I was just watching the trailer for Trackmania 2 Canyon and it looks spectacular, but for some reason it brought back memories of a racing game by Microsoft of all companies called Midtown Madness, for xbox, although I think one of them was made for PC too. In any case it is more or less an open world, they roughly would emulate real world cities for racing. It's kinda like GTA but with an emphasis on racing, taking challenges like running an ambulance or bus or taxi to actually pick up hurt people or taxi people around. It has a destructible environment except you can't hurt people (I guess for PG rating). I can't remember if cops were involved or not, but it was a lot of fun, no nonsense unrealistic physics racing, stunts, and just overall fun.
I haven't seen anything quite like it since then. Would love to see it made again.

In the 90's there was a game called either Alien or Aliens... Loosely based on the movies. For it's time, very fun.

The OG Metal Gear Solid. Loved that game so much as a kid. Deus Ex could work well, too. Oh, and Morrowind. All the TES games have been let downs compared to TES III.
This doesn't really count, but I'd like proper PC ports of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, not like the gimped port of DkS from last year. Full HD graphics optimized for high end GPUs, 60fps, etc. Can't wait for Dark Souls II. -
I guess I'd say Chrono Trigger. It's my favorite RPG ever and it would be pretty neat to see it in HD.
-
New version of X-Wing and TIE Fighter... They don't have to be exact copies, just action space combat sim in the star wars universe.
-
the Legacy of Kain series simly because the only one I played was Defiance so I missed out quite a lot back then. The older ones don't hold up too well now sadly.
-
I would like to see a redone Chrono Cross myself, but not just graphics wise. If they had tied the story from CC to that of CT a lot earlier, it would have been a much better game.
-
I liked Chrono Cross, it was a beautiful game, but I would love, love, love to see a real sequel to Chrono Trigger that tied into the story.
-
Shattered Galaxy, the MMORTS, not the moba/SC "~~~~". Strategy matters, not APM/last hit...
-
On topic though, I'll be that guy... I would love to see FF VIII and FF VIII redone, heck Tactics too. No new content, I wouldn't even want voice acting, just a visual overhaul to bring the art to life in the modern era. These games have a special place in my heart and always will.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing FF VII remade, either. Midgar in HD with today's graphics would be an amazing sight.
-
Phantasy Star I or IV. Both were great RPGs with quite an elaborate story line but were held back by the technology of the consoles of their time.
-
X-Wing
TIE Fighter
X-Wing vs TIE Fighter
Original (isometric) Syndicate
Raptor: Call of the shadows
Original (isometric) Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics
Betrayal at Krondor
Lands of Lore
Jones in the fast lane
Horde
Stunts
Ravenloft
Menzoberranzan
Theme Park
Theme Hospital
and many more...
All of those games had TONS of gameplay. I would love to see them remade, with game mechanics unchanged, just with modern graphics. Many remakes today (XCOM can be a good example) are far worse then the original games (but that's just my personal opinion). -
This is already on the way.. Wasteland 2.
-
Aliens Colonial Marines, because even if I had fun with it, it really got so much wasted potential.
If we're talking only about old games, Goldeneye and Counter Strike 1.6 would come to my mind. Both games could be remade with the same awesome gameplay, just with much better graphics.
-
The Warriors.
-
Goldeneye!
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Love the two in red. Gog's release of Raptor was so disappointing - horizontal movement is so slow it's not really worth playing.
Never played the game - any good?. It's one of my favorite movies, though. They were working on a remake (or maybe trying to get together the capital) for a few years, but I haven't heard anything for a while.
I'd agree that a Deus Ex remake in a prettier engine would be nice. The last time I tried to play through the game I just couldn't get into it like I used to. They could do the same for the Thief series for the same reason - no significant mechanical changes necessary, maybe a bit of tweaking, but I'm mostly concerned about graphics.
I'd also be into a remake of the Ultima series - the remakes of 5 and 6 via total conversion mods for Dungeon Siege were very welcome, but a total refresh of the entire series in a new engine would be great - bring the first few games up to the same level of depth as the later installments, make them more accessible graphically and gameplay-wise, and fix everything that was broken in Ultima IX (i.e. redo the entire game from scratch). -
Master of Orion and Master of Magic. Don't change anything, don't ruin the mechanics, just make those full HD graphics, add some more flavor, better AI/Diplomacy and that's it. I guess this is too much to ask, though...
Same goes for Dungeon Keeper. What a classic.
Oh, and Might and Magic 6-8. I know, we have Skyrim these days, which is pure, distilled awesome juice, but how I loved those back in the day, loved nearly everything about them. Again, make 'em with today's graphics and leave their gameplay mechanics intact and I'll be jumping for joy.
And although it's not too old, the first Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War was perfect. Why did they have to mess it up with this crummy sequel? I know it's not part of the tabletop mechanics, but the base building was so fun in that game. -
Legacy of Kain : Soul River was one of my fauvorite game ever. Wish that series was bought to life again. Also would like to see another Rollcage. I thing the last one I've played was Stage 2 and it kicked a$$ -
Goldeneye has already been remade(d?). You just need a console to play it
-
Final fantasy x ---- Even know it does look great using an emulator, it would be amazing to see the game play, looking almost like their cut senses. plus, it was my all time favorite in the series.
Donkey Kong country! it was my chilhood. i was a little disappointing that the wii version didn't contain the kremlins. But hey, it was still a pretty solid game never the less.
Killer instinct. i dont know what it was about the game, but it made it favorite of mine.
So yeah, im kinda an old school kid, when it comes to games
-
I'd like to see the Metal Gear Solid series remade using the BF3 or MW graphics engine. Sons of Liberty was probably my favorite. I played that 24/7 as a kid. I loved the sneaking around and stealing key cards from stealth kills, etc.
I think it is still being made by someone, but the game has died and sucks now. -
The original Deus Ex. Couple the story with the art direction of Human Revolution, an updated soundtrack and graphics, and I will throw my money at it.
-
+1 'War for Nosgoth' domain registered by Square Enix, prompting Legacy of Kain rumors - Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain - Neoseeker Forums
Another Battlezone - because the second one was a disaster
Another Fragile Allegiance - because Planetary Annihilation won't cut it -
Baldur's Gate 2 (NOT the enhanced edition nonsense, a whole new game, with new engine, new dynamics, new npcs, new quests, only AD&D remaining intact), will never happen..
-
Id love to see Morrowind with fully voiced dialogue and updated graphics... that game was just so amazing for its time. I know there are some community mods to help with the graphics but they just cant come close to what a modern engine and professional voice actors can accomplish.
-
I would like to see "Star Trek TNG A final Unity" re-made and expanded (not with more explosions and 'action' but rather more exploration options and puzzles.
Similar with Star Trek 25th anniversary and Judgment Rites (though, those 2 games are already quite long as is). -
I'd love to see Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Klingon Academy remade... I have the old original discs but would love a good remake in a modern engine!
Also, I did enjoy Midtown Madness, it was available for PC long before Xbox if I recall, I believe there was even a sequel or two... I've still got the original game disc in the basement!
EDIT: Additional game looking through my old stash of discs that I'd LOVE to see a modern proper remake of: Interstate '76! GOG.com released an "updated" copy a couple years back but it still has all sorts of issues on modern systems.... absolutely LOVED playing the Groove! -
Whoever mentioned Might and Magic 6-8, good call. I would love to see a modern version of those games, as a competitor to Bethesda's open-world RPGs. Keep the turn-based combat, keep all the elements of the old game but improve upon it and give it a fresh coat of paint. That would be AMAZING.
-
Midtown Madness for sure, so much hours used on those games! Wow just wow, have the most recent one on the xbox, and man I used hundreds of hours on that games getting different paints unlocks for cars
-
Speaking of Xbox games, Crimson Skies remade would be awesome too.
-
NOSTALGIA THREAD WOOP WOOP
I'm completely turned upside down now!
The Italian Job? Original xbox game, I have thousands of those..
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
TimeSplitters - FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BRING IT BACK!
The original Ghost Recon games!
-
failwheeldrive Notebook Deity
TimeSplitters and tactical squad-based fps Ghost Recon ftw!
-
Richard Burns Rally with new graphics, just an visual overhaul
-
Thinking about this, I'd say Age of Mythology with the improved 3D graphics, ever - intriguing narrative and a strong connection with the previous installments. However, given the boredom it's spiritual brother Age of Empires 3 has delivered at the time of the going out, I'd say no. Let it rest peacefully in the video game history.
-
I'd like to say the Wing Commander series, but I don't know if I'd like it as much without the original cast for the FMVs. There's also Full Throttle which I never got to finish, and a Yoda Stories remake would be cool
As for Crimson Skies, I think I'd rather they redid the PC version, wasn't much into the XBox one. -
Aliens: Colonial Marines, by a competent developer.
Seriously though, Blood, and Blood 2, or even a sequel. I would love to see Quarantine and Quarantine 2 again. The usual of course probably already mentioned X-Wing, Tie-Fighter, X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter and X-Wing: Alliance. In that area I would not mind seeing a remake or update of the Rogue Squadron series.Wing Commander would be great to see again, though that new project they had on kickstarter should fill that gap. Maybe Strike Commander, oh yes Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 would be amazing to play again in HD, as would Echelon, the old C64 not the sequel or whatever it was in the early 00's.
As Prydeless says Crimson Skies, can't believe I forgot that one. -
"Deus Ex 1" with the "Deus Ex:Human Revolution" engine; mainly because I never played DeusEx1
-
I'd like to see a reboot of
Wing commander series including privateer
Xwing, tie fighter series
Myth
Homeworld
Command and conquer
Would love to play these classics again, great stories and really good gameplay, games nowadays are more eye candy than gameplay

A wouldn't mind a proper remake of Syndicate.
-
Duke Nukem 3d !
Ho wait... -
Hired Guns

Amazing game. Rockstar, creators of GTA, captured the mood and vibe brilliantly. The original cast, the original OST and all of the fighting. Its a prequal to the film for the first half of the game and the later parts recreate the movie. Bullying the crap out of "The Orphans" never felt so good.
Downloaded a PS2 emulator just to play it again.
Such a great game that deserves 1080p and high res textures. -
I didn't think anyone else had actually played this game. I consider it one of the best games of all time, and would love to see a remake...
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Keep the game mechanics, story and stuff but up-rate the graphics to the current generation and we got ourselves a winner!
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Yoda Stories = 1,000,000 points. You win, sir. -
I couldn't agree more!

SimCopter. The original was a lot of fun, but very buggy. Lots of Blue Screens of Death, and if your computer was too fast it would always BSOD within 30 minutes, usually within 10. Fortunately my laptop can be underclocked enough to play it, but that's not an ideal solution. It also only works on 32-bit thanks to 16-bit portions of the installer
. As a tertiary factor, I suppose its graphics are a bit out of date... but it's the stability/installer stuff that's most important.
Personally I like the original Deus Ex the way it is. It's stable, it's a great game. The graphics fit in with the theme just fine, so why change them? Sure, they aren't as fancy as something from 2009, but they're quite good for 1999 and fit the theme very well. If you're playing Deus Ex for the graphics instead of the storyline and gameplay, you're playing it for the wrong reasons.
This may be influenced by what my friends who have tried Halo Anniversary report - that it isn't as good as Halo 1 with the original graphics. Mostly because it's busier, with worse contrast between the cyborgs and the terrain, and thus doesn't work as well as a shooter. Looks good, doesn't play as well. I'm similarly skeptical that fancier Deus Ex graphics would make it a better game.
What game would you like to see remade and why?
