7805u - X9100 vs T9800 vs T9900

I heard that the mobo max is 3.0 ghz- Anyone here running their X9100 or T9900 on a 7805u without underclocking the cpu?

It's not like the .06 ghz would make any performance increase at all.

 

the t9900 is better it consumes 35 watt compared to 45 watts which will allow for a cooler cpu and less power consumption. also, since you won't be able to overclock, an extreme edition cpu is not needed and is just going to be more expensive. otherwise, if a t9800 is cheaper, check that out.

 

I know. But the prices on ebay are so close to each other (except for the T9900, which is more expensive), I'm just wondering why would anyone get an X9100 for their 7805u when it cannot be overclocked for this model (yet). Also, the fact the mobo would only support up to 3.0 ghz, wouldn't you have to underclock the X9100 (or T9900).

edit: I take that back. Right now, T9600 (2.8 ghz) is the best bang for the buck at $217-

 

Why would the mobo cap the CPU speed? Doesn't make sense to me... although if you have the money to upgrade CPU, do you really need it? If you max out your CPU for calculations or graphics work then get the X9100, you can undervolt it easily. List out all your CPU options w/ prices and what your usage is.

 

None of them are worth $200 over the T9600, so I'd take that one.

 

Since we are talking cpu's, has any one gotten a Quad Core to work on this Lappy? The new p-7808 has a Quad and all internals are the same. Sooo, I went and bought a q9300 Quad core and my system won't boot with it.Why won't it work. Put the T9600 back in and it's fine.

What's the version of your BIOS? From what I understand, the heatsink needs to be upgraded as well to cover both cpus-

This is true about the heat sink. I don't think thats why it's not POSTing though. It will power on but thats it. No POST. Nothing on display. And only about an 8th of an inch of the cores isn't touching the sink. Man I hope someone figures this out or I shelled some big bucks for nothing. Crap....

 

Hello- I'm sorry for reviving this post but is a T9900 OK for gaming? I have the P8400 in it right now and I tend to game for long periods of time (when I have the time). Is the 35W going to produce too much heat for extended gaming? I do have a fan platform to put the laptop on. Thank you in advance.

 

The T9900 is great for gaming. Think about it, the P8400 works fine with most games right now and the T9900 is the top of the line in terms of core 2 duo cpu's. 3.06 Ghz, and having a level 2 cache of 6MB compared to the P8400 which runs at 2.2 GHz and has 3MB level 2 cache.

Yes the cpu takes a little bit more power but you can undervolt it which makes the CPU run cooler, I have the P8400 undervolted right now and ordered a T9900 which should get here this weekend. I have even read someone make a post on here saying the T9900 runs cooler than the P8400. Don't know if that's true or not though.

 

Just went to a LAN on Sat with my notebook and the CPU behaved great, ran cool and ran games well.

 

Does the T9900 run cooler than the stock P8400?

 

lol, good question. By ran cool I meant that my notebook didn't melt or showed signs of over heating after a long night of shooting each other up and I have had notebooks over heat before.

 

I guess I just meant what temps do you get normally (i.e. surfing the net, word, videos) and what do you get while running 3dmark or a cpu stress test. Under normal conditions my P8400 runs around 90-100F and gaming it can get into the 120's F.

 

I'm fairly sure this was covered and that no one was ever able to run a Quad on the 78 series due to BIOS limitations.
