I've been considering getting a 360, is it really worth it at this time?
I've played GoW single player before and had a blast...I hear it's a riot online.
What else is there worth the time on it? Looking for a deep RPG with good graphics (already got Oblivion on PC). Is Project Gotham good?

Was also thinking a PS3 instead, but I really don't see any titles that will interest me that are out right now. I can always buy this thing later if the game situation changes.

as of now, microsoft haven't been able to fix the issues surrounding the xbox 360.

havent you hear about xbox360 overheating issue?

apparently there are many other issue. go check the wikipedia entry on xbox 360 and scroll down to technical problems.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360

apparently PS3 does not suffer as much technical problems

    cough PS3 cough : )

.... I'd say 360 if you want to play a lot online like Halo multiplayer or if your computer can't handle the newer games and wait until it's released with an hdmi port, sometime in september

look at the list from upcoming games for PS3 there's at least one game every week. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html

yes the 360 is cheaper, but think this, the ps3 has a blu-ray already installed and you have to buy the hd-dvd seperately

    sooo ... get a Wii :D

I have an xbox 360, its a BLAST. and about its problems, I haven't had any problems with my 360 since I bought it 2 years ago. Also, MS extended its warranty to 3 years, they'd even pay for 2-way shipping ! Therefore, if you are considering buying it, don't get fooled in to buy the extended warranty as MS 3 years warranty is good enough.
My friend has PS3 and I played it, IMO, I liked my 360 more since it has a better variety of games.

    Just my thoughts....

I'd say go with the 360. The holiday lineup is killer, the Premium with HDMI is already out NOW, the newer have a redesigned heat sink that takes care of the over heating. All in all it is a good time to be a 360 owner.

u need to pay for subscribtion to play online for xbox360 and pc/xbox mixed environment could only mean trouble and unfairness.

in ps3 there are no such subscribtion is Free!

too bad i wont be getting it anytime soon though. i only want to play metal gear solid 3 then granturismo, the other are i'm not really must have things... cant see spending much on something that i only want to play 1-2 games for..

The Xbox 360 is pretty cool. I have one and it's a blast to play NHL07 and GoW.
My friend has a PS3 and it's also a blast to play on. I noticed a few things though. The PS3 really really needs an HD set to play on as all the fonts are unreadable on a standard TV but looks awsome on a HD set. The 360 isn't so bad at this. The loading times on the 360 are shorter and less frequent than the PS3.

Which ever system you get make sure you have a Kick ass TV and Sound system to match or you're not getting the full experience. Without the TV and sound you're back to plain Xbox and PS2 effects.

On a side note. We have people with like $2000 PCs on this forum why not get both the PS3 and the 360 and a less powerful PC. You'd end up not spending as much to keep up with the powerful video cards. I'll probably get a PS3 when some good games catch me eye and they bundle it with the system(usually at christmas time).

    You see

I have an Xbox360 and my brother have a PS3

And I can tell you that my brother is really really jealous of me

ALso I have about +35 games (I dont know how much exactly) most of them are great games (GOW,Bioshock,The darkness,...)

While my bro have less than 10 games most of them are bad (like motorstorm (bad game),Ninja gaiden (he sold it before finishing it)....etc)

I can tell you this....right now x360 is much much better than the PS3 in games and online stuff

But sadly the build quality is not better (I got 3 red light on the 1st console and an HDD faliure on the second....yes 2 CONSOLES)

But you know A CONSOLE WITH NO GAMES.....IS NOT WORTH IT

My advice is to wait until microsoft releases the new modified X360 with the new processor which will fix many problems in the current version

    Plus an hdmi port

BUT IN THE END Xbox360 REALLY REALLY WORTH IT....

    Better than my nVIDIA 8600m-GT

I have a 360, and while i never play it, i think it is a better system. Its hooked up to an OLD Proscan that will no die (But once it does can anyone say 50" plasma+new surround sound?) and it still looks better that the wii or regular xbox. I am thinking about getting a PS3 (shame on me) to put linux on and as a multimedia server, but with the directv blade comming out for the 360, im not sure

Do you like paying $60-$110yr for online that offers nothing but problems, and brings NOTHING new? Do you want to send in your new console every few months due to it being built poorly? Do you want to play games that are on average 4-5 hours long til you beat them? Then get an Xbox360.

(GOW was fun, but the extra 5 chapters for the PC version should be enough to make Xbox fanboys cry.)

Now on to the PS3. Do you want free online play, and the ability to use user created MODs with your games? Do you want a fully functional HD media center? Do you want killzone and MGS or halo?

About the games... I think what your all forgetting is that the xbox360 has been out for almost 2 years now, the PS3 hasn't even been given it's first year.

Ahmed_p800, if you think motorstorm is a bad game, then you've NEVER played it. I have NEVER seen someone who's actually played it say that, EVER, and that's about 30 people..

I say just screw em both, buy your desktop an 8800GTS for $279.99 and play PC games!

I've own 2 xbox 360's before (one got stolen) and my friend has another one and I have never experienced the ring of death. The games are pretty good and this holiday season's lineup is awesome. Graphics are better on almost every platform game compared to the ps3. Just for example Madden is 60fps on the 360 and only 30 on the ps3. There is no reason right now to pay more money to get a ps3. You are paying alot of money mainly for the blu-ray player and blu-ray may still lose the format war.

Check out Mass Effect, it's from the makers of KOTOR and will be out in November. It is almost reason enough to buy a 360. I've had one since March of 06 and haven't had any problems.

I dont have any reason to lie about that....belive it or not

The game only have one mode to play.....WTF!!!

The graphics is not the BEST...(I have an HD TV)

Nothing new in it....just play everything over and over again

Very looong loading I dont know why...

And if you think Im an Xbox360 fan....keep in you mind I had PS1 & PS2 before, And i never bought an Xbox 1 before not Once

Also I sold the game (Motor storm) after less than 1 week....

And Im really sad that sony released the PS3 without Strong games.

Right now our PS3 is Safe in my closet (yeah right) until the good games come out

(Note : if you want anything from me to prove to you that i played the game...JUST ASK)

How would you pay 110$ for online a year? I payed 50$ and thats it. I have never sent in my 360 and I have had it for like 2 years. 4-5 hours single player maybe.. 100 multiplayer at least. I do want free online play yes, I dont want crappy lag all the time though ;). No I dont really care about a full HD center or whatever, just games. I'd defintly say Halo, but you also forgot about all the other 360 games (The Darkness, Shadowrun, GoW, etc...) Well PS3 at least has Assassins Creed.... Oh wait 360 has that to.

Get whatever systems has the exclusives that you want to play.

I really hate system fanboys, like a couple people in this thread. If you see yourself playing the games on 360 buy that system, if you are more excited about ps3 games get a ps3.

Ive said it many times and i iwll say it again:

I like good games, not systems or companies.

Well I own both the PS3 and the 360. Both are good systems, and by the way those screen shot comparisons are terrible. Almost every game on both systems came out around the sametime, while one system had longer for developers to really learn it.

Anyways, the 360 is a solid system, but it is full of it's own problems, and plenty of them. You might get lucky end up with a good one, or you might not. If you were going to buy a 360, I would wait a bit longer.

The PS3, well if it has any problems I've never run into them. The PS3 can almost work as a secondary computer, yeah it doesn't have too many games out right now, and whether they are good or not is opinion. I like most of the games out for it, and am excited about many of the games coming out. I also enjoy Blu-ray a bit as well, so it's all about what you want really.

If you want to go head to head for price versus use, the 360 is actually more expensive. What is it now 420$ for the elite to get HDMI and a larger HDD, plus another 150$ for the HDDVD player. Already gone past the PS3 price point. Another 30$ for the wireless adapater. That and you can't use a mouse/keyboard at all.

As a true gamer.....you would own both, plus a Wii I guess. Don't even get me started about the Wii though.....And I assume you already have a PC, that's the most important one to have :)

Buy the 360, and buy it from dell.com and beg someone here for their 15% off electronics and accessories coupon, and then use Paypal to pay because Dell.com gives 10% off when using Paypal, and buy the Elite edition with its 120 gig HD and HDMI and you'll be all set for cheap.

You know....I'm sick of people asking which console to get. I will tell you a simple way to pick a console.

    1. Which console has the games you want to play?

All three consoles have great games, but each person has their taste...and therefore will like Console A better than Console B. The first thing to do is check all the AAA titles for each console, such as Halo for the xbox, Nintendo published games like Mario, games like MGS4, Killzone, Resistance for PS3. However, it's important to know the UPCOMING and in development games as well. I, myself, have decided already to buy a PS3 or Wii based on the games...I don't want an xbox 360 for several reasons...but the main reason is that the only game I would buy is Halo 3. I am not paying 60 bucks to play a game online when I, the player, am hosting the servers anyway.

    2. The extra features

You need to research and see what you like about all 3 consoles and what you dislike. With the Wii, you get great games that are truly interactive....such as WiiSports....The motion sensitive controllers are truly fun to play with, but some may not like it. With the xbox 360 you get a large library of games (if you like them that is; I don't) and Halo 3. Gears of War isn't so special anymore since it's coming out for PC...and will be better. Then, with the PS3....for ~$150 more than the xbox 360....you get Blu-Ray, Bluetooth Controllers + Headsets, free online, and a promising barrage of games coming towards the end of this year and into 2008.

Seriously, $110 is way off the charts, I paid $32 for a 13 month subscription card, and the Live service is way better than any other console offering at the moment, and probably for a long time too.

I'd say get a next-gen console if you have an HDTV, and if you have friends who want to come over and game with you. Or if you want to game using a controller on the couch with minimum fuss.

As for the Xbox 360 vs. PS3 debate: Get both if you can afford it. I've had a red-ringed 360, but I still love the console to bits.. And I will definitely get a PS3 somewhere down the track, Gran Turismo and Singstar are just too alluring!

I have to wait until Monday to get my Xbox back from repair, and then I can finally play BIOSHOCK!

xbox live is the best online gane system available. Its $60 a year for you to play every game you own online with other people without problems. I have Never had a single rpoblem with xbox live so you obviously don;t know what youre talking about
also on xbox live you can download full hd movies from a library of over 250 titles with new ones added every week. You can download xboxlive arceade games which are amazing. I donlt see this on the ps3

Have you ever used free online play on your ps3? It blows compared to xbox live. you lack half the features

In the first year of the xbox 360 it had enough titles out that were fun to be a good system. The ps3 has none at all.

Btw I played motorstorm at walmart and in five minutes I was completely bored and went to play dirt on my 360. The 360 is far superior to the ps3 and is overall a better system.

Also, the xbox360 is a full medai canter aswell. I have mine linked to my computer and I can watch any movie or listen to any song from my computer including those that I buy on itunes.

the ps3 is no fun compared to the 360.

If you want something for gaming buy a 360 if you cry because your best mate can watch high definition movies buy a ps3.
A real console gamer would always buy the 360 because it's titles are better, it's upcoming titles are better, it's online is better and it's far cheaper.
Many people (sony fanboy's) believe that you should buy a ps3 because it's potential is far better. They base this on the evidence that sony will one day get the most out of blu ray and the ps3's games will be far superior to those of the 360. As anyone with common sense will be able to see they base this conclusion on absolutely no evidence. Besides you buy a games console for now, not for 3 years time!
And if you are buying a console for now no-one in the world can debate the 360 is as gooder quality and far better value.
(or you could always buy a wii - but only if you are a child or are really drunk everytime you play on games)

Not really poor, just anyone who can't or won't buy a $1500 PC just for a good gaming experience. Besides, even with good hardware, there's malware, driver issues, bugs, and other issues causing wild or poor performance. With a Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, you get 720p or higher, and a smooth framerate almost all of the time.

want a console get a core 360 (if you simply want to game) or a premium (if you want to store videos and demos + get all the great extras) if you definitely feel you need to store loads of videos and demos you could get the elite, but personally i wouldn't...

I bought 360 last night with Forza Motorsport 2 and Guitar Hero II. Really I only bought it for guitar hero which is awesome but I think I'm going to return the system tonight. For some reason its way more fun at my buddies house but when I bought it, it just didn't live up to expectations.

I don't really know what you can expect when you've only brought two games...
If the only game you played at your buddies house was guitar hero 2 of course it won't be as much fun, because you were playing it with your buddie. Guitar hero is one of those games that is far more fun playing with someone else than on your own!
If i were you i'd trade in the games not the console, the games might not have been to your taste, remember the console can be the greatest thing ever but if the only game you have for it is 'Barbie's wonderland adventures' then no, your not going to enjoy it!

I was an original owner and I've never gotten that "Ring of Death."

Regardless, Microsoft has set aside quite a pile of cash specifically for XBOX360 repairs. So even if you do end up with a defective box, they will ship/repair free of charge.

The new heatsinks have been added to the Premium models. In any case, the black color on the Elite would heat up the thing. Wait for the new ones with the cooler chips.

I own a new 360 premium with the HDMI port. It also has a BenQ drive and the added heatsink. I runs very quiet compared to the one it replaced (a 2005 model w/ a hitachi drive). It also runs quite a bit cooler, as in, the exhaust fans aren't running full blast even during long gaming sessions.

The 65nm CPU is NOT worth waiting for. The main problem with overheating has been because the 90nm GPU did not get enough cooling and would cause all sorts of problems. The added heatsink in July 2007 and later consoles (and repaired ones) takes care of this problem. I highly recommend picking up an HDMI Premium 360. :)

I've been playing GoW online since Nov and I don't seem to get tired of it. The fun part is finding someone you dislike, telling him you're going to chainsaw him, and then actually doing it...haha. It's more manageable since it's only 4 on 4. You can coordinate teams easily and you can target particular skilled players on the other team.

Unfortunately, my 360 just experienced the RED RING OF DEATH!!!! MS is very good about it though. They will send me a box with paid shipping, and I only have to put it in the box and ship it with UPS. Good deal. I hope they replace it with a new system completely.

I'm an original 360 owner, receiving mine in December of the initial launch. I'm sure the newer models are solid. Even then, my 360 lasted almost 2 years before this problem popped up. Warning signs included a black screen, a few frozen screens, and then the consistent red rings in 3 of the 4 slots.

In the end, the 360 is the best all around console in the market today, and it's worth the money. Check out the titles and see what you like there. Bioshock just came out for the 360 and you won't have to worry about compatibility like you do for the PC. Mass Effect due out very soon too.
