My grandpa got me and my siblings into gaming when I was four or five (he would have been in his late fifties at the time). My first game was probably Captain Comic, though Aldo's Adventures (Donkey Kong knock-off) or Paganitzu may have come before. Kroz was another good early one, and we absolutely loved playing the ASCII roguelike Mines of Moria as kids, though permadeath was scarring. Then we were on to Commander Keen, which quickly became a favorite of Grandpa's and ate a lot of our time at Grandma and Grandpa's house. He used to hold competitions - each of us had fifteen minutes with the same iteration of Commander Keen, and we got to choose lollipops (the rewards) in order of high scores at the end.

Once we got a computer at home, we quickly gravitated toward Sierra adventure games, Red Baron, and an old Dynamix tank game called Stellar 7. A bit later it was Ultima 6, which introduced us to RPGs and really got us hooked. Then Warcraft. Then Diablo. Then Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Icewind Dale 1 and 2, Fallout 1 and 2. Deus Ex. Catching up on Monkey Island. A year or so of single-player Diablo II. Grim Fandango. And on and on and on.

At the beginning of college, I idealistically sold off my large CD wallet full of game discs on ebay, with the intention of giving up gaming and being a good student (failed on the former, did alright with the latter). I got about $50 for it. If I had been smart and parted out the collection, I probably would have gotten $500 or more.

Now I'm three days shy of thirty, I've lived in China (and been employed full-time) for seven years, recently got married, and I still play PC games. I've got a couple Borderlands characters on hold after burning out on that for a while, about 12 hours into Bioshock Infinite, then a couple single-player characters on Hammerwatch and a 1/6th completed playthrough (second time, but it's been years) of Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers on my laptop for mobile gaming. Gotta love Steam and GOG, without them I would probably be on my thirty-second playthrough of Ocarina of Time on some sub-par emulator.

Oh man, I'm only 26 and I feel ancient :)) Still miss the days of tape computers, writing small mini-games in BASIC on a romanian HC2000 down from german-language magazines out of which I understood nothing at all ... years upon years of playing text-based MUD's...

The advent of the dial-up modem and trying to play over the internet, oh the memories.

I can't believe I'm only 26 and have more than two decades of PC gaming memories.

I love this topic so I decided to write a post myself as I enjoyed the banter so much. I am 32 years old and have been gaming my whole life atari, nes, etc etc. I had an apple II E as a kid that I found on the road and rebuilt it and played some text based type games which led to get an atari at the flea market from then I was hooked. I have had pretty much every system that was available to me. My first real online game that sucked me in was Ultimate online. I played that for hours and got into the roleplay aspect, in which I love. I am married with one child (1 years old :) ) My wife does not par take in gaming but I still play xbox one and computer game still when I get a chance. It allows me to break away and relax. I love the talk about the good ole days of land parties as nerdy as it sounds I miss it alot. As for the gamer girls I always was lucky in that department and dating a few of them (Not the hairy ones, the cute ones that were hot and smart :) ) But as we move forward into life I am sure I will always game, I wish my job consisted of something more in that department but sadly it does not. Keep these going I am loving seeing the responses from you all. Its good to know we are out there, maybe start our own Social network of older gamers? Not that 32 is old but in the same I love my age and my gaming. I am adding the thoughts about getting the Razer blade just not sure if I should get the 14inch or the pro yet. Woot! I do have a Razer edge but I am thinking about selling it.

You even have the box!, thats great!

about 40 years ago I went to a bowling ally and played a game called Tank, 5 cents a play. The 10 Greatest Arcade Games of the 1970s | Big Fish Blog It was amazing the graphic they had, its was out of this world compared to Pong which came out 2 years earlier. Most of you guys weren't even born until 20 years later. I'm telling you I was like a kid in a candy store back in the mid-70's

Ag is just a number and there is no age limit to playing the game even if you get older. I can relate too, I've been playing PC games for 5 years with breaks in between and I've never been tired with this stuff.

I know this is an old thread but I happened to stumble across it :) Loved every minute reading it!! I am the 40 yo (almost 41yo) FEMALE gamer.. I have been that way forever lol My first computer was a radio shack keyboard that hooked to my B&W Tv (you know - had tin foil on the antenna's lol) and the ONLY method of saving anything was a cassette tape that plugged into it lol

I will never stop - ever. My kids think I am cool and their friends can't believe their mother plays video games. People laugh at my house since we have PS1, Ps2, PS3, 2 Xbox360's, 2 HP notebook/tablet things, my Alienware laptop. They always say "wow your kids are hooked up with video games".. I just look at them dumbfounded ... "those are mine - they aren't allowed to use them" LOL I don't even share with my husband - he has his own 360 lol

So rock on to the old people - we will be forever young! :)

This has been the best read on this forum for years.... loved it

I'm a 44yr old gamer, and have been since the early 80's, like most my journey started with sinclair zx80, zx81, vic 20, commodore 64, atari st, atari vcr, snes, megadrive, zx spectrum, xbox, xbox 360, xbox one, ps1, ps2, ps3, ps4. Theres probably ones i have not mentioned....

I love gaming not only do i enjoy it, its also a release from the day to day grind of life sometimes... i have recently moved onto more PC gaming, and loving the 120hz gaming i'm currently enjoying with my AW17. I still play console games with my two sons, they think its really cool that i've had a xbox live account for 11yrs etc etc...

i have never felt to old to play games, and hopefully never do...

    keep on gaming :)

    Hi,
i am from germany and also 41 years old, also gaming all my life from PacMan to StarCitizen.
few weeks ago a friend of my wife looked pitiful at us and asked me "Are you still gaming ???" i feel a little bit strange, but i am back on track now

I also have my C64 and Amiga600 at home, but i have not so much time to play with.
But its possible to buy USB floppy, connect LCD monitor and buy 30 years old parts to upgrade them

    yeah keep on gaming :
