Regarding the MXM Standards and all the recent influx of the radical B$ that these corporates pull out.

So MSI, Clevo, Ngreedia - the trio of the ultra fallacy and B$ against the notebook consumers who intended to upgrade. If they want cash they could have asked for the MXM kits, First they tried to cut off with the BGA infestation but Some OEMs tried to keep the socketed hardware going forward, ofc caveats with huge pricing and MSI advertising the machines being upgradeable but sooner than expected they silently put a lid by saying the drop of the PCB MXM standards dropping with the 3.0b, Removing the pages which said so, adding the half-arse and fully opaque trade programs, while Alienware watched the whole legacy burned alive with the coalition of the Intel & Ngreedia. They tried to cut further deep by disabling the LVDS support and the the OEMs followed proprietary JUNK HW with astronomicaly stupid stunts, comical strategies.

It's like we are already fed up with this infinite greed of the Micro$lop, trying to cool the hell that the Win10 unleashed on the PC...then Bam !! they try to hurt more with the HW, really desperate to keep the consumers chained and eliminate the liberty part by part with the veil of discord by showing only one path.

I don't want to imagine the future really with the Deeplearning, Machine learning and AI being part of the Software that we use it daily while could be used for the better purpose but nope. Fully limiting and crippling the Human Intellect.

The true side of the corporates as usual and Hypocrisy at it's finest gents..

The proof before your eyes..a 3.0b MXM 1070N by MSI the one who makes the cards for Clevo as well & Yep NO SLI again.

I WIN! lol alienware 17 R1 with 1070 MSI version. Please don't PM spam the hell out of me yet. I need a couple days to create a DIY guide for @woodzstack . If any of you need one of these GPUs please get in touch with him. He has supported my wild goose chase and replied to every question i had in an 8 PAGE PM/private conversation I had with him to make this all happen. I have the 120HZ display but will hopefully find time to test the 60hz one for the others who will likely be asking me to.

That's awesome! Can you use Optimus in your machine if you switch out that display for lvds 60hz one? I have a Chi Mei N173HGE-L11 (lvds) sitting on my desk and i can donate that to you if you're willing to test it with your laptop and new gpu ! :)

How amusing. Proof indeed. Those mishapen cards were indeed pointless. MSI more than capable of producing it in standard MXM 3.0B form factor! LVDS could have been included too..such a farce!

Someone needs to test in M18x. R2

Dx12 is supposed to be able to use 2 gpus independently of one another. Would be interesting to stick a e9550 and 1070M inside and see what happens....

For non dx12 games you simply switch onto which ever card runs the game better and for dx12 run em together!

Technically It should fit, But as said earlier the AMD Polaris won't boot with P7xxZM, Dunno about DM, I think an sBIOS patch would be enough to drive them at full potential, because Prema.

The throttling and all was with Alienwares - M17x R4 / AW17 / AW18 / M18x R2 with Maxwell and 780M SLId with M18x R2 so far, If we can get those Zotac MSI - 1070 MXM 3.0b cards sourced we could pull the upgrade with the 3.0b legacy machines, more users could jump into rather to have a dremel work...

we need a guinea pig first... ;)

and yes, as mentioned before, the 1070 from the zotac zbox is regular mxm form factor 3.0b, so the card fits PHYSICALLY into "older" machines without any dremeling involved. thats already a big step towards upgradeability. concerning the rest, we at least have some @Prema potential to get it going :)

yeah i saw that one as well. im a bit skeptical there because the form factor of the system is way off from that of the 1060 and 1070 versions. could be because of beefier heatsinks with the MXM form factor being the same though, no idea :)

Mods mods and more mods. Some models will be doable others not so much.

Necessity is the mother of invention... bring on a closed loop internal watercooled mxm 1080 with pump, fan, and rad stuffed into what used to be an ODD bay :)

I wonder if that would need green wire mod like there is in Eurocom Tornado F5 upgrade (Which is MSI barebone). Maybe someone know what that green wire mod do?
Also is there any difference between 970m and 980m heatpipes/heatsinks?

as far as ive read, thar wire mod was just necessary on prototype cards they had for testing, before the regular production cards came out.

The M3NX980-NN also looks interesting! Desktop 980 in MXM 3.0B form factor at 130W. It is slightly longer but still better than the bloated 1070N MXM card.

It might be a good upgrade for those looking for SLI too as it features an SLI connector and support for LVDS...

The P870DM actually has two connectors on the mobo. The MXM slots are too close together on the mobo for any combo that could use both though (the slots are wider apart in the P870DM2/3 so they can fit Pascal SLI). The Clevo 980n SLI could feasibly work in the dm2/3 but given Pascal's gains no one would bother trying it unless they got a barebones and a couple of 980s dirt cheap. The only one that looks like it would fit in SLI was the MSI GT80S 137W TDP gimped 980 ... which didn't have a connector anyway increasing the whybother.

Show me a standard size 1070 (without that stupid corner tab) with SLi connector and I'm all over it like herpes on a hooker.

Unfortunately It doesn't. The SLI 1070 doesn't exist unless one makes it. Damn the Zotac Box 1070 3.0b photos are taken down...Did anyone made a backup of those by any chance ? User account is banned it says. I suspect the M$I did it on behalf of the Ngreedia scums.

It works in 751/770/775DM(if 770 or 750 you need to flash 775DM Bios) you do not need the power connector to work. ZM however was not able to work.

hey, could you explain what the "green wire mod is?" - I've been browsing through these threads for hours and I keep seeing it mentioned everywhere, but without an explanation of what it actually is.

as far as I'm aware, the 970m and 980m have very similar heatsinks

It's a wire soldered onto the 1070 MSI MXM. Odds are that it's there to bypass some firmware-level check to allow the card to be used, but nobody knows for sure except Eurocom.

It was only to trick the EC signal for the dev model eurocom used. Ones currently f/s don't have or need it. Like the guy who put one in his AW 17R1

GAIZ! check out this youtube video, unboxing of the Zotac Zbox En1070, it shows the gpu in its full mxm 3.0b standard form factor glory (around 1:15):

this should remove any last doubts about this ;)

here you have the matching preview article with another highres pic of the mxm card:

Somebody back that up! :) before it gets taken down!

Seriously though it is a full 1070N in standard MXM 3.0B form factor! Perhaps Woodz can source the manufacturer of these cards and sell them to the community!

So which machine is the new M15x is terms of upgradeability? I might make a jump to it!

Look at the videos of this card in action on YouTube. Its running around 1400mhz sometimes down into 1300mhz and it's not even close to throttling.
