new drivers could have a very small impact on your 3d mark score, maybe 200-300 points, but for some games, such as bioshock infinite, there is 0 percent difference between the 780m and the 680m right now. Given the 780m is on average 25-30 percent faster, you would think official drivers would have an impact on some games.

Power consumption vs the 680M? Higher?

Yeah. I haven't measured but my 680m didn't ask me for a higher PSU even when overclocked :) haha. Maybe someone else has it measured?

So what is your feeling for these cards? I have an AW 18 4900MQ+780m SLI on order and am debating not getting it if it doesn't get that 30% better than the 680m SLI. Do these cards have potential or am I going to be getting a new system just for an improved display? I'm really on the fence brother. Thanks.

If you're coming off an SLI 680m system, I'd suggest you wait. Almost nothing will tax a 680m SLI system let alone a 780m system. Goven the track record of the mobile gpus, maxwell will be a big increase from the 700m series. Expect the 880m to be around 10,000-11,000 GPU stock on 3dmark 11, whch is a little higher than 680m SLI

3dmark 11 P score is not memory bandwidth bound at all which is where a lot of the difference comes in.

The MSI systems were not showing such a large increase however.

What program are you using to OC? do you have a modded vbios? and what kind of powersupply do you have.

All these 9.5k+ 3d11 scores are putting my 7280 stock score to shame.

Going to wait for proper drivers before I even think of OC'ing.

Nice results all the same though.

CPU clocks shown in 3dmark is never reliable. Like on the firestrike test i got the achivement for having overclocked my CPU by over 50% even though i didnt overclock it at all...

Also sometimes it will show 0 mhz, sometimes 2500 mhz etc seems like its just random. I never get the same CPU clock reading twice lol

It's sitting on my desk. no cooling mods. Fans can run on their own or full fans. Can save a few degrees if you run full fans. This room is 95F

First of all why are you sitting in a room at 95F? There are nice technological devices called air conditioners. :p

And the other real questions are what will a Clevo, MSI, or even AW 17" do with temps? Let's face it, 95% of the laptops with this GPU likely won't be an M18x.

and what are temps and power draw with a real power consuming game like BF3, Dirt 3, etc?

Sure, but if i turn one on i'll get someone saying im cheating and blah blah blah. I am using a cooler master cooling pad though.

and i showed videos with temps and i also mention about power draw at the time. 250W, but it may be more now. going to do a short test video to see what it is.

    Edit:
Here is one running most of the time at 1124 but dips to 1110. Haven't investigated yet why...but it's possible to bench these clocks on standard cooling...depends on your room temp though, but i wouldn't recommend it any where near long term.

This is only to show it will run at that speed, nothing more. Only what is possible under the right conditions.

OMG dude, no one will accuse you of cheating if you turn on some AC. Who would know? Besides isn't room temp agreed on to be 72F? 95F.. I couldn't game in that.. I'd just shut down and do something else..

Yeah, it's not cheating. That's why it goes in one ear and right out the other. :D

Personally it doesn't matter to me since i bench desktop parts with ln2/phase change, water chiller & dice. Im not about to be wearing my parts down to prove some point about gaming in room temps with gpu running at 90C. I just find it funny as hell though. LOL.

    Edit:
So now it's official. The 780M is actually here to stay and perform.

Back when Clevo was king and Dell was trying to find two crutches and a kick stand to stand up.. :D. All I'm going to say about that is this..

Optimus wasn't consider a problem till a Dell 680M came up and challenged, then later beat it. Did we forget about this? :D

It was not until I reached up to over 1100mhz lol. But there are ways around it now.

I could have put my card in a workstation shell and gone for it but did not want to invest so much at the end of a generation.

These scores are very impressive, good to know a 780m gtx for the most part will be able to go from a 7500gpu score to over 9500+... now if only nvidia had them clocked higher out of the box :/, I'm a bit reluctant to do a vbios mod on my MSI gt70-20d just due to the fact a new 780m will cost 750 dollars if i do something wrong. I guess if i want an overclock I'll stick with a simple +135/300mhz afterburner OC to get an 8600 gpu score :/

If I can save the money. I'm putting money away for my P150EM replacement for the Maxwell 880m SLI machine next year, but if Maxwell gets delayed past Q3 next year I'm gonna have to go 780m SLI. If I wasn't buying the Clevo W230ST this year I might just bite on a 780m SLI machine but then I wouldn't have a portable laptop that I want/need.

Got my P375SM with dual 780ms yesterday. Scored 12361 overall, and 15769 in graphics in 3DMark11 stock.

I'm able to push Afterburner to the max core +135 (seems to be more headroom here), but anything over 340+ on memory artifacts. GPUs idle at 48/49c and peak at 84c load after a couple runs in 3DMark. Will post some additional results later today.
