    Tell me, did you do Reason Of The State quest? I get this "Reason Of The State quest failed" message every time I try to start final Battle Preparations quest phase.

    I think if you have accepted the payment from Emhyr it acts as a big negative

    Go for expansion and then new game (plus).

    Yes, I did.

    I killed Radovid and Dijkstra, siding with Roche and Thaler. FOR TEMERIA!

    It's a known bug but it doesn't affect the end state of the game - more of a cosmetic thing. You might also want to edit your post because some of the stuff I put in spoilers are out of the spoiler tags.

    I went the same path. Shame really, because I really liked Dijkstra, despite him being kinda of a sleazebag. Still though, I think he was one of the better characters TW3 and I felt sad having to deal with him in that way. But unfortunately for him Roche is mah bro, and me and my bros are tight, so it had to go that way.

    Well I couldn't bare it, so I decided to postpone completing the game until 1,09 comes out and luckily fixes that issue.

    Geralt was lying to Emhyr. I jumped to conclusions before meeting Ciri at the inn. Ciri became a witcheress. Nice.

    TW3 is beginner friendly. Some story stuff you might not understand (not much though), but overall everything is explained quite well.
    Try this one first, and if you like the story give the other two a try.

    Yeah, had this happen to me as well. Was a bit too soon to download - looks like their servers couldn't handle the pressure.
    I restarted the download now, seen to be fine so far.

    Wow... the expansion is 10 bucks and actually is packed with content. CDPR may have done some shady things with the launch of this game but man, the content in the expansion would get spread across two expansions for 20-30 bucks a piece if it was most publishers...

    I would not recommend that. I was in the same boat like you and I jumped straight into The Witcher 3 and finished it. Feel like I'm still the Geralt from The Witcher 1 and 2.
    He had amnesia.
    Some relationship and backstory that I didn't know but still kinda go with the flow.

    If you have time, play the first two first. I'm playing the second right now and because I played the third one first, it's kinda like a spoiler. The Witcher 2 gameplay is quite similar to the Witcher 3 and actually cooler in some aspect. The Witcher 1 gameplay is pretty bad and its bad animation makes it harder to play so I recommend playing it on easy just for the story. The Witcher 1 is ~30 hours but I guess you could do less than that. The Witcher 2 is ~80 hours I guess. I have not finished it since there are 2 different paths you can choose for the last two chapters.

    The Witcher 1 I did a kinda speed run, only the main quest since I cannot take the gameplay any longer. It was very frustrating for me but it was worth. The ending is freaking awesome and got me so hyped for The Witcher 2. The Witcher 2 I have 70 hours atm and I'm on my 2nd playthrough.

    Yeah, TW1 had uhmmm... a very unorthodox gameplay lol, but I decided to stick around and got used to it quite fast and was rewarded with a very great game. Afterwards TW2 felt really weird :D. I also just recently finished TW2 and I was surprised how short it was. I even looked at some guides to see if I didn't miss anything... TW1 was definitely longer.

    This is probably why I recommend Matrix Leader to play TW3 and then the rest. These games are not meant to be sped run. If he likes TW3 and gets intrigued by The Witcher universe he can always grab the other two, but if he decides to start from TW1 he might not like the messy gameplay and either decide to bail on the entire series, or think that it was a waste of time/money and should have just played TW3.

    As for me, got to play a couple of hours of the new expansion. Surprisingly a small download (and even smaller install).
    So far so good, me likey. Polygon will be also pleased :D.
    Damn it's good to be back in TW3 universe!

    that's a good point. TW 3 is also the reason I played the previous ones but it spoils a bit the first 2 too.

    I'm still waiting for a sale on the season pass. My current NG+ is just going around and discovering those ? marks in Velen, which I didn't do in my first playthrough.

    Yeah lol, calling it shady is a bit pushing it, but you can't deny that not everything coming their way has been smooth (not talking about performance).
    That being said, after playing HoS for a few hours, it really is one of those old school expansions. Not a lot of those left these days... I also get a feeling that devs were a bit modest when they said that this expansion has 10h of gameplay. Probably for the main quest, but once again there's a ton of other things to do!
    I only did a handful of pre-orders in my life, and all of them sucked, but this one finally feels differently. Finally a pre-order that could be well worth the money! (can't fully judge until the second expansion is out)

    I guess a very mild taxman secondary quest spoiler:
    It appears that Geralt has to pay 1000NC in taxes :(

    They deserve the money, don't really care what happened with GMG. GMG never stated where they got those keys from, GOG didn't sell them to GMG. It's GMG's fault.

    That game still looked utterly fantastic. I can't count on two hands and two feet how many games make themselves look "ultra mode" in promotional material or early cinematics. That was YEARS before the final game. Software engineering and making a game playable to ship isn't easy, though most gamers will talk like it is. "Why can't they just make it look better.. this look crap.. bah bah bah I'm god they suck..." That game is a masterpiece. Period.

    Problem isn't the downgrade per se, it's CDPR's lack of transparency, heck dishonesty, regarding it. Yeah they admitted it--after release when it was already beyond obvious at that point. That's disingenuous.

    just finished TW 2 yesterday and tried to continue my journey in TW 3. Had to reinstall the debug console and photo mode for 1.10. But cannot take screen with F12 anymore, had to use print screen and paint. Anyone has this issue? Debug console and photo mode work just fine. F12 to take screenshot works fine in other Steam games too.

    okay, my TW 3 seems to be broken after 1.10. Went through much hassle to re-install Photo mode (messed up multiple times) => Steam screenshot key doesn't work (still fine in other games) => go back to good old Print Screen and Paint => now Alt Tab no long works (I play on Full Screen). Whenever I press Alt Tab, it becomes Windowed mode but still cannot be minimized; in before, worked flawless (almost), better performance with full screen (and fixed that couldn't see anything in the dark).

    Anyone's using Photo mode after 1.10? Probably need to try re-install things again.

    //Also, anyone knows where I can find more about Elder Speech? English wiki simply has too little info and words.

    How does the game run on a 980m with the latest drivers/on the latest patch? I guess, 1.08 is the latest with optimization tweaks. What is the min/avg fps on Ultra w/o Hairworks?

    according to this, it will run at slightly above 30 fps 1080p on Ultra with a 980M.

    I don't think it's that much difference on the current patch.

    Haven't played the game in a while, after having sunk more than 190 hours into it (yes, quite obviously my Game of the Year ;-)

    However, I have done a quick and, of course, totally unofficial benchmark for you (using Fraps) and picked the city of Novigrad for it. [For anyone interested in the details: Jogging from Hierarch Square via the Fish Market and Glory Lane to the Harborside Gate and back. Time of day: 6:20 a.m., so there were already quite a few NPC's in the streets. Weather conditions: Sunny.]

    GPU: 980M
    Resolution: 1080p
    Everything on Ultra with Hairworks off (Ambient Occlusion: HBAO+)
    Patch version: 1.11 (latest patch)
    Driver version: 355.82 (not the latest driver)

    Minimum FPS: 38
    Maximum FPS: 57
    Average FPS: 48

    Those are the settings with which I have played the game, with one noticeable exception: I have dialed down "Foliage Visibility Range" from Ultra to High. This will increase your Average FPS in the above benchmark to 52, but will have a more significant effect outside of the cities, especially in a place such as Crookback Bog with its dense vegetation.

    this is actually different from the link I gave above. Though I play on a 970M and get ~ benchmark as in the article. Actually, that ultra benchmark doesn't really make sense. It shows pretty low fps for the 980 on Ultra too. Assuming that ultra setting is hairwork off.

    The Ultra benchmark from your link is with Hairworks on. Therefore the comparatively low FPS score, as Hairworks ist still the setting with the biggest performance hit. In the accompanying article, they mentioned the 980 (not 980M) dropping from 55 FPS to 44 FPS with Hairworks on.

    In addition, the benchmark scene from your link featured quite dense vegetation, so the Ultra setting for "Foliage Visibility Range" will also have played a small(er) part, as mentioned in my previous posting.

    I believe that "my" benchmark scene in Novigrad reflects the overall performance of the 980M in TW 3 quite truthfully (with Hairworks turned off).

    Thank you so much! I guess, HBAO+ costs around ~10 fps too. And outside of city in general is performance lower or higher?
