For anyone still interested in the 1201N, I tested out the Bioshock demo last night, and it was quite pleasantly playable at the native resolution and medium settings. :)

Awesome! But until I see pricing, I won't get too excited. Still an Atom though. When will they go with an SU Core 2 Duo?

A netbook site reports that the GPU is a GeForce G218 part with 512MB memory. The Netbook is 1" thick, 1kg and offered only in Blue, Silver and Red. The red looks cool. ;)

Will somebody look at the italian video @038 and tell me if this is a dual atom?

In the 1970s I played a game on Temple University's computer, which I had access to in my genetics class. The Computer took up the whole lower part of the building and fed into a dozen or so teletypes situated in the computer lab. The game was an early version of Hammuarbi (you are the king and each year you get to allocate your grain to growth, etc., until your people revolt and take your head off). Yes, that's what I did with my computer allocation instead of graphing my fly breeding results.

By the mid 1980s it was "starclash" on my Government Xerox PC's hooked up to an early version of the internet. BTW, I actually conquered the universe beating my rival named Closer after a six month long game where we eliminated all of the other players and went head to head for 2 or 3 weeks.

My first laptop, the Zenith Z151 had dual disk drives and was capable of playing the original version of donky kong.

On and on until today. I have no doubt that gaming netbooks will be routine realtively soon.

Yeah G218 is the GPU for the G310 card.

This may be ION 2 in the Zotac nettop.

Let's not open this can of worms again. You don't have to do it if you don't want to. Me, I'll keep playing MW2 on my 1201N.
The ION 2 will be better than the current ION, but the Atom N450 is still going to be less powerful than the 1201N's dual-core Atom 330.

maybe if multi tasking, but my understanding is it will be better than a single core current atom, so in theory potentially better than the 330 if your not multi tasking.....? just a thought.

N450 is 1.66GHz, same speed as the N280.
N470 is 1.86GHz, same speed as the Z540.

So all in all the only stand out about the new Atom's is the built in graphics (and soon DDR3 ram support with the N455 and N475), otherwise they are about the same speeds as previous Atom's. There was a test on some site that showed why Pinetrail was no major change.

    I'm wondering if this'll run SC2.
    Requirements for the SC2 beta:
    PC Minimum Requirements:
    • Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1/Windows 7
    • 2.2 Ghz Pentium IV or equivalent AMD Athlon processor
    • 1GB system RAM/1.5 GB for Vista and Windows 7
    • 128 MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card
    • 1024x768 minimum display resolution
    • 4 GB free hard space (Beta)
    • Broadband connection

Netbookcheck places the 1201N just above the specs, but it's hard to find a decent comparison. Anyone know if it'll run?

I'm guessing the best would be the Ferrari from Acer with that ATi port. They showed you can play the latest game in eyefinity with 3 monitors, 4 total with the netbook.

Hmm, I kinda like that Acer! I've been enjoying my Aspire One lately, and this looks like a great upgrade!

Will see how the m11x works out, I'm worried it'll be a bit big still once I actually get it (assuming Dell ever decides to build and ship it ;-)

My Acer Aspire One currently is small enough I take it everywhere with my stack of papers, pads, etc, and is a great fit... and this looks that same size.

If you could push netbook to 13 inches then the LG P310 is awesome it wasnt well known and its been discontinued 13 inches a core 2 duo and a 9600m gt beats the pants of an m11x processor wise unsure about the GT335m if you can find one id snap it up :p

532G is a 10.1"? What's the screen resolution? 1366x768 or 1280x720 or is it still 1024x600? That 1024x600 resolution is too restrictive for gaming IMHO.

I tried to get ahold of one of those over a year ago here in the States, but it was near impossible. Now people are starting to sell theirs in favor of something else. But I'm sure the GT335M will beat the pants off the 9600m.

Initial benching of ION 2 is showing it's a drop in performance compared to original ION....but with the caveat that those bad results can be because of driver issues or skewed test settings.

    http://translate.google.com/transla...on2-zusatzgrafik-enttauscht-noch/&sl=de&tl=en

Even after everything is tweaked though ION 2 may not be much faster than the original since it's still a 16 core GPU like the original.

Meanwhile, in the other corner, AMD partners are just about to start selling the HD4290 IGP in the desktop market which is rumored to be based off the HD4350 GPU and will have double the stream processors of HD4200. If that IGP gets paired with a 45nm Neo AMD could easily win the sub-12" ultra-thin market.

It's just difficult for me to buy a mobile that says "ATI" on it. I know things are different now, but I just have bad memories of horrid driver support, and way too high energy usage.

Maybe, the first EEE's with 7" screens had Celerons and I seem think there was a smartbook that looked like the Sony Vaio P, had an 8" screen, and ran an Arm processor.

Fujitsu P1620 was an 8.9" convertible tablet with a C2D U7600...but it ain't no way cheap.

Otherwise it's only VIAs, ARMs, and a couple of AMD Geodes that all make the Atom look competitive.

    Score of 3,500 on 3DMark03? That's pitiful.

I suppose if you want to play Starcraft I sounds good to me.

I suppose if you really want a NetBook best option is still the AW?

I'm playing just about every game at native res (1366x768) on high or medium settings on battery.... in a package that's not much bigger than my previous netbook...

That to me is an awesome option.

It's an early pre-production mode. We don't know for sure. Nvidia says it will be faster than Ion 1.

What I am wondering about is the 16 Core version... Will it only be for big notebooks and nettops?

It seems like the 10'' netbooks will have the 8 Core version, which will probably significantly kill the performance in games...

    Pretty craptacular.

An 8 core version isn't even worth looking at compared to the Broadcom HD chip and if the 16 core version is the one that's eventually going to make it to CULVs then a 45nm Neo with HD4200 or an Arrandale based ULV will stomp ION 2 into the mud.

BTW, the HD4290 IGP in the new 890GX chipset is identical to the 790GX except for UVD2.0 and DX10.1 support. It still has same 40 shaders.

Is there any benchmarks on the HD4290 yet?
