I played the demo for the weekend, just bought it earlier tonight, should be able to play it tomorrow. My first new PC game in 1 year! haha FYI, I don't have L4D1.

Played a good solid 3 hours today, first game was not so great but then 2nd game I got a good team that lasted all day.
I got a ton of screen shots and videos to share.
the video work will take me some time to splice together as fraps seperates it into smaller portions but I will get it all up soon and share it.
Screen shots I can do ASAP when I get home from work.
I like the dark and gritty feel of L4D1 more than the cartoony TF2 graphics of L4D2 but by a large margin the graphic quality is much higher in L4D2 and even with the insane effects of say a hurricane rain/wind I still never went below 50 frames per second @ 5760x1200 so the game runs really well. -
Yeah, I would say the dark and gritty feel of L4D one was cooler. It's a zombie game!

I kinda like the more lit and colorful atmosphere in L4D2. It feels more authentic. Some areas still have gloomier atmospheres like inside the hotel with the fire.
I also found the French Quarter pretty damn gloomy too, it was so empty and quiet. -
Meh... Still got 1 day 13 hours to wait in the UK.
-
I bought it yesterday. And I have to say it is awesome.

You know what, after seeing your comment and playing it, I hear the resemblance too actually
Yeah your game was always full everytime I checked
As for my impressions, performance was fine even with loads of zombies and in hard rain so I think whoever had 15fps was a seperate issue. Chainsaw is fun indeed, it runs on gas and takes like a second to start it up when you switch to it but it tears zombies up! (note: don't try it on a witch
)
I've only dabbled into the various campaigns but there are some fun crescendo events now, like running on the coaster track in dark carnival, the one instance I played was not challenging at all, but I love the idea.
Finale's, I have to say I also enjoy the new Finale's, they make it feel more real now instead of always going to some area and answering a convenient radio call with someone constantly trying to call it, they mix it up like seeing a chopper flying over head, and you have to set off fireworks to draw the chopper's attention, which also draws the zombie's attention! That I particularly like because there's a reason why the zombies are rushing you. I also like the one in the mall where you have to get the gas with an endless horde, now THAT'S survival horror!
Realism mode; I recommend everyone here try out the realism mode if they haven't, especially if you like a challenge, or if you're just a masochist.
Imagine this, you're running around, your teammates don't glow with an aura that allows you to see where they are through walls or whether they've been pounced by a hunter in the middle of a horde. And not to mention there's a crap load of specials and witches in this mode, I've encountered two witches a few feet from each other. And the regular (possibly the specials too) seems to take more damage. I think if the entire team uses mic's it won't be so bad but I think even so, it'll be tough without the highlights since we're all so conditioned to seeing it and responding to it (I am anyways, I see a teammate highlighted in red, I start shooting in his/her direction to get rid of the hunter/jockey/charger) Highly recommend this mode for a new experience.
I also like how the music is different in each level, it's the same melody but different instruments.
Haven't tried scavenger mode yet but I imagine it'll be similar to the finale to the mall level.
Anyways, people playing it on steam, kindly add manwithmustache to your friends list and shoot, nay, MELEE some zombies with me

played on the 360 for a few hours with my GF last night, got through dead center and through 4th chapter of Carnival before giving up hahah Fun stuff, feels a lot like the first, but I do miss the darkness. Other than that, gameplay has been beefed up and I think it's b/c I don't know the maps well enough but a bit harder too.

Been playing a bunch, love it.
One annoyance though, been playing on my desktop pc which is way over recommended with one problem. When a tank appears I get a good amount of skipping, really makes it hard to take one out. At no other point do I get the skipping, not with a screen full of zombies or explosions or anything. When take is killed, game goes back to playing just fine.
Anyone else having that? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I do not have that problem but I have an idea of what may be the cause.
To my knowledge the only thing different about a tank attack vs all other zombies is the screen shaking, so maybe it has some kind of issue with the screen shake effect, that and the Tank music those are about the only 2 things I can think of.
Also 2nd Video is Done

Holy crap, I just realized you have the new eyefinity graphic card by ati? Is it awesome like the video people post about it? Also, do you have 3 monitors to play it on or it just on monitor you have but stretch?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
3x24" monitors here is a video taken with my digital camera so you can see them -

That was my old 2407/2408/2407 setup, I did not like how I could not color match the monitors so now I have 3x Dell U2410 IPS panels instead. Took two returns to get 3 good ones

Some of the campaigns are really long now and the finales are also a lot harder. So far for the two campaigns I have actually finished, my team has had to switch the difficulty to easy after several failed attempts on normal and advanced.
The plantation house finale was brutal on advanced, tons of infected and three tanks, two of those tanks at the same time. We finally beat it on easy after wasting about an hour trying to do it on advanced. -
So far the game's awesome.....love the new weapons (the Katana and Desert Eagle are my favs) and the new (more difficult) level design. While some of em may be especially brutal on the higher difficulty settings, it's a sure bet you're not going to be able to just cruise through em after memorizing the layout....
-
real life is crushing me... only been able to play 1 hour since release!! this weekend though, its MW2/L4D2 time... oooo yeaaaa.
-
My mustang is loaded with all my stuff for a big lanparty starting this afternoon at 1. We will be playing L4D2 all weekend long. We will be playing other stuff too but mostly L4D2. No wifes or girlfriends only great food, Drinks... and games. My buddy has a huge basement and we have the whole thing setup for network gaming. Including me we have 8 friends coming today.
GAME ON! -
sounds epic.
-
Vicious.. that is just SICKKKKK
anyway I am finding L4D2 a lot harder.. and more annoying. The pacing sucks.. anyway.. will continue =D -

I like what I've played of it so far- I was just starting to get a little tired of the campaigns in L4D1, so this is a welcome refresh.
A question though- I can't remember what campaign or level it was (the name), but there was something where you had to run a case of soda across some area to some guy?!
It was so chaotic I didn't even hear why it had to be done. What was that all about anyway?
-
manwithmustache Notebook Evangelist
I think that was Dead Center, the gun shop owner was bunkered in but he forgot to pack some soda and made a deal with the survivors that if they brought him some soda then he would blow up I forgot what it was that was blocking you from the mall, yeah it was kind of silly but a nice excuse for a mobile crescendo event -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
he blew up the tanker that was blocking the path but i have to say of all of them my faves are.... well all of them
hard rain is intense
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
oh yah that was insane haha i kept dying -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
On the Sugar Mill level is did about 10,000 damage to witches.
-
So I just finished the dark carnival today on advance and it was pretty awesome. Did the dead center on expert yesterday and finished that, but dark carnival has some cool moments. Also, the rock concert battle at the end was tough and we did not know that you can shoot the fireworks, until we accidentally did it. O and those clown zombies always making a noise and alerting the horde with its shoes...

The campaigns are quite long now, especially if played on Advanced or Expert. One a day is good enough for me to get my L4D fix. I haven't even attempted Versus which is sure to be twice as long.
-
The maps are definitely larger than the old ones. My friends and I have managed it on Advanced with confidence. Expert is a bit more exhausting. I start to run out of ammo more often compared to L4D1. Anyone else noticing this?
-
thats why we have meelee weapons. lol. play realism!! without military style communication you wont survive one round. lol.
-
The melee weapons have made people a bit reckless. With people moving in and out of melee range of the zombies, it makes it more difficult to get a clear shot to assist.
Edit:
I personally don't bother with the melee weapons. Shotguns are still the way to go. -
the whole game is just made harder. takes a bit getting use to if your a hardcore l4d1 playa. I love melee weapons. They are a must have on realism. Since you cant see other player outlines, you want to save the ammo for the gun with the laser sight so in case of an emergency you can see where other players are aiming. In realism, melee weapons are a must have. In other modes, they still kick . 2 good swipes with an axe and the witch is down. Chainsaw can destroy the tank in 3 seconds!!!
-
hahah 3 second chainsaw kills a tank? lololol
-
Sure takes longer than that on expert.
BTW, here is a list of weapons stats compiled so far. It confirms my initial thoughts so far.
The Benelli Autoshotgun is still the weapon to carry. The combination of close range punch and rate of fire is unmatched by any other weapon, including the melee weapons.
And the Assault Rifles are still the weakest weapons on Expert. They seriously need to up the ammo of the assault rifles.

I always use the AK and Magnum combo.

been playing some more versus over the weekend, crap loads of fun if you have a good team, I love the new specials, they have a good place on the team. And it's just more fun to mix up the horde team instead of just someone getting hunter half the time.
Edit: btw, does anyone know how to get the achievements for being stronger than moustachio? -
Either melee + ranged weapon combination or shotgun + pistol. I also have a lot of fun with the grenade launcher... I always grab it unless my team doesn't know how to deny boomer spawns (shoot them before they puke). My only issues with the game are technical ones... charger can usually leave a survivor stuck in an object, and infected collision hitboxes still need to be fixed. I always go through survivors whenever I charge or pounce or jockey' them without actually hitting them. Theres also a lot of cheap kills for the infected team, such as charging out windows in Dead Center 1.
-
Moustachio is the one where you test strength right? Hit it while on Adrenaline I believe does the trick.
Who is excited for L4D2!?!?
