I think maplestory are more for kids and it's wayyy too addicting for them...70 percent of my school plays it and it's all they talk about...they spend an average of about 9-11 hours a day on it...-.-...

WoW is no doubt the best

Not sure about the sound track, haven't played it. Same goes for the challenge.
It's unknown when it'll be available in North America. Could be a few weeks, could be a year. If you live in NA as I do you're screwed and best off trying a different MMO for the time being.
The Asian and European publishers IP block all but their own locations. You can get around this by using a proxy but it's not really a viable solution and I'm not going to explain how but you can definitely find out how by googling "Cabal europe proxy".
The graphics are easily better than WOW and FFXI. At least at Perfect World level if not better than that as well. -
Ohh i forgot to ask this. Is 2 moons very party orriented? I cant stand it when i have to do things on my own =( The thing i liked ABOUT ff11 IS THAT YOU NEED A PARTY TO LVL ETC. -

WoW because it's by Blizzard. If it's made by Blizzard, it HAS to be good.
Guild Wars for no monthly fees. So it's a tie between WoW and Guild Wars. Weren't the designers of Guild Wars the old Blizzard North employess that left before WoW (As in the guys behind War2, Starcraft, Diablo)? -
Tabula Rasa is where it's going to be. Before that my favorite MMOs would have been Everquest and Planetside. Planetside was uber fun, mass tactical, FPS kind of gaming in MMO format.

can someone compose a list of free mmorpg out right now. or where i can find a list of it online. college students need to save money...im cheap like that =p
-
Go Warhammer Online!!!!!!! Wooooooo
-
Guild Wars all the way. I have all 3 campaigns, and I've never regretted buying them. The first is the longest, the second is the hardest, and the third is the most enjoyable with the addition of heroes.
No monthly fee is an added plus, and I assure you you will find the game fun.
Guild Wars! -
WoW isn't a bad game, but its like going back to kindergarten, only the kids are nicer and more mature in kindergarten.
The gameplay is actually quite good, but the class balance is poor, the graphics are pretty bad, and the community is the worst of all RPGs I have played on every server I have tried. This game needs a 17+ only server very VERY badly. Let's put it this way... Ten minutes of WoW is the best arguement for sterility surgery I have ever heard.
Lineage 2 is a older game with a large following in europe. You will find many different kinds of people and indeed I have met the most actual female gamers in L2 than any other MMORPG I have ever played. The game requires a great deal of time investment to get powerful, and thus the kiddies usually avoid it. On the lighter side, iits graphics are quite inmpressive for the age of the game and its open PvP, so unlike WoW, if you meet some guy with a derivative of Drizzt, you can kill him repeatedly like he deserves. On the downside, its a long grind to power and class balance simply doesn't exist (buffed archer > all).
The best feature of Lineage 2 are the people you meet who are usually professionals from all over the US and Europe. I have had more RL social events and trips planned around this game than any other I have ever played.
If L2 ever fixed its balance and bot issues, I'd say it was the best MMORPG ever.
My next MMORPG will likely be Conan... the concepts and combos are very VERY interesting. -
i have just started playing eve. it has a steep learning curve and is more targeted at mature players. i think the average age is about 22 or something.
$15 is worth it to me, if i don't go and buy any other games. which quite frankly is unlikely.
i used to play wow, and in about 7 months, i didn't buy another game. that makes it worth it in my opinion.
i like the game, because it isn't just focussed on fighting or questing. but you can focus on what ever you enjoy doing. -
If your on a crap computer i recomend Lineage 1, an old classic.
www.lineage.com
Its 15 dollars a month, about 10 euros.
But its just a sheer classic.
I remember playing it a good few years ago when it first came out, it was massive for a good while. One of the first real mmorpg's created.
The main advantage of lineage 1 is that its graphics is not very demanding so you dont have to have a massive computer to play it.
The main disadvantage is that its graphics is not very demanding so you can get easily bribed by more modern games that you would be paying the same for!
Also most of the characters left playing are all high level, so your thrown into the deep end right away, but it also has its positive side, as high levels charaters have high level items and tons of cash. So they have no problems at all giving good items and money to new players.
Plus, since most people are bribed by the likes of WoW, the userbase that is left in Lineage ends up being extremely friendly to new players. You fit in very quickly.
Recently also there has been tons of "events", like double experience weeks, polymorph events etc.
But on a negative side, theres tons of koreans and botters that play it, which isn't great for english speaking players having to watch korean language all day and not having a clue. But you get that in most mmorpgs tbh. -
Eve is, imho, the deepest and most complex of the current mmorpgs but ultimately I've found it to be the most satisfying. You can skill train offline so they've tried pretty hard to keep grinding to a minimum. At present the graphics engine is dated but there is a major graphics update promised in a few months. There is a free two week trial so you don't have anything to lose really.

Has anyone heard of Rappelz? It's a free one, and I think its actually quite decent. I like their system where you can pay real money for in-game items if you want to but most of the stuff you can actually buy from other players. Community seems nice enough, I mean nothing compares to CS... It's pretty solid for a free mmo and I think it's worth checking out...a decent alternative if you don't want to fall into the grasp of WoW.
I used to be addicted to RO...I think that game pretty much had everything right...nothing wrong with 2d animation so long as it's done well am I right. -
Guild Wars is really good.
I got the 3 campains and pre-ordered the expension.
The nice thing is that you won't feel like loosing your money if you only play a little and you can stop & restart when you want.
Prophecies is the longest & easiest for starters but the community is becoming anti-n00bs and is mainly populated by people who only want runs through the game and only play the last 3 missions for no reason.
Factions is hard to begin in this one.
Nightfall is the best, difficulty is progressive and everything goes well -
OMG, I so miss Planetside!!
-
ok.. so its old and takes NO special hardware cuz it has no real amazing gfx, etc...
BUT... who remembers... RAGNAROK babaay...!! crusaders.. archers.. wizards... any1? -
Like Chaz said, some great RPGs are the KotOR games.. both are quite excellent, the first being a little more light hearted, the second one being a bit darker. Both are fun, you can approach the game multiple ways, and the central story arc is fantastic, just as appealing as the movies stories.
For MMOs, there is that LotR mmo that is basically WoW with a LotR spin.. good for any lotr fans -

i like to beat a dead horse with a stick and also say guild wars

I really like Lineage II. Imo it has the best graphics/artwork of any MMO and it is an older game so should have no problems running on the new laptops out there. The grind is long and there really isn't a storyline, so if you don't like grind (this may be one of the most grindy pay to play games out there) I wouldn't really recommend it. Exploring the world is great and there is no instances which I like so it is liek a seamless land. I would have to say it has some of the most fun PvP and seige systems ever, although it depends on what you like. The economy is crazy and it uses a open market system so 'pro-farmers' have a pretty good grip on it. Plus 'bots' are very obvious both in the way they act and that there is no instances.
I didn't really like guild wars, granted I only bought factions. For some reason I couldn't get into the world being 90% instanced with no open pvp...just not really my style I guess, kinda takes the excitment and danger out of it.
Last Chaos isn't too bad...but eh...what can I say I am just too addicted to L2, have been for over 3 years...lol. -
try wow but it is incredibly addictive, but, if you want to have a real life DONT PLAY WoW! i was playing alot before the summer, but im working full time in australia right now so i cant play, and that made me realize how much of a waste of time it is...but if you want to have a great mmo experience try wow. it gets better and better the more you play it!

I've played; WoW, EQ2, RS, LotR Online, COH/V, FFXI Online, DAOC and D&D Online.
What games Best obviously is very very dependant on what you like to do, be that Fighting other players or working with other played against computers.
Firstly, PvP, what i mmorpg for, Contest between Daoc and COH/V. Daoc has better scenarios and the style of play is simply beautiful for PvP. Coh/V is just more creative, and literally takes it all the a new level, both high and Low. Personnally i favour the idea of skill being the deciding factor, thus CoH/V is the winner in my opinion, as that demands either a little bit of planning or simple talent to know what to do when can be the difference between being killed ad wiping out several opponents. What I found in CoH/V is the normal rules of, you don't have enough Hitpoints/Mana to beat more than say 3 enemies, don't apply, if you know your stuff, you can move mountains in it. The Dark Horse is WoW, if you like to spend time Working with players to get good reward then put them to gruesome use at the end, WoW could be the ticket. Equally if your very much favor PvP and don't really like PvE, I'd strongly advise Guild Wars, though, team work is the key, don't expect to go far alone.
PvE, FFXII or WoW get my vote. FFXII is more hardcore than WoW most of the time. But at the end the people in WoW make it so you have to be a hardcore player the get the best things, e.g. so many raids a week or your out of the guild, and you have to have specific talents. This i dislike because I dispise others tellnig me how to play my class, but if that doesn't bother you stick with WoW. FFXII to be honest has a plot that will blow you away, that for me makes it worth while, up to you if it's enough for you.
Word of Warning about WoW. If like me you enjoy a good plot behind your game DO NOT PLAY WOW. Warcraft players who played 1,2 & 3 all agree WoW is a big sellout, which is why i myself don't play it. Many of the great build ups in the Wacraft story line are destroyed in WoW. If you don't mind, the bosses are challenging and fun, and are enjoyable to fight. -
City of Heroes / City of Villains is excellent all-around. Playing as superhero or supervillain is way cool. Gameplay is fast, fun and entertaining, not like the slow resource buildup games. Devs provide free game updates on cyclical basis to keep game creative and fresh. Try the trial version.

I started reading the first page of this and was like "Why is no one mentioning AoC?" Then I saw it was from '05.
AoC rocks. -
Since you brought up AOC...is it forced PvP?
