That would be a transmorgification of the driver. It might theoretically be possible, to take everything but the graphics core from say 345.20, device ID and graphics core from 359.00 and technologies like mixed WDDM support from 358.50... but then someone'd need to recompile it all and then there's no guarantee of its stability, or if certain new features (or the graphics core itself) is dependent on the useless-for-end-user power throttle crap and other crap they added later on, which means we'll need guinea pigs, who might run the risk of bricking their cards from bad drivers (we know 355.83 bricked peoples' systems, so drivers are capable of doing this) and everyone who'd want to install it will need to disable Driver Signature Enforcement to run it, and finally, it won't be an approved driver by any means, and games which need certain drivers like SW Battlefront etc may have issues.
Then further the issue with GFE not recognizing the driver version being a possibility, effectively killing features one may use such as Shadowplay or gamestream.
I mean all of the potential downsides are just that: potential downsides. We know hacked together drivers can WORK in practise; I did that with the "gsync driver" that floated around a long time ago; the driver showed up as the listed install driver, but the driver core in nVidia Inspector etc showed up as what the core was pulled from (which was a different driver name). It also had power and temperature targets grayed out in nVidia Inspector too, so that's where I'm getting the odd experiences I'm listing.
But if somebody is willing to try, by all means. I'm certain everybody, especially Alienware 780M users, will be more than happy. -

I think Clevo is the furthest thing from a gaming laptop company... they're a high performance laptop company. Overclocking, gaming support, etc is probably the last thing on their minds.
They're doing well but let's be honest. Without Prema, they're just barebones hardware with a lot of locks and no keys we can use.
The thing is, we HAVE Prema =D.Ashtrix, TomJGX, hmscott and 1 other person like this. -
Am I the only one experiencing random crashes with Fallout 4 on the 359.00 drivers?
I have tried to change a few settings but keeps doing it. -
Thanks for the feedback.
Strangely enough, yesterday I played 4 hours straight without crashes.
I disabled all the software that normally load at startup, not sure if that's the culprit, but could be the Clevo hotkey app... -
So here's an interesting scenario. It turns out that my GPUs weren't downclocking anymore...
I'm still on 355.60.
Seems somehow my global Nvidia Control Panel profile got set to "prefer maximum performance". I set it back down to "adaptive", but I needed to restart my PC for the changes to take effect.
So it's probably not the drivers, but GeForce Experience that caused the issue, and people didn't notice their profiles in global were set to prefer max performance and then restart their PC.
I'm... I have no words. This is a whole new level. My GPUs have been running full bore for days and I didn't even realize; I was simply checking them for a specific reason this morning and then I noticed they refused to downclock, and were constantly drawing ~23% TDP for no reason.Mr Najsman, i_pk_pjers_i and hmscott like this. -

359.06 WHQL has been shown by many users on their driver thread with screenshot evidence to prove that the driver is in fact not WHQL certified, despite that they said it is.
I do not know if they've changed the uploader, but almost everyone who got it yesterday (with today being the 2nd of december) has noted that DXDIAG and other programs show no WHQL certification at all.hmscott likes this. -
There is so little time between releases, this time there wasn't time to turn the BETA package into a WHQL labeled release
sigverif.exe didn't come up with nvidia drivers that were unsigned, perhaps that is enough to qualify as WHQL even if the version stamp doesn't have it:

At least they aren't pulling an AMD Crimson and killing cards. I might pull the trigger on an upgrade to 359. They seem somewhat good from what I've seen in this thread.
Edit: also for those who asked, my locked clocks may be in part due to my low 3D voltage of 975mv that could be confusing the system. I don't have the problem on 353.06 which I upgraded to in order to play TW3 in SLI.Last edited: Dec 2, 2015hmscott and i_pk_pjers_i like this. -
I think most of those dead card reports are crap though. The cards SHOULD have throttled, heavily, and even if they didn't, the PC should have turned off. And most of the people who claimed to not notice that their cards were heating up like crazy all claimed to notice the exact temperatures the card peaked at before it failed.
I mean, the bug is indeed a problem that supposedly their hotfix addressed, but I don't think all those people really had dead cards because of a slow fanspeed.i_pk_pjers_i likes this. -
AMD + no EFI = dead card.
Nvidia in the same situation + no EFI = throttled card.
The problem is how quickly Hawaii (most of the dead cards seem to be Hawaii) heats up. Thermal shutdown can't happen because the sensor isn't sensitive enough. Theory anyway.
As for these drivers, I had to stop using the Windows 8 Netflix app because every time a subtitle pops up it freezes for the subtitle and then when it goes away the movie plays again. Browser and app performance are on par....... As in totally unacceptable. Judder, Judder, everywhere, Judder, Judder, you shouldn't be there!
>=( -
I see. That makes some sense then. Still don't get how people noticed their high temps at the point of thermal shutdown but nothing else though.
I'm not sure about that for the Hawaii. Someone checked with his card to force-lock his fans to 20% and he got thermal shutdown, but after a lot of throttle.
That is extremely weird. Does the judder happen on 355.60? -
It happened on 353.06. It happens on 359. I suppose I could remove 359 and go back to 347.88 but the most effective way would be to test Linux. Only Mint 17.2 won't boot on the latest Clevo EFI release and I can't see flashing Prema's BIOS just to stop the system enforcing current limits on the CPU (resets every reboot to 71A from the 105A I set it to) and possibly have it run Linux. I guess I could try 17.1 since I've booted it using nomodeset before (for some reason the kernel kicks the LCD frequency out of range of the LCD) - 17.2 gets stuck as soon as nouveau (open source nVidia driver that is buggy at best) takes over. I did, however, try the Netflix app on 8.1 with no drivers (clean DDU before going to 359) and other than the tearing it actually did seem to lose the judder. But Linux is a rather extreme solution just to watch shows so I'm doing what I can to try to adjust my eyes to it...
Its not working very well. Close or far, videos just suck on my laptop right now. Really pathetic. My laptop cost me more than twice what my Sony KDL-55W802A did and the TV doesn't have the problem. But I hate my roommates and want to hide in my room. I suppose I could set up my old LG in here and just move the laptop to a dinner tray table... I can't believe a first generation 120hz LG smart TV from 2008 has better picture quality for video than my actual true 120hz laptop does...Last edited: Dec 4, 2015 -

Dedication and a stupid fast phone... Apparently Linux Mint 17.2 doesn't like the latest Clevo EFI but 17.1 loves it so much I don't even have to run nomodeset to boot it now.
Anyway, the free and open source "nouveau" was a stuttering mess. I installed the correct drivers using the xorg-edgers PPA and I am embarrassed to say that Cinnamon crashed. There was no terminal in the basic gnome menu. For Windows this would be a mess but literally it was Ctrl+Alt+F1 and sudo apt-get update followed by sudo apt-get dist-upgrade.
The really big issue is Clevo doesn't open source their ECs... Oh and that's beyond the fact that in EFI mode I don't see anything until an OS is loading. So tedious.
Linux would take off, especially against Windows 10, if it wasn't so based in its command line past. Like it or not, every single person who uses Linux will face the command prompt that your friends told you about the glory days of DOS someday.
Interestingly enough, my color scheme for my keyboard popped up. It was always just flat blue before. That's a first. Someone must have made a keyboard driver to hook in too!
Now let's see if a) the upgrade passes (since I installed a proprietary nVidia driver, that driver takes over) and boots and b) if the situation smooths out. If it doesn't it's an unforgettable LCD issue.Attached Files:

I'm getting really mad. Linux is my only way of confirming (or denying) anything and Linux mints website is down which is why cinnamon broke. I'm going to have to go to Ubuntu! *cries and gets dragged away*
-
As much as I want to puke........... Ubuntu 14.04 with 353.62 is butter smooth.
To add insult to injury, my PS4 headset not only works but has the same riveting impact it does in Windows.
Its either a Windows 8.1 issue or a driver issue. The only blur left is intentional filters by the directors.
Want some real insult? Take a look at the pictures...
Go to Windows and show me Chrome playing video and CPU at 5% - do I hate Unity in Ubuntu? Can't stand it. But... I can't deny the performance.
Chrome easily sucks down 15 percent in Windows and the Windows services take at least 6 percent more.
Funny thing? I'm using a USB drive. Sad thing? No SLI in Linux. But Ubuntu has been certified as being EFI compatible and it works out because I don't have to mod anything to watch my movies in headphones.
As for the sound of the machine itself, I might test WINE to see if it can run the SB software but the seconds it takes to switch operating systems... And no judder... Its worth it.
Anyone who wants to reproduce needs Ubuntu 14.04, then needs to go to restricted drivers, install the official 353.62, reboot, install Google Chrome (essential - Chrome has its own plug-ins and Google is security certified). Go to Netflix, go to Hulu, profit. -

I'm running Ubuntu 15.10 dual boot on my desktop and laptops all dual booted with Ubuntu and Windows 10, and it's very smooth with Nvidia-352 (352.13 I think). Linux is very fun to mess around with, plus I got it on my server as well.
-
Well to prove that it was the driver at fault, I installed the same 353.62 on my windows side... There is no lag. I guess the reason I've hated Ubuntu is the reason I should be thanking them the most... Nothing enters official until it has been tried and true. Might be a pain to figure out Unity but you can just use Kubuntu (the two are intertwined - the only difference between them is KDE vs their Gnome fork... Unity) but either way, the drivers seem to perform the same. After all, Linux is x86 with a shell script instead of an executable file. It's mostly semantics. And libraries of course.

This is really nasty irony here, as for years I spent savaging AMD for their crappy drivers that came out about 3 times a year, and now that I am back to Nvidia, the only thing different here between the two GPU companies is the rate at which their crappy drivers are released.
No matter how fast and often Nvidia releases their drivers- which seems to be about once a week, as opposed to AMD, which is once a year, the results are still the same either way with both companies.
There must be some way to get Nvidia's attention here, and ask them kindly to release drivers that don't screw up older games like those I play, or release independent patches for Bioshock and Skyrim to make them run decently.
Like the Christmas song goes- "All I want for Christmas is my two (front teeth) games to run correctly

I got a lot busier than I thought... this is almost 3 1/2 hours of Heaven. Extreme tess, x8 anti-aliasing, max fans, 1080p.
As you can see there's zero throttling (1126MHz across the board thanks to @Prema) and my highest temp was 74.05C
Heaven didn't pull a TDR and for those familiar with my history, a max temp of 74C is amazing. I only meant to let it run for 30 minutes because I was so used to how quickly it thermal throttled that I wouldn't run if for more than half an hour but I'm glad I ran it longer this time...
I don't know why 3DMark triggers a TDR on every newer driver, especially since it does it at the physics test... but if Heaven burned through that long with no issue, its probably an nVidia and Futuremark issue. I'll run Catzilla and see if it does it.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

3DMark is crashing because my CPU can no longer do 4GHz, 105A (125A still crashed... We are talking the system froze and pressing the power button caused a CMOS reset), -80mv....... Not for 3dmark. I'm about to test wPrime but I get the feeling that either they changed my CPU when they replaced my motherboard or my CPU is literally hitting the Haswell degradation point... Anyway, at stock it runs all 4 tests without issue... So it's CPU, not driver. These are the best drivers I've ever used on my cards.
-
I know my card doesnt compare to any of you guys but a lot of these new drivers keep breaking older games i play too. I had a weird problem with GTA IV where there was some graphical freezes and i still can hear the sounds of the game, hard to explain but anyways i tried reinstalling it and using other things like commandline to fix it but no success, i went back to 353.62 and it fixed the problem which is the first thing i should of did. I dont like these consistent driver updates with NVIDIA whenever a new game comes out and then it ends up breaking other games. Still sad we have to stick with older drivers because the newer ones are unstable on our GPUs

But I get the highest Catzilla scores ever.
