what amd culvs have a 4200 let alone a 4290?
-
-
None yet, however, the 45nm Neo die shrink this year will get paired with a DX10.1 capable IGP....so either the HD4200 or HD4290.
-
USmart's got the form-factor for a mini-gaming notebook, now they just need the hardware to shrink enough to fit inside.

Though that directional pad needs to be moved to the left side like a traditional game controller.

I think the newer Asus netbooks are pretty good for gaming from what I have heard...I can't remember the model number though....

Time to necro this thread.
NEW! The 2010 AMD Ultrathin Platform
AMD has announced it's new Neo with HD4225 IGP for ultra-thins and a few companies are showing UMPCs using them.
Fudzilla - MSI's Wind U250 breaks cover
Fudzilla - Acer shows its new Aspire notebooks
Probably the only one that officially fits into the "netbook" category would be the Acer Aspire One 521 with the single core AMD V105 and HD4225....which I think puts it on pace with the ION platform. -

It would be awesome if AMD got off it's collective and made DDR3 standard in netbooks. These thin and lights that are AMD based are pretty good for the price and beat the hell out of any Atom powered netbook except of course, in battery life. IIRC DDR3 is more power efficient and the increased bandwidth also will benefit the graphics processor in a shared memory system. It is nice to see the Turion II being made for small notebooks now in it's Neo form.
Well AMD has mobile DDR3 on the way via M880G chipset.......don't know about thin and lights though. -
These Neo do support DDR3....and by the looks of the AMD.com link I posted above will use the M880G chipset.
I don't know what the difference is between the HD4225 IGP and the HD4250 IGP though. -
What about the upcoming Eee 1218 with (possible) GeForce 210m and the new Atom with integrated GPU with possible nVidia Optimus?
-
ASUS Eee PC 1218 to pack NVIDIA Ion, others due May 13 | Electronista
Asus officially shows its Eee PC 1201PN
ION 2 is an underclocked version of the same 16 core G218 GPU that the G210M uses....which really isn't much more than a 40nm version of 9400M/ION 1.0.
I'd take the HD4225...especially since I can get it with a Neo/CULV level CPU instead of an Atom level CPU, for less cost. -
Good point. It seems AMD is heading down the right path. For some reason Intel likes to shove those Atoms down people's throats.
That Aspire 1551 looks great. 1.5GHz Dual Core, 4GB RAM, 1080p HD output. Hopefully it's less than $500. -
Besides the MSI, and Acer there's also the HP dm1 getting the new Neo. If they bring it to the U.S. this go around instead of the ION HP Mini 311 then I'd recommend that one for the better warranty you get from HP.
I expect Lenovo and Tosh will update their Neo models before the end of the year too. -

Slick looking chassis on that ASUS but Ion with a dual core Atom just doesn't do it for me.

The EE-E 1015N uses the new 1.5GHz N550 dual core w/ hyperthreading. Maybe next gen Atom (Cedar Trail in 2011) will have Turbo Boost?
-
hehe try alienware
i know it is very expensive but its special made for gaming -
Even with the overclock I can get better CPU performance and comparable graphics performance out of a Neo II machine at a similar cost.
Maybe by next year ASUS will refresh this with an AMD Ontario APU.

There's no action to really test FPS though...as well as no mention of resolution and game settings.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
They said that they did the demo previously on their 'highest end discrete GPU' (which I assume would mean the 5870). He then says 'that same level of capability' which by my understanding means that the demo they show is the same settings. It looks around 15fps to me. Still, that's quite impressive.

Anyone had any new info on when the Acer 532g is actually going to come out? I'm in the market for a 10.1" netbook right now (not 11" or 12", 10" or less only) and I'd like to get the new Optimus tech in it. Best of both worlds -- some half decent graphics and battery life when you aren't using them.
As far as I know there isn't another 10" with Optimus and Ion slotted to be released in the near future, so the 532g is the only option... if only it will ever come out. It was supposed to be out already, but it got pushed back to about... oh, NOW, only it's still not coming out.
So any info on when the next supposed release date is *or* another netbook fitting those specs?
Cheers all, and nice thread! Enjoyed reading through some of it. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Plenty of websites have pics of it a Computex, so I'd say it should be out in a few weeks. This Russian site reviewed it. But why not get the Asus EEE 1015N? It features the new N550 dual core along with Optimus. -
Well, there have been pictures since February so I wasn't counting on that being a good indicator of it coming out, but I take your point.
I was leaning towards the Acer over the Asus because it was my impression that the Acer was coming out a month or so sooner than any other options, but at this point who knows.
In hindsight the one you mention looks just as good (same specs yeah?) as the Acer, so that's an excellent option -- Thank you for letting me know about it! I do know that I like the keyboard and style of the Acers, but if the specs are the same it will probably come down to price and release date for me as I'm a bit rushed.
Cheers

That's a shame. A lot of people were looking forward to this.
A 10'' but with Ion 2! Usually Ion 1 machines where 12''!

M11x is not a netbook.
In other news...

IMO, none
i don't wanna sound repetitive but netbooks
P still) can't play games nicely, unless you don't give a damn about resolution and graphical detail

10" Lenovo S10 (with expresscard slot) + DIY ViDock HD5750 would get you gaming OK. Could use other netbooks with an accessible mPCIe slot to do this as well. Can game using *only* the internal LCD for Windowed games too. -
And some of us don't. Not all games are about eye candy, unfortunately all the console ports have led us to that. Most games now are all about graphics and less about substance.
-
That's just ridiculously impractical.

AWESOME! Glad to see something like this taking place.
The Eee 1215 may change things a bit, Dual-Core Atom D510, Full ION 2 graphics, and two USB 3.0 ports to boot! -

Sounds great but no 3820TG is available in the US for us Americans.

If I'm not mistaken, Americans (as well as Canadians/Brits) have been ordering them from Taiwan through a vendor that sells internationally.

Really its a GREAT notebook, but is faaaaar to expensive for me

All are going to strugle in games, specially like SC2 and WOW that are cpu dependant, but out of the 3 i would probably go with the Asus 1215n.

None of them are any good for what you want to do. Wait a week or two for AMD Zacate, and MSI will have a new Wind U270 with an improved IGP. Though even that might be too slow for your needs.

I am not sure why anyone would buy a netbook now for anything unless HP's 14" G42 series weighing in at 4.9 lbs (a whole .2lbs heavier than the netbooks here) with a dual core 2.2 AthlonII 3GB of RAM, ATI 4250, and a 320GB hard disk was too heavy.
You get a real computer with a real processor and a 14" screen for roughly the same price as these higher-end netbooks.
I was actually pleasantly surprised at that little $350 wonder's gaming capability. -
14" is big. 13" is even big for a "netbook". And $350, where'd you find that? I see it's about $500 which now comes with a Pentium dual core and HD 5470.
I agree there can be some good deals to be had in 14" and 15" notebooks, but it kinda defeats the purpose IMHO. I have a 15" notebook, but want something with good battery life, ability to game on battery for a while, and small and light enough so not to worry about it encumbering me. I've run the whole gamut of gaming capable netbooks, from the Acer 1410T, to the Toshibs T115D-S1125, to M11x. While the M11x is somewhat heavy, it's size is considerably smaller than my 15" (and looking to get a 17" to replace it anyhow), and can game perfectly well. ION netbooks are also a decent deal except they all come with a stupid Atom CPU. Any Intel or AMD ULV CPU would do so much better and not consume any more power. -
Was at Best Buy for $350, they raised the price as they couldn't keep them in stock. (apparently they still sell out at the higher price)
That G42 is a 14" screen, but barely bigger than a 12" ASUS. (2" diag, and completely unnoticeable difference in weight) than the asus netbooks I saw and a much nicer screen.... The G42 my brother reports at 3+ hours even gaming. At 2" diag and.2 lbs heavier than a 12" ASUS netbook I think we can skip the "big" arguement... If you REALLY want to game for more than 3 hours, you are probably cross-eyed from looking at your tiny netbook screen...
Given how powerful phones are now, and how cheap laptops have become, netbooks are dead uness you are physically infirm enough to not be able to lift 5 lbs. (in which case you probably are too weak to game and belong in a hospital on life support)
If an extra .2 lbs "encumbers" you, please seek professional medical assistance immediately.
Even better that 14" laptop has HDMI out. Yeah that's right... it plugs right into your big screen TV/receivers... Even at $460 shipped from amazon (not sure where you got $500 or the odd config) that laptop is pretty amazing.
http://www.amazon.com/HP-G42-415DX-...e-layer/dp/tech-data/B004GSR7Q2/ref=de_a_smtd
(and costs about the same as those high-end netbooks)
Can find lower I am sure...
