thanks!
the q9550 is one step below the the q9650 2.83 vs 3.0 both 12 meg cache. i looked at the extreme editon, but since fsb works with this model.. i can just over clock the cpu that way. and the ram i already have on order at a better price. actually i got the cpu/hdd's and ram from somewhere else. i just ordered the shell from them with the dual gt cards in it.
was like 1799.99 + 490.00 + 95.00 + 45.00
box---------------vga cards-screen-wirelss n card
-
wow.. sweet deal man. less than $2500..not too shabby. You'll have to try and beat my 3dmark score
-
and it's a bit more than 2500.00 that was without the chip/memory/drives.
i wanted that base system for them dual gt cards. you get that, the rest is easy.you can pretty much use everything you already have. (you know..extra stuff) then upgrade it as funds become available. you and i have both put in well over 2500 on each of these systems doing upgrades. this includes our dv9700's 6860's 7811's, when all we needed was the right machine. so when ya coming E??? i know you. (sort of anyways. *LOL*)it will run you about 2900.00 for everything including shipping or get the base model and just throw in your parts. you would just need a chip from a desktop machine and you have drives and probably already have 800mhz ram laying around so you would spend about 2500.00 -
Ive only got 4 GB RAM, and 400 GB worth of good HDDs, and an extra 17" screen, and a x9100 Ive been itchin to sell.. and yea.. I have considered the Sager numerous times. I was on the verge when I got the 7811. And if it wouldnt have been a month until the gt sli's were to be released.. since Im impatient, I woulda got the sager. But the 7811 was perfect timing. Now, Im thinkin you may convince me to switch things up a bit. I honestly would love to have one..and it's not the money, well..it is the money. I just know I'd take a brow beating giving up the 7811 and the x9100. I'd never get what they're worth. You know, since they're "used" and all(whatever
) If I could pull an easy $2100 for my x9100 and 7811FX, I'd be all over the Sager. Heck, I've spent $2500 plus on this one alone.. and then the dv9700 was $1600..by the way, not sure what the hell I was thinkin with that one, but have since donated it to my mother. That's $4100+, easily.. I could have a bad@SS rig eh? Anyhow, I'm strongly considering it. Please, just pressure me occasionally.
Oh, and rubbing it in after you get it would be appreciated.
-
*LOL*
i just off'ed my dv9700 to one of my homie's for a grand. took back the 7811 and got my 1350.00 back so that was 2350.00 to start right there. and even with technology changing. your still running dual cards. and at stock. it's still 14k 3d marks without any oc'ing. and your right...i didn't know what the hell i was thinking when i went the dv route myself. but the gateway got me on the right path, but i have already out grown her. very good machine indeed! but time for me to step up my game plan. it's going to probably be a while before they get to a single card out doing the current sli solution. look how long it's taken for the 7950 gtx to get out done....
and your right about getting what you paid for...only down fall about the whole thing..... -
How much for that x9100? I might be interested for the right price
-
-
what? she on the selling block?
-
For the right price
-
Just throw it in the for sale section and see if you get any takers. Hopefully even if you dump your rig you can stay intouch with the bios and gateway people for abit incase there are any updates.
-
well.. I have 2 of 'em. Heh. I dunno.. I built a sager to see what it would come out to. I just cant see spending that much money, and going thru the efforts to have a little better FPS in Crysis. The 7811 is nice, it's mine, and I don't have to invest any more money to upgrade it. I will likely just hold onto it for a while.
and when the 9800gt sli's and gtx sli's begin to drop in price..and gain in performance.. I'll reconsider.
-
I don't want to kill your market but check this out.
I have another one with 400gb 7200rpm raid for $2100. -
I can run every game i have maxxed out except crysis/warhead and even then i can still play at native res with a few things turned to medium etc so im very happy with my rig atm . There was a time when i wanted the best everytime something new came along but i think im getting to old to worry about it at this point and its why i keep even hesitating on even buying a new CPU . The sager is one mean rig though and i know john is going to have fun going head to head with those guys over there till it explodes
.
-
-
been wanting to do sli for a while but wanted to wait till it really showed when you used it.. and now seems to be that time.
-
Only one day to go john! Your new addiction is arriving tomorrow!
-
yeah, had i struck a deal with alitunay, i might have upgraded a few parts on that order...*LOL*
-
I see you took the LCD out of the 6860.. that's still a good deal on the rig though!
-
-
Good move. Gotta have a happy customer!
-
i think i see it every once in a great while...it's on the left side of the screen about the size of a needle point head.
-
Id say give it 2 days after john gets his and posts some numbers and you will have one on order
.
-
Quad: 12 beers, and half a bottle of ol' Cap'n Morgan..you are likely right sir. -
i had a stuck pixel on my Wuxga screen that i put into my 6860 and it drove me batty because it was bright blue and about an inch from the bottom but that little thing was so bright and staring at me all the time i couldnt handle it .
-
this one does nothing but blend in to most all the colors. except black. im gonna use it as a back up.. it took about 4 months for that pixel to show up, but i still love the screen regardless.
-
Oops wrong quote ") -
I used to drink quite abit of Canadian Club myself but decided i needed to quit as i enjoyed it abit to much -
lol
nothing wrong with quoting yourself.. -
Ya when i catch myself quoting myself i know i dont need to drink anymore i already have enough issues
.
-
Hah.. At least you're not in denial
Oh, I mentioned yesterday bout an online site that provides samples of thermal materials..
http://www.chomerics.com/products/therm_gapfillers.htm
The third one down is what I thought would be most effective. I ordered the 976 sample.. posted more details in royk50's TZS0/copper mod thread. -
I *really* don't want to have to exchange this thing. I've got a 2887 and everything's purring perfectly (knocks on wood) except for the single friggin' dead pixel. This thing is covered for a year by Gateway itself, I'm almost tempted to contact them and say I want a new LCD panel.
I don't want to lose a perfectly good notebook and possibly get a lemon in the form of the replacement. Not to mention I've already nuked the standard Vista Home Premium install and intend to dual-boot XP and Vista64 Ultimate over two drives.
Granted, one of the reasons things might be going perfectly well with the thing is I've got it propped up at a 35 degree angle on a metal mesh stand and have a Vornado fan blowing underneath and across it. I've never seen *anything* get above 60C, including the TZSx sensors. -
-
Will gateway even do anything for one dead pixel ? . They may have a dead pixel policy thats 5 or more etc. If your going to be paying shipping etc and having them mess with your machine, i would just consider replacing the LCD yourself and spending the cash on one if it bugs you that much. god knows if they do replace it and wreck something else in the process then your just going to be playing the shipping and phone game over the next month or so and im not sure i would go through all that for 300ish dollars.
-
but as for the dead pixel....dont know... dead pixels are starting to be the great debate of late..... -
if i have no dead pixel, is it possible to develop one? i dunno if that sounds right but is it possible for a pixel on my screen to die?
-
-
This doesn't mean a perfectly good pixel won't die (always black), stuck (always stays red, green, etc), or hot (always stays white) over the life of the monitor. It's less common, but it happens (physical damage, bad luck, etc). -
The only way to "kill" pixels purposefully is to use a torture tool with a low cycle time and just let it run for hours and hours on end. UDPixel has a "fix" feature that allows you to create 10 independently-placeable "stuck pixel" fixers on specific parts of the display.
As for Gateway's dead pixel policy, it doesn't look good. A post I found about one of their desktop displays: "Additionally, Gateway's dead-pixel policy is far too unforgiving, which is why I didn't buy Gateway direct. I can't use a monitor with 11-20 or more dead pixels."
Furthermore: "Under said policy, I must have more than 10 dead pixels in a localized area to be able to return it."

Been away for a while but was intrigued by the topic title here. I was actually back at BB exactly one week ago to try my luck with another 7811. Turned out that the store didn't have any left in stock, and none of the other stores in my area had any available either. This was a week ago, but checking the website again today I see the same thing - still no stock, at any store.
Leads me to believe that Gateway may be holding back shipments - either because there's a newer revision/model coming or they just refuse to accept any more RMA's for the 7811. I am glad to see this as it shows to me BB/Gateway are aware that there is an issue with the product. I just hope for the sake of all those gamers that Gateway puts something on the table worth getting our teeth into. Once burned, twice shy yes. But twice burned? Well we can only wait and find out.
BTW: Tapping away here on my new HP 2133 mininote. Runs solitaire at 60FPS like a champ! -
It's available:

Calm down, people. No computer manufacturer will quit a successful laptop line nor "revamp" or introduce a "better" version of this laptop.
Here's the cycle so far:
In stock ($1449) -> Sale (every month or so for $1249) -> Sale ends or it's the end of the month/first week of the next month -> Gateway replenishes its stock of 7811 FX laptops -> Repeat cycle.
Rumor wise, I think that the 7811 FX will drop down to $1049 or $1249 with a free game this holiday season since Best Buy usually does offer interesting sales then. -
bleh.. it's tryin to compete with the 7811.. and it's still santa rosa platform
Maybe if it had a GTX then I'd consider. Where the hell is the x305-q702 by the way? They have a 705 out now, and not the 701..via BestBuy.
And the 705 doesnt have e-sata..but otherwise is exact same P.O.S.
-
-
I dunno man.. that rig has a *ton* of room inside the chassis. At least 2-3 times that of the 7811. I could likely hide my cat under the mobo, case sealed. Eh, oh well.. Your new habit arrive yet? -
someone caught a snap shot of best buy having one at one time....
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3963588&postcount=2
now if it had sli, i would have grabbed one of them for testing...lol -
oh..i know buddy. That's where i caught wind of it..they had it for like, 2 days on the website for order..backordered 1-2 weeks. I wonder if anyone ever ordered it
-
im sure they ordered it alright....but did they get it!.. is the real question...*LOL*
edit: man im ready to play! and with this bios..there is room for change. and since bios man is now talking. LOL. i will see what he might be able to do with a np9262 bios. then i might upgrade to an extreme chip with an unlocked cpu. -
not a bad idea.. want an x9100?
Oh, and check out the free thermal pads I got in BIOS forum. I believe I put the info bout them in royk50's copper mod forum.
-
you already know that wont work buddy...*L*
yep, checked the thermals. waiting to see your blue ones. -
God, what a waste. 1440x900 screen and a ****ed 9800GTX.
Best Buy discontinuing 7811FX?
