Also, many people forget thermal throttling. If you OC and the chips get too hot they will typical reduce clock speed until the heat diminishes. A lot of people OC only to find their results getting worse.

And their really isn't much room to dissipate heat in an FX - it is small for a 17" gaming notebook.

the true test for 3dmark is 1280x1024 but thats still and awsome score nonetheless . see if you can hook it up to and external monitor thats higher then 1440x900 and see what you get or run 3dmark at 1440x900 which is pretty close pixel wise to 1280x1024.

I would like some insight on how to use Memset also, downloaded the eta, but none of the changes seemed to do anything, each WEP was exactly the same 4.9 for memory...

Well I have a FX 171X and my res goes to 1920-1200 the first benchmarks I did was set at 1280-1024 and I got 9242 oc at 620-930 stock was 7980 at that res now stock at 1280-800 is 8695 wich the 1280-800 is the res I use all the time on the 17in screen.

I bought Crysis when I got this computer too and yeah, looks insane. Also like others have said, the 3Dmark score really doesn't seem to translate directly to how any given game is going to perform.

I'm using my native resolution and have everything set on high and am extremely happy with how Crysis runs. (also using the latest beta driver and have tweaked the hell out of my computer). I almost don't want to see my fps as I'm happy with the gameplay and don't want to turn into a FPS whore.

Off the top of my head, here are a couple games FPS readings with EVERYTHING turned on and all settings maxed out, at native resolution (1440x900)
    • Call of Duty 4 - constant 30-50fps (even on the largest of multiplayer servers, 50+ people)
    • World in Conflict - constant 25-40fps (rarely any stutter)

    all at native res:
Oblivion - 40-50fps with everything maxed
Gears of War - 40-45fps with everything maxed (DX10 AA)
    Biochock - 35-40fps max
    UTIII - 50fps max
Neverwinter Nights 2 - 30 fps (almost maxed)
HL2 (and Episodes, Portal and TF2) 40-60 fps (really maxed except for Ep 2 and TF2 where you have to turn the AA down slightly)

Almost all games have a wee bit of audio stuttering on the FX do you folks experience it?

A game or HD video stutters in just a certain way. I know from my days as a Product Manager at a PC Audio company that certain low end audio solutions choke on complex audio rendering. The combo of IDT/Sigmatel and Vista's new audio architecture exacerbate the problem.

    In XP the problem dispappears.

    P-6831FX laptop with upgrades (x9000, 4gb ram, 2x320 RAID 0)

Today I upgraded to my cpu to a $550 (ebay) x9000. So far, I have spent just under 2k on my P-6831 laptop. I justified the cpu upgrade cause the stock laptop is just such a sweet bargain. She really deserved this little upgrade :) Here are my 3dMark06 benchmarks with 1280x800 lcd and stock drivers...

You got it from Emblaze, right? He would only go as low as $600 for me. He did not sell 5 so I might try again or go for a x7900.

Can you run some tests on strategy games like World in Conflict, Supreme Commander and Company of Heroes? Your system should really shine there.

yep I would break down and get a faster CPU best bang for your buck is a T9300 you can get it for 350 or a T8300 for around 250.

anyone load up Rivatuner 2.08 and check out the hardware monitoring during 3dmark? I believe the system is throttling itself down, thats why people are only getting a 200 mark increase while overclocking should be more.. CAn anyone confirm?

    Hi!
I could buy a new Core2Duo T7700 meron CPU for $212 (also a -$60 discount for my T5450 so the end price would be $152)...does it worth it to buy for this price? How much performance increase would be that in games and in Windows Vista experience index and expesially in 3DMark06? Or it's better to wait for a T9300 Penryn or for an Extreme processor?

Do you overclock the CPU through the bios or is there any other way? Because the max in the bios is 3GHz if I am not mistaken.

been doing some testing with crysis.... and it seems that if you run the game on medium, but with a res of 1920x1200 it looks better than running it on very high at res starting at 800x600 and going up to 1280x1024.... but i could be wrong, but love the responce and the graphics at medium with high res screen!

    Assassin's Creed runs great.

Autodetected settings were 1440*900 maxed except for AA (1 out of 3).

The game runs much better than it did on PS3 - it looks better and runs much higher resolution too.

This game is not for everyone, but I think the reviews were pretty harsh. Free running in ancient middles eastern cities does not get old for me.

Controls are OK - I actually did a chapter with the touchpad.

Technically with mad soldering skills you could swap the GPU too as long as it is pin compatible - 8800m GTX and (maybe) 9800m.
