Where's the 100$ discount from bestbuy on this bad boy laptop?

I haven't seen it, but haven't been going into bestbuy every day, someone in charge of keeping us updated? hehehe, kidding. But any information about it would rock

It's a sale that lasts a week. Part of Best Buy's weekly sales. You just gotta wait for it.

I'd like to get the laptop on or before July 4th, so hopefully a new one will be coming up soon.

 

Honestly if your willing to wait until the 4th they you might get a better deal than the 100 off that most of us got.

Typically bestbuy and circuit city and all of them have some pretty amazing holiday sales to try to steal out money (and they do it so well) so you might make out like a bandit with a 6860 around the 4th.

I know its along time to wait, but at this point your close enough to a holiday sell you just about cant afford not to wait.

I'm hoping that 62in TV i had my eye on is part of this years 4th of july sale

(Actually three... hi, first time poster, long time reader)

One... Best Buy will match the price if it goes on sale within 14 days so if (and that's a big if... see two) it goes on sale within the next two weeks and you purchase it now, you still get the sale price. I would assume you bring in your reciept to customer service and they credit you the difference.

Two... When I was digging for this info from the guy who worked in the PC department, he informed me that this particular model went on sale twice already and (for whatever reason) policy dictates that a particular item can only go on sale twice.

Take that for what you will, but I thought I'd at least chime in.

Yep...worked for me and I also got a free game (which was part of a sale the week prior)...in lieu of the 100 dollars off...he gave me a 320 GB second HD for $80 (a savings of over 110).

 

I bought my 6860 and it went on sale the next week. All you have to do is take in your receipt and they will give you the difference.

 

when was this free game thing happening? i just bought my 6860 yesterday and wouldn't mind a free copy of call of duty 4. i'm probably gonna wait until july 4th to see how cheap they're gonna be on sale

 

I too, am waiting for it to go back on sale. I think I might pick it up next week though anyway. I already pretty much have all the games I want, plus I signed up for a Best Buy Rewards MasterCard which with all the rewards I am getting a game is going to be free anyway. Plus, if it does go on sale within 14 days after that, I can go get my money back and maybe even another free game. So it's really a win-win situation.

That, of course, is pending on if my two local Best Buys still have them in stock. They only had one left yesterday and I'm eagerly waiting for my Card to come in the mail. By eager I mean sitting out by the mailbox on a daily basis threatening the mail man if he doesn't have it .

The waiting is killing me!

 

To all you waiting, the laptop will blow you away. It is worth the wait; the 8800GTS is no slouch. OC it a bit, and its even better.

I will say though, that a CPU upgrade is very justifiable; while stock is not bad, the GPU really flies with more CPU behind it.

 

I've almost been talked out of it a couple times, but then I just think about how well it will work with a T9300 in it with the video card stock or just slightly overclocked, and I get all giddy just thinking about upgrading it. I can't wait to get one of these to take to the next LAN.

I'll tell you what will suck though. Is if they go on sale next week and I don't get my card until like Wednesday and they are all out . Lol. It's alright though, I'll get one eventually.

 

It's not really free. The previous sale price of 1249 USD (laptop only) gets combined with the 50 dollar game so they market it as 1299, including some Geek Squad update. This Geek Squad service is something I honestly think one can do by his/herself in a few minutes.

So technically you're really paying for the game.

 

Don't tell the geek squad guys you can do it yourself. I told the guy that and he gave me the usual "Well unless you want to work for 13 hours straight to do what our program does, you can't handle it." If it would have been me buying a laptop and not my brother, I would have told him where to shove it.

 

I got the early BB ad with my NYT today. The 6860FX will be on sale tomorrow at $1099.99, a reduction of $250. It's on the last page of the flyer.

 

Wow what an incredible deal at that price.

Doesn't quite beat my one off special of $900 for a display unit which I then exchanged for a brand new unit due to a faulty keyboard

 

I actually do not need a new laptop. Was going to wait for the new Montevina and Centrino 2 wifi-wimax later on this year.

But the Gateway interested me. I noticed that you upgraded your CPU and have quite gaming system. Are you really pleased with your Gateway 6860FX?

 

It's the best PC I've ever had (desktop or laptop) and I've had quite few over the years. Being able to do anything you want where ever you are is just superb. It's also the first time that an affordable laptop is able to play the latest games at full native res with high detail (bar Crysis of course).

At that price you cannot go wrong.

are you serious or are you pulling our legs. i was in BB tonight trying to pull the trigger but didnt in leu of hoping it went on sale. . . now i have to wait up till 12:01am to test the Legend of The Sale.

 

WOW! Fantastic! My newspaper arrives at 5am and I'll plan to be at Best Buy at 10am sharp when my local store opens to snag a copy before they're all gone!

Do they have to have it in stock for the price adjustment. Because the one by me has it out of stock. It will be my 14th day tomorrow (well actually today since it is 1AM). I work, but I will go in late if I have to go to another best buy because the one by me has them out of stock. I think being an hour late is worth $250

Nope just walk in with your receipt and they will either credit your card or give you cash. Happy days!

 

It'll be for at least a week. BestBuy only update their prices once a week - every Sat night / Sun morning.

Yea online it's only $1099... Which makes me mad because I can't get it until my card comes in the mail...which probably wont be until Wednesday at the earliest, which mean's they will most likely be sold out ....

 

Good Luck with that. Those laptops will be sold out in the stores before the end of the day. They most definitely wont last a week and I believe they are closing out the 6860 and there wont be any more.

 

I bought mine this morning right when they opened and there were 4 others behind me getting theirs.

 

I was able to get a price adjustment!
$265 back. Hell to the yeah.
I am going to be buying a nice 24" monitor for my desktop now!

 

I didn't have time to go get it today so I ordered mine online with the store pick-up option. They put one aside and I have 8 days to pick it up . Going to get it in the morning.

I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight knowing what awaits me in the morning .

 

I still can't decide if I want to pick up this gateway or not, it is one hell of a deal right now, but just not sure if I want a 17", they are just so big, I was originally looking for a 15".

 

I say if you can get over the size factor, go get it. I haven't talked to anyone who has bought it and regretted it. I can't wait to pick it up in the morning.

the 6831 didnt come with gears of war it just has a sticker on the palmrest of gears of war but some of the bestbuy deals let you pick a $50 dollar game free when you bought it .

 

I just bought this laptop on Thursday and went back in with the weekend ad and was refunded a full 276$

Wow, feels good. I just picked it up at 10 this morning and brought it home. Had to go to work after that so haven't been able to post till now.

I'll crack it open soon and check it out and see. Also, as for the 17" vs 15", I asked the guy at bestbuy to unlock it so I could pick it up and see the time I went before today. Its not bad at all for me. I'm not a big guy by any means, but it wasn't too bulky or anything. Maybe my opinion of it will slightly change after a few weeks of using it around.

Thanks everyone for the tips on sales and information and all! This $1099 deal is really quite amazing for the laptop you are getting. Beats the pants off the price of a dell, imo. And, the components (CPU aside) are equal if not superior to other $1,500-$2,000 machines.

I'll have to do a brief review in the official user thread after a week or so.

 

It's a good deal for such a powerful laptop, I'll probably pick one up later this week.

 

i wish i would have gotten that deal, but i did go in a week later to get the $100 price match when i got mine.i plan to buy a T8300 this week or next.

off topic but my card reader wouldn't work, so i uninstalled/reinstalled driver a few times and still didn't work.so i loaded up a live cd of backtrack3 to see if the reader would load then, and nothing.loaded windows back up thinking it was broken and windows loaded up the driver and it works again! weird
