well, I did watch some gameplay of Dragon Age and Pillars of Eternity but still, they didn't spark my interest. I'm more about combat system that is similar to TW3 or at least Skyrim. And also, graphics plays quite a big role. -

Well, I don't know where did you see a combat system in Skyrim
.
Though it is fixable with mods I suppose... -
C'mon, admit it, you need a game that has horseback riding in it
"Horse riding is mostly used in games to get around from one place to another quicker than you could on foot. They can also sometimes be used in combat or racing."

I am still on the fence about Pillars of Eternity. Having come back to gaming some 7 years ago (after a couple of decades absence ;-) I have naturally passed by all of the old-school isometric RPG`s. I fact, the first game I played after coming back to the hobby was the original Mass Effect. The next game after that was the Enhanced Edition of The Witcher 1. It's fair to say that the third person view of those games was contributing heavily to the immersion factor for me. That's why I am still somewhat undecided if PoE would be for me. Then again, without trying it out, I'll probably never know. ;-)
As for The Witcher 3, that was definitely my Game of the Year and I have put 2 playthroughs with over 190 hours in it. As some fatigue was finally setting in, I deliberately decided NOT to purchase Hearts of Stone just yet but instead wait until 2016 for Blood and Wine and then give TW3 another go with both add-ons included.hmscott likes this. -

I think you might be on to something.
In that case maybe Kaze should try out MGS V
I would suggest DAI, but horse riding is so ridiculous there.
Interesting list, lol. Blops 2, Last Of Us. Where the hell are the HOMM series?!?

shooting fireball is fun. Though I miss very often.
mounted combat in TW 3 is great. Just realized lately that I can hold left mouse to delay my attack and slow time even. Can use crossbow too.
horse riding, yeah, but not just any horse riding game. It must be a fantasy in a medieval Europe-like world. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
That is a neat little mechanic. Found it also by accident and like it a lot as well. Don't remember, but I think there was some other game which did the same.
If only Roach wasn't such a dumbass... I do enjoy horseback riding in TW3 a lot.
Mount And Blade? -

I thought Roach is better now? She actually walks up to me when I whistle. Before she appeared like 2 miles away.
just literally watched Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword gameplay. Looks like there are campaigns and multiplayer but don't quite see the RPG element yet. 80% sale on Steam is quite tempting though. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
That's not my issue with Roach. The way she controls isn't the problem.
I would say I have some issues with the way she "behaves" - sudden stops when riding through bridges, invisible walls, fear of water (not saying I should be able to cross oceans, but I should be able to ride though a small, waist deep rivers) and small slopes.

Hi all,
I have recently got this game and i must say i am really enjoying it. I have run into a problem though!!!
I seem to have the Chamberlain bug. The solution seems to be to verify the download. (Im am running GOG) My issue is I dont have a decent internet connection at the moment . Does anyone know if this can be done offline? (I have downloaded the game files to install before I came away) If I have to do it online does anyone know how large the download is? Or is there another way around it?
P.s. I am currently running version 1.10
Any help would be great
Cheers Jim -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
You could try downloading the 1,11 patch, see if it fixes things (2 GBs on GOG website IIRC).
Lol - The Witcher 3 mod replaces combat with Gwent matches:
http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/953/?
And people say that TW3 hasn't got any mods. I should really look into modding me some TW3.
There's also this - http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1031/?Last edited: Dec 29, 2015 -
Not possible mate. It takes about an hour to download 100mb!!!! Thats why i was hoping there would be an offline way to do it.

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
People on the Internet say that verifying cache works, but if you're not on Galaxy/Steam not sure how it supposed to be done.
Could try reinstalling it. 1,11 patch is 450 MBs, it's still the most viable option in your case. Time to look for some friends with Internet

there are some pretty good mods. NPC miss scabbards fix, HD texture, and of course, Photo mode for example. There is increasing LOD mod too but it still has some bugs. -

How do you do it? When I play, Roach just abruptly stops in from of the water.
Actually, by the way Roach sometimes behaves, I wish I could drown her (screw you, PETA!). No wonder It's not the first horse Geralt had

I just googled it. Dont remember which site was it. But i think legendary items are in same locations as normal items.
Once you master the enemy attack pattern its easy. Also after trying several builds, i have settled on swords+alchemy build. This build can be ridiculously OP (even without the bombs). There are combinations of potions and skills that will make you invincible+max stamina+max adrenaline for nearly an endless amount of time. Needless to say, i don use these combinations. But even without this, alchemy is OP.
I think its the fist of fury challenge. I too had trouble with him on my first play thorough, until i realized the spamming strong attack is they way to go for all of these fist of furry challenges. Never lost a single fight after that using strong attack even in NG+.
On side note, speaking of tough fights, i just beatin Wolfenstein NO, now that was a tough fight.Deathshead -

Yeah, I figured that few post back. Strong attack...hmmm... Will have to give it a try, again. Somehow few previous times I tried it, I didn't do well, especially in a couple of 2v1 small space fights.
Wait till you fight Imlerith - his Gwent deck is totally OP... -

I found the glove diagram.
It was in the cave in To bait a Forktail quest.
I use mod so my build is a little bit different. There are like 16 basic skills, which are activated without putting in the slot, so I have a few skills in alchemy My main skills are 9 attack skills and 3 sign skills though. Might look a bit into alchemy. Have so many skill points in NG+.
I couldn't even strong attack that elf. He could block way too quick. If I dodged his strong attack, I would be too far to reach him (even with strong attack) and by the time I'd closed the gap, he'd already blocked so I could only use counter attack but I could not counter every time, or I must stand at a certain distance that far enough for his attack to reach me but not as far as when using dodge so I can close the gap quickly after his attack. I could also time his strong attack carefully to fast attack and that would cancel his attack. But all those methods were just too hard for me to execute.
He even tricked me. I thought he was spamming strong attack so I was pressing block to counter but he suddenly stopped then used fast attack (which didn't reach me) then after I released block, he strong attacked. I was like "Woah."
The gap between him and other opponents is just too big.
btw, what is your favorite Gwent deck/cards? I like a lot of spy cards so I stick with Northern Realms deck and put tons of hero cards in it. Have beaten every Gwent player in Velen/Novigrad as well and on my way to Skellige. -

Am I the only one here who doesn't bother with Gwent? I hate card games in real life, let alone inside a game... I wish CDPR had brought back arm wrestling and dice from TW2. The TW2 dice game was actually more gambling and sort of fun. I'm playing that for now because the music is just so beautiful (cannot beat the menu music)and the art direction is even better. Just simply walking around Flotsam is so relaxing...
There are only 2 things wrong with TW3 as I see it: very low-poly meshes (garlic...) and a terrible colour palette. Too much yellow and white, it kind of kills the mediaeval atmosphere. I'm trying to install a ReShade mod but it isn't working... -
I'm not a big fan of Gwent, but then again, I can't find any cards worth a damn. Can you finish the game without ever playing Gwent?
-
I hope so .
Because I'm not a fan either. -
Kaze No Tamashii Notebook Evangelist
Yes, you don't need to play Gwent at all. Or if you've to, it doesn't matter you win or lose. Good Gwent cards are from winning NPC/quest as I remember but you can get a decent deck (Northern Realm at least) by buying cards from merchants/innkeepers. -
i don't have time for gwent tbh, far to much to do, can't be sitting around drinking ale and playing cards while there are ? all over the map needing my attention.Last edited: Dec 31, 2015

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Oh my, please no... TW2 has to be the game with the worst side activities ever. At least in TW series. Their implementation was just bad.
QTE fist fights? What were they thinking? Arm wrestling what is hard to control with a mouse? When I moved the cursor, I had a feeling that game was running at like 8,5 FPS. Good thing I had all that experience playing games at low FPS, otherwise I would never beat it.
And I'll take Gwent over dice poker any day of the week. For me it was way more engaging, emotional, and strategical. That feeling when you beat a strong opponent, and your Gwent deck is crap...Sweet, sweet victory! Now give me your hero card!
Horse races were also fun. In that regard TW3 has everything shiny in side games department.hmscott likes this. -
Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
You're entirely entitled to your opinion, I beg to differ...
But just because
you feel TW2's side activities were bad doesn't necessarily mean they were.
To each his own. I felt horse races were easy from the start: just spam sprint and block everyone with your horse, done.
I think Witcher 3's fistfighting is equally bad - you can't even dodge. Every opponent seems overpowered (and it's not just me). As I already said - I barely see the appeal in card games in real life (I took up DuelMasters when I was young and very quickly let go), and I see equally little appeal in Gwent. It's just me. I thought dice poker was simple and more luck-based.hmscott likes this. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Well of course. It was my post after all. I probably sounded a bit harsh, but it's just because I was really annoyed with TW2 side-games. I'll repeat once again, QTE fist fights. What the hell? And they weren't even good QTE sections. Push one button, then two buttons, then again one button, and so forth. There was a couple of different fights with different button combination (like 2/2 instead of 1/2) for "boss" fights, but overall it was the same old story. No challenge and variety whatsoever. And did you really like arm wrestling? You read my complaint, mouse controls were really crap, and because you couldn't swap them to KB (at least I didn't find how, maybe there's a mod, IDK) made it even worse. It's probably better with a controller, but that's hardly a proper solution.
I do agree that horse races are easy and dumb, especially when using that technique you've mentioned above. It was still fun, IMO of course.
You can. It's the same as with sword battles. You can roll, sidestep, and use RMB to block and then counter attack your opponents. And I suppose you are talking about fist fights being hard when playing on Death March. Surprise - is the hardest difficulty, it's supposed to be hard! Try it on normal and you'll see that it's very easy. I do feel that there should be a rebalance of FF on DM. I think Geralt should hit opponents, if not as equally hard (because then it would be very easy), then with something like 1/4 of the damage opponents do to Geralt.
Did you at least give it a fair chance to be liked?
Dice poker being luck based was initially my problem with it. Sometimes you have a good hand, and then opponent out of nowhere gets a ridiculous dice combination. Like re-rolls all five dice and gets a royal flush. At least in TW2 you didn't have to beat the opponent with best out of three games, there's definitely that. In TW1 that was a real chore...
You could debate that instead of luck, you need a good hand when playing TW3 or at least planning your moves very carefully when competing with stronger opponents. 'Tis true. But that is part of the process of becoming the "Gwent master." You don't actually have to play that much, like some think. Just buy all cards you come across (their price is pretty cheap), play occasional innkeeper, and complete Gwent quests. Done! Oh and of course manage your deck. Don't have 30 attack cards in Northern Realms deck. Now you have a totally OP Gwent deck!
This is why I liked it - no dumb luck involved.
Obviously my two Euro cents.hmscott likes this. -
Kaze No Tamashii Notebook Evangelist
I read in some mod that dice in TW 2 pretty much means for you to lose. The odd is hardly in your favor. Didn't verify this though. Gwent has some luck element in it too. Ex: draw good cards, what cards your opponent has. But it's something you have control of, means build a balance deck. Or not, just slam every OP card you have in one deck. Took me quite a while to understand how Gwent works but that's what I must do to procrastinate the game because I don't want to finish too quickly before the next expansion.
oh no, you won't be rolling. Unless you're fighting certain opponent. Fistfight has some flaws though. Not very responsive control, small area. I often fail to dodge because I hit some invisible wall or get stuck between object. Or sometimes your opponent can just 1 hit you and attack right after the cutscene ends (Cripple Kate, the auction house).killkenny1 likes this. -
I'm quite fond of Gwent since i like traditional card games though i'm not exactly a good player. Something just ticked me in that mini-game.
Also i've played PoE until the last chapter but at the time even the hardest difficulty was too easy. Maybe things have changed after summer and if i'll reload my save now i'll get my ass whooped
I'll need to finish either one of these excellent games but then they would be over.. I think i restarted PoE something like 15 times already since i messed with multiple mods and wasn't happy with my char and choices made during the gameplay. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Yeah, I wasn't sure if roll was available during all fights (I rarely use it), but it is there sometimes (just like signs). Sidestep (or whatchamacallit) and RMB interactions are always there.
And yes, those flaws are there (lol I remember how I tapped S button during one of those fist fight save reloads
). Though that 3v1 in the gardens during one of the quests was very nice
.
But even with those flaws it's still better than QTEs
. But that's just me, I dislike crappy QTEs.
Can't wait till I get home so I can play some PoE again! T100 I'm with right now can't handle it very well. It's all HoMM3 for now
I had the same situation of starting over with D:OS until I got tired and dropped it. One day though, I'm gonna finish it! One day... -

Gwent's a great minigame. Fist fighting was tough until I got down how to parry and after that it was a breeze. Witcher 2 minigames were terribad, I can't even begin to describe how bad dice was.
-
Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
I reassigned my controls to resemble those of TW2, so my parry control has gone... somewhere. I don't use it (it might be 'E', I need to check).
Also, I haven't tried the game on Death March yet. I found fist fights hard enough on Story and Sword (go ahead, call me noob, I'm not concerned
), I can forget Death March.
Of course. I played Gwent about five times if I remember (twice in White Orchard, twice in the inn at Novigrad and once during the wedding in Hearts of Stone), and I lost and won an equal number of times. I have no idea which deck is which, I just used the stock cards. But I don't see the appeal in maintaining a card deck, nor even in the card game at all. I'd rather play the game and enjoy the story, not play cards. It's a massive chore.
I think I launched Gwent for the heck of it with some random innkeeper just to listen to the soundtrack since it was relaxing. I just put it on speakers and played the game.
All in all, my quest log now is just either fist fights or Gwent (as well as that ridiculously expensive runewright quest - need to save up the coins), and I'm probably not going to finish any of them.
Clearly everyone loves the Witcher 3 side games and hates the TW2 side games and I'm the only one who prefers arm wrestling and simple dice, so, well. I shall keep silent. Have a nice day, one and all, and Happy New Year.

Just download the soundtrack from GOG and enjoy the song Gwent free!
Hate is such a strong word. Myself I was just annoyed by their execution in TW2. But same could be said about TW3 too, though I'm less annoyed about them.
I was, however, pleasantly rewarded, regarding arm wrestling quest. Chapter III, nice, well not twist, but very interesting opponent.

I mean, I'm not surprised SRSR333 is broke in TW3 (apparently there's a rumor going around that he's a n00b
), but how are you broke?
I finished main game with 80k, didn't know what to do with it. Even bought most of rune schematics.
I have those enchantments, just for the giggles. Unfortunately I can't say if they are any good or not - I enchanted my swords after I finished the add-on. I didn't have the chance to test them, because there's nothing to do in end-game state...
Check out CDPR forums, people there might have some input. -

well, I'm not exactly broke but I feel like I do. I have no mean to make crown (quick - those smuggler's caches we love and hate) and get back to my past glory (felt so rich at the auction house). I just like hoarding lots of crown. It was quite a fortune. I mean, the emperor's daughter for 20k vs 30k (isn't it) for some enchantment on my swords. We all know which one is overpriced here. -
I guess I just don't really enjoy mini games with-in games I can't even remember dice, or fist fights from the first two Witcher's I guess I'm playing the game to take a break from reality, to chill out for a while, I see no need to take another break from my break from reality, that would be defeating the purpose of the game in the first place. O.0
One side game I did play a lot of was during final fantasy maybe eight with the card game within that, I think there was a reason for it though perhaps to unlock one of the weapons/ ultima or I suspect I wouldn't have bothered.
