I like FC2, its a pretty good first-person shooter IMO. I mean i went back and played a little original Farcry and i was blown away by had awful it was, especially when those Trigens showed up,terrible call there. Im actually happy FC2 is almost nothing like the original.

Heh, crysis was a game that I uninstalled after playing it for an hour or two. The graphics were great, even on medium...but the gameplay was lacking.

Now, with FC2 (and since I've beaten it)...

    1) There's a lot of driving...for example (spoiler) the bus station on the bottom left corner of the 2nd map...why does it have to be that far away from everything? I often just cut through the brush, but it does kinda get annoying at this
    2) I felt the immersion was really good infact, even if the map auto-updated, etc. Though, the malaria aspect could have been used much better. As it stands right now, it's just thrown in there making you do a few extra quests.
    3) The AI, isn't bad. I mean, especially towards the end of the game...they
will start to chew you up if you decide to go in all Rambo. I ended up using the best sniper rifle in order to compensate for that.
    4) Some of the missions don't really make sense...I feel like Ubisoft tried to tell a story, a "Moral" story... Heh, at times the game felt like it had it's head stuck up its own *** sometimes. Especially with the ending...and how you finally begin to meet the Jackal. I felt let down at that point.
    5) Also, the buddy system is neat in how they can pull your *** out of a firefight. However, doing quests for them really didn't do anything at all...and they couldn't even travel around with you. Again, seems half developed.
    6) This game really makes your character seem anti-social. He literally kills every SINGLE character he meets in the game except for the Jackal... I guess that could be a good thing or a bad thing.
    7) I really loved the explosions..they really sounded and looked better than Crysis IMO. Exploding barrels, combined with a grenade launcher made blowing up cars, trucks, and even small buildings joyous. Though, it's too bad not everything was destructible. Like trees...

This is exactly what I'm trying to say. I never said e mike was trying to say this so you should read more carefully. This is like the recent cnet M17 review. They reviewed a $1999 budget M17 and compared it to a $6000 m17x. How many people are actually going to buy a $6000 m17x? Why compare it o a $1999 machine... Same thing goes here. How many people can even come near to those screen shots? Definitely not anyone in a notebook.

Please don't misquote me. 30fps in Crysis Very High 1440x900 0xAA is extremely playable. Crysis doesn't need a supercomputer to run at Very High and get decent frames. And it doesn't need a $6000 system to do it either.

in Screens, Farcry 2 would have looked better if it had blur , which is making most of the difference in the screens posted by Emike (Minus the yellow lighting VS white lighting), actually i'm surprised why the game doesnt have blur... it would have looked way better.

Blur? I think blur has nothing to do with it.

I finally finished this up last night. My impressions are mixed, nothing in the 2nd half really changed much for me. I guess if I had to say, it's a solid game that has some glaring problems which are not game-breaking. And that confuses me the most - they should have been able to address these issues without adding another year to development.

    Some spoilers throughout.

Front and center is the story. What happened to this? You go through the entire game and they only advanced it near the half-way point and towards the end. I suppose my complaint really is this new idea of letting you make your own story. I just don't think it works. I'd rather have a fleshed out story with twists and turns even at the expense of making me use my imagination to put myself in someone else's position.

Back on point, you just don't seem to have any connection to the character through 80% of the game. And then when they finally start to tell you something, it's even worse. Why? Well, did you know that the factions were actually fighting each other? I didn't. Did you know that the leader you kill near the end changes based on which side won? I didn't. Did you know that there was a civilian uprising? I didn't. You can't tell me one thing and show me another! I almost wished the story didn't go anywhere, so I wouldn't notice the holes when it did. The story they were telling would have worked if they used it.

Onto gameplay. As a fps, there was nothing that stood out as a negative. AI was sketchy but on a whole good. Weapon selection and wear is fine, but again the AI doesn't have jamming, so what gives? I guess my gripe here is AI respawns and secondary missions. The missions offered nothing - journalist and buddy missions were worthless. No point whatsoever. Ubisoft needed to use some sort of incentive system for these. I would suggest having the buddies attack you at the end if you didn't help them, but they ran with it anyway. Also, main missions around the half-way point were good, but then settled back into same old style. One more thing: I remember talk of using day/night to plan missions better. Maybe convoy missions could move during the day, and hold at a checkpoint at night. Have AI sleep at night, so fewer guards patrol camps. Stuff like this seems realistic and actually fun.

Fixes that would make this a great game:

-More wildlife. Both variety and size.

-Civilians. Req'd if the story depends on them.
    -In towns, at stands, etc.
    -Rioting when appropriate.
    -Faction Retooling. Big problems here.
    -Spread out respawns.
    -Assign checkpoints/strongholds to APR/UFLL/Underground.
-Get crazy and allow AI to change enemy posts.
-Remove shoot-on-sight in exchange for bartered passage.
-Faction jobs occasionally allow passage thru faction posts (maybe follow route given by employer)
-Unique AI. Add body armor, use wake/sleep cycle, etc.
    -Main Missions. Variety please.
    -Secondary missions need incentive system.

To end on a different note, the positives.
    + Settings. Graphics/sound well done.
+ Open ended. Plan approach to missions.
+ AI. Brilliant at times. Challenging but not overpowering.
+ In-game decisions. Not many, but welcome.
+ Variety of types of missions. Need better risk/reward system though.
+ Fire. Could have been beefed up more.

I got FC2 about a week ago (30%-ish finished), and I have to say I enjoy this game. Now, after playing Crysis (and Warhead) I've become spoiled to having to best graphics possible. Despite that, graphics are not the only criteria to which a game should be judged; sure comparing Crysis to FC2 graphics is a no-brainer, but FC2's gameplay out-performs Crysis in terms of expansiveness, weapons, etc.

Not to throw flamebait anyone here, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Love 'em or hate 'em, I enjoy both equally.

P.S: For some reason, I can't go back into full-screen mode with Far Cry 2, any suggestions?

This game is pathetic. I read almost all the pages about people arguing about it and its amazing how people can defend such a game at being "good".

You CANT compare it to crysis because crysis is so much better in every aspect. Sole reason i mentioned crysis is because you all seem to be bringing it up.

My list of what makes this game a joke:

    1. Obvious console port when it comes to graphics. Graphics are outdated, shaders are non existant, colors are washed out, enviorment is too boxy. Characters movements are pathetic and so it rendering, poor animation of the characters. All those things make the game look cheap from the start and outdated.

    2. This game revolves around driving, forget the main story line or healing yourself from Maleria, finding a vehicle to get anywhere is the top priority.

    3. Pulling the map at all times gets old.

    4. You want to talk about realism which many of you seem to support in this game...since when does EVERY car and boat in this game come with a GPS? Africa is the last place to have any of those things.

    5. Same missions over and over, drive here, kill this guy, drive here kill that guy, get some diamonds, kill that guy, drive here burn this guy, burn that building, meet with your buddy.

    6. Which brings me to my next point, BORING!!!! i really tried giving this game my time and wanted to like it, i played for about 3-4 days after realizing nothing is changing. Its the same thing over and over and over again, sandbox sure, but they took it too far to make it so repetetive its to the point where why am i doing the same thing over and over again line.

    7. Realistic graphics compared to Crysis? you must be out of your **** mind. Crysis was more cartooney but it had so much more realism and detail than FC2 cant come close to

    8. This game is probably the ONLY game in my years that failed to capture my attention, hell even SPORE did something for me which i also stopped playing because its nothing like it was advertised to be but it was still kind of fun.

So a word to all those of you sticking in your sad little pack, get over this game, you are just pissed and sad you wasted 50$ on a game that wasnt even worth 30$. And if you begin to compare it to other games at least pick a game that it can be compared to which you will have to go back about 3 years.

Fact is, if you loved this game so much that just tells me you havent played any of the other games that are actually good. STALKER, DEAD Space, Fallout, Crysis/Warhead, i can go on and on but i mentioned the newer games since its whats out now.

I just cant get over how you are all defending a game that was obviously a failure in so many ways. Apart from approaching missions how you want this game has 0 new ideas.
