pretty much....

I just couldnt stand the look of that thing when i saw it . If Barbie had her own line of laptops thats what they would look like.
-
Two of the Best Buys near me have the 7811 listed for $1319 and mark Clearance.
-
It is true. The 7811 is, as of midnight tonight, supposed to be out of all stores, meaning the prices will drop until there are no more. I searched for an hour but could find nothing hinting about the next model or if there would be one.
-
Maybe something with a quadcore is in the works but i just cant see that coming from a budget machine even wholesale on those chips is bloody expensive as hell. That new leather line of machines is coming though so it could be that as well that will eventually take its place.
-
I'm speculating the new descriptor will be the 7860FX. I'd bet on it, but I'm probably wrong.
-
probably just gateway run out of money to supply 7811fx.
or maybe gateway is prepairing another fx with mobile quad for the incoming holiday season. -
been trying to find something on that mc series..but im thinking they will do a 9600m gt or a 9700m. lighted keyboard or not...big 10/4 negative! if they do....they run it with a 9800m gt 55nm then it would be all good.
-
ok.. I haven't done any research on this topic. But, I can absolutely understand *why* they would be discontinuing. There have been numerous issues with the machine.. Hell, I still can't solve TZS0, others have driver issues..BSODs.. Maybe there is an issue with the MOBO, power supply, or chipset, and Gway jumped the gun. You notice this is the only Montevina they've released..riight? That's one of the downsides to new technology.. *shrugs* it happens.
Only other speculation is that they are not making a profiit, unlike the 6860FX with the lower end CPU, mid-range GPU, and a technology that was over a year old. The GPU we have needs a lot of room to breathe, it's almost top of the line! This is a slim rig, and heat can gather quickly if not ventilated properly. Im running flat on the table right now, just to test temps..and I'm 7-8c higher just typing..
I do love the concept of the 7811.. and I have tried my hardest to support it since it came out. But, I do have to say that compared to my *gasp* HPs.. There is no comparison.(not counting the lack of HP performance models) The lack of support, the constant maintenance, and the compatability issues are a hinderance.. However, I am picky..and would likely not be 100% satisfied, regardless of what rig I have. Unless it's johnksss's
Long story short, I have learned a lot from this experience.. And this isn't a dear john letter.. just stating that my original hesitance to Gateway is kinda..supported, if they're pulling out cause of some ongoing issues. -
oh..and just an add-on statement.. Im using a can of compressed air to chill certain parts of the notebook. looking for this elusive TZS0... just to see if I can fix it.
Gonna remove keyboard and give it some internal shots of chill, and see what happens
-
yeah, i was getting a bit attached to the fx line, but was running out of room to grow.... if i wasn't such a tinker and a nosey mofo, i probably would have stayed with it....
-
In any case it's sad to think our 7811s are orphaned so soon. How many weeks have they been out - like 8 or 10? Olde 7811 we hardly knew ye... -
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9053196&type=product&id=1218012518208
im wondering if this is the low end of the new line..... -
-
-
The inside almost looks similar to the new 15inch sager with that brushed aluminum. If they put a beefy card into one of those with the glass screen and light up keyboard i may have to snag one eventually .
-
-
I hope they don't discontinue the 7811FX. It's so awesome. For $1250, you get a laptop that can play any current game on at least medium settings. Another computer with the same specs will cost you twice as much. I would rather deal with a little heat issue that can be fixed by using a laptop cooler, than spending over a thousand dollars on an Alienware or Sager.
-
i actually like the idea of the whole thing being leather or you can purchase a leather case. i thought it was gay till i bought an all black one for the macbook. now it's like...****, i was looking for one for the gateway..*LOL* i could set it on anything, including cars with out worrying about the car or the laptop getting damaged
-
Lol if the whole thing was covered in leather i cant imagine what it would look like a year from now especially with how much heat these machines push out.
It would probably look something like that landlord lady from Something about mary . -
-
-
-
.
And john ya fingerprints suck but leather soaks up oil like a mofo but then again this wont be leather it will be Pleather so who knows it may workout well. last i checked though leather insulates heat does it not ?. -
And I may have discovered the solution to TZS0.. gonna try something. Im going to hook up a can of compressed air, upside down..via a bracket bolted to the back of my computer, and anytime TZS0 reached 60c or so, which seems to be the breaking point.. I'm gonna push down on the base of the can(it's upside down), and disperse freezing air on the chipset, cpu, and heatsink. Why didnt I think of this before?
-
Lmao E- You seriously need to make a video of that .
-
side note: and my macbook has no oil nor does it soak it up. and it's been on there for about the last 6 months now -
Ya i like my women Oily and i wont say much more as it will just get offensive
.
-
gateway MC7801U this thing is so ungateway , low end configuration sells at
high price $949+tax, even with $200 off, its still high compared to other brands. -
The P- series chasis has been around for a couple years now, so im sure its time they moved on to something a bit more with the times . Everyone is going 16:9 screens now instead of 16:10 so people can watch movies in the correct aspect ratio and lightup keyboards are the newest fad as well .
-
ive never typed in the dark..well, Ive browsed some sites in the dark...but never tried typing a conversation or anything. Kinda difficult to type with one hand.
-
Just checked the BB website; 7811s are in stock for next day shipment @ $1449, also listed as available for pickup at most stores. The 6830s have been moved to Outlet and are clearly discontinued. Maybe we're digging the 7811's grave a bit too soon?
-
-
sure u dont want to upgrade to the 7811 hops??? 4th to last chance buddy?...*LOL*
-
gateway is crazy, the fx lines has already been refreshed twice this year?
and there is still 3 more months to go for the year and a major holiday season.
nontheless, i want a 16" with mobile quad q9100 in a 2 inch 3 fan chassis. -
P7811 is no longer on Gateway's site: http://www.gateway.com/systems/series/529598056.php?cmpid=ms_pseries
-
It's still on the gateway website but if you click on the model number or buy it now, you get redirected to a "page not found". http://www.gateway.com/programs/pseries/specs.php

latest best buy experience. 7811 on clearance for 1357 BUT with geeksquad $60 'enhancement'. so i'm in deep thought should i, should i not. BB employee comes over, he says there's only one left cause the're making way for new models of gateway. he goes to check and its the p2888 model he says.
i go to some other store for a while to think. come back in an hour go back to the comp. some other BB employee comes over and i tell him i don't want that geeksquad $60 thingy. he goes on the comp; and he says they actually have 7 of them, not just one as the other guy claimed. i said i'm buying if its the p2888 model. he goes to check and they're all p2887 he claims. i split.
so whats goin' on . Is BB getting desperate to rid these or what.
p.s geeksquad guy seemed like an arrogant douche so i didn't approach him. -
more than likely...there was one 2888 and 7 2887's. (speculation of course)
*LOL* but ain't no telling. just depends on who really knows what.
edit: but has anyone been paying attention to the new ocz whitebook?? they may be bucking for sagers/xps/alienware on title of gaming machine of the year. (if it's stable) -
Darn. The 7811 FX was a beast for its price. There is no laptop under $1,500 that can score over 9,000 on 3DMark '06. Good thing I got mine a week ago. I think Gateway realized it couldn't make any money selling those machines, when laptops made by Alienware met those specs with price tags of over $2,500.
-
(just guessing)
-
diziam!!! 23 minutes huh?
-
Can anyone please tell me the location of a store where the P-7811FX is on clearance? I plan to buy a gift card for $1450 and use that to get the laptop on Best Buy's web site with in-store pickup to avoid shipping fees and tax. I would like to know where the laptop is on clearance so I can make them price match the $1357 price that has been mentioned. I tried calling a couple stores that have them in-stock, but they did not have them on clearance.
-
I have been eyeballing that OCZ for sometime and been thinking about selling my machine to get one just for something new to play around with
. So if your in michigan and interested in buying a 7811 ill let mine go for $1150.00
.
-
-
yeah quad...that one is a serious contender there...dual vga cards either ati or nvidia (speculation on nvidia) dual drives hdmi esata and fingerprint scanner optical and lighted keyboard blu ray.... yes sir... a definite there.
-
I depends what store you check. I found one yesterday, hope it wasnt a return.
-
Ya its a pretty nice lookin rig . i used to have an Alienware 9750 which used the same exact chasis which i guess is how they managed to save some money by not having to redesign the whole thing from ground up. If i sell mine thats probably what i will go with.
-
Here is a "I just got mine" thread on the OCZ.

Specs are weak compared to 7811 ... for $1800 starting. Glad I have my old 7811.
Build an order here and knock yourself out.
