Haha fair enough. I play CoD and games like that, but I just get angry when I play those, so I was looking for something else to just relax and play and so far WoW is doing an alright job.

Yea it seems like when you just start it is very relaxing and fun, but when you cap and then you have pressure to get better gear, you may want to stop but you can't because its so much fun and then you are so addicted you end up playing as much as 4 hours or more each day just of wow. It is just as heroine takes over your life, you start thinking "oh this is nice im high how fun" but then it becomes a massive burden spending craploads of cash(time) on the drug, and wasting your life away. All said, it is up to you. I just want to get my opinion out because it really is bad.

I got slightly hooked for about 2 months but found that I don't do endgame raiding etc, just mainly PVP and when LFD came along that helped me play for just short spurts as well as queuing for BG's. I haven't played since April but I'll be playing when cataclysm comes out.

So is there anyway to change the realm a character is on? I made one in the new players realm, will I be able to find decent players to play with? Or can I move my character to another one?

Wow that is a lot just to change realm. I don't think I will be doing that anytime soon. Unless you think it would be worth while to change out of the newbie realm.

Popular kids in schools these days plays shooters, eh? What happened to physical sports! Man I'm feeling old.

If you want to play on a newbie realm, then just create a new character on the new realm and abandon your current character. I guarantee that the time you've already put into your current character is next to nothing and won't compared to how much you will put in. Plus, it's also fun to roll a new race/class. So much fun in fact, you'll be doing it many times over...

I'd go Shaman for your next, tons of fun especially if you spec elemental. Cataclysm is making the elemental mastery REALLY good from what i've read.

    I think it's USD$15 a month?

If you're in the UK, £8.99 a month, £25.17 for 3 months and £46.14 for six months :p

I should consider playing this again from scratch... Though I'd need to find someone to play with :(

I'd wait for GW2 if you have been playing Asian MMOs.

WoW graphics are very cartoonie, childish. The skills etc are extremely boring. When a warrior for example does any skill, it looks no different than just basic melee. A shadowpriest when casting mind blast looks the same as mage casting a fire bolt which looks the same as warlock casting shadow bolt. Doesn't matter what a moonkin casts, it all looks the same.

Just saying, if you are used to play Asian MMOs, you may want to wait for GW2. GW2 should provide the same level of attention to detail and polish as WoW but with Asian style.

Oh and GW2 will be you pay for the game, no monthly fees. It's by far the cheapest MMO, even F2P MMOs are more expensive with item malls.

Can't wait for Diablo 3, WoW is kind of repetitive to me now, Farm mats, run bg, do arena, do raids and get gear (if specific gear don't drop, wait reset and try again) over and over, farm mats, collect gold, get mount, buy gear

People might play it for story or for a few times, but once you beat it, you just run it everyweek over and over and over until you get gear, hangout in IF/SW/Org, showing off gear, rinse repeat on nxt expansion etc..

If WoW was a single player offline game, nobody would play it for the story alone. REAL TALK

Truth be told, every game is somewhat repetitive. I don't see how D3 is not repetitive in comparison with WoW.

The real question is - how many hours have you spent on WoW before it finally became boring/repetitive?
How does this compare to any other game you've played?

Having a good time so far! I got level 81 on my Druid just off herbs! Made 20k in the AH because while others were questing I was herbing and selling herbs. Made about 10k off the mining when I decided to level some, set for money for a bit :)

Elemental shammy is definetly fun, more fun than before even thanks to the mastery after I got lots of gear that adds points to it. End of mount Hyjal was fun, got to take on an old boss from way back. Won't say the name as it could be considered a spoiler for those who haven't gotten that far.

Minute I hit 85 gonna make my Goblin, or maybe Worgen. I was told about the Worgen "Even if u don't plan on leveling one all the way try them out, the starter zone is the best out of all of them".

    Anyone else having fun?

I dunno if I can give my soul back to WoW, one thing for sure if I start playing again basically all other games go out the window.

I am too competitive for games like this, have to get the items I want, the lvl I want etc. Plus having to find time in real life to go raiding and stuff is so hard with my random schedule.

I actually did try that already, but thanks for the tip. It turns out that there are some texture files that are included in one of the expansions that are loaded whenever I enter the Desolace. I did some google searching and I'm not the only one with this problem. I guess I just have to wait for a patch. :\

One thing to understand about a game like WoW is that its 3 games (maybe even 4) in one:
    - The Leveling Part: A solo or co-op kinda experience. With the occasional 5 man experience in the mix.
    - The EndGame PvE: A group of 10/25 experience.
    - The EndGame PvP: A sorta fps battleground or small team vs match experience.
    - The Dicking Around: Playing with the auction house, doing achievements, etc. (this one is sorta joined in the the leveling part)

As someone who has played since Dec 2004, I basically started over due to the total revamp of 1-60 content. I also picked up every secondary skill (Arch, Fishing, cooking).

I know whether I rush or take my time, 81-85 content will sitting there waiting for me. I basically want to take my time and see and do everything in its entirety so I'll do Loremaster.

The changes to many regions, alliance side, are pretty drastic. I did Loremaster of Eastern Kingdoms already (which took me to 60 easily). Doing Outlands now, then going to switch back to do the other content 1-60 content @ 70 with epic flying for brevity. ;) THEN do WotlK and finally step into Cata content prolly mid January.

So far, Badlands gets top honors Alliance side for Eastern Realms and quests.

81 Worgen Rogue on Kilrogg... The new zones are really cool. The quests seem pretty easy and the instances are going strong. Just upgraded both my daggers last night doing 2 of the new instances I discovered.

Making gold is cake - especially in cataclysm, so don't worry.

For example, mining/prospecting through jewelcrafting made me about 4kg/hr+ in gems/elements.

Mining and Herbing now give XP which is quite nice but it's not something you wanna level with unless you have extreme patience.

    --

So far, I really like the holy paladin. They made it very versatile adding two AoE heals and the use of various heals depending on the situation.

There's still some balance to be done.

The most powerful healers are paladins and druids. Shamans/priest seem to be really crappy since they run out of mana healing in less than 60 seconds.

Mages seem extremely powerful (15-20k icelances) and if you get stunned with no trinket, it's death. Feral cats also destroy nearly everything (with bleeds that tick for 15% of your life). Finally in the top 3 most powerful in PVP list is the shadow priest, which can kill you in a fear if you're not careful.

Tanks have 130k hp. Average for healers/dps is 90k~ from the looks of it.

So far, I'd still rank BC better, but Cata better than Wrath if we're talking about new zones/instances/raids. As for classes and specs, Cata is very close to balance perfection. Five specs needs to be slightly adjusted (2 heal specs and 3 dps specs) but besides that, everyone seems to be doing well. Rated BG's have started, making cata better than BC/Wrath if we're talking pvp since Cata has a larger variety of pvp content.

Best part about PVP is you can recycle your old lv85 PVP gear once a new season comes out and have some sort of exchange/credit towards your new set, meaning you don't have to refarm honour every season like a madman. That right there is a huge time saver.

At least we don't have a vehicle BG this time around. New WSG map instead is very nice.

Hows the Warlock doing these days? That was my favorite class after doing a lvl 70 Hunter & Rouge I went Warlock and enjoyed it by far the most.

Made me quit when they started doing terrible nerfs and taking the fun out of the class like making certain demons no able to be enslaved anymore.

Soul Shard gathering/hunting was never too fun either but acceptable.

Warlock is the #1 DPS in raids (at least for my server first guild) atm. They're also above average in PVP (but not overpowerd - they're just perfect). Locks I spoke to are very satisfied with their class.

    Rogue/Hunter are average.

Yeah I loved my DPS and DPS options in raids, Curse of Doom, some CoS and shadow bolts with mass crit dmg.

Though I loved to play with other random options, like I used to go demonology sacrifice the succubus for the sac bonus, then use my goblin jumper cables and revive her and have both the sac bonus and the pet bonus.

I could go around and enslave random unique demons and just do all sorts of random and interesting things.

When I quit playing though many of the fun and versitile things the Warlock could do was being patched :/

I remember the days when everyone used to sit in Stormwind/UC reading the auction channels... and you could pick up every skill so we all maxed out blacksmithing, leatherworking, tailoring, etc. The Barrens were literally bare (of quests), and Horde had to grind mobs to gain levels. And how we all used to camp Scarlet Monastery since the cap was level 40... but we'd horde quest items waiting for them to raise the level cap so we can turn them all in ASAP.... nostalgia!

People are specing fire for instances/heroics and frost for PVP atm :)

    @smalss
Feral seems like the best tank right now in 5-man dungeons (I've been avoiding raiding b/c it's too time consuming).

    I'd rate them:

Warrior is doing very good in the DPS department.

Feral > Prot Pally > Warrior >DK (worst tank in the game)

The first three are close, but the DK is trash/unhealable in 5 mans with comparable gear.

    --

For those who enjoy PVP as much as I do, it's mostly balanced and offers variety. Rated BG's and arena just started yesterday too. Although I hate arena, I will be doing rated BG's ^_^. The recycling gear system is attractive for casuals like myself.

    this^

gear is everything. most players are geared to the hilt. many of them dont want someone who has crappy gear if they are raiding. i speak from experience. ill say it again if you missed it. when you reach 60 most players raiding wont want you if they are raiding because of your gear. along time ago this wasnt the case. lots of players needed gear. now, hardly any at all.
the game is not newbie friendly anymore.

I just bought it and so far I have been having a good time with it. Though I liked Guild wars better, I did most everything in that game. Wow is still good IMO.

I just got my friend in on this a week ago and we're doing triple EXP from refer a friend. It's been great, I'm trying to power level him through to 60. This way I can get an alt made too for whatever reason.. he's leveling a dps warrior and he's enjoying it.. we got him a shadow priest up to level 52 before he changed classes lol, that was done in 1.5days /played and I a lvl 52 rogue in the same time. Triple EXP + Dungeon finder is sick... now re-leveling as a holy pally with his warrior and we're tearing stuff up again. so yeah! awesome info in this thread though.

Someone mentioned DPS warrior above but the answer was more about tanks.. how viable is end-game DPS Warrior?? My 85DK is doing pretty awesome DPS at the moment though.

DPS warriors are very viable in PVE atm. They're also overpowered in PVP (along with frost mages and ferals), so it's a win/win :)

It's so easy to level up characters these days too.
