Oh cmon, I think just about everyone likes this game. If you get the same experience playing with AI as you do with people then mabe your just anti social and hate mics and interation with other people?
No one can force you to like the game, but saying that you really hope valve doesn't profit from this game is wrong, cmon this game is great, and almost everyone who's played it thinks the same. A few changes need to be made so that users can find servers with lower latencies, or more easily go right into hosting thier own listen server, but otherwise it's alot of fun.

This game is amazing! How can you not like it???
-
Ya I have gotten to play it and love it. (even played a few rounds with unknown but got my butt kicked my hardcore zombies
)
But ya to say you hope they don't profit seems harsh, not every game is going to appeal to everyone, but to each his own. -
um i agree with the ping thing ,but you can tell the difference between AI and Human, this is not a mindless game and you hope valve doesnt get large profits for this game just because you dont like it? who the hell do you think you are to judge a game like this?
-
Gotta agree with most of what I've read, just installed the demo and I'm very impressed! Runs great, tons of action, great demo! Looking forward to the game!
-
this game is like actually being in the movies 28 days (weeks) later...so fun. I'm suprised how taxing it is though since my 9700m gts can't run it well with 4xaa

Hehe, I've already played the demo for 4.4hours...
I have no life
-
4.4 hours? pfft try 31.4 hours
-
I was like .14 Dual Core Ghz then the rec. settings and I ran it:
Max everything
1920x1200
x4AA
and it run smooth as butter =)
so I am surprised that it runs it fine...looks so much better than the xbox demo (I played both and yes my PC owns my xbox graphics)
just steam makes my computer get hot =( -

Now lets kill some zombies!

WUXGA with everything on high pushed my HD2600 alittle, but then again, I didnt have my full OC on.
Great fun, had one full round of the demo, one or 2 laggers here and there, but eventually the quit and then a fellow (and former) NBR member joined me and at one point and had to go and save him when he was surrounded by 7 or so zombies...the rest of the team decides they prefer shooting something else other than saving their tea mate.......-.-'' I really like how you can shove zombies out the way.
Either way, the assualt rifle is nice. -
yeah i just played the demo on my 360 and it looks way better on pc. this game is a lot of fun.
-
If you can't tell the difference between AI and Humans playing, you're playing with some pretty bad humans.
-

Hey well I got it yesterday on public-release day since I didn't pre-order. -
Guys, will my x4500 be able to run this?
-
STILL 0% upadating on retarded steam..nd 12 hours have passed.
-
i was playing this all day yesturday. expert mode is so fun on this game. i love it when the hordes come rush me
-
It's wonderful
. Me and unknown played the coop campaign. It seems to get harder when you have humans in the game, cuz it was a lot easier on single player.
Campaign is short though, lasted about 20 mins. It was fun though -
I'm 99.9% sure that's because the other team mates who can't aim for s*** keep shooting me. Almost every time I've played on expert, I took zero damage from zombies, but have been killed numerous times by other team mates. It's not because I run in front of them either, when a zombie runs up to me, a team mate almost always shoots me with a shotgun even though I knocked the zombie back then shot it like I always do.. On expert a single shotgun shot from a team mate seems to take about 60 damage on average..
I think a little more communication can fix this.. like.. DONT SHOOT AT ME!
And I'm not directing this at you yoyo1299, I think you only shot me once, and for 5 damage.
Also, a few tips that might help some people.
Mele DOES do damage. On easy you can kill a zombie with it in 1-2 hits, on expert it takes 3-4 hits to kill a zombie with it.
You still reload while mele attacking, if your using any of the guns, and getting swarmed by zombies, you can keep pressing the mele button so that you take no damage from the zombies while your reloading.
If a swarm is around you, mele attack them first, then shoot, if you just keep shooting at them, they can keep attacking you, if you mele them first, they fall back and can't attack you for a few seconds, keep doing this and you won't take any damage even while surrounded if your fast enough.
Don't ever take on a witch by yourself
I've tested it with god mode on, and the hunting rifle, it takes about 20 headshots to kill her on expert, and 10 on easy.
ahh I can't wait for the full game to unlock!
Also, many people in game have asked me how I do this in my hosted games of L4D. If you're playing single player or running the server yourself, turn on sv_cheats 1 and put this into the console
bind p "z_add;z_add;z_add;z_add;z_add;z_add;z_add;z_add"
that will spawn 8 zombies in front of you every time you press the P key. Enjoy
-
ugh...they've killed Realism in cold blood and buried it in the back yard
-
haha, yea because a zombie infestation is the most realistic thing ever..
-
Left 4 Dead is AWESOME.
When I first heard about this game, I had serious doubts. I didn't even want to buy it, I thought it was just another zombie game.
But Valve quality shines through once again.
P.S. Don't mind anarky, he is a vocal critic of almost everything, even of games that he likes. Which I suppose is a good thing in a way, an equal-opportunity critic of the highest order.
-
there's nothing wrong with criticizing games and liking certain aspects of them at the same time, they are not mutually exclusive options; dont ever let the good aspects of a game blind you to it's shortcomings; my standards for games are pretty high and it pains me to see games make no progress in certain aspects year after year when others have done it better before them
imo left 4 dead has some serious issues that for me personally prevent it from being enjoyable, but apparently im the only one on NBR that dislikes the game -
Just played the single player demo for about 45 minutes. I'd say overall I was very pleased. The Source engine is really fantastic. Yet another quality game built on it.
The only problem I have is that it was rather mindless for 45 minutes. Walk around hit up a few zombies, walk some more, kill a gang of zombies. Lather, rinse, repeat. I'm hoping that later in single player provides something extra. Same with multiplayer, but haven't tried it yet. -
Actually scientifically, zombies aren't that far fetched.
-
Ya we elected one into the presidency
*ducks*
But yes, I have it on pre-order, minute stores open i'll have my copy, then you will hear in the news of another kid pulling a red bull marathon and dying
J/K But I do expect a good 2 day lan party marathon with friends, hopefully some of you from NBR too
-
I am downloading the demo as we speak - I hope it is as awesome as it sounds.
-
6 more days till the full game! can't wait!!!

After playing the demo multiple times (over 5+ hours) I'm not so sure if the game is worth the $50. I would have preferred at <$40 price point, it feels more like a souped up mod than a full game. Even though it's fun to play, I just don't think it's worth the money right now.
In the future however when there is a ton of custom content and the game is at a lower price point it may be much more worth it.
But hey, I can't argue with the many that have already pre-ordered (More than Orange Box pre-orders). -

this game is serious **** i played it and an VERY impressed now time to see how hears 2 will stack up next to this...i like this game mostly though because it feels like a breath of fresh air for 2008 compared to anything else.
Also that new banjo kazooie is pretty hot lol really go try it if you have a 360 i musst say i am very impressed! -
How can you determine this through the demo? It's an uber small fraction of the actual campaign. Even when you're done with that, there's the actual multiplayer aspect.
-
When I first heard about this game, I seriously had no interest at all. After playing it for an hour though, I am loving it
. Great Job Valve on another quality game.
On another note, I can't beleive how much I've spent (or plan on spending
) on PC games this year. GTA4, Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, and Spore just to name a few. It's been an awesome year for gaming.
-
I am kind of split. I want to try out the newest NFS game because I heard the one previous wasn't so great, but then there is Farcry 2, Fallout 3, and of course, L4Dead, which after playing the demo is pretty awesome so far. Decisions, decisions...
-
This is - okay. NOt my style of game, so perhaps this is why I find it mediocre. A little more challenging for my 3650 than I expected, needed to turn down most settings to medium and AA off to keep a playable FPS during horde attacks. OTherwise not bad, but I won't be buying it.

I know, I don't feel as if the game is worth $50. Isn't that what a demo is for, so you can evaluate a game before purchasing it?
I will probably pick it up though when the price drops $10-$20. -
I wouldn't look forward to that any time soon. I highly doubt it will drop that low for atleast a few years unless you want to pick it up used for a console sometime in late 09.
This game will have unlimited replayability at least on PC so long as there are modders like myself out there, and there are thousands! Give it no more than 2 months and we'll see maps of even higher quality than valve's own out there. See unlike CS:S or TF2, people on L4D will probebly be more welcome to download a 100MB map or series of maps. Of course there will also be stupid maps out there with people using developer textures because they have no creativity,(orange walls with unit numbers on them, grey floors etc.., those textures).
One more thing to think about.. Most of you here have been saying that you spent between 4-20 hours on the demo so far, yet you do realize that's longer than almost every new game that's come out in the past 2 years.. And this is a demo! In the time I've spent on the L4D demo I could have beat crysis warhead, crysis, portal and HL2 ep 2 together, and I'm sure many people here can say the same.. -
For those who have the public demo, are you able to play it?
When I try to load mine, it goes back to the news page in steam saying it will unlock in 4 days. However, I have heard people say that the public demo will be gone once the full release hits stores on the 18th. -
I have been playing the official demo on Steam for the last 2 days.
You can delete and re-install the game in the "My Games" -

I was playing online last night and it's tough, we couldn't get to the first safe house without getting overwhelmed on hard; once we changed it to normal we got there but it took us 8 or 9 tries to get to the last one.
So, I have to practice a bit . . .
-
lol the first safe house is really easy, you could just run around the whole zombie crowd and down the stairs and straight into the safe room. on the next part of the demo (subway) it gets harder. for the finale that is
-
Dude. Witches are so creepy. Not the look of them, but the crying and the music. Holy crap. I thought that as long as you didn't shoot her, touch her, or shine flashlights on her it would be fine, but I just walked into the same room and it jumped up at me. Freaking witch.
-
it shouldnt just jump at you if youre in the same room, one of your teammates probably startled her. i've shined my flashlight on her for even a second and then immediately looked away and nothing happened.
but yeah i agree i hate witches, but not as much as tanks. i hate tanks -
I've never had any trouble beating it on Advance. Expert's the real killer for me. I made it up to the very end and my entire team was killed by a stupid Tank.
Witches. Well, I'd much rather be up against a Witch than to be up against a Tank. Tanks can take tons of punishment. I can fire 20 shots from my auto-shotgun straight into his chest and he's still running around pounding my teammates. Witchers on the other hand can usualy take down one teammate, but she'd usually be dead in seconds.
Anyway a single shot to her head with the shotgun is enough to kill a Witcher. The first time I encountered one, it leaped straight at me, I fired a shot right to her head and she died, and I was like......"That's it?!? That's what everyone's so afraid off?!?"
-
Expert is nuts. Sooo nuts. It's the only way to play though. Advanced seems tame after playing expert a few times.
-
I thought The Others was scary, so sound effects do it for me. Even if they're relatively easy to kill, still, it's pretty freaky. Tanks are just annoying.
-
Anyone can post screenshots with graphics settings -all- maxed out? I would just like to see a couple nice views what it will look like with all the effects on. From what I understand and being a half-life fan for 2 months, Valve is f-ing amazing at both graphics and gameplay.
If the demo of L4D is that crazy, imagine the real game...this is a full-out game that lasts probably as long as Half-Life 2 did. $50 is most definitely worth it! And it's Valve dang it! We love Valve!
BTW, I opened up EP2 for a few minutes on max settings + blur + bloom lighting and was blown away. I never played it more than a 20 minutes though, and even then the gameplay was just so cool. Out of 10, how would you rate EP2? -
I have yet to kill a Tank on expert.

I finally made some progress tonight . . . beat the demo a few times on normal without dying, oddly enough there were no tanks (probably why I was able to beat it without dying). Tomorrow I'll bump it up to hard.
-
I'll get some maxed out screenshots in a few minutes for you I<3RAM. (I just built a PC and it's like kid on Christmas morning to actually be able to play these kinds of games after 4 years of laptops)
My screenshot program cropped the images slightly so they're not a full 1680x1050 but it didn't resize so the quality should be the same (XS.to resizes them on load so make sure you're clicking to display it full size, unscaled). Shots don't really do it justice. Every setting is maxed at 1680x1050.
