PC and a 360 FTW
PCs are best for RTS and things like that. For everything else its 360
If you have enough games, then you can probably break even with the price difference of a PC vs a Console.
Its easier to communicate with people over a 360, with private chat/IM (sure you have things like skype but they take up space and network)
Also, you dont generally get people lagging out with consoles and its a lot easier to play online because of this.
Controllers IMO are better, because they almost always the same for everyone, but on PC you get trackerballs as well
Consoles are cheaper and most games come out on the console then ported badly to PC
You can have a lot more fun with a console because its soo much more laid back, I dont care about the minimal increase in performance, I just want a game to be fun to play.

yeah I think so too. But the possibility is there, and chances are they'll start adding the option to more FPS and RTS games (Halo Wars?). The difference between PC and console gaming is getting smaller and smaller. You can use a 360 controller on PCs, and the consoles are capable of using a mouse and keyboard.
-
how about the fact computer games are updated much more frequently than console games (IE, new content). i remember bungie said they would update halo 2 often. they recieved maybe 2-3 map pack additions over 3 years, a few game type additions, but never any real new content. pc also has better use of in game chatting than any console does (you can type much faster on a keyboard than a controller, and or you can use VOIP clients to talk, which do have better quality than console voice chats). the first person shooter multiplayers are usually far superior on pc than on console. the graphics are better (and you can't get a 1200p tv screen yet, but my notebook has one), though pc is more costly. the game environment is usually much more in depth. you have much more buttons on the keyboard than you do on a controller. you don't even need to purchase the disks for the games for pc anymore, and you don't need to worry about scratching disks (or losing them for that matter). also, you can't get as accurate in fps games with a controller as you can a mouse and keyboard.
but most of the console are over multiplayer games. single player games really should be argued about the actual game versus what it is played on. though, there are games like zelda that i really wouldn't want it to come out for PC. -
1. Keyboard + mouse > controller any time
2. Computers also have other uses
3. You can spend as much as you want on a computer, then set the settings in a game to fit the computer, instead of having just one hardware configuration -

you can do a lot of things on a PC that you can't do on a console (RTS and FPS). the only compelling reason of getting a console is the price and occasional console exclusive blockbuster titles.

PC gaming is not dying. What's dying is the PC gaming profits.
PC gamers FAR outnumber console gamers. The problem is, most PC gamers are playing free games, browser based games, or pirated games. "Free MMORPGs" are what make up the bulk of PC gamers today (god knows why).
The reason there are so many PC gamers is that pretty much everyone has a computer. But even though we have a huge advantage in terms of numbers, profits are not keeping up, because people are all playing free games. Not to mention the huge amount of piracy that goes on.
Let's not forget, a console is much cheaper than a gaming rig, the games are more profitable, and piracy is much less of a problem.
Neither side will ever win this war. Consoles are cheaper, but everyone has a computer. The future will likely be some sort of weird hybrid of both. -

I reply to the opening question.
I chose computer games because it can be played anywhere I go.(Laptop) I really don't care about graphics since powerful GPUs on laptops costs so much. But at school I am the only one that has a 8 series GPU on a laptop. -
i rate games by how long they had me hooked for. so far aoe2 wins closely followed by hearts of iron 2 and then a toss up between m2 total war and company of heroes.
i think computer games wins simply becauuse of WoW and the sims. -

Oh I also do not chose to buy console yet because it is hard to choose.
PS3-Pricey but does not break often and a really great and cheap Blu-ray player
Also Iy does not really have many games but(FF13, Star Ocean4, Disgeae 3..) are my favorites
360-Cheaper but easily overheats. Many games but only a few RPGs(ALso most games here are being ported to the PC)
Wii-I just don't like it as my console. -
exactly. Consoles are fun for sports, rock band, and the occasional exclusive, but 99% of the time I'd rather be PC Gaming..
Besides, Starcraft is PC on, and we all know the second coming will hopefully be here this Fall/Winter! -
Yeah, for most AAA titles, it's mostly multiplatform titles that are doing far better on console, but still "good enough" on PC. Even still, games like Crysis which have almost sold over 1 million copies, probably closer to 2 million now, and selling strong, Starcraft 2 will be humongous, WoW is still probably the biggest money maker of all time, and let's not forget about the orange box which outsold the console versions..etc..so there's still hope.
I think things are changing though, and Stardock/Ironclad who just released Sins of the Solar Empire have sold close to 400,000 copies and they've are reporting that profits are great, being that they are selling it directly through their website, and don't have large marketing budgets that we see in console titles like Gears of War and Halo's multimillion dollar advertising campaign.
It's good to see PC Games trying other ways to monetize, like Battlefield Heroes and Quake Live, and the soon to go Open Beta from Flagship studios, Mythos, which is amazing, free and will offer a Korean based model where you can purchase items to enhance your character, but still very cheap.
I think the future's bright, it's just not killing in retail in the United States like consoles are, but by all accounts, digital distribution like STEAM is doing tremendously well. Times are changing for the best I suppose. -
its a g1.
core 2 due 2ghz (t7200)

i think they are the most important ones. -
I choose PC gaming because computers are capable of better graphics, and can be easily upgraded. I also choose PC gaming because I have a BEAST! (Click my userbar, and then the about page to see it).

PC Pros:
- Superior graphics (lets face it, consoles are always playing catch-up)
- More intuitive controls (for some)
Cons:
- lack of hardware standards
- games sometimes require troubleshooting
Consoles are the exact opposite, with perhaps the exception of the controls. In addition, the graphics quality of consoles is often diminished by small TV screens. Also, it seems pointless to me to have both a PC and a console; upgrading a PC to a gaming platform is often cheaper than buying a console. Not to mention that the con of games sometimes requiring troubleshooting is no big deal if you know what you're doing.
-
I started playing computer games as a kid because my parents didn't want me to have a console, and I basically got hooked. I don't like consoles because I like to tweak things, and I like the freedom of mouse/keyboard.
-
(1) Mouse + Keyboard
(2) PC Games are Cheaper
(3) More variety of games (RTS & Flight Sim) not on Consoles
(4) Portability (laptop easier to take with me than X360)
(5) Modability -
How is a mouse and keyboard better, its too un-relaxeds, I find the setup only works on an RTS.
On a cotroller there are probably around 8 settings of walking speed (theoretically over 200 but no game bothers with that) as you push the analog stick forward, with a keybard you have go and stop, thats it. -
I prefer PCs. As has been stated, mouse+keyboard is far better than gamepad. Modability on PCs is awesome, and console games are basically unmodable due to a number of factors. Generally, graphics are better at any point more than 8 months after a new console launch. PC native games usually have better save systems that console games. Also, there are far far far more PC games than console games, because there is a very high cost of entry (licensing fees, the console mfg's pound of flesh, etc) in to the console space (though things like XNA may eventually slightly mitigate that), whereas anyone with GIMP and GCC can make a PC game.
Also, to those that say some genres are better on console, that's not really true. Those genres seem better on console because that is what they are developed for and then the control scheme is shoehorned on to a PC. The same genre with a PC centric control scheme and production values is usually a better play experience on the PC. -
First of all, I am a video game nut. But to this day have never done well with the gamepad. I hate it completely. I'm comfortable with the XBOX 360 controller for some reason, but still am clumsy. I don't like controlling with my thumbs, especially since I have bad joints in my thumbs.
How often do you use 8 settings of walking speed anyhow? Usually there's three in any game I need: walk, run, sneak which is easily achieved through keyboard combos (i.e. W+CTRL or SHIFT or ALT). Most console games I play rarely execute 8 speed settings anyhow.
I find the gamepad good for driving games if you don't have a wheel, but other than that for RTS and FPS, keyboard+mouse is king. -

I picked up the new Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse, much better than I thought it would be, and probably the best mouse I've ever used for gaming. I really like the weights in it, feels just right. I would recommend this mouse to everyone. It fits my hand better than the Razor Copperhead that I use as well.

how good is the mouse on rpg -
Simple reason Computers are way more powerful and I like to tinker with settings. PC has more graphical options thus makes it the perfect platform too. Graphics wise a console don´t stand a chance against a high end laptop, not even a high end one. I can also plugin in my laptop to my HDTV and play at the ancient 1280x720 resolution with higher framerates than what my Xbox 360 has. Oh and the 360 do have framerate problems.
I just got back to test Oblivion a little on it again and man does that game not run in 30 fps constantly, nope I see drops here down to 23-25 fps in some areas. Test Drive Unlimited 360 has horrible jaggies and also framerate problems when there´s lots of smoke on screen at once. Was´n´t it consoles that did run the games perfectly? No not at all, they don´t keep any 30fps constant in the heavier games. Even Gears of War has lower than 30 fps in some areas. For me this is easy to notice even without any framerate counter that doesn´t even exist on consoles. If you have played PC, I have played PC since I was 13 and has trained up my eyes maybe too much. I am a hardcore gamer and want the best possible experience, so for me it´s simple. A highend laptop and a high end desktop that is the best experince you can have if you want graphical quality. Although more expensive of course but that is what you have to pay if you want to be on the top.
Also the gamepad is best used for sport, platform and car games. If you are going to play FPS then stick with the PC. The PC is the first platform to have FPS and is still the best platform to play a FPS. It is just stupid to play any FPS on console with a controller. -
For my desktop, Logitech MX518 is awesome. But I hear the Razer's are also quite nice too.
With the Logitech, all buttons work without need for extra software too, although you can install the software for added features. But I hate adding extra background programs if I can help it.
For my notebook, I bought a Logitech VX Nano. Actually that mouse is simply spectacular TBH. A little on the small side, but it seems to suit me just fine. It is wireless with a super small USB attachment. And the batteries seem to last forever. So far zero lag with gaming. It is very responsive. It takes a little getting used to the extra buttons as they're placed in an awkward location (on top instead of on side) but so far hasn't posed an issue. Only time it would be an issue is if you need LMB + one of those extra mouse buttons. -
Shadowfate Wala pa rin ako maisip e.
Will you actually get better using gaming mouse???
Also personally I like using controllers than Keyboard. I play better(well not exactly) or should I say much more relaxed when I use a controller than a mouse and keyboard. -
Eh it depends on what you define as RPG. I realise ppl have different taste when it comes to games and genres. I love RPGs but at the same time I can't stomach "kiddie" style or anime style RPGs which seem to be prevalent on the PS3 platform.
For RPGs on PC I can list several that come to mind over the years:
Baldurs Gate 1&2
Fallout 1&2 ( can't wait for 3!)
Elder Scroll Series (Morrowind and Oblivion)
Icewind Dale 1&2
Temple of Elemental Evil
Neverwinter Nights 1&2 (best testament of how mods can open up the original game and take it so much further especially for online)
Gothic series
Witcher
Diablo , Dungeon Siege series ( I don't really call these RPGs in the true sense of the word, more like a hack 'n slash RPG-lite)
MMORPGs which are too numerous to name here but there's WoW which everyone's heard of. -
back to the OP's topic:
mouse+keyboard combo>controller. I prefer the controller for sports games (NHL series) tho but that's about it. When it comes to reaction times, pin point precision and configurable keys nothing beats a mouse+keyboard.
Consoles are great for when I have couple friends over. Consoles have a more social aspect that way. But if I was playing solo I'd rather be on a PC/laptop. -
yeah, once you get used to using a mouse and keyboard, it'll feel natural and you'll most likely enjoy it more for certain genres like FPS and RTS where I find it hands down better then a gamepad. That's not to say I don't enjoy using a gamepad, but for mostly sports and platformers.
Ever since Quake 1 back in High School, the mouse and keyboard has been the way to go for FPS, I just can't stomach thumbsticks for headlook, it's so uncomfortable no matter how many hours I put in. When it comes to many MMO's and RPGs, I find it much better to have a keyboard for quickkeys on the keyboard, that really make controlling the game much better. -
As far as mouse+keyboard vs controller in shooters, there is a reason that console shooters all have auto-aim as the default option while PC shooters don't. A mouse is simply far more accurate and gives much more responsive and fine control. Imagine trying to navigate a Windows desktop with a controller. There's a reason that console games don't use cursor-based menus. This also makes mouse+keyboard rediculously superior for RTS/TBS and any RPG with a decent PC-centric control scheme.
That's not to say if you are used to a controler, you will be awesome with a mouse+keyboard right away, but after a little while to adjust, you will be a better player than with a controler. There is a reason why professional gamers on PC use mouse+keyboard even when there are plenty of gamepads that work with a PC. -
I suppose if you dish out the money for a nice, proper gaming mouse it'd be pretty sweet.
I find that online, consoles are better because its all fair, you dont have certain people with uber hardware that easy to use and someone running at 20fps. And you get a lot more modders and hackers who cheat and ruin the gameplay.
I suppose I play games to relax, and PC just doent do it as well as a console.
TBH the best setup is a nice-ish laptop that does everything but gaming and a console for gaming, I belive its also cheaper that way, for me it was
-
Because PC games( not console ports) are way more immersible than console games,USUALLY have a better storyline and a more intelligent gameplay.
On a console it all boils down to good graphics and collecting some sort of coins(or getting achievements whatever).
For instance: Morrowind owned because it was made for PC,Oblivion sucked because it was made for consoles. The same will be with The Force Unleashed (Jedi Knight series ruled coz made for PC
Fallout 3 (1 & 2 among the best games of all time) etc.
And yes the mouse+keyboard combo reigns supreme over a controller.A 10 yr old kid using a mouse would pwn god using a controller when it comes to FPS,RTS and RPG games.
why do you choose computers games
