I'm on my phone but if you search 640m le BIOS you'll see the thread from this site. OP is Amal. 310.90 are the last drivers that allow the BIOS mod to reach its proposed clocks, there doesn't seem to be an 'unlock'. Svl7 from techinferno also created Bios for the vaio s and they have the same issue.

Latest NVIDIA Inspector doesn't allow overclocking beyond 135mhz on Amal's and 200mhz on svl7's. In both cases clocks revert to 570mhz post BIOS mod with latest drivers. Memory clock can be changed without issue.

    Thanks

    Hey I have a 650M 2GB DDR3 (in the Asus N56). I have only P0 and P8, just like Oz.

I don't have a cooling pad and don't need to do any drastic overclocking. What I have been trying to do is to set 970MHz core, 1000MHz memory in P0, without forcing any p-states.

I would like to have this be a 24/7 overclock where the GPU is still switched into P8 and downclocked when not under heavy load (and the integrated graphics take over). The memory overclock is working just fine, but so far I have only been able to get the gpu to max out at 970 by using -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,20, and relying on the turbo boost feature to get there. If I use -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,135, then it reaches 1085MHz, which is further than I want to go, and boost is still enabled!

My question: How do I disable the turbo boost feature and force the gpu to maintain a constant 970MHz core when in P0, yet still allow it to dynamically switch between P0 and P8?

    Very informative thread!

You have to make two .bat file

One is for the OC and one is for the clock reset

We have the issue with the GT 650M in the Lenovo Ideapad Y500. It's an issue with Nvidia Inspector and should hopefully be fixed with an update. The newest version came out months ago.

Latest, 314.22 from the Nvidia homepage.
E: Also the clocks don't go down now even after restart and reinstalling drivers. Have to use -restoreAllPStates every time after restart to make them go down again, also force_idle command doesn't work anymore - instead turning the clocks down and going to idle it goes to under load clocks. Like it would also be P0 state. Any advice?

I have the Asus N56VZ with DDR3, 314.22 whql driver, and I have been able to overclock using Nvdia Inspector. I made a few .bat files and understand things a bit better now, however I have found that adjusting the P0 sliders in Inspector without forcing any P-states scores just as well, if not better than forcing P-state 0 (as long as you don't want to go over +135MHz core of course).

After forcing P-state 0, I was use -forcepstate:0,16 to reset to default states and enable dynamic switching between idle (P8) and load (P0).

On the other hand I have been having quite a few stability issues with the 650M. I have been testing with the BioShock Infinite benchmark, Heaven and 3dmark11. So far 1050 core, 1025 memory is my highest stable clock, which gives me +5 fps in BioShock and 3dmark 11 score 2673. 1085 core (+135) crashes 3dmark11 during the second test, and 1050 memory gives me faint green dots that pop up during BioShock benchmark.

Many people in this thread have been going past +135 core and even running a stable 1100 memory, so I'm kind of disappointed that I can't reach at least 1085/1050 (+135/+150). Also I know Oz was OCing and undervolting by forcing P8 but that crashes every benchmark for me even at 970/1000. I'm not even reaching 80C temps so either my card just can't handle it or I'm doing something horribly wrong.

I'd be interested to see how high anyone else with an N56VZ can go; can you run 1085/1050 or 1085/1100 stable? And have you tried forcing P8 and is that stable at all?

I hope someone doesn't mind helping me quickly, if they know how!

A quick explanation: the 650m on the Inspiron 7720 has a bug where sometimes the card will throttle down from it's 'boost' state (835 mhz) down to 745 mhz, and it won't boost back up again unless you turn off the laptop, re-plug the charger and turn it on again.

Now, I don't know too much about how the 650m works but it seems that both the 'boost' state and the non-boosted (745 mhz) state are both in 'performance level 2 (P0)'. However, in the non-boosted state, the voltage is lower and temperatures are MUCH lower for me, so my question is...!

Can I overclock the non-boosted state somehow? Maybe bring it up to 835 mhz or beyond. If I overclock the P0 level, it seems to only affect the boosted state. I've tried P5 and P8 too, but they don't work for what I'm trying to do :p

Hey guys, thanks for the awesome post. I have never overclocked anything in my life and this was pretty exciting for me.

    I'm running a W170ER branded iBuyPower, Intel i7 3610QM, NVidia GT 650m DDR5 1GB

Here's my problem though, no matter what I try, I haven't been able to overclock the GPU over 970mhz and I got the memory clock up to 1400.

I haven't done any vbios mod since i would have no freaking clue what I'm doing, but would like my clock to reach some of the numbers people reached here (1150, 1200)

ThrottleStop is also pretty awesome, got to overclock my CPU to 3.1ghz from 2.1ghz.

I'm also using the latest nvidia drivers

You two both need to read the OP carefully because all the instructions for bypassing the +135 MHz core limit are in there.

If you are using the .bat files correctly and still can't get your core over +135 MHz then try using 310.90 drivers if you're currently on something newer. I don't know if this applies to other systems but on the Lenovo IdeaPad Y400 and Y500 with GT 650M we can't pass +135 using the Nvidia Inspector method on anything newer than 310.90.

hey guys im having some trouble overclocking this properly. hope you guys can help me.. so im trying to force overclock on my p5 state on a single gt 650m in my lenovo y500.

i have my clocks set in nvidia inspector to 970/2400 and forced it to stay on p5 state with a .bat file.

however its reporting my current clock as 940 mhz instead of the 970 i have it set to..

my P0 offsets are +150/+400..... i also noticed if i set my p0 offsets to +180/+400 ... then my current clock will show 969/2400..

    nvidia_20130417_061049.png

edit: im also interested in undervolting. but whenever i try to adjust p8 clocks my system would crash immediately. even if im raising it by +1 on the core any tips for this issue? or is my system just not able to undervolt the gt 650m

You have to do a clean install of driver 310.90 and no later. Try with that.

Is there some benefit to using driver 310.90 on the 650M? I've been using the newest WHQL driver 314.22 on my ASUS N56VZ.

Does using the 310 driver work better for undervolting, or OCing in general? I also get instant crashes when undervolting on P8, and in P0 I can't go over 1050 core, 1025 memory without a crash in 3dmark 11.

Hi guys! Want to Flash BIOS on the instructions from the site forum.techinferno.com. But there was a little problem. I had the error Error 104. I FIX it, that is to replace the file fparts.txt, made a backup, FIX your bios, gave up the files to a bootable USB flash drive. And now, I want to flash the biosfix.bin, but don `t know which version of the file 'fparts.txt' used for firmware: from folder "'Error 104' - fix" (207 bytes) or from folder "FPT_DOS" (7,51 KB))? My Bios 5DCN89WW(V8.00). Lenovo Y580 i5, GTX660M.

Hello, this is a very nice guide!
But, whatever I am trying I cannot pass above the 1085 mhz of my gt 650m (with boost, duh).
    I have ASUS n56vz.
I read that one member had a success, but I have none.
Should I try to use older drivers? He did used new ones.
Or am I doing something wrong with the batch files...

    Hi guys,

Sorry the big newbie question, but ils it possible to MOD the U2442N BIOS for unlocking the GPU clock?

If this moded BIOS dont allready exist is it possible that you guys make one? I don't have the skills for doing so, but if I can provide you any help :)

    Thanks guys

Edit : I found a mod for the U2442N but it was release before the BIOS ladst update. Can I still use this mod?

I think it's wiser to ask the modder for a new version. You risk bricking your laptop.

You have to test it for yourself

Yep I was looking for it too! ^^

And I was wondering : is it possible to flash the vBIOS of a gt650M (DDR3 version) on a gt640M ?
I heard it was the same card, only different clocks...

I ask because I dump the bios from Gigabyte, and i found 2 vBIOS (as Prema said earlier). One for the GT650M and one for the GT640M.
What will happen if I put the GT650M vBIOS in place of the 640M ? Is it possible ?

You'll break the motherboard and you have to ask for a replacement

Only use 650M bios in a 650M model

Older Geforce drivers (before 310 i believe?) has the ability to OC the 640M card beyond +135, i suggest you clean install the said version.

Hey guys, I used this guide a while ago to oc my 1 gb gddr5 gt650m in my hp dv6t. I experimented with various nvidia inspector commands at the time and found that this line worked the best for a stable oc,

    Directory\nvidiaInspector.exe" -setGpuClock:0,0,1075 -setMemoryClock:0,0,2500 -forcepstate:0,5

I would get great fps increases and higher benchmark scores. However now, about 7-8 months later, I'm having issue with my oc.
I recently sent in my laptop to hp and they replaced the fan and heatsink, so i wiped my hard drive and did a clean windows install with the 310.90 drivers and i tried my oc command and all went well for the past two weeks.
Today, while playing planetside I saw my fps drop down to 10-15. I then noticed that my clock speed had also dropped. I restarted and tried the oc again,

    This is what I got

    The left image being pre-oc.

The gpu does not oc past 405mhz clock and 800mhz memory. I believe that is the cards throttling limit. Nothing has changed with my setup.

Anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong?

Try to add this options : "-setBaseClockOffset:0,0,XX" and "-setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,YY"
Where XX and YY is your overclock values for the Core and the Memory.
    (for example for P0, it gives something like : "nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,135 -setGpuClock:0,1,843 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,100 -setMemoryClock:0,1,1000 -forcepstate:0,0")

If it still doesn't work you can try this : "nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,0 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,0 -forcepstate:0,16", but you'll loose your OC.

And in last resort try a clean install of the driver as explained in the first post.

The nVidia Inspector method is working again on the 320 driver. Tried 1250/2700, rock stable :p.

Edit: 3DMark crashes with this driver though.

I just (out of curiosity) clocked my memory to +1000 on MSI Afterburner and played a few rounds of BF3 and was stable. Is that normal?

I have a 1gb GDDR5 GT 640M and the core clock was set to its max, +135 (putting it at 844 after turbo).

I am able to do some moderate clocks (using Nvidia Inspector) with this driver and have gotten some decent scores on 3D Mark 11 over the last few days. Yesterday I scored P3269 on battery with my GTX 660M, and that is not too shabby. The clocks were at +200 +250 for that score if I remember correctly. But trying it with higher clocks (especially memory) either yielded a crash usually entering test 2, or a lower score (when I bumped it up slightly). Anything over +270 memory, or +255 core would fail, whereas before I could push both over +300.

3D Mark did validate the score and driver though. And although the driver won't allow me to do higher clocks I am getting higher scores with lower clocks, which isn't a bad trade off. I does translate to better in game performance for some of the games I tested, although just minimal gains.
