Horse racing game on a C64...dots moving across teh screen, but it was 1987, we were poor, and it was the coolest thing ever!!!

After that, probably Frogger on the old IIe's. And Oregon Trail, of course...agree with the poster way back, that I always had waaaaay more bullets than needed, but was never out of meat...

I would have to say sim city classic as well, although I did play ski free on my uncles PC. Played it on my 80286 that was the first PC I ever built or owned in late 1992ish.

I found it!. This was my favourite game of the 80's. Believe it or not, it was a 3D first-person-view game, you got a spaceship to kill ETs, with a radar, and you can even travel to other system by hyperspace (A concept lost: the precision of your HS travel depended on your skill with the Joystick), and dock with a friendly mothership to do repairs and get fuel.
Here is the precursor of all spaceship games: Star Raiders (Atari, 1979).

Yeah doom was extremely hard. I kept dying on the first level on the easiest difficulty, but I pwned at Age of Empires. I could beat the campaigns on the trial version of the gam on hard difficulty (never got around to trying harder or hardest...)

well I think I beat you ALL :D

digger, as far as I remember, was the first game I played on computer. I used to go to my moms work place where they had 2 computers I think, and on one of them was that game that was soo good, lol.

then the next mania was Double Draggon .. oh man, game for 2 players that played at the same time on one KBD.

that must have been like around 1985, we used DOS 3.0

the computer itself was 86. Yeah, the first 16-bit computer. After that one they developed 88, then 186, then 286, then 386, then 486, then pentiums .. and so on.

so games like SimCity 1, Prince of Persia 1, Doom, Dune 2 .. were long time after I played that game Digger :D

Grow up kid, any of the gamers here who've played on the original Atari and Commodore 64 platforms will show you what veteran gaming REALLY means. Hell anyone who's played the game Pong when it was first released for the PC's predecessor can truly be considered an "old" gamer.

Fair enough, but starting a sentence with "I think I beat you all" really doesn't give me any other impression than that of a kid who can't wait to show off how much better he/she is than anyone is.

Although the Atari and Commodore 64 platforms aren't true PCs, I consider games on them to be the predecessors of the DOS-era and would count them in my opinion.

I still have a classic pong console.

My first hand held "video game device" was a racing game that worked by flashing light bulbs in rapid sequence through cut-outs of cars to give the appearance that the cars were moving. You had to avoid the cars as they moved down the "screen" by switching lanes.

It was grade school science project level tech and it was cutting edge!

not sure if it was on the atari or some other device before that, but we played that game that had a ball going from left to right and two lines (on the left and on the right side of the screen) that would bounce the ball and not let it pass through .. dont know the name of the game, sorry. Similar to pinball I guess
