I'd gladly hire some NBR folks. Until my life turned upside down four years ago or so, I was on track to retire early and do just that. But things changed and now I'd have to win a lot of money to put me back on track. Still something I'd like to pursue given the chance. But real life and money (or lack thereof) seem to keep getting in the way.

Keep talking...and remember, it will be one of us who ends up deciding which home to put you in when you hit the golden age.
So, do you want one with, or without an XBox?

Lol, most of the high school students I have met working on contracts probably won't live long enough to see me reach the age of going to live in a "home".
Most are having trouble spelling "home".
Others are very likely to win Darwin awards long before I need to worry about arthritis.
As for me, if my grandpa and dad are any indication, (dad plays ice hockey with 18 year olds... he's closing in on 70... did I mention he's a goalie?) I will die at my own home in my 90s, in my own bed, doing the nasty with a woman half my age.
I plan on going out with a bang.

One of my best memories from college was building my AMD Athlon 64 rig with a 6800gt video card and firing up Half Life 2 for the first time. It was just as awesome as I had anticipated it to be and from there there was really no going back. I have built my own desktops since then and still love building my own computers, but laptops is something that I have enjoyed more recently because of my relationship with my girlfriend the last 5 years I have pretty much stayed with her, and I found having a mobile solution to be the most advantageous because if you ever got in an argument I could take it with me and we could have time off. I really don't need one quite as much anymore but I feel like I need to have one with me regardless now because I am so used to it.

Wait what?!? What happened to your dream of moving to Hawaii and flying there a small Cessna/Piper as an air taxi. I was kinda set to that

I said my *GEEKY* dream job... My aviation dream job and next step up dream job would be the Hawaii thing. But I've been grounded for almost 8 years now, haven't stepped in an airplane even, I'd have to start all over basically.
But if you are game, we can go into business together!
Awesome! Lol. I love it AIR great acronym. You haven't gamed, until you've gamed in AIR. And you can have the GamAIR platinum club members too.
We've got the marketing going, now all we need is a million bucks!

LOL, yes I did just fine myself, heck I did marry an I.T/I.S/ P.Eng although oddly he can make video games and tweak game engines but very rarely plays a single game unless its with the kids ..... actually I should tell him to get his amusing self online and say hi again, I just saw he hasn't logged in here in a few months
Sounds like you didn't have just a Diva but the infamous drama queen / psycho!. come on if she liked both, may as well share at least for you.
ahhhhhhh performers, IMO a special category of whiny manipulative ones and I come across them frequently in the 20-30 crowd nowadays
this sounds WAYYYYYY too familiar as well. -
Wait what? Who's your hubby? What's his username?

Ha! Just installed a Q6700 in a Dell XPS 410 desktop for a friend. He already had a gtx 260 and upgraded psu. Previously he was running an E4400. It was totally bottlenecking the gpu. Runs pretty good for what he wants it for. It was getting 15fps in MWO at lowest resolution and settings. Same for highest res and low settings. Now it is playable at 1080p medium settings. A stronger graphics card would help. The cpu isn't maxed.
I know it's a little off topic. Just the old tech amazes me sometimes.

Awww I miss the arcades. We had a big one in town but it closed like 10 years ago. It was expensive but so much fun to hang out with your friends there.
-
Old tech is the best, you can mod it and mess with it more. if you want fun build yourself a MAME unit built off of a P3 1ghz and a Matrox Millennium GPU and some custom mechanical switches and a keyboard emulator or ATtiny
Nice to see some old faces again everyone. -
You expect me to remember THAT far back!?

Oh man! How could I have missed that thread?!
The stories I could tell would have you all run screaming to the closest monastery (or convent).

Yes yes yes, it's always some silly excuses with you. Just do it already! -
Nah that's his normal tactics, he is the best for bringing random humor to everyone and keeps me sane when I get focused on a long editing project. -
no she just chained me to a wall and beat me with a stick
OK just kidding, shes actually pretty mellow and laid back, unless you take away her new laptops or try to steal her food -

As a 50something, I appreciate the exercise in creative vocabulary and grammar when telling a 13 year old to [<----------------redacted--------------->] himself.
-
KP, good to see you again.
Vogelbung, I find for most of them stick with low syllabic count and attempt to use mindless slang terms to emphasize certain points.
Including how bad grammar, atrocious spelling on their resume is a bad impression. showing up to drop off said resume looking like some sort of extra from an MTV music video shoot with bloodshot eyes and the conversational abilities of my elderly dog is not going to convince me to " hook a brotha up with a sweet gig workin for a tech shop so I can hone up my skills on replacing iPad screens and chattin up the cats to maybe get some action from the hotties "
wow, I can train my 8 year old to replace iPad screens, ok to be honest I have done that. maybe set your sights a little higher and try reading a few books and go back to grade 4 spelling.

I've been enjoying this thread quite a bit. I'm only 31 so I'm a youngster compared to you withered old geezers. I've always found video games to be amazing. Progress in technology combined with the recent explosion in the indy scene means there truly is a gaming experience for everyone. You can even be a goat.
On a serious note, video games have now been around long enough to where the old stereotype of "Video games are bad and rot your brain and make you dumb" has been debunked. Turns out that actually using your brain in new ways to solve different kinds of puzzles may just be a good thing for your longevity and health (even the violent ones). Long live video games, those who make them, and those who play them.

Hence why I skip those mindless FPS games and have played a couple decades or more .... of RTS and other strategy games

Heh heh, that's what you say old-timer, but we know the truth is you can't keep up anymore with us young'uns and our twitch reflexes and rappity hippity hop.

actually when the old fart gets off his butt and gets ambitious he has some of the higer kill scores in a few of the FPS games. and im glad his reflexes are fast when he's flying us on vacation!! :hi2:HTWingNut likes this.

Hey I think it's a great thing when you enjoy something and aren't afraid of it to enjoy it as long as you enjoy it
I do admit I think I actually enjoy video games more than my bf
-
I know I play games more than my husband. feel free to ask him on that one after I kicked his butt in CnC Generals last night
-
Hey! I'm game. I'll get a Hamachi connection going and play through a VPN LAN setup (in game match making sucks)! I *LOVE* CnC Generals.

no need, I have a PPTP VPN tunnel setup on one network , maybe we will have to setup a 4 player LAN connection that way sometime, could be fun.HTWingNut likes this. -

Ah, questions...
Do you play ARMA 2 + 3 at all?
DayZ, both mod and Standalone?
I love the realism in these games, and tactics, it's amazing how many people fall for a simple suppress and flank (just I and a friend vs the world), but I play DayZ for the social aspect mostly, I usually defend the innocent, and I suppose keep the economy going (removing people that look incredibly suspicious, all armed to the teeth, in high end military gear).
I'll tell everyone the secret to surviving in DayZ. Don't look like a threat, keep that hoodie on, not the military jacket. The Ushanka, or Beanie, not the ballistic helmet.
You may think the helmet will save your life, but it rarely does, as a hit to the head /will/ knock you unconscious, people straight out not shooting you will be more beneficial to your life expectancy in the long run. -
So I'm not even all that old yet, but I entered the workforce recently and the demographics changed dramatically!
In college, video games were acceptable to most people. Now, playing video games gets me labeled as the "kid"! My coworkers (who average about 40+ yrs old ) can chat about movies or TV shows, but video games apparently enter some immature territory. Hopefully, this changes in the future. I would think video games are just as valid a form of entertainment as anything else
-
The thing I find interesting is the video game industry is bigger than the music and movie industries combined.
Sent with love from my Galaxy S4 -
Except the sad thing is that the actual talent in those industries get paid significant sums of money, where in video games, it all goes to the publishers. The programmers get squat.LanceAvion likes this.

I work as a consultant now... and pretty much every person in the company (owners and managers included) have their video game. They are not all the same, and the ages vary, but the story is the same. Even the eldest guy retiring next month enjoys his Tetris.
Given that I work in Mississippi now, you would think that it would be different... it's not. 1100 miles away and IT people are pretty much the same. -
Here's the scary thing. I am in IT. I'm a software engineer. I happened to land at a place where a lot of the folks are older and traditional. Even the younger people here don't play video games (or at least they don't talk about it) and that astounds me.
Definitely not the same nerd crowd that I'm used to in the field. -
Damn I guess I'm ancient at 52 then .
