Hey is it ok if the screen flickers right when you change the voltage?
-
-
That's right, it's due to the fact that stock clocks for the reference card are 470/470 (with GDDR3), so almost every X1600 is underclocked (my X1600: 400/380). It could go as far as 530MHz on the core on some laptops, and it benefits a lot from higher clocks. Under this aspect, it behaves quite differently from Go 7600s, which gain a lot less power from OC.
Obviously, the clock increase in memories has even better effects in real world performance, because it increases the bandwidth, which is one of the weak points of 128bit cards: it should make easier play with filters.
-
ok from what i have read throughout this thread i believe i have achieved the highest clock with my x1600
Clock-570
Mem-540
with a 3dmark05 score of 3984
how would i be able to find out whether my memory bus is 64 or 128?
thanks -
The acer aspire 5670 series has 64-bit bus width, but you overclocked your card enough to have it equal to the 128-bit version.
If you want to check for yourself, download the everest pro trial. -
ok cool thanks. maybe i should do that.
-
I may also recommend you lower those clocks to the default, or at the most 470/470. Those clocks seem like they are very high and could very likely ruin your gpu.
-
yeah i only overclocked to get that score with 3dmark05. i meant to put the clocks for the max not for gaming in my sig. lol i haven't played a game for a while that was real graphic intensive so i usually just do the default clocks for games. and when i'm not playing games i lower it to 135/135. for heat/battery.
-
ok i wanna know why my memory is clocked so high on stock settings.
core:445Mhz
mem:495Mhz -
oh and i dont have that laptop yet its in the mail. i have a Travelmate 8204WLMi

I wish I could overclock the memory on my X1600 to 470mhz like regular X1600's.
-
wait, are you talking about the area 51 in your sig? or your travelmate?
if travelmate then the travelmate might just have different default clock speeds than others. I know a lot of different laptops with the x1600 have different clock speeds.
and as for the area 51 if it is the case, theres an x1900 thats why. -
Why can't you do that on yours?
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Because it uses GDDR2 rather than the faster GDDR3 memory. -
I have the Lg S1 (2.16c2d, 2gig, x1600 w/ 512) and someone earlier was asking about underclocking and battery life. I normally get around 2hr30min at stock settings (425/475) but when lowered to 175/189 I can get up to 3hr15min on the 6-cell battery. So...just enough to cover 3 lectures. This is at lowest screen brightness, no sound, and I find that the wireless connection only affects it by about 5-10 minutes on the whole. So I guess with significant underclocking you can get about an extra half hour or so.
Thats with ATI Tray Tools...however sometimes after hibernating I get nothing but a black screen and requires a reboot so I don't know whats up with that.
I just started looking at undervolting cpu but that looks a little more riske and complicated...and apparently you can't undervolt the C2D much anyway?
And finally I can't believe the 9-cell battery costs $295 Canadian (and that's before taxes). -
I currently own a HP nx9420 (T7200, 1GB memory, X1600 256MB, XP PRO) and at default settings 425 core, 387 memory I get 2018 in 3DMark06 and at 500/400 I get 2090 points.
-
520/410 = 2177 3Dmark06 points. Will try ant see what kind of ddr memory my card has.

The way I found out what memory my X1600 had was to open up my notebook, remove the heatsink, and look at the memory modules.
They have the manufacturer and model number on each of them in tiny white letters.
But a sure way to know if it was GDDR2 or GDDR3 would be to see if your stock clocks are higher than 450 or so. -
ok i am currently typing on my Travelmate 8402WLMI and the core clock on my X1600 is 446Mhz and the memory is at 495Mhz. wtf mate isnt that kinda high for a mobile video card? i mean if an x1600 can get that high then i assume when i get my new alienware i can overclock my x1900 to like 500core 550 or even 600 mem
-
On my nx9420 I cant change the memory settings. Up or down, I just get a black screen and my pc freezes.
Using ATI Tool 0.25 beta 14 -
I use nx9420 with Vista.
I use Ati tray tools beta for Vista and can overclock to 570/477 getting 4800 3dmark05, and 2200 3dmark06.
Ati tool doesn't work well with vista.

Wow, wouldn't it be easier to download a utility program like Everest? That will give you all the system information you need without performing surgery on the notebook.
Hey ikovak, that's a pretty high GPU clock for a x1600. How's the heat with that setting? So far, I've found the best compromise of stability and performance for my rig to be in the 485/485 range. -
I've overclocked the X1600 in my Asus S96J up to 529/446, with a 3DMark05 result of 4681.

Nice OC, ill try those clocks some time. -
An update: 565/450 MHz, artifact-free
(screenshot)
Also please note that these clocks were achieved when the laptop was open (I disassembled the bottom case cover). I did not watch the CPU temps, but it didn't even reach 75ºC during the test. -
Warwizard, would that be for the GDDR3 or GDDR2?
ASUS Z96Js
x1600 425/375
T2500
1GB DDR2 -
With clocks like that, Warwizard must be running GDDR3. I am curious about what OC utility he's using though.
-
It's GDDR2, and I'm using ATITool.
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Odd, because I'm afraid to go much past 400mhz with the GDDR2.
Right now I am at 499/399. -
You're afraid to go past 400 but you are already at 499? That makes sense.
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
"499/399" I always treat the first clock as the GPU Core clock and the second clock as the memory clock just like everyone else.
Therefore
GPU Core Clock = 499mhz
GPU Memory Clock = 399mhz -
lol 450, 418 is what I call "OC"
Stock 426/378. When I eventually start a game on Oblivion (2 months and counting!) I may experiment with a higher OC, but only trying stock vs current OC first, of course
-
I use an overclock of 540/480 for gamin and an underclock of 220/180 for anything else. Use ati tool tray to automatically clock it for me, and my theory is this method should even out the overall stress.
-
Finally found a compromise of 480/420
I tried going to 499/399 like usa but my laptop did not like that. Errors abound! I have narrowed it down to going above 490, so I am sticking with 480/420. That's me getting out of the OC game. Now to join the UC game
-
thx for all your exp..quite useful,
,i overclock to 475/535,,in that i think it can mitigate the bottleneck of the memory bandwidth
