HEY I FOUND notebook with ATI™ Mobility Radeon™ HD 3450
what about that?![]()
is it
1.2600
2.3450
3.3200?? thnx
-
The 3450 is weaker than the 2600.
-
ok and what graphic is good fot gta iv? 4650 defintly but it is so expensive..
-
Even that would be hard for GTA4, you need a 8800m or better and a beefy cpu to play that port.
-

"Ah, I see, thank you, and what graphics card would I want to look at to play GTA:IV, at a decent frame rate and digestible graphics. I am enticed by the 4650, but alas, its price is great." -
VGA nVidia Ge 9600M GT 512MB - better than HD 2600?
-
Yep, better. You're still not gonna get a good frame rate with GTA4 though. There's threads everywhere about the performance of that game.
What's your price ceiling and where are you looking?
You can get a 9800m for $1299 here. -
imo, if your buying a laptop solely for GTA4, then you are making a big mistake. Buy a xbox or ps3 if you want it, gta4 on PC was a flop. I can understand if you want to buy a new laptop for gaming, then you will need at least 9800 GS, like stated by JohnnyFlash. If your budget allows a laptop such as G50vt or P7807u FX then go ahead. Otherwise, if you are right on the edge of your budget, getting a 9600 gt, then i would leave it right there and invest in a console. Your current laptop with 2600 is fine for average use, so get a console and you will be happy.
-
sach7002 - yes, i understand . i'm thinking to buy a HP with core duo 2ghz 3gb ram and 9600m gt but for this price i can buy full hd 82cm tv and xbox arcade but.. i cant decide what to buy
it was just a little confusing that 2600 is better than 3200 (higher number) but now i will get at least 9600m. so thank everyone, this is what i maybe buy HP Pavilion dv5-1235 (NG305EA) have a nice day! bye
EDIT: i recommend you youtube.. nice vids playing games on 9600m gt hmm -
Here's a breakdown of number schemes for GPUs:
The first digit indicates the series. This doesn't indicate power necessarily, but which generation the GPU belnogs to(higher is better aside past Nvidia's 9xxx series)
For example:
- ATI HD3xxx series vs HD4xxx series
- Nvidia 8xxx series vs 9xxx series
The 2nd digit is the actual GPU's strength in comparison to that generation.
For example:
- ATI HD36xx is better than HD34xx
- Ndivia 86xx is better than 84xx
Finally, for ATI, the last two digits indicate the "boosts" ATI gives through overclocking to its GPUs.
Example:
- The HD3470 is an overclocked HD3450 and the HD3670 is an overclocked HD3650.
So if you're comparing the HD2600 and the HD3200, you'll see that:
- the HD2600 belongs to one generation behind the HD3200
- the HD2600 was higher class in its generation than the HD3200(which was lower class)
Overall, it's somewhat hard to compare GPUs from different generations without looking at specs, but between a same generation, it's feasible.
Between ATI and nvidia though, their 2nd digit strength number is usually indicative of which GPU one company is responding to another.
Ex: ATI's HD3 650 is the competitor to Nvidia's 8 600M GT -
And now that Nvidia's gone and relabeled the 9-series and newer GPUs, it's all a mess.
Apparently my 9800M at GTS speeds is now considered a GTS 160M...so confusing. -
Go ahead and and the FX570m GPU in your performance group.
Comparable to 8600m for gaming. -
GTA IV is very CPU intensive so you will need to go with a really good CPU preferably a Quad Core. I have seen tests showing that GTA IV makes use of every single Core during gameplay, some cores were being used 75%, 80%, 90% etc so if you play that game just with a Core 2 Duo your CPU will be maxed out.
I expect a GTX260M / GTX280M to play GTA IV very well but only if paired with a really good CPU. A lower clocked Quad should play GTA IV better than a higher clocked Core 2 Duo. For example, I would expect better performance in GTA IV from the 2.0 Ghz Q9000 Quad than I would from a 2.5 Ghz Core 2 Duo. -
I see that you guys are all about new cards but I have ne quick question. Gaming wise, which one is better:
9600m GT or 7950 GTX -
I was probably wrong the last time. Maybe the 7950 GTX might be a bit stronger. Don't know by how much exactly, but the 256 bit interface will help at higher resolutions.
The 9600m GT consumes much less power though. -
Right. How about 9700m gt vs 7950 gtx then. Still 9700m gt has a 128 bit interface. For DX9 gaming, is it safe to assume that only x8xx cards are faster than 7950 gtx?
-
how would the 9500m GE (dell studio xps 13) compare with the 9650m GT (asus n80vn-x5)?
also... would the studio xps 13 be able to run CS:S (at high settings) and WoW (medium-high settings) well? -
My 8700m GT outperformed 7950GTX at 1280x1024 or 1440x900 when overclocked. (roughly 9700 clocks)
Note the 9600 is a bit lesser and thus the 7950GTX would likely still come out on top in older games and will especially do so when above 1280x1024 or when using memory-intensive textures or AA. -
where are the hd 4570 and 4670 placed on the chart? those seem to be the most interesting as they seem to border the line of mid and performance range.
-
what about ati radeon 2400XT? i have seen notebooks with this chip .my guess is its a shade better than 2400?
-
Ya, there's not a difference worth mentioning.
-
i had my computer at the repaire shop for about a month and got it back a few days ago but i noticed they changed my graphic card-.-
i should have Nvidia Geforce 8600m GT and they gave me 8600m GS.
i checked the internet and bit and is it true that the 8600m GT is better than the 8600m GS?
dont really wanna downgrade my comp
thx. -
The GT is a good bit better than the GS, but it is highly unlikely that the switch is possible.
-
yes the gt version run at a higher speed and is much faster than the gs version. shame on them.
-
look here for GPU comparision

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
The gs models are the older models slightly upgraded.... can't believe they did that lol
8600gs is basically a 7 series gpu
If they took the graphics card out unprompted... Well thats theft, maybe they were hoping you would't notice... Anyway you shouls resolve that, thats total BS -
sue the shop for theft
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Or blackmail them into giving you their best graphics card
lol
-
do you happen to own a acer 5920g?
it could be a wrong report, download gpu-z and check it, you don't want to make false accusations. -
Don't compromise on a 8600M GS, do your best to get the 8600M GT. Otherwise you might be able to get one from Ebay around £80-£100. You can ask them for a discount or a CPU upgrade go for a T8300 or T9300 or if you are very lucky a T9500.
It will be very easy to do the graphic card upgrade yourself as long as you have the right card and the correct vBIOS. -
Yeah i got 5920g
i talked to the shop and they said it was a 512mb ran 8600m GS i think... and they would send email but nothing :< i finally got my comp and now i dont wanna sit on it lol. i checked cpu-z but couldnt find any graphic card.
they better change it, i didnt pay for a gs -.- -
sorry i meant to say gpu-z. i know that 5920g is capable of housing 3 cards(8600m gs, gt and hd3650), that's why i asked.
it seems they might have stole your gt and gave you a weaker card, but you will need to confirm that yourself.
if the worst is indeed what happened, don't let them get away with it. -
i checked it and it is indeed geforce 8600m gs.
btw is 65 c. the normal temp for this card? not playing games or anything
my graphic card has actually been broken twice in like 3 months or 4 -.- i wonder if its cus i play certain games but everyone sais my laptop should run them smoothly and my brother had this comp before me with no problems.... he even ran more demanding games.
hate..... getting there
-
65c idle is a little hot but is normal. what do you mean by 'broken'?
-
well first around october last year the computer only got this grey screen at start up and nothing more.... (broken card i bet)
and in february first the laptop screen stopped working so i used the tv, but a bit later it stopped all together.
just black screen.... -.- erm.... is it ok if the graphic card temp is on 80-90 when i play games?
haha
my comp seems to run a bit hot to when i play games, do you guys have any ideas on how i can cool it down? -
This might be an unanswerable question, and may have been asked already (I haven't checked much), but where is the Radeon HD 4860 supposed to fit in comparison to the current cards? I've read they're some kind of new step, with 40nm process technology, 1080p etc... but it's named lower than the current leader, the 4870. So does the new 4860 perform below the 4870?
-
It should be slightly faster than the 4850, very close to a DDR3 4870, and slower than a GDDR5 4870. The 40nm fab allows for a higher core clock, and it should come standard with GDDR5. With DDR3 it's called the 4830.
-
I think the high end of the 15.4" has a new leader, the Sager NP8662 with the new GeForce GTX 260M core weighing in at 7.1 lbs.
As typical with nvidia, the name has nothing to do with the desktop version. gpucafe identifies it as "In case you were mixing up things, these GTX 200M serie is based on the 55nm shrink of G92 and not on the GT200 series ASICs."
Looks like a monster! -
Trying to decide whether to get a Sony Vaio FW or an Acer 8930G. Which graphics card is best for gaming (action games like crysis) the Ati mobility HD 3650 512mb or the Nvidia 9600M GS 512mb?
The specs of each laptop are below:
Vaio FW:
- 2.66GHz intel duo processor T9550
- 4G DDR2 SDRAM 800mhz
- 320GB Hard drive 5400RPM
- 16.4" 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) display
- Ati mobility HD 3650 512mb gpu
Acer 8930G:
- 2GHz intel duo processor
- 4GB DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz
- 320GB Hard drive 5400RPM
- 18.4" 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) display
- Nvidia 9600M GS 512mb gpu
Thanks for any help

Welcome to the NBR forums.
please refer to the GPU Guide.
both those videocards are both mid-range (128-bit) and comparable to each other.... so no significant difference.
If you want to play games like Crysis, you might want to look towards a high-end (256-bit) videocard.
For under $1000, you can get a 9800M GS system (Asus G50VT).
a high-end card will easily outperform a mid-range card by at least two times. -
the 9600m gs is slightly better, but only about 10-15%. the driver support is better as well and theres more variety of drivers. so it seems that it mostly comes down to asking. do you want an 18.4" or a 16.4"?
and if you can spend a little more money:

Wait if you can - the Aspire 8935G is due to come out soon, and that comes equipped with a Mobility Radeon HD 4670 1GB.
-
Hey, I was just wondering if this was going to be updated for the new 100 m and 200 m nvidia cards? Thanks
-
which graphics card for laptop is better for pro gaming
a) 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 (this is in Dell Studio 15)
b) 512MB Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT (in Croma's Entertainment Series Laptop)
aditya, delhi, india -
Try and read the stickies before, there's a whole thread discussing stuff like "which GPU is better".
But the 9600M GT beats the HD4570 easy. -
I'm looking at two notebooks and would like to know which one has the more powerful video card, and if so by how much and what to expect from each.

King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
For starters have a look at what the website www.notebookcheck.com says about the cards to make a comparison. Although it is not always 100% accurate. These cards are so new that this is your best bet for now.
-
Here's a direct link to the mobile graphics card rankings page the previous poster was talking about. There's insufficient data for these two cards, so I would take the rankings with a grain of salt.
-
I'd say the 120m GT would be the best choice..
-
The GT120M should be similar to a 9600M GT so it'll best the HD4570.
