Yup, before October and different firmware. This is giving me hope for my next drive when I get it back.
-
I just got mt CT10N, and it does not work with Power DVD 9 ultra, My computer shows it as a CT10L too.
-
Could you go to post #13 here and follow those instructions and post you info. Also who was your seller?

Maybe it has something to do with the AACS protection, thats what AnyDvD removes.
-
So of the 4 CT10N with CT10L firmwares, the 3 with YC07 won't work unless you use AnyDVD and the one with W181 works, but there was some sort of a region bug at first. All drives that reported as CT10N with firmware WA02 work, about sums it up thus far.
-
-
noooooooooooooooooooooo... i ordered one from there with the understanding that they verified what firmware version was on it.... I hope I don't get one like you from faze.....grrrrrrrrrrrrr if i do.... that makes two returns for me that in my opinon were the wrong product being delivered.
-
-
Should make your return and my possible return easier... I will have my drive tomorrow morning. -
3 different firmwares now gents; WA02, YC07 and W181. Not before I packed mine up to ship, it was actually marked externally as having WA02 firmware and it still shipped with YC07, you might wanna mention that.
-
The person at fazecomputers is a real stand up guy, he agreed to exchange the dvd drive with one with the right firmware. To help yourself and him, you may want to make sure to state the right firmware, he honestly did not know. Its refreshing to deal with a cool seller like this. I will update everyone when I get it all sorted out.

-
just got mine...made in october 2008 but way early in the month vs late in the month..... different labels as well... about to install... wish me luck
-
Sweet mine works..... detected as CT10N Firmware WA02... works in Windvd 9 and Cyberlink powerdvd. The differences between the drives are....
HELP COMING SOON!!! Trust me -
-
ok,
Here are my findings...
Some drives are made by LG and some are made by Hitachi and some Goldstar
Here are my 2 drives:
Attached....
The on that appears to be made by Hitachi works great. The one that appears to be made by LG does not. I am assuming that the logo in the upper left states who made it.
I hope this helps in some way... Now to send the other drive back to China....
Again, the LG labeled drive below cam with firmware YC07 instead of what was on the label. In doing research the HP HDX16 series comes with these same drives with the exact same firmware and supports lightscribe.Attached Files:

Interesting, well I'm hoping I can get a working drive back from China.
-
fazecomputers also offered me an exchange for a Sony but a different model number - BC-5500S. Firmware on this one is from 1/2009, pretty recent. I think I am just going to return my CT10N for now until the whole "Playing Blu-Ray's on PC's" matures a little more. Seems everyone is having problems with this because of Blu-Ray changing so often!
-
He offered me a sony too, BC-5500S, does anyone know if this drive will work?
-
I heard there were issues with the face of the 7811 not fitting on the Sony one. I want a working CT10N. Cheap and simple that I think it will catch on and alot of mods will be out for it in a little while.
EDIT: If you look, you can find these drives now for $100 a pop. -
I did a quick google search and this drive stopped working even for some HP users and they couldn't get firmware updates from HP for it and this was the stock drive for their systems!
This one does have a pretty recent Firmware release though, but I worry about future Firmware updates when they fall out of date. If it is an HP drive and they can't even deliver Firmware updates (HP Specific I would assume) then what about us with Gateways . . . -
I will stick with a CT10N also, fazecomputers is sending me one with firmware WR06
-
Ohh, WR06, new firmware. You should ask him if he knows how to rip it.
EDIT: I have a feeling with Blu-ray's ever evolving security we are all gonna get to know firmware updates very well. -
He told me he didn't have any CT10N left with Firmware WA02 but he didn't mention WR06! I asked for a refund for now, but if he offers me WR06 maybe I'll go for that too.
-
So we have working
WA02 (CT10N, WA02 on sticker)
W181 (CT10L WA02 on sticker)
not working:
YC07 (CT10L, WA02 on sticker)
and unknown:
WR06 (???)
Not to mention different manufacture stickers. Weee!
Sending a link to this threat to Battery918 to read as home work.
EDIT: I'm digging up better resources here then on any of the forums dedicated to this stuff, WTH! And I know one of the CDFreak admin is reading this! -

Updated first post with some info.

Now things are getting interesting:
http://www.lgcommercial.com/downloads/pdf/SPEC_CT10N_120802_PR.pdf -
what are they looking to market in the US now.. is that what that advertisment is?
-
look at the read speeds, they're more then double then the OEM CT10N. I know the CT10N is the OEM drive in certain brand notebooks (Acer, Gateway and Asus), but the fact that they are releasing one with a 4.8x read speed now is really interesting to see.
-
yeah.. did notice that... interesting.. i'm starting to question the actual specs of my drive as far as the ebay page is concerned.. is there anyway i can run some sort of diagnostics on my drive to measure the speeds??
-
First thing is first, the CT10N has been around for a while as an OEM drive (as in comes with certain notebooks) and its always been a 2x BD read. Second, this looks new, 4.8x drives are only now appearing so it can't be the classic CT10N. There is no need to question your drive...unless you got the CT10L firmware LOL. You can see your drive info with read speeds using Everest.

I just received and installed my replacement Blue Ray Drive from fazecomputers on ebay, they where great in handling this, no problem with the exchange. I put the new CT10N with FW WR06 running with Powerdvd9Ultra and it works great, just installed it in 2 mins, and it looks awesome. The key is to get the right FW WR06, if you get it from fazecomputers, be sure to message them and tell them you want the CT10N with FW WR06 and you have a Gateway FX laptop.
-
Crossing my fingers, still waiting on replacement. Next time I have a choice in the matter I buy from the US.
-
Ranger did you get your replacement yet?
Did you happen by chance to try the lightscribe function? -
No, its only been 5 business days since I send it out, give it another week and a half, over seas shipping. I also never tested the LightScribe function.

Kind of off topic but wanted to add something I find interesting. In the Everest Info I posted for my CT10N there is a none for region code vs everyone else that posted Everest Info, a region code was selected.
My basic setup is
P7811FX
2 250gb HD's
Vista HP 64 on drive 1
Win 7 64 on drive 2
Boot to either OS by BIOS boot, F10, select drive
I installed AcrSoft Total Theatre on the Vista drive a few weeks back once I got the CT10N for BD playback and everything has worked fine so far.
Last night I was playing around and installed PowerDvd 8 Ultimate on the Win 7 drive. What I found out was that on initial launch of Arcsoft Total Theatre on the Vista drive it never asked me to select a region code and never has -vs- where on initial launch of PowerDvd 8 Ultimate on the Win 7 drive it did and would not contine further until a region code was selected.
Anyone else using Arcsoft Total Media Theatre???? -
-
arcsoft doesn't work for me either and i have the ct10l. I'm thinking about testing lightscribe out to see if that even works. I actually have the media.
-
Just tested and lightscribe works on the mislabled CT10Ls. I bet alot of rom drives that don't support lighscribe can if provided with firmware that enables it. I'm not to sure what the internal difference between a lighscribe and non lightscribe drive is. Maybe all ct10ns and ct10ls are the same drive with a different firmware. It wouldn't be the first time in computer hardware history for a company to do that. Sometimes it cost more to manufacture 2 devices even if one will be sold for alot less. Its happened with video cards when one card cost something like 200 and another cost like 400+. I've saved alot of money in the past by doing my homework and reflashing a device. Now all we need is a firmware
.
I was thinking I think the T10n or is it T20n is a much older drive and has had firmware updates in the past. I wonder if the flashing utility used for that drive would work? I can't see the utility used to flash these drives being specific for every model. Usually there is one exe file and a bin of some sort. ALso sometimes they let you save your old firmware which would be awsome if we could get the firmware from a working drive untill something better comes along. I can't see anybody hurting their drive if you are just saving the original firmware. -
Anyone having problems with BD playback? (7811/7805)
