the web cam works fine... but the built in MIC does NOT work with Windows 7

I am very surprised to be the FIRST person to discover this and post this BUG.

Your not the first person with this problem, there are other threads on this. Use the audio conexant drivers from the gateway website then the mic should work.

Also make sure that the mic is set as default for recording source.

+1 to the recommendation for the different audio drivers -- that made the difference for me (on RC1, Win7...)

    Hello,

I am a very experienced Windows user, and I use my microphone a lot and have always solved all of my microphone problems in the past. However, with Windows 7, I can't seem to do anything that will make the microphone work.

I am running the Gateway P7805u FX, and the microphone will not pick up any sound.

The drivers I have installed are the latest CONEXANT drivers from the Gateway driver website for Windows 7 64bit. (I am running Windows 7 64 bit Professional.)

I also tried just using the default Microsoft sound drivers, but those didn't seem to pick up any sound from the mic either. I also checked physical connections, and everything is plugged in and the microphone is turned on. In fact, I was just using it just before I installed Windows 7 earlier today, so there's likely nothing wrong with the microphone itself.

In my Recording devices tab, I see the microphone there, it reads:

    Microphone
    Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221
    Default Device

With the green check. There are no other recording devices listed there, and this is also with "Show disabled / disconnected devices" both checked.

Microphone levels and boost are set both at maximum but no sound is picked up. Driver details also state that the "device is working properly." Sound drivers are working otherwise, I can hear music just fine.

Normally, when I have gone over all of these options, the microphone would start to work, but nothing seems to help. I even tried to install the RealTek drivers before, but those didn't do anything. They didn't even pick up my soundcard as they are probably not designed specifically for the soundcard I have in this laptop.

    Anyone made any progress? Thanks.

P.S: Neither the built in microphone for the webcam or the desktop microphone I am using are being picked up. And, as I mentioned earlier, there is only one recording device even listed, so I don't know what's happening to one of them. The webcam itself works, though, I tested it with MSN messenger webcam / video call.

I upgraded to W7 Pro and used the Gateway driver and have no issues with the mic at all. I have used the mic several times.
