Is the game actually good? It's OK if it runs at 30-45 fps if the game is fun.

Yeah, I'm also on the fence about Homefront The Revolution.
I know its flaws and weaknesses, yet it still kinda intrigues me...

Continuing playing *eagle!* Far Cry 4. It did get *kill the courier!* a bit better, but not by much.
*destroy the truck!* There are clearly improvements to *watch out for tiger!* Far Cry 3 formula, but *eagle!* it's still very samey, more so than a very short *eagle!* Blood Dragon. Oh and maybe you've guessed one of my *eagle!* biggest gripes this game has - it doesn't let you appreciate exploration much, in a game which has a ton of *kill the courier!* it. You can't walk 200m in piece without being *eagle!* shot, bit, pooped on, driven over, or whatever.
Far Cry 3 was definitely more laid back.

You forgot to mention eagle :D

Don't take it so personally, I find GLaDOS awesome. For me at least, half of the fun in Portal 1 and 2 came from her :D

I finally finished everything AC4: Black Flag. Well.. everything except going back and 100% syncing all the memories (I'm at 94%). That game was such a blast and the DLC stories were good as well.

Now I'm going back to the Witcher 3. It was a little intimidating that I've only gotten 24% of the achievements and I'm 89hrs in according to GOG galaxy.

Don't hunt achievements, just enjoy the game!
I'm over 300h in TW3, and got 53% or so achievements according to GOG Galaxy, though I don't care! Achievements is such a useless feature.

Agreed. I don't really "hunt" to try to get them all, it normally gets in the way of me enjoying playing. I have games I spent hundreds of hours on and don't have a ton of achievements and I don't care :p

I have done it in rare cases where I was getting bored and it helped give me an extra goal to play, like borderlands 2 and one or two others I can't think of off hand.

I don't hunt them, I just used it as a gauge of maybe how far I am. There's so many question marks on the map... Must go to them all..... Muuuuuusssst....

Well that was a bit irritating... Nice game until it crashes. I'm not so sure I'm going to bother with it much more, I can't stand shoddy coding. If I have to save every 10 seconds, it becomes worthless to me. CTD is simply unacceptable and apparently prominent with 4 so I guess I'll be staying away from it as well. Bugthesda indeed......

FO3 has a number of 32-bit restrictions that make it unhappy if you mod it. Most notable is that the game executable won't use more than 2GB memory. CFF Explorer has a tool that will tweak the executable to use more than 2GB -- that is, it makes the executable PAE-aware. FO3 also has problems with multicore rigs. These changes to Fallout.ini fixes this:

    [General]
    bUseThreadedAI=1
    iNumHWThreads=2

If you have New Vegas then I highly recommend Tale of Two Wastelands. It converts FO3 to run in the superior New Vegas version of the engine.

The unofficial patch did patch all of that. I don't know why it CTD but I gave it another shot and blew up Megaton and killed the ghouls without another issue so it must have just been a fluke. At least this time it was not a TDR lol.

I do own New Vegas as well (I got one of Bundle Stars' super bundles that had all the old FO games) but I'm completely new to mods, I install Tale of Two Wastelands in New Vegas and it runs FO3 in the New Vegas engine? Would my save be compatible or would I be starting over?

The unofficial patch does not enable PAE in the executable. It only addresses (some of the) problems within the game itself.

You don't install TTW in New Vegas. It's a standalone program. It's better that you read their description of what it is and what it does for yourself than me trying to explain it here.

Saves from FO3 cannot be loaded by New Vegas or TTW.

It requires a paid membership to download?

The Steam version should already be patched to the latest 1.7 2009 Bethesda patch version. You can find it free, along with the patches.
    http://patches.bethsoft.com/

The 2 lines to edit/add to FALLOUT.ini are easy to do manually, and whenever I reinstall I do those at least.

There are lots of other mods, and here are some videos to guide you. That FALLOUT.ini is covered as the first mod in part 1:

Install Guide for Fallout 3 mods Part 1/4

The other 3 Parts links are in the Part 1 description. As with most older guides, the links/download locations given may be long gone, but the names can be searched for, and checking comments in video guides can have alternative links.

Well at this point it seems to be working fine, was probably just a fluke. I don't want to start over and I'm happy with the game overall other than the random frame drops which don't appear to be video card related (1080p ultra doesn't even push my video card past its base clock and the temps are way too low for the video card to be struggling at all).

Membership is free. It took me about 5 minutes to download the patch on a free membership. And yes, Steam had it on the latest version (the patch is made for the latest version). Was a PAE patch included at some point then?

    UPDATED Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch

An Update of the Original Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch mod by Quazzy
    Fallout 3 Setup Advice
    Spanish Version

    What it does
This mod fixes errors and bugs in the FO3 + DLC esms. Cut content is reviewed/restored only if fixable and able to blend into the game perfectly.

    Requirements
    • Fallout3.esm
    • Anchorage.esm
    • ThePitt.esm
    • BrokenSteel.esm
    • PointLookout.esm
    • Zeta.esm

If missing dlc, the installer will offer an older version (1.3) with the critical Rivet City crash lacking in the original version of this mod.

    Installation
    • Uninstall any error-fixing mods that are already included in this patch
    • Uninstall the original unofficial patch by Quazzy and any prior version of this mod if present
    • ** This is a complete replacement for the original unofficial patch, the two must not be used at the same time!
    • After downloading it, double click on the exe file. (If this fails, right click it and select "run as administrator".)
    • Tick it in your Mod Manager
This patch overwrites the same texture & mesh files as some other mods.
Simply activate this mod before activating other mods, so that all other mods "win".
If using a mod manager, you can quickly de-activate all mods, install/activate this, then re-activate all other mods.
If this instruction is followed, there are no known conflicts with other mods.

    Load Order
    • Fallout3.esm
    • Anchorage.esm
    • ThePitt.esm
    • BrokenSteel.esm
    • PointLookout.esm
    • Zeta.esm
    • Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch.esm
Boss Auto Sort will arrange for you in this order.

    Uninstallation
    • To uninstall, simply run the uninstaller from your programs menu or in your control panel - uninstall a program
    Cut Content Restored and Reasons
    • Restored the Ranger Battle Helmet's texture to green so it matches its green colored armor
    • Restored Moriarty's Strongbox key into his inventory. If you talk to Jericho in Megaton and give him money for booze, in return he'll tell you about the cabinet in which Moriarty keeps his caps, and the key that opens it. The only problem is Moriarty didn't have the key.
    • Restored when you receive the T-45d Power Armor from Sarah Lyons to receiving the Lyons Pride Power Armor instead. It didn't make sense with what sarah said when she gave you the T-45d Power Armor and you weren't able to receive the Lyons Pride Power Armor in the game. Not only is it disappointing to receive an ordinary T-45d Power Armor set, it made no sense to what Sarah Lyons said to you about becoming an honorary Lyons member. You can find the T-45d Power Armor set in many places before reaching that point. Reaching that far in the quest line should reward you with an unique Power Armor set and for what you're about to face (which is the fun enclave battle).
    • Restored when you receive Recon Armor from Sarah to receiving the Composite Recon Armor instead. You weren't able to receive the Composite Recon Armor in the game. The only reason why it's in here because in the similar scenario as the previous change, reaching that far in the quest line should reward you with an unique recon set and for what you're about to face (which is the fun enclave battle ). That armor set is hardly more powerful then the common one in any case.
    • Restored the area behind the Chop Shop in Underworld. An inaccessible door blocked your way to get behind there. I see no reason why you can't go back there. There's a locked safe and 2 named ferals that don't attack you.
    • Restored the Protectron's Gaze to The Mechanist and Ant's Sting to The Antagonizer. Protectron's Gaze is awarded after handing the AntAgonizer's armor to the Mechanist. Ant's Sting is awarded after handing the Mechanist's costume to The Antagonizer. Both weapons couldn't be obtained by killing them and they didn't use those weapons to defend themselves. I see no reason why these 2 characters shouldn't have their own weapons to begin with.
    • Restored Megaton Brass Lantern Customer's unique dialogue. They're supposed to be friendly and the only npc that's supposed to be rude is Andy in The Brass Lantern.
    • (v2.1) Restored Mister Burke fully into the game(Screens). There's dialogue Burke says either before, during, or after the Tenpenny Tower quest and the You Gotta Shoot 'Em in the Head quest. Burke's house was pointlessly sitting in Megaton never being used by him. Burke sat in a chair at Moriartys all day long and never gets up. He's disabled from the game for no reasons. Everything that was cut fits into the game perfectly which are the following:
      - Burke will only disappear/be disabled from game if you charm him and not blow up megaton
      - You're able to initiate conversations with Burke at appropriate times including before and after quests
      - Burke is a resident of Megaton with a daily routine. Going to his house to sleep at night, sit in that chair at Moriartys during the day, etc
      - Burke's house isn't level locked and only unlocked with his house key
      - Burke's house key is back in his inventory
      - Burke has a daily routine at Tenpenny Tower. Hanging out in the balcony area during the day, sleeping in his own bed at night, etc
    Mod Suggestions and Reasons
    Current Version Changes (2.2)
    • In progress of fixing all of Megaton to account for when npcs are dead for dialogues (Examples: Screen1, Screen2, Screen3)
    • Fixed the doors for entering/exiting into the purifier room that were backwards. When you entered into one of them, you'd be on the opposite side of the room. Thanks to chucksteel
    • Fixed not being able to obtain the Protectron's Gaze and Ant's Sting weapons twice. If you obtained the Protectron's Gaze in dialogue and then kill The Mechanist after, you could have 2 of them in The Superhuman Gambit quest. Same scenario with the Ant's Sting. In those dialogues for both characters, their unique weapons will get removed and get added into your inventory instead.
    • Fixed not gaining/losing karma (for all DLCs as well) towards dogs, vicious dogs, feral ghouls, mad brahmin, turrets, mirelurk kings, mister gutsy, mister handy, protectrons, robobrains, sentry bots, swamplurk queen, and spider drones
    • Improved the Bloody Mess Perk towards the You Gotta Shoot Em In The Head quest. The perk will not be in effect towards those npcs you kill.
For me the FALLOUT.ini and Large Address Space patch has always given a stable running FO3, and I don't take the time for further fixes, but maybe it's time to check out this update, and other mods.

The Large Address Space patch for FO3 is on that site too:
    http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/6510/?
    Support Forum still active:
    https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/124057-large-address-aware-enabler-for-fo3/page-1
If you are running on a 64 bit system, FO3 will be able to access 4GB instead of 2GB after enabling the large address space flag in the file.

You copy FallOut3.exe from the steam install to the unpacked zip file utility folder, then run the Start script, I usually View the File settings to make sure the bit hasn't already been flipped, and then Add and View again to make sure it's been flipped, then copy it back to the Steam install - not before renaming the original FallOut3.exe.

This is what it looks like through View after the flag has been set:
large address space mod result from Add using View.JPG
    - weird, that Red line underlining the flag text was straight shown in snipping tool where I added it :)

    Annoying Exit bug in FO3:
FO3 for me sometimes goes to a black screen when I Exit from mid-game or from the Main menu. The fix is to CTL-ALT-DEL, start Task Manager, and kill the Fallout3 process, crude but effective :)

Yeah they try to trick you into a paid membership like most sites lol.

Before the patch the game would freeze after the opening video and post patch I had the one CTD that happened in Megaton, forcing me to redo all of Megaton because I hadn't saved after the autosave. Now I'm just saving after every major action.

I've played RPGs for years. They were my favorite genre growing up. There is a huge difference between saving after a boss fight and saving every 5 minutes because you're worried about a crash.

Isn't a general rule of RPGs to save often? Not because of crashes (although in case of Bugthesda games it's also true), but because sometimes you can make a bad choice of spending your skill points/dialogue option/etc.

Playing waiting game. Can't wait for Blood & Wine due on 31.05.
In the mean time rushing through Far Cry 4. Almost done with it.

Most RPGs have fixed save points though meant to drive you through the story with the challenge the way the developers intended. FO3 saves are mostly to avoid crashing. FO3 seems like the kind of game where you blow up Megaton in one play through and then decide to save it on your next new game, not one where you change your decisions and roll back after you make them. The consequences aren't apparent right away, they come later unlike your average RPG where the story tends to be mostly fixed.

Nah, unless it's just an extremely brutal game it should be somewhat forgiving in allowing you to roleplay a character how you want.

I think ToEE is definitely one of those games that you can make things miserable on yourself unless you meta game.

    Papers, Please!

I know a little late to the game. But I downloaded MP3 of the main theme song and played it on repeat in my car on the way home in traffic. I started laughing my head off to the tuba BOOM BOOM over an over again. That's how it felt in traffic, slow and heavy. Hey I have to get my kicks somehow when you're fighting traffic.

I've started Fallout 4 yesterday and getting to grips with rebuilding Sanctuary to keep those settlers happy!

It's fun learning a new game and I'm taking this one a bit slower as I went through FO NV quite quickly and was surpised it just ended and you couldn't carry it on after the final quest.

Settings on low due to my GPU being powered by a hamster but it still looks and plays well :)

I fired up Bioshock today just to see what it looks like with 4K DSR and to my surprise, it has native Xbox controller support now (it didn't originally) so I'm now sitting in my chair preparing to take on this game I have heard much about but never really got into because a mouse and keyboard was too cumbersome. DSR is one incredible invention, I'll tell you that.

I'm not playing anything at this moment, but recently I've been playing The Division. It came bundled with my 1tb Xbox One and it's actually really fun IMO.

Division has literally died at least on PC side.. 90% of players have supposedly left.. However I still enjoy it, it's a great game for playing with friends...

I keep seeing people complain about the server not working (or something along those??) on Facebook. I'm wondering if it's just the PC players having this instability, or if I'm just lucky. Though the Xbox servers aren't crowded, I can always find teamates for missions through automatch without delay.

So, on PC do you use your Uplay account for connecting?

Also really enjoying Fallout 4 but havent added any content yet. Does it change any of the origional game at all?

Cait is a lot of fun but doesn't half get me in trouble - especially around Boston where she's like a trouble magnet. Reminds me of a hairdresser I once went out with - she was also a trouble magnet! :p

Next on my list, just waiting for the 1070 card to be released. I'll be on this like a tramp on a bag of chips!
