'm only in Chapter 2, but already it somehow just doesn't seem that engaging. Not really sure why, either; I bought it the minute it was out seeing as how I loved The Witcher, and TW2 seems to be in much the same vein, and yet it's just... not quite as addictive as TW was back when I was playing it.
Maybe I'm getting old. Durn these confounded youngsters and their VIDJER GAYMES. -
I have an alienware m17x r2 with 740qm processor and 5870m's in crossfire 8gb ram. I have the retail version.
Performance in the game is great was one bit where it dropped a bit but overall it runs awesome. -
Ok so i finally managed to get the game off a friend. I'm at the flashback part right now with the kings assault and im fighting the dudes on the bottom. i keep dying. They hit me like 3 times and im dead. I spend more time running around than fighting.
Also wow i had to turn down so many settings just to get the game to run at 25-28 fps on 1080p and it still looks horrible
Man i think i would need to build a desktop to support this game ugh. -
Mobile cards have no chance pulling off enough FPS at 1080p with decent settings, save for the absolute top end 485m/6970m, heck even with 485m/6970m you still gotta turn off some settings like motion blur.AA etc in order to keep the game running fluid.
If you want to have an enjoyable visual experience with TW2, desktop is the way to go. -
Man I totally agree. Five hours into the game, and I'm calling it quits.
Don't get me wrong, introduction was great with the assault on the castle, but after that the game became very boring. The story is not appealing at all, and when my most recent quest was to venture into a cave deep inside a forest to find some potion, I just can't stand it anymore. Someone please tell me that the game gets better?
I guess I had some unreal expectations for this game. Never played the original Witcher, and when I saw the title "assassin of kings" and the screenshots, I was expecting something along the line of Assassin's Creed with stealth action. Instead, Witcher 2 was a hack 'n slash with mediocre storyline. By the way, Ezio Auditore would kick Geralt's in a fight. -
^ if you are finding the prologue / ch. 1 boring it seems RPGs (or at least this one) are not right for you. There is no quest where you go into a cave to find "some potion" (unless you mean an ingredient which will help you defeat an epic boss), the side quests in the early game are actually quite engaging/unique (except for the monster contract ones).
Maybe it is also because you haven't played TW1 so you are unfamiliar with the story, I don't know.
But to answer your question, no the game does not get better as you go on. (if you haven''t fought the boss from chapter 1 though I highly suggest you load the game back up right away) -
If you keep dying you can either continue practicing more or load up some of the existing mods
-
Thanks for the heads up, I really appreciate it. I guess I'll leave Witcher 2 installed on the system and play it once in a while. I thought I was in ch. 2 but now knowing that I'm still in ch.1.. I'm running for the hills lol
-
No I mean is it supposed to be this hard? Like I'm playing on normal and there is so much running around while fighting. Im fighting 3 guys and i die ridiculously fast and on top of that it is insanely hard to do damage without getting hit. I try to stun them but the other dudes will attack me.
-
If it is so hard for you on normal then choose easy mode. Or not if you like a challenge.
By they way, i don't have Witcher 2 yet, does the retail copy auto updates to 1.2 once installed ? -
It took me a while to figure it out, slugging through that damn prologue for probably 9 hours, but you will figure it out. The game became incredibly easy once I started leveling up and gaining more options to disrupt groups of enemies. Plus once you get better equipment, most men/monsters die in only a couple of slashes. This is only normal though.
-
I would suggest using the mods below. I completed the game and then I found out about these. The game is very difficult at the beginning and like narsail said, once you get to the 2nd act, your power explodes and everything is really easy..

There's a huge patch coming out that helps address the nasty prologue. You won't be able to skip right to the dragon, and are forced to play through the preceeding parts first, to help soften up the difficulty when finally facing the dragon.
Funny; that's EXACTLY what I did first time playing. "Oh cool...a dragon! I'll start there"!
....yeah....if this damn laptop wasn't so expen$ive, I would've smashed it outta frustration!
I thought the prologue was poorly done. Rest of the game was great!!! -
If you want frustration, try battleing the Kayran. For a supposedly tough monster hunter, I feel more like a delicate white haired girl. I feel sluggish during battle and spend more time retreating than anything else. The only thing my character seems to be good at is sleeping........with women.
-
Same thing here......Been killed by it 100 times. The difficulty of the game is just unreal.
I've been PC gaming for almost 20 years now but never encountered such a discouraging game. Such a shame - the graphics are gorgeous but don't have the nerve to keep playing it. -
I succeeded after around 20 attempts on normal.Using Quen is a key tactic in my opinion, it is great for absorbing flying rocks and tentacle impact so allows you much more room for error. Where previously you would have died and be forced to start again, with Quen you would instead be able to remain alive to try another tactic.
-
I use that sign all the time, but when I have to use the entrapment sign half of the times the Witcher is standing like an idiot not doing anything.
I also hate the button pushing thing. Press like crazy the right mouse button to release yourself from something, or the boxing thing - press A, press D, etc. total bull.
Edit: Just got crushed into the wall for the 200th time. -
I play using an Xbox 360 controller, I would have died two thousand more times if I used the keyboard / mouse and I am a PC gamer. I also installed a Mod that increases health and vigor regen slightly.

How many FPS should i be getting with the specs in my sig? Im only getting 15 fps in the woods, with 1080p and low-medium settings :S
-
You should be getting about what you are. This game is tough as can be on your graphics card.
And, I agree on the difficulty, I'm not nearly as addicted to this as the first one because I keep dying every two seconds!
EDIT: And, not being able to drink potions when you're in a dangerous area? WTH is that?
