They are not the only one with the GPU. Several Ive spoken to that are high up in the system have one. But they won`t disclose anything. Ive been too far away from the mobile scene lately :/

I must say I find its odd that no driver support have been added yet.

Well I can say is that they haven't sent me one but it's impressive and I won't violate the NDA even under threat of admin...

Numbers are impressive anyway... Knocking even 10 percent off for driver overhead... Its still over 50% faster on paper.

Thinking about how much issues I had with 980M SLI with Alienware 18, good luck with that 990M :p

A GPU that is almost as expensive as my entire laptop? Have NVIDIA lost their minds?

    A minimum of 330W adapter. A price of ~£1350.

No. This is not the GPU for me.

Where is 2048 core 985M? That's the GPU I'd be interested in.

No way in hell an I paying £1.5K for a GPU that gets outdated in under a year by Pascal. Nope nope nope. Even I have limits to how far I'm willing to go!

They have a 990M sample and currently waiting for shipment of retail cards btw

Another retailer that I will not mention said the card is expected to be about 30% more expensive than 980M. That price I linked to above is obviously wrong. :p

Be adviced that the retailer I spoke to dont know the final retail price yet though. Nvidia havent finialized the price point yet

Will there be a 985M pray tell?

Or is it this or nothing?

30% more than 980M is probably more than I can afford :(

So there was a company that told you this?
I can`t understand a OEM or private person bound you by NDA unless they sent you a document to sign

Have no idea mate. GTX 990M is the only card in the pipeline ive heard about

So basically NVIDIA is just going Titan X on us and not bothering to offer any decent replacement/upgrade over the 980M?

    990M or bust?

GM200 is not confirmed yet. Just me hoping and making sense of the performance increase over 980M. Could be a full GM204 as well but I cant understand how they get it to be that much faster than 980M with that. :)

Again, I blame ourselves. I blame the gaming press for numerically ranking "graphics" as a factor in average game rankings, and I blame gamers for buying into these ranking systems. This fostered an environment where developers needed to devote excessive resources to eye candy just to avoid bad scores that would skew their games' averages and hurt sales. In the current environment, the environment we created, the most successful studios are the ones that cater to the ranking systems.

This is changing. Finally. Some recent, high(ish)-profile, small games like Papers Please and The Stanley Parable have helped convince the gaming press to abandon average scores of numerical breakdowns in favor of film critique styles. This in turn has allowed games like Shovel Knight and Her Story to succeed on their own merits instead of being dragged down by numbers.

Oh... I'm disappointed. I mean, I'm happy for those of you who can afford this beast, but I was hoping there would be a 2048 core GPU that would be priced equivalent to 980M and be compatible with existing notebook designs.

Well the 16 GB (if they are real) indicate a 256bit pipeline which would fit more to a GM204. Or is it an SLI-chip with 2 GTX 970M (with 256 bit) like GPUs? However it is an interesting move. But lets wait for the price-tag. :)

Yep. Speculation is fun, no question. But when someone says "it's real" and then hides behind "I signed an NDA"? BS meter off the scale.

Here's a clue: revealing that a thing exists is disclosure.

I trust you unlike half the people here. You were spot on about the 980m. Would this 990m be in 15 inch notebooks? How much more heat would it generate? I'm assuming it'll have less headroom for over clocking than the 980m? I'm going to get a 4k laptop for my next purchase, but the 980m is kinda blah. Would it be worth the wait for a 990m for a 4k laptop?

If these rumours are true then the only 15.6" notebook that could be compatible is P75xZM series. 330W adapter minimum is crazily beastly.

Maybe that's why I like being a gamer, I don't mind if I'm not on max settings as long as the game is good and it's playing well on my setup. Had a blast finishing up Dishonored recently.. played it at 1600x900. Fantastic game. I can remember back when I got my 2600 in the 70's .. loved games then.. still love them now. I don't need to be on the bleeding edge as long as it's playable. I don't give a hoot what my 3dmark score is as long as my games play well. I still check 3d mark once every 6-8 months just to see how the drivers have progressed over time, but as long as my games are playing ok I don't care what the score is relative to everyone else.

Wish they'd kept it at 8GB. Would have ensured the price was more modest whilst sacrificing no performance at all.

    16GB is overkill.

So if all that leaked info so far would be true (let's play along for fun), seems 990M should be simply a dual chip (likely of some already existing Maxwell chip, as GM204):

    - roughly double the performance of 980M
    - double the VRAM of 980M
    - roughly double the price of 980M
    - roughly double TDP of 980M
    - performance increase dependent on driver optimizations

All these would fit SLI and are possible today (see MSI GT80 Titan), so only change needed would be to make it dual chip instead of 2x single-chip.

Also this would make sense from manufacturing / R&D point of of view: this wouldn't need any "magic" tech.

I dunno, I still have a heck of a lot of fun in this hobby... personally, Kerbal Space Program, FTL, Witcher 3, Cities: Skyline, X-plane, even GTA:V or Civ V etc are all fantastic experiences, and are huge expansions from those of 10-20-30 years ago in all areas (gameplay, sound, graphics etc). While we love to reminisce about the "boot disk days" where it required a separate floppy disk with custom autoexec.bat and config.sys files for each game requiring a reboot just to load properly, things are way better now than they were then. The COD grind is silly and easy to ignore... there's a whole lot more going on than the AAA console port crap. Sometimes I just enjoy loading up BeamNG and watching things crash in epic fashion ha

Taking a break is of course never a bad idea, and I try to balance a couple different hobbies when limited funds allow... HT, I know you are a fellow pilot, go take a flight with an instructor, get a different perspective and current again! :D Then, come back and find ya a good game to play!

Still not sure what to make of this 990m that keeps being spoke of... sounds like it will be way out of my price range, but maybe not if it's only 30% over the $300 upgrade Sager charges for the 970m->980m bump... for 50%+ more performance I'd jump for the extra $90, just don't tell the wife :p

The only way 16GB makes sense is if it were in an SLI like setup on the same card then it would be 8GB for each card/chip. But it's still a unicorn card. Mythical and never to be seen my humankind.

4k Eyefinity or NVIDIA Surround setup benefited from the 12GB's of VRAM on the Titan X in a few games.

Unfortunately, even the magical 990M is too weak to handle that. Maybe 990M SLI could.

Yup. The specs bandied about this weekend don't make any sense.

Actually, they do, but only for one specific market: Oculus Rift. The consumer version is due out Q1 2016 and no currently available mobile GPU meets the minimum requirements, not even GTX 980M (it's too slow). If GTX 990M really does exist then it exists because nVidia have been madly scrambling to bash together a mobile GPU that can drive Rift.

    Ethrem mentioned drivers twice.

So is it likely that a full GM204 + DX12 will give the mentioned 80 - 90% improvement.

That GPU already exists, it's a GTX 970, which the 980M wasn't far off from anyway. All they had to do was add the same or more cores than the desktop 970. I believe your theory is correct though. Dual GPU laptops are not as popular as single, and it only makes sense.

Why does NV keep adding more VRAM to laptop GPUs and not comparable/better desktop parts?

Pretty sure Ethrem was just messing with you guys, and proving the simple point that people will believe anything posted on the internet even if it's too good to be true because hope springs eternal.

As far as 990M goes, I'm gonna laugh if it's nothing more than a full GM204.
