I'm the same way. The three 3rd-person games I play with the mouse and keyboard are Max Payne 1 and 2 and Oni (the anime-inspired action title Bungie made between Marathon and Halo). They're also the only games where I use WASD for movement as opposed to EDSF.

Dumb question maybe, but is there an advantage to EDSF?cj_miranda23 likes this. -
Not really. On the one hand it opens up the Q/A/R column for controls. On the other hand it moves fingers away from the left side shift, ctrl and alt keys.

Playing only Dota 2 at this moment... > 7500 hours played... omg.

That second part actually sounds like an advantage now that I think of it, I accidentally fat finger caps lock way too often.saturnotaku likes this. -
Rise of the Tomb Raider in all of its glory. Quite the difference between all low (M7820/HD 5870) and all high (GTX 1070)
Beautiful game.

BF1 illusions. The training mode is pretty cool. They have UPC’s that stand totally still, so you can practice sniping, and practice bullet drop.
They just continue to reappear after they die. And you never run out of bullets. -
Not just a pretty face though, I thought it was a great game. The puzzles are tough enough to keep you busy for a whille but not so stupidly difficult that you'll just eventually go online and look up the "couldn't possibly have solved with the available information" answer. You can run and gun or stealth your way around. The platform mechanics play with pc controls which hasn't always been the case with the TR games. The story isn't mesmerizing but was worth allowing to play out without skipping. Decent voice acting, the music wasn't bad and added without being intrusive. IMO solid across the board.triturbo likes this.

Exactly. That's why my first play through was on everything low, just to have fun. Now I have fun and enjoy the eye candy
-
there really isnt much difference between low and ultra in tomb raider....but yes solid game all around
-
not really playing anything at the moment waiting for a couple of new titles that come out over next few months, octopath traveler and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire ill end up getting them both on the switch

Downloaded Radical Heights and have really been enjoying this game over the weekend. I think it has a lot of potential to replace pubg/fortnite. Fast paced 80s game show themed battle royale game. Reminds me of SmashTV meets battle royale. Still in extreme early access and has a lot of work to go, most buildings have no textures on them, some have no roofs and I got stuck in a building over the weekend, but overall where the game is at currently I am having a lot of fun with it and hope things progress well with it as I prefer this to the other current games that are out from the experiences I have had.

Max Payne 3
What a blast...
Have to say Rockstar Games do it the best.

Thought I might load up Skyrim again, so naturally I've been playing "I swear those mods worked together last time" for the past few days.

This was the reason why back in the day when uninstalling Skyrim, I would copy its folder to an external HDD for easier reinstallation. -
How it fares for you? I had issues running it half way through the ghetto and gave-up eventually. I have even changed the folder to C:\MP3 (main folder, no spaces), same.

I've decided to give VR a go and have an Odyssey on the way. What would you gents say are the must have games? I thought about Skyrim, played it hard back in the day but... 60 bucks seems like too much for a game that can have the words "back in the day" applied to it. I'm fairly open to various genres but a little too old to be interested in undressing anime schoolgirls, that would be about the only thing I'd rule out up front.

In the meantime since last time I played it, I changed displays and the resolution was different. Apparently if you're running a modded version (I do sort of the same thing) you have to edit the ini to get the starting resolution to switch or it dies. I've got it back to the point where it CTDs on the first launch then works perfectly after, that's good enough for me. Now to break it with more mods. -

Audioshield. No matter how many games I've tried, I always come back to that one. Imagine Guitar Hero, but the notes are flying at you and you have to punch them. Currently my favorite VR game to just load up and play a few games/songs. Also you can add your own songs.
If you're in any way into flight/pace games, Elite: Dangerous is VR compatible and is absolutely brilliant in it (If you've got a HOTAS setup, playing in VR with a controller is a little weird and it doesn't support motion controls).
SUPERHOT VR. Just watch videos of it, it's as fun as it looks.
Those are my favorites. Honorable mention:
Obduction. I can't fully recommend it because I haven't played much, but what I have played is pretty darn good.
Thumper. Might be awesome, might make you sick. Worth it if the former.
If they've worked out the VR specific issues with Subnautica, that one should also be close to the top. I couldn't handle all the weird clipping problems when I played it in VR but it's a fantastic game outside the headset and I will probably end up going back to it.
Most of the climbing simulators are good (not sure which are compatible with Odyssey)
Not a game, but Tilt Brush is great. Think a paint program but you can paint in 3 dimensions. If it were a game it would be in my top recommendations.
Not good but do it anyway: Any lightsaber or lightsaber-like game. They're all crap in terms of quality, but just screwing around with the lightsabers is worth the $3 that they go for on sale.
Also: There are a lot of VR "experiences" that don't really count as games, but are fun anyway. Many are free since they're just showcasing the tech.
Also also: Many/most games can be played either in a theater mode or in stereoscopic 3D with the use of third party applications. I have so far found them difficult to use, but your mileage may vary. Don't bother with fast paced shooters, the latency will make you die a lot.krabman likes this. -
Its running great.
Had a few pauses and odd glitch but generally it's been great on my Surface Book and fps is awesome around 80-90fps.
The story and writing of the script is sensational. Have to ask why games today aren't like this.
Currently in Act XI.
Rockstar games you certainly know how to make proper games.
Great to be playing this once again. -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Cancelled my WOW sub till August for next xpac.
To pass the time, I dropped $7 on a Deus Ex:Mankind Divided key to finally give it a whirl since I’ve enjoyed all the previous releases.
Also debating whether to pick up a VR rig and giving it a whirl. -

Do it! It's a lot of fun. -
I don't regret jumping in but I'd say it's not ready for prime time with the tech illiterate because the desire to plug it in and have everything work will not be met. There's going to be files to edit, utilities to download, some research to figure things out. I suspect the types that post here have no problem, even a pathetic old man like me got things sorted out although it wasn't without a helping of facepalm. I'm not sure I'd recommend jumping all in with the Vive pro and it's supporting hardware unless the buyer were well heeled. That would be a lot of ching to drop for something that is nothing more than a first gen device with a graphics update. These things feel first gen too so I think most folks would want to jump on the better sorted out stuff which will be hitting shortly. Oh and I knocked over a lamp, which was both injury (busted knuckle) and insult (Mrs Crab was vocal about my mishap).
I will say the first game I jumped into was Tomb Raider. The game starts out in the mansion and seeing Laura standing there in 3D and walking around and looking at her told me all I need to know about the VR concept in general, it's the future, I've no doubt of it. -
Anyone tried Escape from Tarkov?

Anyone playing the new Battletech game?

I just started Battletech last night. Stayed up a little bit too late and was dead tired at work.
-
If you're of a mind I'd be interested in your early gut call on it when you feel like you've played enough to make one.
-
I asked this a while ago
I still play as "Koinzell" after the 0.8 wipe.
EDIT: The most recent hotfix patch has been giving me network related issues, so I have to wait until its resolved since I'm getting desyncing. -
Those of you who have bought into VR, an FYI... Google earth is free and quite enjoyable for almost everyone. End FYI.

bought FFXV and it's downloading,....slowly.

Someone pointed this out before and I can't "un-see" it, but when you zoom out or are at an altitude off the ground, it doesn't feel like you're flying, it feels like you're just really big and the world is smaller. This makes exploring cities hilarious because instead of being like a helicopter tour as I was expecting, it feels like you're Godzilla.jaybee83 likes this. -

I like it.
And if anyone was wondering, as soon as this was pointed out to me the first place I loaded up was Japan. -
I am playing Pool of Radiance right now with GBC. It's been since like 1990 or 1991 with my Amiga since I've played it. Having fun. Not sure I could stomach it without GBC, takes a bit of the tedium things out. I don't have the time to draw my own maps and go through menus of things to restock spells/ammo.

Bayonetta. Picked it up for the Switch last week, wanted a break from the grind that is Disgaea 5.

I just installed Fallout 4, the HI-Res texture pack. And adjusted my resolution to 4K, it’s looking beautiful!
It’s tough to get G-Sync working in this title, but it’s butter smooth now with no input lap!
The difference in performance coming from a desktop i5, 6th gen cpu at 5Ghz on DDR4 2133mhz, To a i7 7th gen at 4.7Ghz on DDR4 2,414mhz is day and night! One of the few games to really show huge improvement with faster memory, and a much better cpu.
The game is seriously cpu hungry. I think it just needs a i7 minimum..
Minimum FPS is up drastically. -
Yeah. I went from an 4710HQ to a 7820HK, and I noticed an enormous jump in performance. Then I read about how important memory is in this game, so I downclocked the 7820HK to match the 4710HQ and the difference was still enormous. I think going from 1600MHz DDR3L to 2400MHz DDR4 was what actually had an effect. Pretty cool.
