What CPU and GPU to match PS3 gaming experience?

Well you hit the nail there Akuma. Most multiplatform games is developed on the 360, however this should be no reason the PS3´s version shouldn´t perform similiar.

If this is pure lazyness from the developers I doubt it should be that way now. I think it has to do more that developers can crunch out more performance quicker and easier from the 360 than the PS3 and conclude to that the GPU in the PS3 is worse than the unified GPU of the 360.

As I said Sony only makes it worse for the developers. This of course have to do with Microsoft knows a lot about how to make it easy accessible for the developers. Not to mention they sent along with the 360 when it first arrived development package. Meanwhile Sony didn´t right away, they just sent out the consoles.

 

It's more costlier to develop on Playstation 3 aswell (according to Capcom), that is why my personal most anticipated game was canceled and moved to Wii. (Monster Hunter 3)

 

The only reason why my gf got a wii was for monster hunter 3.

No evidence? Well, now that you said you proved you've never played PS3 exclusives. Cell doesn't give you the edge at visuals, but in game physics, AI's and level of detail. Try playng MotorStorm, MGS4, R2, Uncharted or some well rated exclusives and you'll have your proof. -_-

 

the cells should be good for visuals i think. i would assume it could handle AA really well compared to the 360. the AI would only be better for ps3 dependent games provided they programed a heck of a lot of computers trying to do many things at once. what is so different about the AI of the ps3?

but, sony's claim to fame is the power of the machine yet the stuff on paper doesn't look too much more appealing than xbox360 from what i've seen. i've only played a few ps3 exclusive titles, and while the graphics look good, they weren't up to what i thought the machine would do.

they have blueray discs, so they should be able to provide a monster increase in graphics versus xbox360 in the games because the discs hold so much memory. i think the problem is, no one knows how to optimise the ps3 yet. and a few years down the road when games are better optimised for ps3, computers will be too far ahead, and the stunning ps3 graphics won't be stunning anymore.

i mean, at the rate we're pushing technology, consoles are going to come out every few years (in my opinion) or the companies are just going to let graphics fall behind and work on better games. PS3 was pretty powerful when it first hit the market, even compared to many PC's, but it's alread far behind now.

 

they def could pile up on the extra textures with all the space, look at MGS4, I could compare it with crysis texture-wise anyways. That game used about 40GB, and if they actually decided to put in effort, most textures could look great.

 

let it be known that in my xbox > ps3 post, i totally just pulled that stuff out of my head to see if i could aggravate the troll. i just as easily could have made a ps3 > xbox post.

You obviously were conflicted between the xbox 360 and the ps3, decided to buy the ps3, have slight buyers remorse, and now you came here to convince yourself you made the right decision. Look, the ps3 is not all bad. Is it overpriced for what you get? Sure. Does that make it horrible? No. Was it overhyped by sony? Of course. Can anyone blame them? No.

So just be happy with your ps3 and go play some games instead of complaining.

If you admit that you are a troll, I'll admit that the ps3 is better than the xbox. And I don't own an xbox or ps3, and Im not really interested in either of them.

Also it won Best Original Score award.

those textures looks horrible. Crysis near quality? No way josé Nah I don´t bash PS3 in every thread, I just have my opinion about that particular console. I did own a PS2 though and the original Xbox too. Now just the 360 since the PS3 is still overpriced and no need to get one since multiplats usually is better on the 360 anyway and best on the PC as usual.

It didn't win Best Graphics Award without a reason.

 

The difference is that you can just crank up the settings for Crysis and it stops looking crap, while MGS4 is littered with god awful texturing.

How are the 'best graphics award' judged? I have a feeling that they are very subjective.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is rendered as such: 1024x768 (2xAA, temporal)

And also, most of these reviews state that MGS4 winds because the 'graphics add to the storyline' rather than stating any objective facts (resolution, frame rate, texture sizes, etc). Objectively, there is no way MGS4 graphics are even close to Crysis's, even if the gameplay is much better (and I hate Crysis).

 

Of course you shouldnt compare console game visuals with PC game, especially with Crysis. x_x
I was just pointing out that, you can take a "..." screenshot of ANY game.

But the fact is, that MGS4 is the second highest rated game of this generation and it won some awards too.

 

Ah, I understand, I just noticed that a lot of these awards were cross platform, including PC and was a little bewildered at the results , especially 'best graphics'. Also Persona 4 should have won best RPG!

Phil, there are some good answers on the first couple of pages but it will be easier to ask (and less likely to turn into a flame war) how well a certain graphic card will play the games you are into.
