Man I am still no where near your Fire Strike Score. CPU @ 4.2 GHz on all cores. Power Management plan for the GPU in the NVCPL is on High Performance and so is texture filtering mode / Gsync and VSYNC off......

@Phoenix you have to use +200 core /+400 memory to reach the 24.5 and near 25k in graphics score
I will try a super run at my max clocks for both, hoping the laptop won't die. You are also near my best cinebench, mine was 918. I haven't done an overclocked timespy.TBoneSan, Papusan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Well this has been a nightmare so far. I told it to do a clean install. It uninstalled and rebooted. Fine so far. It tried to install and I got a black screen that I couldn't do anything. Against my better judgement, I uninstalled with DDU, and like last time I used it, there is no mention of my GTX 1070 in device manager. I tried installing again and it look liked it was going to work, failure again. Trying to download from MSI's site and install now. sheesh ...
-

I used DDU in safe mode like I always do, then installed it just fine.
When installing, even after cleaning with DDU, I select custom install, then check the box which says Clean Install, then uncheck 3D Vision Driver since we don't have a 3D screen and also uncheck GFE as the ony included with the driver is not the latest one, then I install GFE seperatelyhmscott likes this. -
I can't get any driver to install now with nvidia's install. It will start for 20 seconds or so and I get a black screen and can't do anything. I reboot and the card doesn't show in device manager. I choose update driver and it installs 376.39, which is on MSI's site, so I at least get my card to show again and nvidia control panel.

I finally got it to install. No problem at all. Only took about 4 hours. I only had to do a restore from the backup on my hard drive. I tried to install the driver immediately after. Black screen again and I couldn't even boot back into windows after that. Then I only had to do another restore my Windows restore USB. Then the driver installed with no problem.
I think the problem was with whatever the tech at MSI installed. That's the backup I restored that it wouldn't work with either. My MSI usb that I made when I first got it probably would have worked too.hmscott likes this. -
DDU and Clean installed without issue. Will do some testing.
-
will also do some testing. @j95 is on the ball with the modded INFs!

Has anyone else been having a lot of Gsync bugs using the recent driver(s)? With this one and 378.49 Gsync is virtually unusable - I get constant black screens and crashing in my games. Rolling back to 376.33 fixes this.

Have you tried forcing vsync on globally in the driver control panel then disabling it in the settings of individual games?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Unfortunately this doesn't seem to make much difference. Any game I load in fullscreen still gets nearly constant flickering on these drivers.
Edit: I should probably add that turning off Gsync removes all flickering/crashing, so I'm pretty sure it is some sort of conflict between Gsync and the drivers.Last edited: Feb 15, 2017 -
just wanted to confirm, this i reinstalled W10 2 times now and thought i ****ed something up, but yeah gsync makes some pretty issues now since the new drivers + brightness control doesn't work with them on my P775DM3-G.
-
Will do some testing and reply back too.
But as of this age, I have older tech so yeah.. -
Hi guyz, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I haven't been following which driver is stable as Nvidia has been messing things up. I have a 970m GPU and on 372.54 driver. So which is the newest and most stable driver for my GPU? Thanks.
-

The answer: trial and error. The only way to find out what works best for your system is to try various versions for yourself. The drivers listed here are working well for me, but as you can see, they're not for many others. If what you have right now is working well for everything you do, leave it alone. -
Thanks for the reply. I was hoping I won't be a guinea pig and get away with it. LOL. anyways thanks again..

I'm with 375.95 for my GTX980M. Tried 378 for awhile and decided to roll back becuase of temp issues. Prior to this I'm on 372 as wellDreDre likes this.

Just set a system restore point before you try them. Easy.
-
I have a Sager with the 970m 6GB. Using 376.54 and it's working well for me with a slight overclock.
-
Thanks alot for all the reply guyz.. yea my plan is just to use macrium reflect and create a back up image for worst case scenario.. things you do for not trusting nvidia..

Honestly? I would keep that driver until you need to update for a game or program. That's a good driver.

so true.. didn't caused me any problems at all.. I was just hoping really if there was a better one..

I have not heard of or seen a driver pass 365.19 or 372.54 in stability yet. Just later drivers have bugfixes (for Pascal) and other features (BF1 needs later drivers to run and 376.60 or later is needed to fix visual corruption in SLI, etc etc) that people might need... hence why I said specifically that you may want an upgrade for certain games or programs. But if you don't, then no need to *ever* leave 372.54

You can move up to 376.60 if you have warhammer total war, otherwise stay where you are as @D2 Ultima said. I was on 372.54 till I got that game and had to update. -
@0lok You can try Install 373.06 & when you need to Play BF1 just go to System32 and rename the Nvapi64.dll to some nvapi64_.dll and play the game. Works *FLAWLESS* (Caveats - No NVI detection for that time, No Video clock monitoring, No NVCP control, Rollback i.e rename and reboot And you will get everything back)
-
Thanks mate. I really love this community, everyone is so helpful.

NVidia GeForce hotfix driver version 378.72 addresses the following:
- Fixed hardware encoding in Steam (In-Home Streaming).
- Resolved PhysX being forced to CPU when "Optimize for Compute Performance" setting is OFF.
But seriously it's not a very hard prediction to make, they've released hotfix drivers for every major revision. Better than not fixing things I guess.

Maybe Nvidia software workers is afraid they loose their job if everything works correct with each new driver release?
Nvidia could probably fired half of their workers if everything worked well in every new released WHQL driver. Yeah, more work aka extra work will benefit the software engineers
-
No. Software is hard. Mistakes happen. If they released bug free code we would get a new driver every 2 years.
(It still wouldn't be bug free)

As someone who writes codes, I understand your point 100%; but still there is a big distinction between what is considered as a bug what is considered as a catastrophic mistake. If hardware failure happens due to coding problem, that is catastrophic with the level/number of test engineers a company like Nvidia must have.
That being said, I honestly never had hardware failure due to software bug, so I can't comment on the validity of some of the reports online. -
Updated to 376.60 and my 3d mark benchmark score went up by 44. LOL. GPU and CPU temp were the same as the previous driver and GPU load was about 99% to 100%.. Seems the update was good. One problem though. The results says that "Graphics driver is not approved".. Wonder why. Anyways thanks for your help.

So 376.60 is the current "safe driver" for 980M? I am still on 359.06 but apparently that one only supports OpenGL 4.4... Would updating to 376.60 give me OpenGL 4.5 support? Nvidia's page for the 980M claims that it supports 4.5.
-
It works fine on my GTX 870M.
-
Ahhh 359.06 was a good driver.
If you don't need a new driver, then 365.19 or 372.54 are FANTASTIC ones to stick to; 365.19 in particular but 372.54 makes games a lot smoother for some reason.
376.60 only if you're playing BF1 or other games that need post-372.54 drivers.0lok, MahmoudDewy and Papusan like this. -
