It seems You and Me are in the same Boat to F????D ville..interesting I thought it was just Acer manufacturer that built the boat..![]()
-
That said, just go ahead and install the drivers from the AMD website. They recommend that you try the manufacturer's drivers first, but unless you have switchable graphics, there's nothing wrong in installing the generic drivers. -
I do not have switchable graphics. I download the driver from AMD and it SIMPLY does NOT WORK with my Acer laptop! ACER does not have the new driver version (10.8 or whatever) so I basically took $800.00 and burned it away because I only bought a new machine to play Final Fantasy XIV. There needs to be some type of MAJOR warning put out to people looking forward to playing FINAL FANTASY XIV and even go so far as to buying new pcs to play it because their minimum specs have NOTHING to do regarding the REQUIRED version of their vga driver to play, which not just NEW ACER manufactured products but others as well simply DO NOT COME WITH!!!
9/23/2010 I brought my laptop to geek squad at local best buy. The supervisor was able to install the driver and get the game to work..Seeker, you are correct however about the driver numbers not being the same. It is the newest version but yes does read 8.762. -
u need modded inf drivers as acer opted out of ATI driver releases...
-
wait wait wait, you seem to have forgotten to mention that higher driver version does not mean better performance!
The newer drivers are usually targeted to fix bugs for new model of graphic cards. So if you are using a old card like me, you may not want to constantly update your driver.
Find one that suits you and sticks to it. -
Btw, my laptop is Acer too. -

hi can i ask... im trying to customize a laptop that has an i7 processor for it... and its quad core... im left with the option for the video card to take 1G ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 graphics [HDMI, VGA] for quad cores... is this video card dedicated or integrated? whats the difference of 1G ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 graphics [HDMI, VGA] to a ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics [HDMI, VGA]. Is the latter the dedicated video card?
thanks so much for your help... -

I need a bit of help...
I'm using an Acer Aspire 8935G laptop with switchable graphics, and I happened to already uninstall my ATI graphics drivers before updating. And now I noticed that I cannot update the ATI drivers or even restore the default laptop drivers, as both result in an unknown error and fail to install.
Then I came to this site and found out that I need to install them over the factory drivers, which I would've never thought of myself (see, I used to have a desktop, where I would always delete the previous drivers before installing new ones).
How do I proceed now? The laptop only boots with the integrated intel graphics chip active, and I cannot restore the old drivers. Do I have to reformat the whole thing again (yeah, I had the misfortune of running a driver cleaner as well last time), or can I do a windows repair which would take care of it, or what do you suggest? Would the drivers be installable in safe mode? I really wouldn't like to reformat everything again so soon.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. -
Well, I ended up reformatting the whole thing as I found no other option to restore the drivers.
However, as I tried to update the drivers afterwards, this time installing them over the factory ones, it installed them fine, but device manager is still showing the old date of the drivers and I'm unsure if they got properly installed at all.
Can anyone verify if these are the latest drivers?
Direct3D: 8.14.10.0685
OpenGL: 6.14.10.8870 -
Can the drivers not be updated on this laptop at all?
-
I have a Y560 with the 5730, non switchable graphics, and am currently running on stock drivers. Does anyone know if I can use mobility modder with the 10.12 desktop drivers?
-
-
-
Weird...the drivers seem to have updated afterall even though device manager and the ati CCC still list old version numbers. I can now launch Amnesia: The Dark Descent, even though it refused to run at all before (due to outdated drivers). I can't think of any other explanation than it somehow managed to install the drivers, because I didn't change anything else.
-
Any drivers out for the GTX470M yet? -.-
-
Well I use 197.15 for Win XP and 197.25 for Vista 64. In my opinion the 197.15 is the best drivers so far for Win XP, especially for my XPS M1730.
-
This definitely depends on the hardware and OS. Generally spoken the 197.25 are definitely not the best drivers for recent games such as BlOps or BFBC2... drivers don't get updated for no reason, I recommend checking out the latest ones and if they don't perform well enough on your system try out an older version...
Some notebook manufacturers also have their own modified version of Nvidia drivers, they may perform even better. -
what hardware do you have?

hi i have a sony 64 bit vpccw13fd laptop preloaded with windows 7 home premium with gpu nvidia geforce g 210m. I formatted the computer with windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.
the sony website only provides the 64 bit driver so that did not work. i found the win 7 32 bit driver from the nvidia website for my exact model but i get the error "this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware" upon installation and am forced to quit. i also tried laptopvideo2go as suggested by the sticky in this section but it just gave me the same .exe as provided by the nvidia website.
would be great if anyone can help. -
Try looking at sony website? ._. Sometimes they provide special drivers for their laptops

Download the inf file from laptopvideo2go, replace the original inf file with the one that you got from laptopvideo2go.

I bought a laptop from a small business that is just starting out. It was a bit of a gamble and I've requested a refund due to problems with the laptop display (screen goes black and it says nvlddmkm.sys failed and it restarts) and I messaged a ton of other buyers to see if they had the same problem and they don't.
Specs:
i3-350m
nvidia 335m
I bought it w/ no HDD/RAM for a slight discount because I wanted to add my own stuff...
8gb DDR3
500gb WD Scorpio 7200rpm
14" LED Screen
It's a really nice laptop and performs surprisingly well and it only cost me $420 brand new. My problem is the driver support. For some reason the hardware id for everything is some code that doesn't pop up anywhere except the MSDN forum in China. So I can't install any updated drivers since the model isn't in any nvidia .inf's and running gpu-z/cpu-z it doesn't identify the motherboard, bios, and video drivers it came with are all unrecognizable. The video driver is particularly scaled down in the amount of info in its .inf.
Is there a company that mods drivers? I've spent insane amounts of time reading about modding the .inf files after extracting the newest drivers but I have no clue what one I can even add this device ID info to. The seller won't even tell me who the ODM is. Tomorrow I'm going to get a really small screwdriver to take the back apart and try to find any identifying info on the motherboard.
m11x's still cost way more than this for the hardware and after looking for a week now I can't find any new laptop near this in hardware for the price. At the same time, I seem to be the only person who is having this problem with the driver provided so the laptop may have defective hardware. Either way, the seller has been a pain the butt to reach since asking about driver updates and asking for a refund (dreaded dispute incoming) and hasn't responded to my request for him to honor the warranty and fix it.
Can anyone provide any info for modding drivers? If I have the hardware there has to be a way to get it to work, even without knowing the ODM as a sort of reference (or maybe taking it apart will help). -

After installing the mfg video driver it goes into the folder oem10 in the windows directory.
Device manager shows this for my hardware ID's
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0CAF&SUBSYS_20021B61&REV_A2
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0CAF&SUBSYS_20021B61
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0CAF&CC_030000

They have your gpu supp, they have like every most recent gpu supported, excluding some sony vaio's.
Edit: Just DL the modded inf, dl the driver.
Unzip driver, place inf(mod) into driver's folder called "Display.Driver"
Run setup -
SUBSYS_20021B61
This is not found anywhere in any new or modded nvidia drivers. It isn't found on any websites that are databases allowing you to search the sequence to find out the manufacturer. It doesn't return anything in every search engine I've tried and the drivers from laptopvideo2go don't work. I made a post in Nautilis' (sp?) modding thread asking for help and had no reply there.
Every driver says my device isn't supported and I've spent a ton of time searching through the new driver .inf's and my computer isn't in any of them. I dont' know which it can even be added to. I'm guessing I don't have optimus since there is no option to switch video cards, ever.
My nvidia control panel has nothing about it. Is there a way to find out for sure? The documentation for this thing sucked, but from what I've seen in my included driver package it had nothing about optimus. -
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us -
So I added a string with my device ID to the driver/inf set that was linked up above and it worked. I just figured that since modding the inf with simply adding the device in it worked for other laptops it should work for mine.
It did! wooo! Yea I use GPU-Z/CPU-Z. What's weird is it doesn't tell me what motherboard I have or bios (CPU-Z). Anyways installing the driver was a bit weird but I used Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider to install in test mode and then signed them all and I'm not having any problems now. I just hope I don't get those damn black screen nvlddmkm.sys crashes.
If I still get them then it has to be a conflict somewhere else and I'm just going to return this thing. Sucks getting a laptop with all this hardware for $400 and it having such little support.
Thanks for the replies/help fellas and I'll update if there are any problems. Gonna monitor temps too with the new driver. I'm positive now I don't have optimus either. -
Ok I did uninstall the drivers that came with Sony for my video card and installed the video driver that came from Intel and so far everything is working right. I don't get any error messages so that's good. But I see that my version of driver is still looks OEM but the last 4 numbers is more updated than the older one.
My old driver version was this. 8.15.10.2182
My newer one is this. 8.15.10.2291
It seems like the generic Intel drivers detected it as OEM and just made some updates to my current one. Since the original version of the 8.15.10.2291 is 15.21.10.64.2291.
I noticed that all Sony drivers have the 8.15.10 part and the last 4 numbers is the actualy version. But it seems like that even I installed 15.21.10.64.2291 it says the current version of drivers I have is this 8.15.10.2291. -
Yep, its fine to use those drivers. Do you notice graphics intense stuff running faster? Well, as intense as Intel graphics can get.
-
Basicly I wanted to know is that why when I installed 15.21.10.64.2291 on my computer it says I have 8.15.10.2291.
I can only think that Intel knows my Intel HD drivers is not generic and it's from OEM Sony but if Intel can detect that my computer is OEM then why does Intel say this.
"Intel provides generic versions of drivers for general purposes. Your computer manufacturer may have altered the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to your driver. Intel recommends you contact your computer manufacturer for the latest system specific updates and technical support information."
But I guess if you guys say it's fine to use 8.15.10.2291 then I can just keep it that way since I don't really see any problems using them so far even it's not from Sony.
I guess all this means is that Sony is just slow on updating there drivers on there esupport page. Since if they always update there drivers they would of already had this updated version but they didn't so I that means I have to keep looking for updates for the video driver in Intel's website. I wonder why Sony says they always update there drivers to the latest so they said to check back often to see if there is any updates. -
-
Are you serious that Sony doesn't update drivers that often for any computers? Since it seems like for other notebook too the drivers are old since you said the latest version for the nVidia is 188.67.
-
So it turns out ive been downloading the new CCC this whole time and not the actual drivers themselves, since they are still dated from Sept. 2010. But when i try to download the drivers for the graphics card i have (HD 5650) it gives me a message of "incompatible hardware/software. Version of your graphics adapter is not supported" do i do? ugh...
-
What model notebook do you have? Some manufacturers have opted out of allowing ATI to update the drivers, notably Sony and Toshiba.
-
HP Envy 14
It has switchable graphics, but i read that you just have to install new drives over each other, and not uninstall the default drivers, since those are the ones that give switchability. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
you have to get the drivers directly (you can't download them from ati's website).
instead you have to use the direct link that's usually posted on this website somewhere (the post talking about the drivers usually).
I just installed 11.1 with no issue on my envy 14 (installed them over HP 10.6 ...which is just the drivers that came after the stock ones on my envy 14...they're basically modified ATI 10.6 drivers). -
Make sure the driver that you downloaded is the mobility one not the desktop one. That might be why it said your card is not supported.
-
See if your card's device id is in the inf of the driver you're trying to install.
-
Hello
When i download the drivers for my 5650 from ati website, i try to install and it tells me i have no compatible hardware found, try your Manufacturer website.
I can only install Toshiba drivers, which is a shame because the drivers are dated march 2010, any ideas how to install the official ones from the ATI website?
Thanks. -
Download them from Guru3D site (make sure its the MOBILITY driver not the desktop ones without 'mobility' in file name). That's what I did for my Acer, the ATI site one didn't work either.
-
Thanks for the reply, can you point to which ones you are using?
