Does anyone have One_J's files? I'm trying this, and think I'm running into the same issue.

    [email protected]

    Thanks

Almost a year later and I need these files as well. Changed the device ID like a when flashing with andros rom. If someone could send the one_j files I would really appreciate it. [email protected]

Yeah, I tried your steps and the computer starts beeping randomly after I hold fn and esc like it is recovering then after about 30 sec it just stops. I waited 10 mins and restarted and still get the 1 long and 2 short beeps on startup. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

BTW I found out that I could NOT create the USB boot image correctly with Windows 7, I had to use XP. Don't ask why or how, but I'm just saying... I had to CRISIS recover my BIOS recently when I upgraded to 9C.22 and modded the bios incorrectly. Luckily I had an old work laptop with WinXP and that was able to successfully create the USB flash image correctly. The 1 long and 2 short I think means it didn't find a recovery boot image.

If you have another computer (perhaps Win7 Pro), maybe you can try the WinXP mode function and run the USB boot creation program from within that VM. That should work. Let us know.

Yeah I thought that might be the case so I downloaded xp mode for windows 7 and vmware and emulated xp. It shows the files on the flash drive now but same thing, beeps once when i hold fn and esc then it starts beeping like once a second for 10-15 secs sometimes then just stops, also now its started giving me like a static sound then beeps a few times and nothing.

Im dying without my laptop lol, wish I could get ahold of those one_j files I feel like they are my best chance at restoring this mess.

Just a little update, the flash drive is def doing something since it beeps once a second for awhile after I hit fn and esc and get the first initial beep. But I think when it gets to the video portion of the flash it doesnt recognize the device ID because the beeps will change to a lower tone and do the 1 long 2 short. This is why I think I need a bios file following one_j's instructions but bios splicing is not something I have had alot of experience with.

I appreciate your replies Albester, hopefully with your help I can get this resolved.

Just a side note as well Im using a Microsoft mobile memory mouse 1gb flash drive. It doubles as a charging station for my mouse.

I had that symptom when I didn't remove the connections from CMOS battery (underneath the wireless PCIe-x1 802.11bgn card) to the laptop. This is absolutely essential. In fact, you can leave it disconnected until you're done with CRISIS boot. I tried creating the USB boot about a zillion times with Windows 7 but honestly the only thing I got to work was WinXP. Only when I removed the CMOS battery did the motherboard do the beeping once a second and then really slow (but still proceeding). The stopping was normal for me... at the end of the process I just waited 10 minutes or so and then powered off the laptop, replaced the battery, then cleared the CMOS settings (they'll be corrupt I believe, so you'll be forced to go into CMOS).

If there's a way to create a clone of a USB device, I can make that for you but I think my device was 128MB so you'd have to have the exact same CHS mapping on your device (i.e., if I were to use linux "dd"). I wonder if you can create the USB boot device correctly using Bart's PE or something similar? I was not successful at creating CRISIS using a 2GB USB flash drive.

If something in remote inventory or equivalent was changed, it's likely you'll need some kind of JTAG access to restore it, then you'll have to figure out the JTAG chain, how to detect all teh components, then the correct device ID settings. That's not trivial by any stretch of the imagination. I think Gateway charges around $150 for a corrupt BIOS reflash.

My bad, I should have mentioned that I have the cmos battery unplugged. I have now tried cd's as well and I get more feedback from the USB. I let mine run for more than an hour this last time when I got the sequential beeps and then it changed to the lower tone and did the 1 long 2 short beeps and it was still a no go. Im gonna keep working on it through the night, if you have any more recommendations I would greatly appreciate it.

btw when you flashed yours at the end of the beeps did your media bar brighten up then dim back down?
If you just want to send me your sets of files you used to flash with, ill just load them to my usb that way I know its not something im doing. My email is [email protected]

Another day and still no success. I did find something interesting though, when I run the crisis utility the minidos.sys file it puts on the flash drive says this.

Sorry for your troubles, but just to make sure you're doing the exact thing I did, I was unable to use the newer BIOS for recovery (or maybe I tried but had wrong steps?). On the link that I posted on here I did exactly as I said. I verified the files are still there (I just used the last download link). So if I emailed them to you, it would be the same as those files posted. :)

One thing to note is that I don't believe I was successful at using the 9C.20 BIOS file renamed to BIOS.wph I had to use the 9C.17. I'm not sure why but I wasn't successful with 9C.20 but was with 9C.17. I've since updated to 9C.23 but never tried 9C.23's "BIOS.wph" file... essentially once I've flashed the BIOS that's enough to get me running windows and boot via USB flash drive (this time flashing the BIOS with a DOS boot disk emulation mode formatted drive).

Also worth noting is that a USB-to-SD card reader - to SD card did not work. I had to use a real live goodness USB Flash drive, and my 2GB version didn't work. It seemed to detect but never completed the process. I had a 4-year old Verbatim 128MB flash drive and that worked, but only in WinXP creation.

If you have access to an older Windows XP machine or perhaps a friend that does, I would try and create the files using that. I'll try using Win7's virtual XP mode and let you know if that was successful for me. If not, then that would explain why you're not having any success, which means there is some hope.

I cannot honestly remember the end of the flash but I thought that the PC rebooted and then went into the BIOS menu automatically, but I could be wrong. Tomorrow I'll try and see if I can use 9C.23's DOS-based BIOS.wph file for recovery, and if so, I'll update the instructions here and on the website.

Thanks much Albester, I will be waiting for your results. :)

As far as your instructions, I have followed them to a T. I have used every bios I could get ahold of the lowest being 9c.10. I have a few bios files that I can't get into wph form (they are in .exe form and various extraction attempts have been unsuccessful.) but other than that, every wincrisis and phlash16 version that has been used in this thread I have tried in various combinations with the bios files. 9c.17 seems like it produces the best effect with the flash drive, it has pretty consistent beeps up untill it changes tones a does the 1 long 2 short, last night I let it run while I slept just to make sure I was giving it enough time to do its thing, but when I woke up today still the same result. 9c.23 produces the same result as 9c.17. Luckily I still have an uncle who thinks windows 7 is not worth upgrading to, so if your test show that virtualization won't work then I will use his computer to make the crisis partition.

Once again I appreciate you sticking with me Albester!

I tried the Windows xp machine and received the same result. Im going to start trying to mod a bios like one_j did, his problem is spot on for mine so I figure its my best chance at getting my p-78 back running. Im not sure if all the p-7805u's came out with the 1gb gts, but that's what I have. If you have any advice on modding a bios I would appreciate it.

SUCCESS!! I just wanted to let you know Albester that I successfully modded a bios and am typing this from my revived P-7805u. I used 9C.17 modded the bios and switched the VGA bios with the one from andros custom pack called Backup.rom and rebuilt the bios. I then had to edit the wph file with hex editor to add the vendors signature to the rom file I customized to bring the size up to 2,057 kb's, I then renamed the rom file to BIOS.WPH and placed it in the wincrisis folder and ran it without compression (Using a 1gb flash drive) plugged it into my left hand bottom port held fn and esc and powered the machine on, it completed the process in about 5 minutes, rebooted and greeted me with the gateway splash screen.

I am sooo glad this ordeal is over. Now I can get back to playing Dead Island!

Oh, if anyone needs this bios file just send me an email at [email protected]. I will be glad to help someone avoid this disaster I have went through for the past week.

Just to be clear about this method I used, it is a direct fix for anyone who has flashed their bios with Andros' pack of files and changed the device id on accident.

    Rahatee,

Great news about your recovered laptop! Indeed, I also have some new information to share. I was able to successfully create the CRISDISK using Windows 7 XP mode and using the 9C.23 DOS BIOS, and I didn't need to remove the CMOS battery (behind Wifi card). This is what I did:

    1) the flash program from this file:
    IYCD01WW-crisis-recovery-7811FX.ZIP
thread post forum post download link
Just unzip that to some directory.

    2) Get the 9C.23 BIOS file and extract it to the same directory you had the zipfile from step 1.

    3) Go to the DOS folder in step 2 and copy the IMV-041.WPH file into the directory from step 1.

    4) Copy the BIOS.WPH file to a new name, and rename IMV-041.WPH to BIOS.WPH

    5) From within WinXP mode of Win7, select the add-on (assume it was already installed) that allows you to see the USB drive from within WinXP. You'll be clicking on the icon on the top of the virtual session that says "USB", then click the selection below that (says "shared").

    6) Run WINCRIS.EXE from within WinXP of Win7 and select Compress and the device of your thumbdrive. After it's done, remove the drive.

    7) Remove the laptop power + battery (leaving CMOS battery attached). Connect the power adapter to a power strip turned off, and connect power connector to laptop. Insert thumb drive to lower left USB port.

    8) Press FCN-ESC and turn the power strip ON. Notice that the laptop does not power on by itself. While continuing to hold FCN-ESC, momentarily press the laptop power button. When you hear the first beep, release FCN-ESC keys after a second.

    9) You'll then hear about 8 beeps, a long delay of ~35-40 seconds, then three quick beeps, a bunch of other beeps, the CPU fan on full, then continual beeps (sometimes single, sometimes in groups of two).

10)Finally, the fan cuts off and the laptop reboots and puts you into CMOS mode.

Note that I didn't have to change anything in the BIOS as I have a native 1GB 9800GTS video card.

    I used a 64MB USB thumb drive.

    Regards,
    -Rob

It looks like the link is dead by now. Would you upload the crisis recovery files again or send me the files to [email protected]. I updated 7811 fx bios and it won't boot up now. Thank you so much for helping me out in advance.

I recently ended up with an unbootable Gateway p7805u. When I start it up I get a constant black screen, with the CPU fan running but no GPU fan activity. The only commands the laptop responds to is FN + F1 to turn off the orange lights on the tray. I want to try your Crisis Bios recovery and I have a couple of questions.

    1) By FCN-ESC key combination do you mean the FN key on the bottom left of the keyboard plus the ESC key?

    2) Are the Windows XP mode under Windows 7 steps necessary for this to work? I currently have Vista on my working Laptop, but I will upgrade if necessary.

I tried your method by pressing FN + ESC + power button (momentarily for couple of seconds) with my 4gb USB HDD that has been set up like you said except for the Windows 7 parts and got no response from the Computer (plugged it in the lower left usb slot).

I even tried pressing F key + N key + C key + ESC key + power button but no response. I used the power adapter in the way you said previously.

Sorry for my delay in getting back to you.
    1) Yes Fn+ESC is what I meant.

    2) I was already running Windows 7 and needed XP for some reason. I couldn't get it to work natively in Win7. If you have Vista you may or may not have the XP Mode (I think it's for Pro and above not Home Premium).

    3) I could NOT get this sequence to work with large USB drives or USB HDDs. I have had success with 128MB and 512MB USB flash drives. I was NOT successful with 4GB or 16GB USB flash drives, it wouldn't detect it. However, all the devices for which I was previously unable to boot worked fine in Win7. This must be some kind of limitation for the CRISBOOT ??

ONE_J, please PM me. I have been all over the web for months and my patience has grown extremely thin. What i'd like is to eliminate black screen issue on my p-7811fx by undervolting (absolutely no underclocking) the gpu to .9V on all performance levels. I have been researching this for months and can't extract the vbios using nvflash myself (get eeprom error).

    Thank you in advance!
