    Have it in my hand...

Having to install my drivers for my printer because apparently I can do a wireless scan unless I allow HP's digital imaging monitor to start with my computer. And when you set it not to start up with vista, apparently there is no turning back...

    Damn hp's...

    Thanx!!

    Me thinks we have typos!

    "17" Widescreen WXGA TFT (1900x1200, Non-Glare)"

    WXGA = 1280x800
    WXGA+ = 1440x900
    WSXGA+ = 1680x1050 (my fav)
    WUXGA = 1920x1200

    I wonder which it is?
    Opinions?

So I just want to clarify this. The list of changed components (coming from the P-6860FX) is as follows.

    Old Model -To- New Model
    Price: $1,350 -To- $1,450
    Processor: 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 -To- 2.36 GHz Intel C2D p8400
    Memory: 4GB, 667MHz DDR2 -To- 4GB Dual Channel 800 Mhz DDR3
    Hard drive: 320GB 5,400rpm -To- 200GB 7,200 RPM
    Chipset: Intel GM965 -To- Montevina
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS -To- NVIDIA GeForce 9800m GTS
    Scren Res: 1,440x900 -To- 1900x1200

So. better RAM, Better GPU, Better CPU, Better Screen Resolution, and a Lower Capacity HD?

How long do you guys expect the battery to last in comparison?

This laptop's niche is supposed to be the best value gaming laptop, not an expensive gaming laptop. It would make no sense to see this laptop be over $1500.

    Slight cons:
    Smaller HD
Did not update webcam to 2.0MP
Only 3 USB Ports... 4 would have been better

Apart from that, I will definitely buy this laptop in September unless some other company slashed prices and offered a better solution.

$100 won't break the person's back if they realistically considered buying a gaming laptop... You can't find another laptop that offers a 1920x1200 and a 9800m GTS for under $1500.

well that settles it... I'll offically be laptopless until i get back home late august, instead of my wife picking up a new 6860 for me.

I wonder if we're actually going to get a 5.9 WEI machine out of this deal (yeah i know its a crap standard...but it looks so nice on the screen)

I think i'm in love with gateway and bestbuy. For two companies i used to hate so much they have really made me a believer.

Wrong. The Best Buy models never had a Fingerprint Reader. Bluetooth should be inside though, unless they're taking a leaf out of the 172S FX book.

It should be. Seriously, guys, don't worry too much. For that price, I'm sure none of you would mind shelling out $25 or less for a bluetooth dongle. I doubt that will be necessary though.

How certain are you of its August 14th release date? When gateway sold out of 173X FXs and wrote "New product coming soon" on the product page a few days ago I called customer service about what that meant and they redirected me to sales. I was told the 6860s/ 173X FXs were too new to be replaced and the sales rep sounded almost offended that I thought their product needed replacing.

First of all, I did read it in a news release from our corporate office that we will begin shipping out the new model 8/14. Im positive thats not a false statement considering that we are'nt recieving anymore 6860's. Once stores are sold out of them, that is it.

It's probably because the new notebook's a best buy exclusive or maybe the gateway rep was just trying to make a sale... Either way sales reps aren't always the most reputable sources so I'll take your word over theirs

Your best bet is to contact your local store. It is actually allready in the system for the price of 1450, so you might be able to pay for it now and get it later.

Even tho i knew the specs, i registered 2 see em from original BB sheet. Noticed one thing, "9800m gts 512MB". It actually has 1GB according to notebookcheck and in 3dmark06 test it beats 8800m gts by ~2000 which is A LOT. I been thinking about 6860 since May, but now i am definitely going to get P-7811FX from bb (2 within 4.5 mile radius).
Read this whole thread, seems like everyone is hyped up about it. I am 2... :)

Also i hope P-7811FX going to have second hdd bay, but if not... oh well i just got 1TB external hdd lol.
