I'm afraid to start it. Too much time commitment.

Haven't touched the Witcher 3, because I haven't touched the Witcher 2, because I've scarcely touched the Witcher 1.

you can try TW 3 first. It'll make you so irritated that there are so many backstory, characters that you have no clue about but Geralt greets them like they're his old pals. But you're role-playing as Geralt, how come he knows something/someone that you don't? Geralt you cheeky @#$%&. Turn that anger into strength/motivation and go play TW 1. Or at least that how I feel after I played TW 3 first. If you're even more irritated than I was, read the book as well, which I didn't but imo, the game didn't really do a good job introducing new main character in TW 3. Though reading the wiki would suffice, if you're content with that.hmscott likes this. -
I did start and drop this one already.
I just saw it for the time suck it is and had to prevent myself from going down that rabbit hole.
I got a ways into Witcher 2, never cared for Witcher 1. Combat system drove me nuts in Witcher 2 though which I think it what drove me to quit. -

Dam it. Now I am curious too. Is it the one you get from a "book"? -

Nope.

Sigh. Looks like I got my work cut out for tonight. -
i just bought the witcher 1 and 2 on steam for like 1.50 a piece each. i'll play them eventually on my 4k tv.
ill wait for witcher 3 to get super cheap, and when i get a better set up. 880m barely cuts it -

Alittle late to the party but I'll be beginning the game today at some point, enjoyed the first, loved the second and can't wait for the third.

oommmmg <3 Gwent. I can't wait for B&W to come out because there's a good chance they'll rerelease the Northern Kingdoms and Nilfgaard decks. -
Kaze No Tamashii Notebook Evangelist
ah Gwent, my worst nightmare. Fighting a wolf pack is much easier. Btw, just won my first Gwent game ever (from a dirty looking merchant that's it) and got a card. So every time I win, I will get a card or is it I can only get new card from an opponent once, means I won't get new card if I win him/her again?

Well I've spent my first day playing and am having a blast, so much to do, combat is so much smoother, really very impressed so far.
One small issue for me, I lose sound often, like when I load a saved game that little narrative part is fine but when I get in game all sound is gone, not sure what to do about it, but it happens more often than not.
-
Kaze No Tamashii Notebook Evangelist
I only had lost my music sometimes and it's a bug with fast travel. Not sure about all sound. Maybe should try verifying cache (if you're on Steam). If that doesn't fix it then get support from CDRP. They actually response pretty quick. -
ok it seems to be happening to a lot of people, haven't found a fix as of yet, will keep searching and if no luck will then contact CDRP directly.TomJGX likes this.

Regarding loss of in-game sound:
ok so it seems to be happening if you are trying to use surround sound, either 5.1 or 7.1, ive switched to plain old 2.0 stereo earbuds and sound is working flawlessly now, happy camper again, not only a great game but in-game sound as well, lucky me.
maybe put in around 10 hours so far, and the things to do, my goodness, i haven't really looked at the main story to much, so many fun side quests, if they keep this up throughout the game it must be huge to complete everything or near everything, woot two months vacation officially starts Jan. 2nd

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
It also hit me like that at first - zOMG, so much to do! Just don't lose your head and everything is gonna be alright.
Good timing with that vacation tho, you gonna need it. I already have 300+ hours, and that's just one walkthrough. Once the new expansion comes out I'm looking forward to doubling that number. -

anyone manages to get full Legendary Wolven set? I have everything EXCEPT the enhanced Legendary wolven gauntlets and it's Scavenger hunt part 2 as after I checked my journal. But I can't find the map to trigger the quest anywhere. Try every single blacksmith and armorer in Velen and Skellige, some shopkeepers too (played a few Gwent game when I was at it). Wanna look good before I meet Shani

Legendary Wolven set? -
Kaze No Tamashii Notebook Evangelist
yeah but only the enhanced legendary wolven gauntlets. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Do you mean Mastercrafted Wolven set? -
Kaze No Tamashii Notebook Evangelist
no, the legendary one (wolf, griffin, bear) is the witcher set of NG+. So instead of Enhanced wolven armor for example, it's Enhanced legendary wolven armor. The quests for diagram is different too (or at least the ones for Legendary wolven set) because the people who sell the maps to trigger the quest now do not sell them in NG+. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Oh, I see. -
PrimeTimeAction Notebook Evangelist
I have completed all legendary sets. If i remeber correctly, i couldnt find map for one item. I just went to the item location and got it. I dont remeber if it was wolven guanlet or not.

it could be the wolven gauntlets because when I started NG+, whenever I went to a armorer/blacksmith, I buy every map for the scavenger hunt quests. Just discovered some shopkeeper has them too, this won't end well.
EDIT: do you remember where you get the location from? I tried searching for some guide but no success so far.
//also, just try out Heart of Stone. Now that's what I call Death March. I don't know if it's just me or ever since I started NG+, the game feels easier than when I played on Sword and Story/Blood and Broken Bones.Last edited: Dec 24, 2015 -

just finished the main quest of HoS. That was fun. But is it just in HoS or Geralt's hands were always so abnormally big? Like those of the halflings.
The bosses were pretty hard and tricky I would say. Damn shame the last one (Iris' greatest fear) wasn't much so. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Could be just you. At least I didn't pay any attention, because I simply had no chance - was busy all the time by being amazed how great HOS was.
Still hard? To my knowledge CDPR nerfed bosses in 1,11 patch.
I played the pre-nerfed version, and boss battles were definitely challenging, more so than in OG TW3. That "fear" boss tho, it was driving me mad. After few tries I got tired and switched the difficulty from DM to normal. Quickly beat it and carried on with the story. -
Kaze No Tamashii Notebook Evangelist
At Shani's friend's wedding, when he dances, his hand looks pretty big.
Not the level of first-fight-with-Letho-with-pure-sword-build hard but definitely harder than the final boss of the base game. I was overwhelmed by the Frog prince. The wraith of Iris was hard and tricky. Used 4 my Swallow potions and she was still nearly full health, Yrden didn't seem to work, she was fast, always attacked right after I broke her heal from the pictures. Decided to use strong attack instead and it became easy but that was tricky. Iris' greatest fear didn't attack at the same time so I just picked them one by one. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Probably just a weird camera angle.
But man oh man, that was one awesomely made cutscene!
Eredin was easy. I honestly didn't expect him to be that way, considering that I found his No. 2 to be a harder fight than boss man himself. Heck Imlerith, in my opinion, was the hardest of the Wild Hunt posse. After few unsuccessful attempts I also dropped difficulty to beat him. The only thing Eredin had was fight duration, where you know if you screw up you would have to redo everything again. It took me quite a while to beat him, and it was a pretty constant fight (and no real challenge), so to replay it again would be a real chore, in case of a screw up. The same way I felt about that shovel guy in graveyard from HOS (oh and when the entire thing turns into a painting, just wow!).
Prince Toad was a weird fight for me. I did do it in first attempt (wouldn't it to be any other way, gotta impress Shani with my 1337 witchin' skillz), but it did take me a bit to find what hit it. During whose experiments I used up all my Swallows, had to complete the rest of the fight on chicken sandwiches and low health (is it me or food after update provides less healing?).
Iris had the same boss fight concept as Shovelface, destroy the source of health regeneration and you're solid. From there it went relatively smooth.
But her fear boss was tough. First few were easy, but the last two, I had no idea how you were supposed to kill them. My swords did very little damage, whereas they hit me hard. Few hits from them and I was dead (with shield)... -
Kaze No Tamashii Notebook Evangelist
That was so fun. Especially Geralt's facial expression.
Indeed, Imlerith is harder, felt a little let down after I beat Eredin. Prince Toad has aoe attack and it's kinda dark to see so I had to roll, usually I use step dodge because of mod so my roll costs stamina. I found Iris' wraith hard because I dealt like 1k damage with fast attacks (with enhanced specter oil) and each time she regened like 4k heal so by the time I reached her healing painting, she'd healed at least twice. Had to use all of my Swallow and each even lasted 2 mins. Switched to strong attack and each attack dealt 3k so she had no chance, fortunately she was fast and always near me not like other wraith type enemies so strong attack worked perfectly. The fear boss battle was over quickly for me. They attacked me one by one down to the last one so it was easy to dodge their attacks. I dealt over 2k damage with fast attack so it was quick to beat them. -

never in the world I would've thunk the most formidable opponent, who drove me mad, could be a filthy elf living in the shanty town outside Novigrad. Reload nearly 20 times and finally beat the bugger. He was quick. His agility left me no room for counter attack; just take one hit and I could not even block or dodge. His iron fists could knock me out with just 3 hits and my punches were like scratch. Not only that, his wits are unmatched. Tricked me many times, lured me into his trap; pretended to attack, waited for me to counter then there came the real attack. I heard elves are the best archers who have ever walked this earth but I had never ever expected they could be excellent fist fighters too.

What elf is that? Can't seem to remember him. -
Ok, so put a little more time into the game over the weekend, it's amazing, the story just sucks me in, in recent years I haven't cared to much about the blot tbh, mainly just the same old I skip through, but I'm invested In the story here, maybe it's the full voice acting, but I suspect it's more than that.
I get the feeling more so over the previous Witcher games my choices are Important, I just made a dialogue choice that I suspect is going to come back to haunt me later......this kind of writing is an incredible way to get the player invested......
I'm hooked :-( -

he i̶s̶ was the champion of Novigrad. I only remember his nickname - the Tailor. And he's a d*ck - quote Geralt. Think I had to do many attempts in my first playthrough too, though not as many as this time. Plus, the control felt somewhat unresponsive. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Oh, do you mean the fist figĥs?
Yeah, those were a bit tough in Novigrad on DM (I'm guessing you play on DM as well). Geralt only scratched them while his opponents were too OP. -

I've been stuck in the beginning of chapter 3 for a while for not having enough spare time. Tried Fallout 4 in between but i can't just play it, at least right now. Too dull and simple (not counting the crafting part, which is a nightmare), W3 lifted "the bar" too high..

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
There are still good games out there tho. Pillars Of Eternity is a good example of that. In fact, I think it's a better RPG that TW3.
But of course TW3 overall is a magnificent game. -
Kaze No Tamashii Notebook Evangelist
many games on my wishlist are on Steam sale but after watching some gameplay video, I lost my interest. Get too used to smooth combat animation in TW 3, other games look too rigid. Shadown of Mordor has good combat system but after a few hours, it's just plain boring. I've only been playing Gwent after I finished HoS. Maybe just go back to Skyrim and wait for the next expansion.
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
It doesn't work like that, believe me, I've tried. Tried it, like, three times. Installed Skyrim, spent a day installing mods, played for 10 minutes, delete. *sigh* -
Kaze No Tamashii Notebook Evangelist
well, that might be the case but I don't want to finish TW 3 before the next expansion. And Skyrim's world is the closest to TW 3's in my library anyway; or just play dota 2 instead. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Have you played first Dragon Age? Not as open world as TW3, but very nice game. Probably the last good game by Bioware. I also liked Neverwinter Nights 2 back in the date.
Pillars Of Eternity is also a nice game if you aren't particularly looking for 3rd person fighting mechanics.
